Wednesday, winners play at home, losers travel.
Friday, win or go home.

East Hamilton got swept in 2 games this week by Bradley County. I doubt their ranking holds.

Dang, this used to be such a big rivalry. Now, not so much.

Good call!

Truthfully, what is the percentage of HS players that will ever HAVE to play with wood?
Probably less than 1%.
So, why learn to hit with wood? What's the point? Just saying....

If a player is able to consistently square it up with wood the scouts will have no doubt they can hit. If I were a high school coach I would require all of my players to take BP with wood and I would force the JV and Freshmen teams to also play with wood.
Yeah....no.
They're not playing with wood, why practice with wood?

What's the point/reason of having a wood bat tournament? Just something different? Just wondering.

I think Hixson breaks into the win column this week. The teams they have played so far this year have a combined 15-3 record. This might be hopeful thinking, though.
-
Hixson is a little down this year. Football kind of runs in cycles, Hixson will be fine.
-
Hixson's got a bunch of big lineman and several good skill players. New QB is their starting catcher on the baseball team, he's got a gun! I'm not saying they'll beat Marion, but I don't think it'll be a blowout either. But, that's why they play the games!

No way, a lot closer than that.
-
If that's true, why haven't they done that in the past?
-
What about warm up pitches in the bullpen and the 8 pitches the pitcher gets when coming into the game? Those should be counted too if we are truly concerned with arm safety.
-
David,
They appealed the touch at 3rd base (judgement call). The umpires ruled on the touch appeal. Should be end of story.
-
Judgement calls are not supposed to be protestable.
-
Touching 3rd or not touching 3rd is not appealable because it's a judgement call. The only thing that would be appealable is the dicision to call the runner out and thereby not allowing the run. Is that a correct interpretation of the rule? I believe it is a correct interpretation but I would hate to win that way.
Wrong.
Missing a base is absolutely appealable. If you call a runner out, what is the reasoning? Because you appeal that he missed a base. The runners have the responsibility to run/touch the bases in proper order, failing to do that and the defensive appealing that the runner failed to do that, happens in the form of an appeal.

Scoot's Hill may not be one of the State's Best , but It's very Nice and I have yet to hear a player just Not Rave about the playing service.
"Playing service"? Get off of the baseball field and back in English class.

Hixson has one of the best fields in the Chattanooga area.

High school rankings are really kind of a joke. Who gets to see all of the teams across the state? A good time for state rankings would be after the 3rd or 4th week of May.

There is a shortage of umpires in the state of Tennessee. That is a fact.
The average age of umpires in the state of Tennessee is increasing. That is a fact. The reason for this fact is that younger people do not want to umpire, for whatever reason.
Within the next 5 years, we will see varsity games being called by 1 umpire due to fact #1. It has been happening in other parts of the country already. Don't be surprised when it happens here.
The problem is trying to figure out why the shortage is occurring and do something to change the trend.
-
I can tell that you are an umpire. I don't think there is really an umpire shortage in the U.S. There may be some in states, but not in the whole country.
...and you were saying....
I bet there will be no followup response. Facts have a tendency to kill ignorance.
-
There is an umpire shortage across the entire U.S. Soon, many of your varsity games will be called with 1 umpire due to the shortage. Instead of getting on CoachT and griping, why don't you join in and umpire to help alleviate this problem?
