  1. Bain is who I heard (may or may not be accurate). It wouldn't surprise me if Littlejohn was returning to his alma mater as well. I believe the Cubs should retain West on the staff as well.

Good luck to the Cubs! Playing in a region with Camden and Fairview plus adding the likes of Waverly, Jo Byrns, Hickman, and Creek Wood to the non district schedule will be a challenge. The in county games with Sycamore and Harpeth are always great matchups as well.

Also scooter that would be me. I decided to change my username when I left for Lebanon a few years ago. Hope all is well at Smith County!

Good Luck to the Cubs and their new coach!

Thanks for the info. as to changing your username. I always checked for your comments related to CC posts and noticed they were absent. You are only about 20 minutes fron Smih Co. if you are in Lebanon.  Coaching/teaching/adminstration  in Wilson Co?  Thanks for the informatiom.

  2. I agree with this post. Even though my son graduated last season, these boys mean a lot to me and my wife. I'd love to see this bunch take the state. it would have been nice last season with Mason being a senior but It would be equally nice to see my hometown boys to do something no other Westmoreland team has ever done in football. That being said it won't be a cake walk freeby todo this. I just hope this bunch can keep it all together and stay on the same page. If they do that great things will happen this season. Lots of good kids on this team attitude wise. Dillon Todd is a humble hero. Bailey Kirk is also a good kid. I was thankful to get to be around these kids on Thursday nights the past couple of years and I'm planning on doing the same this season if possible.

Postie, did the good running back graduate?

  3. Cheatham is about to be right back on track with their new hire, that much I can promise you.. Top notch coach and man.. If your boys buy into his program they WILL be very successful no questions about it..

We, Smith County, had a home/home series with CC a few years back  and CC was very competitive and we really enjoyed the series. CC also had a poster whose moniker was "Howdy". Have not heard from him recently.

  4. Cascade, Community, Forrest, and Eagleville who have been in district together in past years welcome East Robertson, Jackson County, Watertown, and Westmoreland.

Gonna be a lot of travel for these teams!  Not a single member of this region has a 2015 schedule posted yet.  I'm interested specifically with Cascade, Community, and Eagleville as I'm most familiar with those teams.

I think Forrest or Cascade would be the early favorites with Eagleville in the mix as well.  Thoughts?

Westmoreland will be the team to beat. They will make some waves in that region.

  5. I was Just Kidding. I do still think over all numbers, Line, and team speed. Will be down for Smith Co when compared to good teams of the past. New qb will hurt a little till he gets up to speed. I can see them getting that 4th possibly 3rd playoff spot. I just don't see them as a real threat to win the region this season.

Line will be the albatross at this point. I can see a couple FB's, that started at some point last year,  playing guard and possibly another starter from last year  in the line. I am totally honest, I don't know what SC will have next year. I do expect then to be noticable better though.

  6. Me and 64NB were saying the same thing this mourning. We also came to the conclusion that lots of the teams we will play probably play iron man football as well in 2a. You do make a good point. Last years team was very deep. It was pretty amazing depth for Westmoreland standards.

Westie could make some noise in their new classifican move. Not sure about their good running back, whether he returns next year or not. They peaked at the right time and if that carries over thru next year, they could be hard to handle.

  7. that actually might help their play calling.JK

Hmmmm - don't recall the play calling being an issue this past year. The year before, yes, but he left before this year. Play calling good enough to beat Upperman and DC this year and bad enough to get beat by CC. I can't figure it out either.

  8. 3 things that will hurt Smith Co in 2015...................1. Coaching(untill proved otherwise)2. OL/DL Smith doesn't have the big boys on either side like they did 2002-2010. 3. Team Speed

    1). I see your point

2). I agree, not a big as usual, but growing

3). Transfer fastest player on the team - team so young, speed will improve a great deal as kids get older and stronger

    4) We are so bad our main goal is to beat Cannon

    5) SC will be every HC team next year

    6) Our BAND is MUCH improved

    7) Don't take this years starters and compare to next years team. Athletes won't be on the bench. Too many good players who played one way last year will be on the field both ways and two deep players will be redirected to starting positions. Every athlete will play rather than have a lesser quality player at a position where the good athlete didn't play this year. Example: at fullback we are three deep and any one of them can start. That leaves two good players on the bench and they can be used at other positions to make us a stronger team. Also, we are three deep at TB and one or two of them can be moved to receiver. Oh well, since we are already marked a "W" on our opponents schedule, I don't guess it matters. Everybody wrap up and keep warm!!

  9. Need someone to get me in touch with your new bass team coach, John High. Need to make sure he knows about some tournaments.

Once someone responds we can delete this since it doesn't belong on this board.

We are located in a very good fishing area: Cordell Hull Lake, Carthage, Center Hill Lake, Smithville, Caney Fork (trout) here in Smith County, Dale Hollow, Celina, Obed River, trout, in Celina, Old Hickory, Nashville, Percy Priest, Nashville. All of these are in Carthage, Smith County, or a 40 mi. radius. Can be to any of these locations in less than an hour. There were 72 students who originally signed up for this class.

  10. about the. Same talent they had the last two seasons which they went 7-3 and 8-2 in 3a. That same talent might get them to 9-1 or 10-0 at the 2a level. Good tough lineman but not huge. Very tough running backs but not speed blazers. I think they only lose like 4 starters on each side of the ball.

how about the good running back, is he back?

  11. I think they should now but one more bad season and he is probably gone. I don't see SC beating DC,UH,YI or Seq in region. There is at least 3 loses. Then if they play traditional rivals LA and MC....I think those are loses, at least one is. Will depend on who the schedule out of region. 6-4 is about the best I could see them finishing.

Yea, you boys are correct, SC won't have diddley squat next year. All we lost in the backfield is the QB but the QB next year will be much stronger than this year. Will be able to run the ball and throw. All the rest of the backfield, two deep will be back along with a transfer will play somewhere . All db's will be back with a transfer starting somewhere. All LB's are back. Will lose a def. tackle and def. end. Defense should be much stronger. Lost two tackles on OL. Two freshmen might start in those positions. All receivers are back except one. Na, don't count on SC to be any problem. Maybe, just maybe we can beat Cannon next year if we get a few breaks. Good luck and please take care of us next year and don't run the score up too much on us. MERRY CHRISTMAS  AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL !!

  12. Yes, SC did beat UH in game three on a dropped pass in the end zone while UH wa trying to get 18 new startes(all returning) to play together. Fare and square, SC got the win at home. 8 weeks later UH was heading to round two while SC was still thinking about that Cannon game. Big diffrence from where SC and UH were in week 3, to where these two teams ended up.

Spin, spin, spin. Who won the fricking game? Dang, just say SC beat us, BUT ------------- ! Yea, SC was down last year and there were reasons that helped to lead to that. We aren't on here talking about the reasons - we are just trying to improve for next year. No if's, and's or but's.

  13. Baxter has 1 red light and 1400 residents, and don't except kids from out of zone, which is only Putnam county. No fee to travel outside that to play.

Not to mention that they are building a new middle school for 1500 students AND possibility of a big name coach interested in coming BACK to Baxter who has been been known to reach out to other communities to bring in kids.

  14. Another interesting stat. Hockaday had 27 carries for 124 yards, but he also played basically every snap on defense. He had 17 tackles, but get this - 12 of those tackles were on 12 of Tyson's 27 carries, and on those carries Tyson only got 31 yards (2.5 yards per carry).

How many times did Tyson sneeze during the game? How many times did Hockaday re-tie his shoe? How many times did Coach Rankin say "put some ice on it"? LOL - great job sportsnerd.

  15. Some interesting stats on the game:

    Rushes less than 4 yards

    CPA - 25  Alcoa - 19

    Hockaday- 11  Tyson - 14

    Rushes of 4-5 yards

    CPA - 10  Alcoa - 7

    Hockaday - 7   Tyson - 5

    Rushes of 6-10 yards

    CPA - 14  Alcoa -9

    Hockaday- 7   Tyson - 6

    Rushes of 11+ yards

    CPA - 5  Alcoa - 2

    Hockaday - 2  Tyson - 2

CPA defense held Tyson to 3  yards or less on 14 of 27 carries.

Tyson had 57 yards on 2 long runs. He averaged 3.6 yards on the other 25 runs.

    Good job of stats.

  16. not slamming anyone, just saying with 90 players I would think the 2nd option at a program like Alcoa would have looked better. This kid played a lot before this game. It was not his first action. I think the bigger problem was handed the ball to #2 40 to 50 times a game. That tryed to do something they had never done, throw the ball when forced to.

Still 2nd team QB - cannot expect 1st team results.

  17. Maybe, but coaching up the back up qb to throw a foward pass would seem to take priority of that. Alcoa aint Monterey. They should have 2 maybe 3 qbs on the 90 man roster who can get in there and at least guide the team by connecting on a few 10 yard curls or 5 yard outs.

A lot ask a 2nd team QB to come into a Championship game and not miss a beat. True, had trouble throwing the ball, but put yourself in a 16 year old kid with all the pressure he had on him to EXECUTE as the starting QB would have done. The only weapon Alcoa had was Tyson. Of course, CPA loaded the defense to stop him. Had both teams been at full deck, final outcome could have been different. Who knows, but don't slam Alcoa with the starting quarterback on the sideline. Had CPA's QB been on the sideline, would CPA have performed as well as they did?

  18. Anyone can coach when you have talent. He was out coached by a mile in the championship game. Rankin has benefited by coaching at two open zone schools where the talent has gotten him a win. Riverdale was the largest school in the state. He had players who drove over an hour to play football.....err, get a great education.

Am I correct that Alcoa's starting QB did noy play a play?

  19. Championship Friday.

I predicted three in a row before last season, and that prediction stands. Gold ball #14 today and 15 in 365.

    Alcoa rolls 31-14,

    Loudon folks eat corn dogs,

    CAKe is still CAKe

...and Catholic schools will never beat us.

    Go Alcoee.

    Amen.

Good luck to the Rankin Boys, Alcoa, from Smith County. Each game Gary wins, he breaks a record. 31 - 17 Alcoa

  20. A different story will be written on the field.

With the exception of Maryville, this will be the toughest game for Alcoa and will be the toughest game of the year for CPA. Halftime adjustments will dictate the outcome and that bodes well for Alcoa. Alcoa and Coach Rankin add another feather in their cap.  Alcoa 28  -  CPA 17.
