  1. You are right Termite about girls contriburing as freshmen more ofter than boys do. That is because girls mature quicker than boys do. Girls can often out run boys, move faster and are better at many skills until the boys catch up with maturity. Do you ever hear of parents holding back girls a year to start school? No, it is the boys who are held back so they can have that extra year to mature (this also applies to school/grades). Often girls have their best years as soph. and jrs. as they have already matured. Boys usually have their best years as jr. and srs. as it takes longer for them to mature.
  2. Hey Termite - This is just a "wait and see" situation. You are well versed in football, as well as all other sports, and not really a lot to say at this point. When the dead period is over and more involvement by the players occurs, maybe we call tell more.
  3. Both of these young men have the tools to be players. They have good size, speed and desire to play the game. Reps and hard work will dictate the amount of playing time. We sure are glad to have them here rather than on the creekbank.
  4. He did work out yesterday afternoon, still hampered by bad ankle injury from last year, just have to wait and see.
  5. Thanks Steno for your link to explain this.
  6. Originally from Ohio, moved to Florida, moved to smith county and enrolled yesterday at Smith County. TB, OLB, corner. 5'8" - 170. Can he play ???????????
  7. Here in Smith County the vocational schools are located on campus of each high school (Smith County High and Gordonsville High). Does a student have to "travel" to attend the vocational school in Macon County?
  8. We had him here @ SC several years ago. OUCH !!
  9. Hey Spy - word here in Smith County is that Coach Mayfield is coming back !!!!!!!!
  10. Thanks Fan. Top of the day to you also.
  11. Hey Fan: No problem - For sure didn't insult me. I was just throwing in a little info.
  12. Not so fast Fan. Linemen usually have to "learn" the game of football. They are usually not the natural athlete that didn't have to learn the game. Quarterbacks many times are "gifted" and perform naturally. They don't have to learn to run, to make moves, cuts, to throw, to catch the ball etc. Now the lineman have to be taught to a greated degree. Now back to your statement about linemen don't know the game: The person who had to learn how to perform can usually TEACH someone bettr because they had to learn. If I didn't have to learn to make cuts and a player asks me how to make cuts - I have a hard time telling him how to do it because I didn't have to learn how. I was never in his place as NOT knowing how to make cuts. Also, look at your college and pro coaches - how many natural athletes are head coaches? Very few. Most are linemen, linebackers or DB's. They had to learn the game. On another example: A math whiz makes a poor math teacher. They can't understand why a person can't find the square root of 144 when it is so simple to them. They have a hard time relating because math was "natural" to them.
  13. Coach, no apology needed for me. You haven't offended me.
  14. "A word to the wise should be sufficient".
  15. "oh and the other guy I work for" : I know this "other guy" a lot better than you do. Knowing him the way I do, I would be careful with post on here on CoachT.
  16. Related to Lucas: Surgery yesterday - knee was damaged more than thought. The meniscus was torn in a way that may cause additional surgery after healing (removing scar tissue). Dr. Petty still thinks Lucas will be back his sr. year. Timmy Bush doing fine after surgery.
  17. Hey Termite - three 5A and a very, very competitive private school. Hope our thin ranks can survive !
  18. The home team in this series didn't fare too well. Outstanding series and definitely full of excitement. You folks at Boyd always treated the Owl fans extremely well and we appreciate that.
  19. One registered the last day of school.
  20. Lucas is having to rehab before he can have surgery. He will miss this/next year football but could get back to play baseball next year. Dr's think he can play football his sr. year.
  21. This post not even worth responding to.
  22. It's evident you don't know Coach Rankin.
