  1. As for the called illegal forward pass call, the QB was not past the line when the ball was thrown. I was sitting on the 40 yard line of the visitors stands, the line of scrimmage was the 42. The ball was thrown from the 41. His momentum carried him forward past the 42. Flag was thrown late from the other side of the field after the pass was completed. I thought it could have been a backside holding call or ineligible receiver down field if it was anything when I saw the flag late as I was watching the QB scramble. That is usually what the calls are from that ref position in that type of play. The film has been reviewed, and as Coach May would say, “The Big Eye Don’t Lie”. It was a bad call. Additionally, there was a face mask call later in the game that was marked as a 5 yard penalty, when the QB’s head was twisted while being brought down. That should have been 15 yards and a 1st down. Not whining, just facts. Neither play decided the final outcome of the game. Jeff-Co had their chances. Greeneville took advantage of their chances, Jeff-Co did not. Good Luck to Greeneville for the rest of your season. Now, moving on to more constructive things…. Does anyone know how Bearden matches up vs. Jeff-Co? We all know about Mr. Young, but what about the rest of the team?
  2. First let me say, Congratulations to the Greeneville program!!! I was highly impressed with the coaching, conditioning and class of your program/fans. The group of Greeneville fans that was near where I sat for the game where excellent before, during and after the game. Thank you for a wonderful football experience. The drive home was not as pleasurable as last year, but that is why you play the game. "good crow" Greeneville’s Line size came into play as Jeff-Co did not rotate the D-line as they needed to. Early in the game the D-line had some good plays and flew to the ball, but the lack of rotation really showed on the last TD Greeneville scored. Arm tackling and trying to ride down runners will not get it done for Jeff-Co in stopping the run as the season moves forward. When you have a platoon system, you should use it, or at least that part of it. Loosing the nose guard to injury did not help either, but Schuchart stepped up and made some good plays. Great job. Linebacker play was very good for the majority of the game. Secondary play was good other than the first play of the game for Greeneville, those plays happen on occasion and the team did not fold on first sign of trouble. I believe the coaching staff made a great move by putting in Bo in the secondary. The result was an INT and Jeff-Co getting the ball in good field position. QB play and receiver play was good. QB’s made some good decisions to throw away the ball a few times that receivers were covered. I thought the downfield receiver blocking looked good too. Brad had a good run on a broken play from shotgun. But the Jeff-Co offensive line has a lot to work on in the running game. I am not going to point any player out for poor performance or good performance in the line. The coaches are smart enough to figure out where the issues are. The only question is if they will make the needed changes to get the running game moving forward. The running backs ran strong and held onto the ball in traffic, but the o-line has to give time to develop the option play. I was disappointed in the loss, but Jeff-Co can win a majority of their games and make the playoffs if they are willing to make the changes needed. That is up to the coaching staff. This week is Bearden for the home opener. Jeff-Co Players: Get Fired Up!!! I know the fans will be there cheering for you to do well. You have 9 regular season games left make the most of each one. Go Patriots !!!!!!!!!

  4. Yes....and I think the mercy rule was the best thing tssaa has ever done for the game. A coach has also got to teach discipline. I think you do a disservice to your team if you don't say "no its not ok to pound them into the ground just because you can". Sometimes teaching them when to hold back is just as important. And comparing football and baseball is strictly prohibited on Coacht I must agree the mercy was one of the best things T$$AA did for HS Football. I am not sure how you teach any more discipline by only running the ball and playing every player. If a team cannot stop your third/fourth string players from scoring while just running the ball up the middle, what do you do? You cannot tell the QB to take a knee 3 times then punt. I think that would be more disrespectful and callous to the other team. I do not know. Do you call time out and walk across the field and tell the other coach, I’m sending in the water-boy and playing only my freshmen? I don’t think so. You have to work the younger players in and run your base offense. If they can’t stop that, well maybe they need to cap all teams to score only 45 pts and the 1st one there wins and game over at that point???? Personally I hate socialism and that would be a lot like socialism.
  5. I was too busy crying over how bad the Jeff-Co season had gotten. We were bad. Maybe this year we can keep our QB's healthy and out of troubles on and off the field. See you folks Friday night some Rib Rock'in action. My prediction is Jeff 28 Greeneville 24 Go Patriots!!!
  6. Nope, I did not know. I played ball at Oneida, so I do know good football when I see it. Greenway was a good player.
  7. Makes since that you get the new QB all the snaps he can take then. It did payoff, so smart coaching. Hate to hear Greenway was dismissed; he looked like a great athlete. Not sure what Jeff-Co would have done in that situation. Glad Greenville made it to play Maryville under those circumstances. Friday night will sort itself.
  8. And why did your team loose its QB? I honestly do not know.
  9. I am not sure if it was classless to play the 3rd and 4th string players the majority of that game. Every player on last years Jeff-Co team played in the Cocke-Co game/rain storm. That included kids who where getting little playing time in JV games. Cocke-Co was just bad. They looked better at the Jamboree last Friday, but they had that one bad pitch to the right as they were driving to a would-be score. I was sad to see the drive end that way. That stuff will drive coaches insane. BTW when did Greenville call off the dogs vs David Crockett last year (42-14)? The 2nd team and some 3rd team players for Jeff-Co where in during most of the 1st half vs Cocke-Co last year. As for the lack of execution in 2008, I could not agree more. It was hard to watch.
  10. I do remember that wonderful ride home last year. The tears of the Greenville fans paving the way as your team could not figure out how they caved to the pressure of having a BIG lead and blowing it. Can we say choke. And yes, I was very proud to have watched Jeff-Co smack a top four finishing program on their home turf. Nice field too. BTW Jeff-Co’s record last year was not great, FOR SURE. After losing McFall in Game 3, Jeff-Co was in DEEP trouble. As would most any school who lost their starting QB/Running Back to a season ending injury.
  11. I left out the E because I think the the E stands for Envy, and I do not Envy a team that Jeff-Co beat last year after being down by 21. Your team just could not close the deal. Greenville lost last year , Jeff-Co won last year. Could be the same result this year. Better hope Jeff does not figure out the D-line rotation by Friday or your Offense will be offensive to watch. LOL Later Tater
  12. The Jamboree Friday night was interesting. With the “you can’t block field goals” rule, Morristown West won 3-0. I guess I am stupid, but that is the most ridiculous rule ever. The East/West article on Prepxtra FAILS to mention this when touting how the Morristown teams had shutouts on Friday night.: http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2009/aug/1 ... -shutouts/ I understand not kicking off (put the ball on the 20/30 and play, whatever) and not rushing the punter/returning punts, fair catches only, but no blocking of Field Goals, YUK!!!! What, we do not want the players exposed to too much “danger” before week 0. Please, this is FOOTBALL!!!!! Not a knitting class. My deepest apologizes to all you knitters out there. From what I saw, the Jeff-D has the athletes/coaching to keep Jeff in most games. I do think Jeff needs to/must set up some type of rotation in the D-line since they are running a 3-5-3. With the size they have on the D-line (or lack of size), the D-ends and the Nose-tackle cannot take the pounding from 250+ O-linemen for 4 quarters in 5/6A ball and stay healthy, or expect to win. IMHO The rest of the Jeff D looks great. Jeff-Co needs to get Thomas Cook (LB, Sr.) healthy and back to playing (the kid had 70+ tackles last year), but Parker Denton, Brad Mason, Eric Cain and crew should give the Jeff-Co fans a lot to cheer about in ’09. They swarm to the ball. The offence is well, heart stopping to watch. Very Nice long pass play to set up a NO score. Anthony Goins has a good arm to go with the speed. Bo Asmus has sure hands and made a good run after catch. The option/pass will be a good play for Jeff-Co, but they will need to figure out which side of the line is strongest and run that way. Back-side protection will be key. Jeff-Co will miss not having a “bruiser” Fullback this year in short yardage situations. Unless they convert someone quickly to that job, 3rd and 1 could end up being 4th and 3 if they decide to run up the middle. They have some speed in the backfield, just not the size to punch it up the middle. Special teams, hummmmm, Jeff-Co has one heck of a Freshmen punter. That kid must be part mule. He had a bomb punt in the Freshmen Jamboree game vs. Morristown West. Nice!!! Field goal/extra point team should be reliable, do not know about Kickoff/return team, see above. Season Outlook as of week 0: From what I have seen Jeff-Co should finish 7-3 or 6-4. 8-2 or better is attainable, IF they make a few minor adjustments and get the “good old lucky breaks” to go their way. But that is football. Greenville will be a tough test on the road. Winning up there will be a challenge, but it can be done. Go Patriots!!! My 2 Cents
  13. Quick update on Friday's scrimmage vs Heritage. It will be AT Heritage High School: 6 PM. As to the scrimmage against Central, I would say team depth played a big hand in Jeff dominating early and often. Central was playing too many players both ways. Central has an tough/outstanding QB. But, as a team, Central just did not have the swagger that Jeff had. Too much smack talk, not enough action on the field by Central. My 2 cents.
  14. Word I have is that tonights game has been moved to the Jeff County Prictice field. Knox Central will be leaving from Knoxville at 4:00 PM Guess all the rain has flooded out the Cental field. Regards
