  1. are the losers not gone in the semis and the winners on to the finals for seating for the regions next week, G.....dont think it matters

    Booger just sayin

Sequatchie did indeed make the trip from the valley across the mountain. SC played a tough game throughout the contest.

  2. No doubt Magnet is the favorite. SC has steadily improved every year. They definitely have a chance.

I'll put up a PBR that Smith County stays home

looks as if SC return the the favor to Hyde from last year....just didnt think SC would beat Hyde....good for those girls......that program has come a long ways since those years around 2008ish...thinking Magnet will be the #1 again coming to the Chattanooga area next week....thats a Booger Pickin

I've got a PBR that says Smith County stays home. You going to buy it, Boog?

What the? This is why I don't look at the rankings. If this doesn't say how idiotic the rankings are, I don't know what does. Where's MVM for some real rankings? At least he has actually seen every team in East Tennessee at least.

  4. what in Bear Bryants sake do you think the 2 Big Boogers were doin last night in that monsoon @ Finley....you musta downed one to many IPA's.....forgot to tell Mr. Porker last evening durin the rain break that there was no way one of his sammiches would be passed up on....go head and pay for 2 extra and Booger will catch up when that check comes in.....Porkers got the best pig in town

LOL, thanks for coming last night. I got you covered. You can pay me back after your next whiskey run to Kentucky.

  5. Kids don't make the region pool from TN because it says TN on the front. It makes no sense whatsoever that TN teams perform well against GA, TX, AL etc yet we have virtually no players on any age group?? Even Lee Smith knows what's going on when you compete with those teams and GA gets 20 kids in the pool. I've had that same conversation with Gavin, Simon and heard Heather at Belmont expressed the same sentiment this summer. If you worked the camp you saw Heathers group, which BTW is not a super strong group IMO since my daughter led them in scoring two years ago playing up an age group.

Put GA on the front and the numbers will jump up there.

No doubt politics play an unfortunate role in the lack of TN players in the regional and national pools. Not to be a broken record, but the independent game rule plays a role here too. The perception is that TN doesn't care to develop players so why bother looking at them with all the good players in Region 3 from TX, FL, and NC?

  6. EnsworthSoccer has hit the nail on the head, in my opinion. Our archaic high school rule is a deterrent to developing players for play beyond high school. ECNL has indeed chosen to ignore TN because of the rule, at least according to college coaches I know. I attended the girls U16 and U17 regional ODP camp this summer in Alabama and TN had very few girls make the final teams, and I believe only one TN girl made the U16 regional pool. This rule obviously isn't the only cause of the developmental problem in TN, but doing away with it will definitely only help give players more opportunities at the next level.

  7. I guess we can agree to disagree, Playerscoach, about the parent's role. I think you have hit in on the problem with our education system, thinking that the government needs to play big brother.

Do you really think the rule has stopped how out of control AAU is? Yeah, the rule has had a lasting effect. And the rule was actually put in place because of baseball.

You are just being argumentative on your other points.

  8. NC80, your response is very logical. As a former club president, I am very excited that the TSSAA is finally at least considering the option to allow players the opportunity to play club ball during high school season without losing eligibility. During my tenure, I couldn't even get a cognitive response when I questioned the rule, much less any discussion on a change.

Most of the better high school coaches around Chattanooga also coach club. The idea that a coach wouldn't do what is in the best interest of a player is patently absurd. Bottom line, though, it should be the players and parents' decision what to do, not an agency.

  9. Abolishing the independent game rule is the obvious solution. For the few elite players who have Division 1 or national team aspirations, they could choose to play both or just club. But, remember, it is the coaches who want this rule in place. If the needs of the players were actually truly and thoughtfully considered, this rule would never exist in the first place. This rule exists to trap players on their high school team. Tennessee is only a handful of states that have this rule. But we seem to enjoy having arcane rules for our high school sports.

  10. Georgia plays girls and boys soccer in the spring. If Tennessee moved to both sports in spring, we would have a real problem getting enough refs in SE TN. The ref association out of Chattanooga also assigns games in NW GA all the way down to Calhoun, GA. BTW, they also cover TN teams all the way to Sweetwater and Sequoyah.

  11. Two great coaches!  I miss Andy at Signal because we had to go to faculty coaches in our 5th year as a public school, but congrats to GPS!  We were able to land a good coach too, District is strong!  Both CCS and ND made final 8 teams in state.  Tough district!

Just curious about Andy...public schools can have community coaches. Why did Signal decide not to continue? For the record, Andy is a friend of mine and he is very happy at GPS. I am seriously just curious.
