  1. TN Wrestling Clubs. The Ohio Tournament of Champions is just around the corner. The TOC will not be having a Dual Competition this year however they are doing All-Star, Club, and Team points for the individuals. I bring this up to ask if anyone is putting a team together. The more wrestlers we can get together on a roster the cheaper the entry fee will be. See Below: The discount given will be as follows: 8 or fewer wrestlers - no discount will be given 9-15 wrestlers - $5 discount per wrestler 16-25 wrestlers - $10 discount per wrestler 26-35 wrestlers - $15 discount per wrestler 36 or more wrestlers - $20 discount per wrestler All info for the TOC is located on the following link: http://www.ohiotofc.com/Home/Index
  2. Here are a few ideas to toss around for the meeting this year. 1. Maybe set the Regions as they are in TSSAA. (I think there are 8) Host a State Qualifier in each Region for the entire State and allow the top 4 placers to qulaify for the State tournament. That should give us a 32 man bracket for the state tournament. I know this idea would need some tweeking, but just a thought. 2. If you have 8 Regions instead of doing a Region tournament, maybe have 4 Sectional Championship tournaments by combining two Regions. (4 and 5 or 1 and 2 for example) Reason being is that at this point we do not have enough wrestlers to have 8 Region Championships. (we barely have enough for 5... this will eventually change) 3. Have a Southeast Regional Tournament and include all surrounding states, make it a two day event with duals on the last day. (we all know Team TN would dominate) In short I think we are very close to where we should be as a State and it is very evident by how our children are doing on a National level. Our top wrestlers are as good as any, anywhere in the Nation. This was evident at Dixie Nationals, Indy Nationals, and the Grind.
  3. I am about ready for this post to go away just because of the title and the anger it is stirring up. I think TNAAU dis the best job they possibly could due to the shear volume of wrestlers they had. I was there on Saturday from beginning to end because my last wrestler was a Junior 112 and his Championship match was late probably around 10 I guess. Thats not bad for a one day tournament of that size. If you have ever been to the Ohio TOC you would know that those guys run that tournament at a very effecient level and have a very good system in place, however due to there shear volume in a one day tournament, even with 30+ mats they still dont end their day until well after midnight each year. As I have said before the State tourney was not perfect, however it was an improvement from last year and I am sure each year it will continue to improve. Great initiatives take time to perfect.
  4. I am not going to continue to play your childish games Bradley08. As I posted before, you are welcome to call me. Josh Moon 931-217-8483. Additionally as far as drumming up interest in the sport in my area you can ask anyone in Clarksville of my involvement in the area. I started a new club this year, which by the way we took 6 to Region and all placed, additionally we took the same six to State 2 State Champs and 1 Fourth Place finish, not to shabby for the village idiot I'd say.
  5. I am not sure who you are Bradley08 and quite frankly I could care less. I am not critical of the establishment. I think HUMOR is airing his problems in the wrong manner. Anytime I have been critical I have offered a solution, and my issues are not with TNAAU. I only want to see the State improve and I have seen things in other states that we could adopt here. I am not HUMOR nor would I want to be associated with his criticizms with no offer of a solution. I am not anonymous as you also are. I think that TNAAU does a great job and has done alot for the state and its wrestling programs. As I said in previous posts thanks to Don and Darrell and there tireless efforts to improve. The state tournament has gotten better each year, to include this year. Yes we can improve and I am sure we will. For those of you who do not know who I am, I am not anonymous. Bradley08 I told you that you could speak to me face to face at state and you did not. Who are you? So I can talk to you since you wont find me. My name is Josh Moon and I can be reached at 931-217-8483.
  6. I wish I would have made a category for GA teams, that would have removed a few from Region 3. Additionally if you combine Region 4 and 5 like it was last year and the old West Region won handily. Just my opinion but maybe Region 3 needs a realignment as well. It seemd like they are the larger Region now. Just a suggestion. Great Job to everyone involved Saturday though.
  7. Medal Counts: (keep in mind Region 4 and 5 were combined last year) State Champions: Region 1= 9 Region 2= 6 Region 3= 20 Region 4= 14 Region 5= 14 State Placers: Region 1= 57 Region 2= 32 Region 3= 92 Region 4= 74 Region 5= 44

  11. I am not complaining at all. The competition was great. I dont think I would have wanted it any other way. We have wanted to wrestle Tucker all year anyway so it worked out. I thought you guys did the best you could with the situation you had.
  12. Thanks for the cudos Mike. I could have probably complained about Dustin's bracket since he had our Region 5 third place guy in the first round, and that Dustin was seeded in the middle even though he was undefeated in the State in Bantam 50s this year, HOWEVER and understand this clearly. We wanted to beat the best, because to be the best you must beat the best. You can complain about pairing all day long but the bottom line is that you have to win them all no matter what. I think the pairings were done as fair as they possibly could be due to the fact that the little ones do not qualify and we dont really keep up with records for seperation criteria. Like I said before I think we can improve, and I know we will because tourney gets better every year. Thanks for a great day of wrestling.
  13. IMO and I have been critical in the past, great day for wrestling. I saw many high level matches. The future of TN wrestling is very bright. I am sure any issues will be worked out. I have to say that the tournament does continue to inprove and has done so every year. The plaques were a very nice addition. Thanks to Don, Darrell, and all the volunteers throughout the State for all they do!!!
  14. Agreed! Great day for wrestling. I saw many high level matches. The future of TN wrestling is very bright. I am sure any issues will be worked out. 15. I will be talking to Daniel next week at the West Creek Baseball Camp.
  16. I agree with your points for the most part, and through this conversation on CoachT my stance has changed slightly on this matter, but not much. I dont think it has anything to do with the bracket being "easier". State should be "State" consisting of the best wrestlers from the State. If you want competition that's fine, but do it in the regular season. We brought 10 wrestlers down from IN for a tournament in Clarksville and we travel around to other States as well, however we do not expect to compete in their State tournament, nor would we want to. We want to win State in our State. I can agree with the exceptions made for certain teams by TN AAU, the best example is Ringgold who has ran tournaments and supported TN AAU, and you could say that they are formally recognized as a TNAAU team, they should compete with us and any other team who falls into that category should be able to as well. I am sure their are others that fall into that category. I hope we can more clearly outline the rule in the coming season. IMO if TNAAU votes to recognize an out of state club as TNAAU and the club does not compete in another State tournament theuy should be allowed to compete. Looking forward to this weekend though 732 registered so far!!! Thats awesome!!!

  18. If you are still looking to wrestle somewhere on Saturday the KY Battle for the Belt at North Hardin is supposed to be a great one. From what I understand there are teams from VA and OH signed up.
  19. I agree with YOUTHCOACH16 in this matter, it truly is more or less a wash at this point and not much else can be done. If you don't like the decision that has been made we need to start going to the TNAAU Meetings. Also being from Murray County, GA originally and wrestling there in my youth, I understand the Ringgold thing. By all means let them participate if they are excepted into the fold as TNAAU clubs. I think if you want to compete in the TNAAU State tournament then you should wrestle for a TNAAU recognized team. This has happened in the past with no problem or conflict over the issue with several kids from HCWC and East Ridge. I think that no one had a problem with them due to the fact that they wrestled for TN teams, and in TN tournaments 90% of the time. Like I stated before, the real issue here is ensuring that this is a true "State" tournament that is won by teams/individuals who are agreed on to be TNAAU teams/individuals. At this point that is a hard thing to determine because there are no clear guidlines, and this potentially sets us up for teams and kids from all over the Southeast wrestling in our "State" tourney. My child wrestles in other states during the year at individual tournaments. We should also bring these out of State teams in to make our State stronger, I can agree with that wholeheartedly. As long as the team the individual wrestles for us recognized as a TNAAU team, (such as Ringgold who does in fact contribute alot to TNAAU) Let them wrestle in the TNAAU State Tournament. The point is that since we do not have clear and specific guidelines that is why the KY kids competed in the first place, and this does not need to happen in any part of the State that borders GA, AL, KY, MS, AR, MO, NC, or VA. Do you now see how many could potentially get in the mix here. Make it special for TNAAU clubs.
  20. I have no issue with children who wrestle and compete in the state wrestling with us. My concern is that the lines may become blurred and you will have "medal hunters" who feel due to the Age/Weight requirments within their state they have an advantage by participating in our tourney. I have to say I think our TN wrestlers are as good as they come and I know that they will defend the State and our kids will retain the State Championships. I would just like to see clearly defined regulations preventing the misuse of the "system" as it is. Maybe at some point we can have a Southeast Regional Tournament sanctioned by AAU and all the Southeastern States can compete. Something similar to the Tri-State Classic that Ringgold use to host when I wrestled. Lets get em this weekend TN.
  21. I do know through word of Chuck Pope whose Son wrestled at Liberty the week of the Qualifiers, that if you want to compete in your State tournament you can through the use of a waiver.
  22. I think at this point it needs to be passed forward. It appears that in the North Region some kids that would have been State Qulaifiers are not due to these KY kids who had already competed at KY State and who do not wrestle for a TN club. Additionally the Grindhouse GA kids do not wrestle with a TN Club either. I really dont have a dog in the fight since none of this affects any of my wrestlers or my Region, however the waters have been muddied and I am afraid that this is going to cheapen our State Tournament.
  23. Local article from Wayne Co. KY where some of the kids that competed in the North Region Tournament. Apperantly many of them competed and placed at KY State. http://wcoutlook.com/localsports/x2118803411/Wayne-Co-Youth-Wrestling-Team-competes-in-Youth-2012-State-Wrestling-Tournament
  24. I get that, but are our children allowed to wrestle in the GA State Tourney? Also should a wrestler that does not wrestle for a TN club be allowed. I know there are some on the borders that train with HCWC and East Ridge. What about kids training in GA clubs that are as far south as Calhoun, GA or Children from as far north as Campbellsville, KY. We have children here in the Clarksville area that wrestle for us and are KY residents. They go and compete at KY State though. IMO if your State has a State Tourney then you should compete in it and not compete at ours, however if you are in a State that does not host a State tourney then you are more than welcome.
