  1. All good points are being posted on this thread.

Here's the breakdown of scholarships available at each level of football.

Keep in mind this is the most they can have on the team at any time. These are not yearly offerings.

    Div I FBS: 85

Div I FCS: 63 (some don't fully fund and give partials)

Divison II: 36 (partials and split up)

NAIA: 24 (partials and split up)

    Div III: No Athletic Money

NJCCA: varies by junior college. Some full, some partial and some none.

If you've got good grades and score high on your ACT at the Div II and NAIA levels they can put together a pretty nice package together for you with athletic money and academic money. At the Div III level you really need great grades and high test scores to get a nice package.

I know several players at the D II and NAIA levels who are getting up to 90% of their tuition, books, and board covered because they had the grades and were good athletes.

Can't Emphasize the Grades and Test Scores Enough!

Good info. As you state the D2 and NAIA schools are quick to try to get a kid academic money if they qualify even if the kid is a hot recruit. That leaves them extra money to possibly split to get money to more recruits. Also know in that process you as a parent can feel like you are dealing with a used car salesman in some of these recruiters. It gets ugly sometimes. They have some recruits they want more than others and will talk to you as if your kid is their first choice but he may be the second....then if they do get the first choice to sign they quit contacting you or only offer partial scholarship when they were talking full before. Be prepared!

  2. Most of these colleges want to hear from the coaches because most parents tend to think their kid is a superstar which some are decent players. The college coaches tend to trust the football coaches assessment of the player better than the parent. Do not discount the D2 schools. There are a ot of good D2 schools in Arkansas and one of the best programs in the country in Cleveland Ms. ( Delta State). These schools also have good academic programs.

  3. Anyone know anything about next years schedule? Heard we picked up Jackson NS and Brighton. Both schools are good picks except for the travel time to JNS. Particularly excited about Brighton...they need to strengthen their schedule and we are right up the road.

Millington is returning a lot of kids that either played a lot or started. A good lineman is returning from knee surgery last year and has gotten bigger and stronger in the offseason (Jesse Mangrum). Line looks good with two returning tackles, and the center, tight end. Good running backs also coming back. Team should be able to settle in better this year as Coach Michaels system is in place and not new anymore. Heard a kid transferred in from the Nashville area and is a possible QB. Any other thoughts???

  4. Visionaire,

(now, having set the record straight...)

All of the 6 items that you listed are 100% FACTUAL, unfortunately for Ridgeway! You are also 100% correct (sadly) about our Inner City Schools and their special teams play.... They absolutely MUST find a way to address this persistent problem.

When one looks at how Ridgeway absolutely dominated the stats vs Hendersonville, only to lose on the scoreboard, it's easy to speculate that this loss will probably haunt Ridgeway's staff and players for many years to come! Multiple breakdowns in special teams led directly to the Roadrunners getting knocked out of the playoffs and not getting a chance to play for the State Championship!

Without a doubt, Ridgeway had a Championship caliber team this year (so did Whitehaven...that's a whole 'nother topic, though). Despite losing last night, the Roadrunners (I strongly suspect) probably still felt like they were the better team!! As you know, I certainly believed that Ridgeway was the best 5A team in the whole State.

At the end of the day, though -- there are NO do-overs in playoff football!! If you're the "better team" then-- hey, you've got to go out on the field and PROVE IT on game night. You only get one shot at it... They don't pass out victories or hand out State Titles to teams with the best stats, or teams that think they're better; only the team with the most points at the end of the game gets awarded the Victory.

Unfortunately for our Memphis Ridgeway Roadrunners (all all us fans), Hendersonville dominated the only "statistic" that matters: The scoreboard.

    DITTO!! It is sad!

  5. So funny to me that Maryville (who has had great success in 4A) is comparing themselves to the only 5A back-to-back public school champions...but hey obviously East Tennessee is great at football, no denying that. Just really funny how you have yet to win with the big boys, yet have the biggest mouth....White Station took it to you guys last year, be honest, Smyrna has yet to lose in a State Championship, to go along with the rest of District 7 who has lost what...1 state championship game?

Whitestation came out of nowhere and won pretty big for a Championship game. They weren't ranked in any natl polls, lost a couple of reg season games, not a lot of hype about them and they won it! Fella's....no one really knows who the better team actually is until about 9:30 friday night.

  6. I say we start a petition somehow. An email petition or one we can send by mail somehow and get people to sign and send back to a central location to put together and send to every administrator and board member plus all schools saying enough is enough. We want a program that is conducive to our kids over anything else(their big salaries and Hawaiin vacations!)

  7. It's bad enough that the T$$AA can't seem to get things right. THEY REALLY DONT CARE what you think. As long as they draw their fat salaries and visit distant beaches, their good! They know it is hard to do anything about it so they continue to do what they do.

If they half way acted like they were somewhat humble and accepted information and advice from people, it probably wouldnt be so bad. At least act like you care!

By the way....$8 per person for a game is too much...especially if you are taking kids with you to see the game.

  8. OK Fellas. Im with you...I have NEVER seen or heard anything good said about the T$$AA. I know of some sorry stuff they have done also.So how do we change it???Im in! Just call an asst principal and complain? That will go nowhere just like most of the complaints (and there are a lot) they get now.

  9. I think Ridgeway wins. They are too powerful in too many places. They have played some tough opponents in Memphis and beat all of them. I dont know much about JNS but I do know Ridgeway has scratched and clawed out some big wins and really came out of nowhere. My team is done this year but I will be at this one Friday night. Should be interesting.

  10. Germantown is a 5-5 team. Brighton is 9-1 and avg 45 pts a game? So Brighton, if they are as good as the polls and some posters say they are should win and win big tonite. Doesnt seem to matter if Gtown is 4a-5a-6a. All arrows point at Brighton winning huge?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? We'll see soon enough.

I dont know if soft schedules are a good thing?!?!?!?

  11. What about the players that live in Craigmont's district that play in other places, Trojan? Some of your players live in that district. Yet there is never a word said from the people at Craigmont to these other schools.

You even said yourself it's players getting kicked off Millington's team that Craigmont is using. So basically what you guys are doing is black listing players you don't even have on your team from playing anywhere else. It sounds like sour grapes.

Sorry for getting off topic, TS but this stuff always happens. This thread was supposed to be about Craigmont/Dyer, and it was ruined by mindless, fruitless complaints from certain people that can't get over things...

Do not deceive yourself....NONE of the Millington players live in the Craigmont school district. There would be ABSOLOUTELY no reason for them to. Millington has a better football program and is a county school. Why in the world would our kids want to go to Craigmont??????????? Let me help you.....they get kicked off the team their SR year. No sour grapes, you guys beat us this year. You had some illegal players, but you beat us...not fair in square, but square none the less. Are you a coach in sheeps clothing or a player? Do you know Gochiefs?????

Friday night I was there for a little while and then went to another game. When I saw DC on the field I saw a smaller team i and size. After a few minutes into the first Quarter I thought is was going to be a long night for DC as Cmont moved the ball at will and seemed to be bigger, stronger and faster than DC and I think they were. Very suprised to see the 10 o'clock news.

The game between Millington and Craigmont will be hugely different nex year I can promise. Our whole offense minus 2 players are coming back and I think you are losing 25+ sr.s. Good luck!

  12. This thread is about Craigmont and Dyer co playing tonight for a chance to move on in the playoffs, not about illegal players. I think I have been reading for years from you Millington fans about the Chiefs over there stealing your players. Have they been in trouble about this? No. I am pretty sure the staff over there doesn't need any former Trojans to win ball games. Let's try and stay on topic please!!

Just so you understand I agree that Craigmont isnt stealing players. They get them eligible when they get kicked off the Millington team with some bogus address. They know the TSSAA is not going to come over here to verify an actual address so it makes it a pretty good gamble to go ahead and play the kid. It has happened in the past,(about 3 yrs ago it was 3 kids)many people are aware of it and it has happened this year, again. If the Chiefs dont want to hear about it, they need to quit doing it.

  14. I have seen a few people put something about this on here, so I called some folks I know and asked about it. Apparently a couple teams claimed that a kid (I believe they said his number is either 26 or 27) who moved from Millington should be ineligible. Someone from the TSSAA has already determined that the kid IS ELIGIBLE. So apparently it is not an investigation since a ruling has already been made.....twice.

I dont beleive the kid is eligible. He is using an address where he did not live and staying with someone who is not his custodial parent. TSSAA did not come down here to verify anything. Just because proper paperwork is in doesnt mean they live where or with whom they say.

  15. There is no way possible for anyone to know who the "Best" team in the state is unless they have seen ALL teams in the state play and then you can only give your opinion unless they play each other. Everyone is making their pick based on what they have seen as KWC stated. If anyone thinks they know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, who the top teams in the state are, I applaud your fervor but you've got issues. Pick your top five and have fun with it.

For info only....Ridgeway and Whitehaven are big, fast, and strong and have beat some other big, fast and strong teams. Just like Whitestation last year.....they're comin!

  16. Kazam37:

Dominating 3A and beating Maryville twice in tha last 2 years does not equate to being the king of high school football in Tennessee. Alcoa is good, we will give you credit for that ... but that's as far as it goes. Can Alcoa compete with every team in the state? Sure. But again ... it doesn't qualify them to be the king. Actually, there is no way to actually determine who would be the 'King' of all classifications.

Everybody will have their own reasons and draw their own 'logical' conclusions, but when it all boils down to it, there is 'NO WAY' to QUANTIFY who is the 'KING' of high school football in Tennessee. It's like the BCS ... everybody will be left to draw their own conclusions based upon their point of view.

But hey ... if YOU don't brag on them ... who will?

    kwc...thats just good preachin!!!

  17. This game is all about pride. As bad as I hate it, it looks like we will not make the playoffs this year. I hope Bolton beats Cordova but I dont see it. If Millington can win this game it would be a great end to a rough season. We know the ball will be thrown just a little and that is our achilles heal. They will score points....will we score enough points off the run to keep up? Hope so....

  18. There are two teams in Memphis area who I believe would challenge any team in the state but its hard for anyone to tell unless you have actually seen all the teams play. Its just a good guess based on pride, fan base, and partiality which is what makes high school football so great. Ridgeway has beat some good teams that came after them and is undefeated and has earned everything they have got. Whitehaven is always a good team with as many D1 picks as any team in the state year after year. If I'm not mistaken a team from the Memphis area won state last year and was so far off the radar of middle and west tennessee they were shocked at how bad they were beat. I think Whitestation also had a couple of losses and still dominated the state game. Fact is we dont know who the best team in the state is, we can only speculate....thats what the playoffs are for. Good luck to all!!!!

Didnt figure this would be too popular!
