    CLASS AAA: BARTLETT BOWERS 3.96

THESE ARE FROM THE UPPER-CUMBERLAND SOUTH PLATEAU RIVER BASIN COACHES ASSOCIATION / HUSQVARNA SKILL CHALLENGE...

    Fully automatic times, stopwatch,or Mississippi's?

  2. According to official rules, runners, paragraph 3, note A: "A ghost runner is only as fast as the runner forcing him."

Thanks for finding the ruling. What about if I courtesy run for a Ghost Runner? Do they have to slap hands in the field of play or not?

  3. Bat responsibility now falls on the coaches of the teams.

Last year, the umpires had to inspect bats. This was a bad idea from the start. Umpires should not be entering the teams dugouts to inspect bats. Umpires have no place in teams dugouts, period.

A batter using an illegal bat is called out. The bat is thrown out by the umpire. Anyone else using the excluded bat is ejected.

I doubt you will ever see schools with on site xray machines.

    Wood is the answer.

X-ray reference was to Norm Cash. I must be so much older than most users to know about his use of corked bats. The comment was in jest.

  4. The new bat rule is way overdue - IMHO. It will speed up the games and make it much more like real baseball - pitching, defense, bunting, stealing, hit and run.

The concern is that I have already heard of some bats being "modified" by taking out the inside rings etc. that make them compliant. How will that be regulated?

I don't think that can be regulated which is sad. There are companies you can find on the internet who will make the inner walls thinner to make bats more responsive already. I have witnessed a college game where a team was thought to have done this and the results were noticeable. The answer is to go back to wood and have an X-ray machine on site to check for corked bats. I have done some research and am woking on perfecting that ala Norm Cash in 1961.

  5. In high school baseball the teams with the best staffs and played the best defense have usually had the most success. This will not change. The trend I hear is that "small ball" will come "back." I am of the opinion that it has not gone that far away. Home runs will be down considerably and miss hit balls will travel less and the jam job bloopers will be down. In order to play "small ball," someone must first get on base. To me, teaching players to drive ball through or over infielders is going to be the biggest change. For decades, swinging to hit the top of the ball to produce ground balls will be more futile with the less responsive bats. Several studies have shown that close to 80 percent of all at bats are classified as "normal" at bats. In that, there is no cause for "small ball." The key to me is having players develop swings that produce longer groundballs, balls that hit in the dirt or beyond, and balls that are driven over the infield defenders. At some point the first guy has to get on.

  6. Loser's Bracket Finals:

Blackman beats Oakland 7-6, OAK eliminated.

Riverdale hangs on to win 6-5 over Blackman. Blackman eliminated.

FINAL: Siegel vs. Riverdale, 4:00, second game to follow if necessary.

Game time is 4:30. Come early and watch the magician on the gator drag the field.

  7. No doubt that Easton Framesbest is one for the best catchers in the state and looks to improve on his .973 blocking percentage from last year. He threw out 14 runners last year, but that number is small because teams began to realize he was one of the best hind-catchers in the state. Rumor is he will be signing with a D2 school with expectations of starting as a freshman or signing with a D1 school with expectations of being a bullpen hind-catcher for two years as he continues to improve.

Additionally, his dad/coach has stated that he fully prepared to help any young hind-catchers in order help prepare them for high school or college. You can contact Brock (The Block) Framesbest on his cell # 502-546-4785

What is your opinion on this guy Vandy?

Is he leftor right handed? Submariner or conventional?

  8. Hey E5, I heard Spook once had an all-state linebacker that was legally blind. Any truth in that?

Only the tip of the iceberg. He also had a left handed guard that was also visually impaired. Had to run only plays that allowed for best vision. He was way ahead of his time as a coach. My only complaint would be asking same player to keep charts on poorly lit fields. Linebacker had great "feel" for the aura of the play in terms of run or pass. He was taught to feel the play with his ears according to the initial line surge.

  9. OK, who or what is a Spook Spickard?

As to Creasy leaving Trousdale, it is better to be the only fish in a small pond instead of being one fish out of about 6 or 7 in a large Pond. Much better overall community support in the small counties than one school among a bunch in this county.

IF SPOOK BECAME THE COACH...HIS MOTIVATION LINE WOULD NOT BE "I BELIEVE" OR "WE ARE BLACKMAN"...INSTEAD IT WOULD BE "PEACE" as he gives you the "peace" sign!

WHAT is a Spook Spickard is a very good question? :hungry:

SPOOK is more like a myth and a legend...and not bad with mules and such. Fast talker too.

  10. I have a concern and several questions

can anyone explain why oakland's running backs are so undisciplined? all they want to do is "tip toe" instead of hitting the hole

i heard from a good source that during practice while other positions are working on their skills, the runnings backs were asked to weed eat the practice field.

    can anyone add to this?

Its way more worster than that. I heared he shows them his high school championship ring and tells stories about "Pretty Boy" and "Squeezer." He looks a lot like Michael "Hog Head" King to me.

  11. E5,

I know you asked for Binns and I'm sure he will answer shortly if he was there... but yes it looked like he had an obstruction call on the last play. Not that it would have mattered, Estill came back and touched the plate I believe. Great game last night. Lebanon did what everybody expected, hit the ball. But Estill came in and stabilized things and allowed Coffee County to jump back in the game.

Thanks for the information. I agree on the game. That smell down the third base line was tough to handle!

  12. Great win Coffee Co. One win away from the state tourney. Keep battling.

    Binns,

Were you at the game? I was sitting down third base line and it appeared that the home plate umpire had an obstruction call on the last play at the plate. Did you see him make that call or did I see something wrong? What association were they assigned from?
