  1. I can't take full credit for our system as it is a combination of several. We start with nine 10 inch nails in the nine spots we want to throw to. We then get at 45 feet and start with the standard Daisy BB's and throw 2 and 4 seam fastballs till we can drive them flush to the wood the nails are in. We then back up to 60 feet with railroad spikes and use water-logged balls and repeat the same method. We do this six days a week starting with a minimum of 100 throws each day. To flush the body we soak in a hot tub with a mixture of Garrett's Seet Snuff, white vinegar, and the cherry blossom bubble bath from Bath and Body Works. After the heat, we fill up a 55 gallon trash can with ice and water and submerge our bodies head first using a common snorkle you can buy at most department stores. You may have to get these in the spring or summer or order them online. Googling for Wings, a store for beach ware, is the best priced snorkles. In pre season we always throw our pens from 70 to 80 feet for the obvious benefits of overload. For underload, we use the Atec balls from 12 feet at 100 percent. We have our batters take BP at twelve feet in the event we face pitchers who throw in the low 120's. We have never lost a game to one of these guys yet. The same is repeated for breaking balls and change ups with the exception of how far we start the nails into the wood. One draw back has been with the limited preseson scrimmages, our breaking balls are always high for the first month of the season. I will defend this method, because it not how you start the season...it's how we finish. Playing the number one seed in the first round of the district tournament has helped us get a head start for summer baseball. Hope this helps.

I have a question on pop times. I am now the first base coach because Bob got a promotion and I am moving from Dugout Dad to first base coach. I have a stop watch but I don't what to do. I have been unable to hear the popcorn poppers start or stop from the coaching box from any of the fields we have played on so far. I have tried to get them before the game, but one of my responsibilties is to make sure the snacks arrive and are properly cooled or kept in the coolest spot if they have any dairy products or chocolate in them. The head coach wanted me to get the pitchers time to the plate. Is this on passed balls when he runs home or from the dugout when he hits. Every time he asks for a time, I just make it up. He said we are not getting good jumps based on my times. Please give me some help. Another issue is what to do with my sunglasses. I have moved up to lead weedeater at work and have the sunglasses with the eye protectors on the sides. Do I put them on my hat? upside down? on the back of my hat? take off the lanyard? Also, do I tuck in my pullover or let it go out?

If anyone has any average times of your popcorn poppers, I would appreciate some numbers.

  2. i was taking up for the summer coach they are great teachers to the so called real coaches in high school

as far as the how big is too big as long as it is a knot and it hasnt popped then i think its ok

    Should I lance it?

    Use a leech?

Let the dog or cat like it?

Use a poltice of witch hazel, garrett's sweet snuff, and hydrogen peroxide?

Let a calf stink on it?

Or simply pop it by slamming two books together?

PS...it only hurts when we throw 50+ sliders with a 12 pound shot...maybe a junior high shot?

    GOTTA HAVE SOME HELP

  3. Shoot! That's nothin'! Find a hidden gem at an LP Convention! 4'8" is a giant at these things. We're talking 3 foot wonders! Their only weakness is covering home on a wild pitch or any bases for that matter. They usually use a cart ride out to the mound and back to the dugout to save time.

Gallatin's Coach: I remember him when he was in high school. He had a carpet on his head in those days now he looks like a conehead from a Saturday Night Live skit.

Gotta call you on that one RU..he ain't never had hair on his head...has he? I can't imagine him any better looking even ifin he had hair.

    R'dman,

Did not mean to stir up the village idiot in you...our summer league coach was voted BP Ball Bucket Man of the Year two years in a row for his JV team as well as Most Likely 2B 26 in Ten Years after his Sophomore year. He has won over 38 games in 11 years of coaching and has sent 10 people to jail and many others have signed with the University of Phoenix as well as the DeVry Institiute. So get off the summer league guys...they have their place.

    Question to all:

How big is too big when it comes to knots on pitcher's elbows?

  4. i have heard about that bartlett guy from lebanon he has a reputation that isnt good

You had to have HEARD about him cause you are BLIND!!! Gotcha. Saw Holland Saturday, was over filming the game at Oakland for future reference. Trying to get him to get me the rest of their copy...copied over some great lecture stuff from Scott Hunt....Hospitatlity Room Manners and How to Get Dippin Sauce out of your White Pants. BTW REDSMAN, Bartlett only worked on tipping pitches during the game, ala bullpen style with the 4"8" feller.

Totally off subject, but how do you guys handle all the summer league coaches watching practice and wnating this signed and that signed. We are having an awful problem...well really just one guy...but I will not call him out here.

  5. What grade is he in? Gotta see this one with my own eyes.

Better see him fast...Freeze will rurn him. He had a guy once throwing in the upper 50's and blew his arm out making him carry food and sauces from the hospitality room. Made him a DH but had to put an action-figure like button in his back to make him swing... blew his knee out on a slider on a cool March game...came all out of joint.

  6. It is my recomendation that you read your post, then read your quote several times. Maybe you'll laugh like I did

    CC,

Who read it to you? We are adding some extra lighting in the visitor dugout for your chart reader this year. I hope it helps. A good jesture would be to have me a box built in the john to help keep my legs from falling asleep.

We are having issues with dropping down the lefthanded hindcatcher...so much rain lately, his knuckles are draging in the water and has developed a rot similar to the one I got as tunnel rat in Nam. Any help would be beneficial.

BTW, Slyder seems sensitive to any negative comments...bad timing or is he turning inot a whiner?

  7. Its pretty easy to write about the guys that hit all the homeruns or strikes everyone out. Lets post the guys that go out when the game is out of hand and takes one on the chin for the team. My vote is Cooter Hatfield for the Buck Snort Owls. Pretty decent fastball... 70-72mph and is developing a curve and changeup. This 19year old junior has a NASTY running screwball, but it only works in the bullpen. He does not care about an earn run average and twice last year, held opponents scoreless for an entire inning. These are the unsung heros. Who does YOUR team have?

That is easy. We have converted my left-handed hindcatcher into a pitcher. I finally figured out that all of the umpires, especially the new moderater, R'daleman are righthanded and could not call enough strikes for the lefthanded hindcatcher. We are now trying to get him not to balk when he pitches from the catcher's crouch. He is also having a bit of trouble throwing from the 60' 6" as opposed to the distance from home to second. We have put in the telephone pole on the bullpen mound to teach him to drop down and be the classic sidewinder. We have got him as high as 67 on the radar gun. I will let you know how it goes.

  8. oh yes i forgot about how much E 5 loves those lefty catchers

Sorry it has been a while since I responded, but as few know, I recently captured my fifth straight Health Teaher of The Year Award. This year's motto was "One For The Thumb." I have won each year with 100% of the ballots cast in my favor. So I have been away speaking on how to avoid carpal tunnel syndrome as you teach Health. Pushing play, stop, and rewind can have adverse effects on your hand joints. So being amphibious really helps....that is being able to use both hands for those not as astute as I am in kinesiology.

CC, you will not have to worry about the legs going numb...I have invested in some inserts to help not only on the toilet but seeing over the mound and the bag at second. I have gone to the sield and had some guys hit fungoes and I can track the ball almost to the edge of the dirt.

Slyder, I am not impressed by throwing around all these AAU-like teams you are assoicated with in the area. I am the Primm Springs Coach of the Year this year...we have over 90 houses in the sub-division. As far as what my focus for baseball will be this year is still up in the air. I have been promoted to Associate Foul Ball Bringer Back Coordinator at a local high school. That will take up most of my time, especially till I get the lay of the land and the hidden areas balls hide in.

Riverdaleman, to steal a saying from a former Warrior, "you are as about as cool as taking a shower with your dad." Love you mean it.

    "Swing Hard...You may hit it"

  9. Thanks fellers, I'm a pretty avid student of the proper swing and this looks like the best tool I've seen yet. I intend to get one soon. Ilove the mechanics this teaches.I'm a firm believer in rotational hitting

Have you seen how to use it with the no-stride method? I spent some time with a certified Epstein instructor and learned to have the ball pop in the air much higher than I was doing forces the hitter to get back on the proper axis which I was not doing by not letting the ball go high enough. This and the newer way they are teaching the Torque Drill has made my instruction much more effective.

  10. E-5 is too cheap to spend 12 bucks to get the plus memebership to be able to post on this board right now

    R'daleman,

At least I don't bring my own cheese from home to put on the burgers when I am scouting at the Reservation. BTW your have given up on your umpiring career??

Just trying to have some fun with old buddies. Did not mean to take away from thread.

  13. Hopefully the 'children' are thru playing so someone can answer your question.

As to how serious it is you must realize that the Oakland vs Riverdale 'Battle for the Boro' was rated one of the top 10 rivalries in the NATION a couple of years ago. It still is only it has been sorta lopsided the last few years in R'dales favor.

Know this first off though this is NOT Memphis and Region 4 is one of the toughest regions in the state. Expectations are VERY high for ANY coach here to either WIN or be ready to move on.

As to the booster club they are VERY supportive and active and supportive. An example of this is their brand new indoor practice facility the boosters provided. Also an adminstration that is committed to the program and to winning.

The poster 2priceless is probably their greatest fan and will probably be on here to answer what I cannot as I am an ex-R'dale players Dad and not as close to that program as I am to Riverdales.

The fans here can be a little rough on coaches that do NOT produce, so if you are thin skinned you can now say you were warned. If you do have a proven record then submit your application. Worst they can do about it is say no Thanks.

My bad..DAD. I will take my fun gene out and get back to the serious discussion of football. Information given out here is worth millions to would be applicants.

  15. Knowledgeable /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> I'm assuming from your name (MemCityCoach), that you are in Memphis--I'm assuming you also no NOTHING of Oakland football since we continuely to beat the crap out of them year-in-year-out /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" /> I'm also assuming that you are an assistant since you are not successful and looking for a new job /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" /> Boy you are pretty stupid right about now Mr. Nonknowledgeable one /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> They have run the spread in the past and recently gone to Wing-T--They also play a version of the 5-2 defense with cover 2--they like to pinch their tackles--I must be really stupid since I played for their DC--Run your mouth some more idiot /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
