  1. Winner where did you get your info. shoes-yes clothing-no uniforms-yes high profile tournaments-yes expenses paid-no the boys last year sold t-shirts and water to raise money plus had the gate from the smokey mountain shootout. it took charlie alot of hard work and years to get where he is today. some people think they should be able to reach that level in a year or two with little time involved.
  2. Stokomo i think we will see big changes in the coming years with aau and the Nike type turneys. It has become such a big money program with all the hype and big name players that the kids are lost and cannot be high school players and enjoy their high school years. Just last summer their was 14 yr. old at Nike camp and he was hyped up as being the next Shac. It will be almost impossible for this kid to live with all the hype adults have put on his back. let them be kids and enjoy life and then lay the hype out their sr. yr.In this day and time a player has to play summer ball to be seen. coachs do not have the time to see HS games so they need a way to see the players in a large group with great comp.at the upper levels. I quess the big problem is that the summer coaches have more pull with the colleges than the HS coachs and this causes a very big problem with EGOS and most of the time the HS coach has more thoughts of the players best interest in mind, but not always. Here is a list of where the Travelers are going to college if i can remember them all, lee humpries - florida matt malone - utc antwan kroger - ttu kenyona - mtsu brett warner- unca lance sexton - cleveland state
  3. Why should the Travelers play the aau games around here the comp is not that great. Take last year the Travelers played in the following cities;Hampton VA.,Bob Gibbons (Duke and UNC gyms),St. Louis,Houston Texas,Morgantown WV.,Bloomington Ind.,Orlando Fla. and Kansas City. When a team gets to play against the comp in these turnaments why play inthe aau. The kids that play for the Travelers are playing in front of college coachs most of the time, this is why they play summer ball. Last year every sr. on Charlies team signed a FULL ride to college can any local aau team say the same? Also three members of the Travelers got to attend the NIKE CAMP in INDY ( Humpries,Malone and Brewer) Need I say more.
  4. Heard that their are some basketball games being played in K-town Sat. at Powell anyone have any info?
  5. Glan to hear he is working, there has been to many kids from east tn. in the past falter at the next level. They did not realize the work it would take to make it. One big name comes to mind that was at ghs two years after me. he could have been in the pros now but was kicked of the tennessee team for doing dumb things. Most kids do not have a clue of what it is like at the next level. They will have to do the school work, the ball work and keep their nose clean and stay out of trouble.Best of luck to Redd and may he reach his goals. But keep in touch with him because he has not seen nothing yet compared to what he is about to go through when he land at VA.
  6. Stokmo I was told after the state turnament he was planning on going to summer school to take a couple classes so he could get on track to be out in four years. Playing basketball is not anything close to doing what you need to do so you would be ready to play football. Yes you would be in cardo shape but Redd needs to be getting alot stronger and live in the weight room atleast 4 days a week. you can not do that and aau.He was a big fish in a lake but now it will be an ocean aand he can sink if he does not get his mind on what is in front of him. 7. Why would Redd be playing for the yellowjackets this summer ? He should be working out hard getting ready for football this fall if he wants to make it. He is not in HS anymore he will have to work harder then he ever has before.
  8. to lovedagame101 sounds like you are blairs brother that lives in k-town am i correct? [Edited by bballlfan on 3-18-03 4:43P]
  9. If i can remember right when SH beat GHS 62 to 60 MALONE lite them up with 31 points including 3 three's and going 13 for 13 from the line and i quess he did not have a game against them
  10. I am not downing REDD just stating some facts. It is great that any player can go to college on a full ride. You would have to be an exceptional athlete and scholar to play two sports in college today because it takes up so much of your time. The idea is to go and get your education not going and play ball and not finish. I hope he made the right choice in VA. But i think they just told him what he wonted to here, but i hope not. AS you can see with UT's problems with grades it is very hard to stay in school just playing one sport. Redd can be a very good player in college. He will have to realize when he gets there they will play him where thay want him, not where he wants to play.He will grow to 6'8" and weigh 280 and be a great DE OR DT if he can cut it.

  12. where do you get your info?Redd has only played against Malone as a soph. in round ball in the hall. and as far as the tn. travelers thay have never played. last summer Redd and his team played the 16 and under travelers and almost got beat at c.n.college. would love to see the match up because they played together as 14 yr. olds. when bestsy came to greeneville before the season both years Redd did not come because he had only been out of football for a week.I have seen alot of college football and i have never seen a 6'7" middle linebacker Redd will end up DE or a down lineman if he gain alot of mass. HOPE BESTYS GOES ALL THE WAY, TAKE ONE GAME AT A TIME [Edited by bballlfan on 3-11-03 8:33P]
  13. Well you were bad wrong with your pick,MALONE stayed out of foul trouble and feed BLAIR all night and shut the middle down. You said their was no way greeneville could beat Maryville what happen? Just maybe you do not know all you think you do.
  14. If you have not noticed when teams double a triple down on MALONE he just feeds of to BLAIR with a total of 5 asssits to #22 and 8 in the game, along with a big dunk,2or3 blocks and a bunch of rebounds. keep rolling devils you played great.
  15. I was at Morristown west last night for the girls I-Mac turny and noticed that the boys consolation game will be on thur. by its self and they will play the finals on friday. This just seems a little odd, looks like they are going for the money
