  1. I forgot there was already a post titled Region 4. My bad.
  2. Brentwood-Centennial final. No offense to either of the other teams. I dont know too much about Centennial only what I see in the papers but I do know Brentwood is awesome if they are allowed to roam free inside their offensive end. They are great athletes who will not tire as the game goes on. McGavock's only chance is to stack their defense and hope to win 1-0, but I really dont see that happening. Brentwood 4-0.
  3. Well put TDJ. All district voting is crap. Teams are given an allotment of players that can be selected in regards to how they finish in their district. Its possible that a goalkeeper can be left out of the all District team or any other position for that matter. It is possible that a complete all district team can be comprised of all strikers, they are not selected by positions. At least District 8 isnt. I guess it is the same for all districts.
  4. Columbia actually played Brentwood to a 0-0 tie through about 72 minutes, before allowing 3 goals in the last eight minutes. Brentwood dominated the game but our defense played awesome until the first goal was scored then we let down because it was obvious we werent going to score..
  5. Well Bean, you were half right. Only Columbia should be tired. They had played the previous two nights with Fridays game being decided in a shoot out. 190 minutes of soccer the previous two nights. Shelbyville only played once the previous two nights, but that is not an excuse. Thats the advantage to winning our district. You get a bye the first round. They deserved to win. They capitalized on the only real scoring threat of the night, a pk. Columbia prides itself on a strong defense and even as tired as we were, still played strong.
  6. I thought the title of this post was CA-Page. How did Fairview manage to get involved? Give it up, fellas. Just to answer one of Eastside's numerous complaints, several of CA's players do play club soccer. How can you dis a team that loses when that team has advanced further than you did. I know the Columbia teams arent as strong as some of the Williamson County teams, and even though CA is not as strong as in years past, both Columbia Central and CA are strong teams. You dont hear any of the players from either of these teams bragging about how good they are when there are numerous teams in the area that are better. CA has always been a strong team but unfortunately they lost several key players from last year. Sooner or later every team goes through this. To hear Eastside complain over and over about refereeing, means he has trouble facing reality. The reality being that his team is mediocre and thats it. Accept it and try to improve next year. Go CA
  7. Shelbyville beat us tonight 1-0 on a pk late in the first half. It was a good call. Our mouths got us in trouble with the refs. Both defences played real well with not many good scoring oppurtunities. The game could have gone either way. Once again the officiating was good. They called all the blatant fouls and were consistent with the marginal calls. They let us play fairly physical, but never let it get out of hand. Our defender pulled their attacker down in the box on a partial breakaway. The ref had no choice but to call the pk. Our defender should have let the attacker go cause the breakaway was down side and I had a good angle on it, but hindsight is 20/20. Number 23, I think his name is Cotter drilled a perfect pk just inside the post to my right. Two teams battled hard but when it was over both teams showed lots of class congratulating each other. Brian Henningway is a top notch ref. He never let the fans get the best of him instead he took the time to explain some of the calls, especially an off sides call where our player was off and then tried to get back on. I know it must be real hard on the refs sometimes when they constantly get abused by the fans. Sometimes they deserve it, but alot of times it is because it is the fans that dont know the rules, not the refs. Good job, Brian.
  8. If your defense can contain their offense outside the 18 you can keep it close. Once they get inside they are very hard to stop. That was our strategy (Columbia Central) and it worked for 70 minutes. But they scored 3 in the last 10 minutes and won 3-0. Our defense got tired late and they were able to penetrate. They are very athletic and physical. Pressure their strikers and hopefully they will rush their shots. Keep it close and who knows? Good luck, you will need it.
  9. i think both matches will be very close both riverdale and shelbyville are good teams i believe riverdale has more of an offensive attack but the game should be very close expecially if shelbyville can get shots off. As for us and blackman im not really sure they had beat us early in the season 4-0 but that was with our back up keeper and without our starting sweeper but im hoping we come out on top and i hope to play shelbyville again good luck to all though. On paper it would look like a Riverdale-Blackman final since riverdale beat Shelbyville earlier in the season 5-1 and blackman beat columbia 4-0, but both Columbia and Shelbyville have improved as the year went on. Blackman and Riverdale are strong teams with potent offenses and Shelbyville and Columbia are both very strong defensively.
  10. Zac Walker, soph starting sweeper 12 for Columbia Central and Jack Sowell freshman 34 from Columbia Central.
  11. this was a well played match on both sides with heartbreak on the side of us (Columbia) losing to a pk in the first half neither team dominated but it was a good game good luck to shelbyville as they host riverdale and we go to blackman tuesday
  12. Tell me a little about the Shelbyville-Franklin co. game.
  13. Thanks. See you guys next year. Those were two really good games against you guys this year. How many starting seniors do you lose this year? We will lose three with some real strong jv players moving up. I read alot of crap about you guys playing dirty. Nothing could be further from the truth. You guys played with alot of class and sportsmanship. Good luck.
  14. Columbia plays Shelbyville tonight in the district finals. They tied 1-1 earlier in the season. Columbia may be a little worn down after playing two nights in a row and last nights game going to a shootout. Our defense got tested pretty good last night against Tullahoma and will probably get the same treatment from Shelbyville. What do y'all think?
  15. Columbia beat Tullahoma tonight 0-0 (3-1) shootout. Anybody who was lucky enough to watch this game saw a fantastic game. Both teams played great. Great officiating and cleanly played by both squads. Tullahoma had more chances throughout the game, but Columbia prevailed in the shootout.
  16. Give it up, Eastside. Youre only making yourself look bad. You lost and thats it. Quit making excuses. If everything you say about your team is true, then you guys should be a team to be reckoned with next year, but this year is over. CA advances, like it or not.
  17. Columbia beat Coffee Co. tonight 4-0.
  18. When and where did Lawrence Co. and Coffee Co. play.
  19. I sure hope Fairview plays some really good teams next year. Maybe some humility will set in.
  20. I agree. A keeper should be confident, but not conceited.
  21. Congratulations on finishing first in the district. We (Columbia) hope to play you guys again this year. Columbia and Columbia Academy got cancelled tonight. Replay tomorrow. Good luck the rest of the way.
  22. A good striker will score well over 50% of the time. Most saves made are usually right at the keeper. Even if the keeper guesses right he has to guess the height also. Watch the pros. They score probably 90% of the time. Granted they shoot the ball alot harder than high school players. The only chance for a pro keeper is to guess because they shoot so hard you have no reflex time at all. In high school the keeper may have enough reflex time to pick up the direction of the shot. Thats why I give the striker a 75% chance in high school. Good keepers are not judged by how well they do against pks. If they happen to be good at that is definitely a bonus. But this does make for an interesting conversation.
  23. Columbia and Columbia Academy play Tuesday. This has always been a good rivalry since alot of the players from both teams grew up together and play travel soccer together. I guess for 80 minutes we will put all that on hold. These two teams have always played it clean on the field, not like alot of other rivalries I have read about. I hope this game is no different. Any thoughts?????
  24. What time is the game on Monday?
  25. I stated earlier in the season that I thought District 8 would be a very competitive district. After seeing how close alot of these district games were I think the tournament will be very tight. If you look at alot of other districts you can see one or two poor teams that get beat 5 or 6 to zero every game. So right off the bat you can eliminate these teams from advancing in the playoffs. Thats not the case with District 8. You see alot of 1-0 and 2-1 scores. Thats what is going to make District 8 playoffs very competitive. Shelbyville played consistent all year long. Columbia started slow and came on strong at the end. Tullahoma came on strong at the end. I predict two out of these three teams will advance past the districts. Any thoughts????
