  1. do the same people that pick all mid state, pick all state? there was some people that made 2nd team or didnt even make all mid state but made all state... im just confused how that would be
  2. Thanks Coacht. for giving us an arena where we can talk HS sports with one another. Unfortunately we get a little off base and take pot shots at each other. I know that wasnt what this web site was set up for. Not only do the players get something out of this, but there are quite a few parents also. Thanks
  3. All Mid State will be in the Tennessean on Wednesday.
  4. Ditto. You shouldnt ask someone for their opinion, and then get mad if you dont agree with it. Some Fairview players (well maybe it was only 1) bragged about their team and made excuses for their losses over and over and over and over and over this year. Dont brag until you have accomplished something. No offense, but thats just the way it is.
  5. Whether Mike Rose is the best complex or not, everyone will have their opinion. Why do teams play all year long on fields that have scoreboards that work, but go to the state championships and the scoreboards dont. Ive said before maybe mother nature had something to do with the condition of the fields but there is no excuse for the scoreboards not working. A little extra effort could have been made since some teams travelled 8 hours to get there. But I guess we should stop beating a dead horse. Im sure TSSAA has received alot of feedback so we will see if any changes are made next year. I hope I get to go to Memphis again next year. But to say the teams that made it to Memphis should be grateful is somewhat accurate. But remember it wasnt handed to them, they earned it. The teams had to win 5 or 6 playoff games to get there. Oh by the way the only middle Tn. fields that have been mentioned have been Murfreesboro, Nashville, and Hendersonville. Why hasnt anyone mentioned Franklin? Franklin has one of the best soccer programs in the state not to mention some pretty nice fields also. Memphis gave the best bid for the games, that doesnt necessarilly mean they have the best complex.
  6. Yes Farragut did score a third goal, but if the second goal never came about, then Bearden probably would have played a different style. I was not at the game so I cant say whether the hand ball was a good call or not. But you are right everyone should just accept the ref's call and move on. I know this hand ball stuff makes for a good debate, but the bottom line is Farragut won. Would Farragut have won if the hand ball was not called, who knows? Im sure this isnt the only controversial play that either of these teams encountered this past year, but it looks like it is the most significant. Congrats to both teams.
  7. Are there any mid state school or travel teams that want to scrimmage over the summer? Escpecially district 7 or 8 Contact Mike Cartmell, Columbia Hurricanes U18 div.2 Freekick2001@hotmail.com 931-388-0907
  8. I see Centennial being strong next year. They are a young team that surprised alot of teams this year.
  9. You are absolutely right. Franklin Co, Tullahoma, Cookeville arent what they once were. Other teams have stepped up and replaced them. That doesnt mean these new teams arent as good as the other teams were. Did you see Columbia,Shelbyville, Blackman or Riverdale play this year? Last year it was Tullahoma and Franklin Co. from district 8 and Cookeville and Oakland from district 9. We can argue forever who the better teams were but the point is teams go through rebuilding phases and get replaced. We beat Oakland last year but never got to play Cookeville. I thought both Blackman and Riverdale were very good teams. Blackman was ranked in the top 11 for part of the year. Next year if Columbia or Shelbyville fall off their game people might say that the district isnt as strong as it once was. That too wouldnt be fair because sooner or later top teams get replaced. I wasnt being touchy, I was just trying to be objective. Im sure you were just trying to do the same.
  10. Rick, you made more sense with your first post. lol Great response. I agree with everything you said, even if that second post took me forever to read. Your first one was easier to understand.
  11. Columbia Central will only lose three starters. Their replacements are above average players so they should be very strong next year. Columbia will definitely need to improve their offense though. Their defense is real strong. Next years squad will probably start 7 seniors, 3 juniors and 1 sophomore.
  12. Well put, coach. You are not the only person to say things out of character and get caught up in the moment. It shows real character to apoplogize. Im sure there are other coaches and players to say things out of character and never apologize.
  13. We (Columbia Central) do not deserve to be number 4. Although we had a good playoff run, teams like hendersonville, Clarksville and Brentwood definitely deserve to be ranked higher than us. We arent complaining but we know these teams would most likely beat us. Brentwood beat us earlier in the year 3-0 and dominated us throughout. Hendersonville only lost once all year. I think if I was any of these teams I would be a little upset with the final rankings. I guess they took the final four teams in the state championship and went from there.
  14. Thats what Ive been told. They should have scoreboards working for them too, or why have the scoreboards at all. I was just saying this is something in their control. Maybe the condition of the fields were not in their control, but the scoreboards certainly are.
  15. I ve been told over and over how the scoreboards have never worked. but they have never hosted the state championships before. Dont you think they might have been able to arrange that. Maybe the condition of the fields were out of their control, but surely the scoreboards wont. I thought the ceremonies were fun. It relieved the stress a little. The flippers were kinda cool, and the mascots were so corny they were actually funny. It got us out of the hotel. Next year fix the scoreboards.
  16. why is it 411 you think we are gonna be so horrible next year? we only loose one senior who actually did anything all year and thats our right fullback michael jennings the other spots have already been replaced with people who can do as good if not better job than them and as for jennings freshman jack sowell should be taking his spot so next year all i can see is us improving but you seem to think different... a great defense brought us to memphis and we only lose one player so why is it you think we are gonna be so horrible not to make it out of district? .....oh and about the luck i already agreed with you that we got the luckiest of the draws but luck didnt bring us the whole way it took some talent, some hardwork, some teamwork, and some wonderful defense Bryan Cartmell GK
  17. The opening ceremonies were kinda neat, but lets face it, the only reason they had them downtown was to get people to walk the streets and spend money.
  18. Granted the fields werent in the best of shape, maybe the weather had something to do with it, maybe not. But why no ball persons on the sidelines and we still have not figured out why the scoreboards werent working. If anyone knows why the scoreboards werent working maybe we can put to rest this confusing situation. You would think that for state championship games the scoreboards would be working. I cant remember a single game this season where we didnt have a scoreboard. Consider this, a team just travelled 9 hours and witnesses shabby fields, no ball persons and no scoreboard. What do you think their impression is going to be? I know Memphis thought that alot of people would see the sights once they were there, and having the opening ceremonies downtown maybe alot of people did, but I personally thought the facilities could have been a little better. But Im still grateful I had the oppurtunity to be there. We got to spend three days there cause we won our first game, but some teams travelled 9 hours and lost just to turn around and go home. I wish the midstate could have presented a better bid to TSSAA to secure these games. Not because I live in the midstate, but because it would have been the most logical. Mike Rose is a beautiful complex but a little more work could have been put forth. And yes there are alot more important issues going on in the world. But lighting scoreboards and maintaining fields are alot easier than world peace.
  19. The Flippers were pretty cool. But alot of teams probably wished they didnt have to drive 9 hours to see them.
  20. Two great teams just played incredible soccer for 100 minutes. Anytime there is a handball in the box in the last five minutes of overtime, unless it is quite obvious, is going to be controversial. Both coaches should understand that and accept the ref's decision. If he didnt make the call the Farragut coach would understandably be upset. But the ref is in a no-win situation on this one. The coaches, players, and fans should understand that and accept the call. It s not the refs fault the play developed the way it did. Bearden was the 2 time defending champions and should have nothing to be ashamed of and neither should their fans. They should be proud that another Knoxville team succeeded them.
  21. Thats too bad. You would think that if two incredible teams like Farragut and Bearden could take the field against each other and play their hearts out for 100 minutes the fans could appreciate that and give credit where credit is due. Not trying to defend anyone, but what if the situation was reversed? Any handball in the box in the last five minutes of ot, unless it is quite obvious will always be controversial. The fans though should understand that the refs will come under criticism regardless how they make that call. You hate to see a game decided by the refs though. I am a father that has been following soccer for a long time. I have always been critical of fan behavior whether it is my son's team or not. I hate when fans only see the calls that go against them and then walk away blaming the refs. I coach travel soccer and will not allow my players to abuse the referees and what really irks me is when the players want to blame the refs for their loss instead of their own play. I was only stating that when I met the Bearden fans they showed alot of class. Maybe thats because they were winning. I dont know. Anyway sportsmanship should be shown in the stands as well as the field. If you play for Farragut, congratulations. This must be an awesome feeling for you. Mike Cartmell (Columbia Gk's dad)
  22. Nothing cuts deeper than the truth. By the way Collierville was 10-7. soccerinfo.com did not have all the games included. If you read any of my other posts you would have seen that I mentioned how hard your playoff run was compared to ours. You guys are a good team that had to beat some good teams to finish where you did. But keep complaining that ought to build character!!!!!!! And as far as us not being any good next year, I guess you know our team better than we do especially since you KNOW FOR A FACT that we had at least 6 seniors start this year (but as everyone else knows we only had 3) Quit putting your foot in your mouth and move on.
  23. The rain definitely had a lot to do with the fields, but why werent the scoreboards working? I realize Memphis outbidded everybody for the fling, but Nashville would have accomodated the teams alot better since it is in the middle of the state. 9 or 10 hours is a long haul especially for only one game.
  24. Hey Seldon, what happened with the bearden fans? Congrats to Farragut it had to be a real war out there.
  25. Nothing cuts deeper than the truth. But yes time to move on. You guys are a good team. Good luck next year. I thought you were "scouting" Riverdale, not supporting them. At least thats what you told us at the game. I probably misunderstood you. Sorry.
