  1. It's Latin. It means "In This Sign You Will Conquer."
  2. Yes, graduating seniors are still considered to be in the Junior Division and are eligible to compete at all Junior level competitions including Junior Nationals in Fargo, ND. Coach Blair
  3. Chase is wrestling at 125. Russell is out for the season with a back injury.
  4. 140 will have Holliman from Brentwood (#1 in DI), Hussein from Baylor (#1 in DII), Caples from Hillsboro (#2 in DI), and Winesburgh from Soddy (#4 in DI).
  5. Coach Peck, I'm wondering. How many other head coaches are getting on this board and asking wrestlers from other schools what their team's plans are? Even if it is for your region rankings, does this seem very professional? Coach Blair
  6. Actually, BA beat Brentwood for 3rd.
  7. Bobby Musser - Cal State Bakersfield Cal State Wrestling
  8. Yeah, me neither. We also had a VERY good middle schooler (won the Southern Open this past year as an 8th grader) working out occasionally in our room that wanted to go and probably could have done some good. But, he wasn't old enough by USAW's standards. As far as going up a level, if the rules allow it, fine. If not, wrestle where you are.
  9. maj, As a former wrestler and a current coach, I agree with your belief about younger advanced wrestlers going up to compete with older wrestlers their size. It's a part of the sport. You don't get any better beating lower caliber competition that you've already beaten. You need to challenge yourself. However, I believe the issue here isn't so much safety as it is the interpretation of rules. USAW's policy in regards to these National Age Level Dual events is that you must be in that Age Level to compete. Their definition of a Cadet is someone born in the years 1989 to 1990. If you don't fit in that range, you're not a Cadet, and therefore you can't compete. On the local grassroots level we're probably more linient of this with parental concent in order to get kids more matches. USAW gives us the freedom to allow going up an age level because we probably have a better idea of that particular wrestler's abilities. Once you get to a Regional or National Level, though, it's strictly enforced. This past spring and summer I cut back on my participation with TWF, so I wasn't apart of any of these events and can't say who's right and wrong one way or the other. But, I can say you go by the rules no matter what their reasons are for being. Just my $0.02 Coach Blair
  10. This Saturday, March 5th, the newly formed Buzz Saw Wrestling Club will be hosting the 3rd annual Freestyle and Greco Roman Technique and Officials clinic in the Brentwood High Wrestling Room. This clinic is open to everyone and only requires the purchase of either a USA Wrestling card or a TWF State League card. If you've already purchased your card for this season, there is no further charge. If not, cards will be available for purchase. Our schedule is as follows: 8:00 am to 9:00 am - Registration 9:00 am to 11:00 - technique clinic 11:00 am to 12:30 pm - officials clinic 12:30 pm to 1:00 pm - exhibition matches and officials training The wrestling room is located behind the high school. We will have signs directing the way. If you have any questions contact Joe Blair at 615-472-4221 ext. 3635 or email me at joeb@wcs.edu
  11. It actually should be Bradley Felix of Franklin instead of Tisdale. Felix placed in 2003, but didn't wrestle last year. He was moved from 2nd to 4th seed. Coach Blair
  12. If you're talking UNDEFEATED 4x state champs, Zach Roberson from Kansas was 153-0 in high school. He did, however, lose in the finals of the Senior Nationals 1-0, but that was after his 4th state title. Gable was undefeated, but not a 4 timer. He did not wrestle varsity his freshman year in high school or college. I'm not sure why he didn't in high school, but in college at that time the NCAA didn't allow freshmen to start. Dan Gable's Stats
  13. Brackets will be posted at Fiscus Consulting in the morning. Coach Blair
  14. tradewind, I stand corrected. I was at that tournament and knew there was a round robin between Nick, Weinzapfel, and Coughlin and that they all beat each other, but got confused on the order. Nick beat Weinzapfel, Weinzapfel beat Coughlin, and Coughlin beat Nick. Thanks for the insight. Coach Blair
  15. Two years ago at Mater Dei's freestyle tournament Nick Marable beat Coughlin. Can't remember the score, but it was a close match.
  16. Coughlin's also the defending 160 Junior National Freestyle Champion from this past summer up in Fargo.
  17. EJessen, go to the post about the GP West/Bruin Invitational. Coach Blair
  18. It is not a matter of being uninvited. Last spring your coach came and asked if Lipscomb could come and I told him that we were full, but that I would put him on a waiting list in case anyone dropped out. Then, I would contact him a let him know that he had a spot. I had quite a few teams already in front of them on that list. No one dropped out, so there was no spot. I would like to be able to host as many teams as want to come, but only have so much space to work with. 24 teams is pretty much our limit. Coach Blair
  19. The 2005 G. P. West/Bruin Invitational will be held this Friday and Saturday at Brentwood High School. Wrestling will begin at 6:00 pm on Friday and 9:30 am on Saturday. 20. Matre Dei is bringing varsity, JV, and freshmen teams. I'll have a complete list of teams posted later today. Coach Blair
  21. Yes, this is the same Bobby Musser. He goes to Cimmaron Memorial High School in Las Vegas. #1 Dad, I think you were looking at a bracket from last year. He was eliminated one match shy of the medals at 152 in 2003. Tough doesn't even begin to discribe this kid. He's a hard worker and loves to compete.
  22. Actually, they've wrestled twice now. Last week Max beat Bond 11-7. Yesterday at the Kenwood Klassic Bond beat Max 5-0 in the finals at 160.
