  1. It used to higher seeds hosted until the final 4 were reached and then proceed to host site. Now, I think the entire tournament is at the host site. I might be wrong though.
  2. Lookout Valley wins this District with ease. Then they will beat Grace or whoever comes out of District 5 without breaking a sweat and win Region 3. After that, it's time to play baseball.
  3. First of all, a runner NEVER has to slide. If a runner does choose to slide, the slide must be a legal slide. Rule 2, Section 32, article 1 states: ...A legal slide can be either feet first or head first. If a runner slide feet first, at least one leg and buttock shall be on the ground. If a runner slides, he must slide within reach of the base with either a hand or a foot. A runner may slide or run in a direction away from the fielder to avoid making contact or altering the play of the fielder. Examples of illegal slides can be found in the NFHS rulebook under Rule 2, Section 32, article 2. They are: a. the runner uses a rolling, cross-body or pop-up slide into the fielder, or b. the runner's raised leg is higher than the fielder's knee when the fielder is in a standing position, or c. the runner goes beyond the base and then makes contact with or alters the play of the fielder, or d. the runner slashes or kicks the fielder with either leg, or e. the runner tries to injure the fielder, or f. the runner, on a force play does not slide on the ground and in a direct line between the bases. In a play at the plate, the runner must seek to avoid contact with the fielder. Sometimes, that's not possible, there are "train wrecks" and sometimes the umpire has to umpire.

    Rules

Here's two from the outfield. Deep shot to left field, left fielder goes back to the fence, ball hits his glove and goes directly over the fence. Fans and defensive head coach all want a ground rule double called because left fielder touched it before it went over the fence. Different game, ball hit to deep center field, center fielder has the ball go into his glove, out of his glove, off the fence and then catches it. Guess what, this coach wanted the out. Go figure.

    Rules

Correct. All starters have reenty privileges one time. Subs have no reentry privileges. As far as visits to the mound, riverdaleman nailed it. And remember, like he said, if you change pitchers, it's not a visit.
  6. Sometimes you just have to do it Sequatchie Valley Classic yourself.
  7. Sorry, coulda swore I saw them listed in the schedule here.
  8. Suggestion: STOP ###### AND MOANING ABOUT THE UMPIRING! BE PART OF THE SOLUTION, SIGN UP TO UMPIRE.
  9. LOL, see if you can find "Patches" by Clarence Carter, I love that song.
  10. Unfortunately, we only work 3-man during most of the District tournaments here in Chattanooga. I truly wish we would do it more often, much better coverages, etc. as others have said. On a side note, how is Riverdale doing? I had them for 2 games here in McCallie's tournament and they looked solid. I hope to see you guys in May, I understand I will be there, so hope to see yall.
  11. You might want to post all your facts and not add them after the fact. I stand by my statement that if you want to bad enough, you can umpire.
  12. Where are you from? What part of the state? Are the coaches in you area expressing their displeasure with the quality of the umpiring to the local umpiring association? If not, why not? The schools are the customers of the umpires and if the customers are not satisfied, they usually find another service provider. I don't know where you are from, but to make the statement that.."getting a bad umpire is almost expected now ..." is kind of sad and somewhat scary to say the least if it is true. Most associations have 10% really good umpires, 10% poor umpires and 80% average umpires. It sounds like you are only seeing the 10% poor umpires. I find that hard to believe. As davidlimbaugh has said, most of us umpire high school baseball simply because of the love of the game and for the opportunity to remain a part of it. I'll not bore you about pay or travel or the inconvenience of trying to balance umpiring with a regular job. Suffice it to say that if you want to work high school or college baseball you really, really have to work at it. It is a balancing act. In closing, I truly believe that most umpires go onto the field wanting to do a very good job. I am proud of what I can contribute to the game and I work hard on my appearance, rules knowledge, game management and mechanics so that I am able to perform my chosen task.
  13. Why can't you umpire high school baseball with a 8-5 job? If you are serious about umpiring, you can find games that fit your schedule. Saying you can't do it because of your job is a cop-out to say the least. I do it, so can you. How do you sign up? Go to your nearest high school, find out when the next baseball game is and attend. Before or after the game (preferably before), find the umpires and ask who their assignor is. Call the assignor and tell he/she that you are interested and follow their directions. Pretty simple really if you are truly serious about wanting to umpire.
  14. My only thoughts are...it is only 2 weeks into the season. Sorry, couldn't resist. Marion Co. is still the top dog until someone knocks them off.
  15. Thanks for the kind words. I think I did meet Limbaugh, if he was in the dugout, although I didn't identify myself formally. You guys have a solid, solid team. I know you're in a really tough district, but I bet you will do very well. Your son is a heck of a ball player, I bet you're very proud. Oh, I did like the HAIR styles, too! Best of luck the rest of the year, I hope to see yall again at the Fling.
  16. I was in the field for your game last night with Soddy Daisy. I did have the dish for your game today with PJP2. You guys have a good ball club, I hope you go far.
  17. Here's a little more information from Chattanoogan.com.
  18. Riverdale defeated Soddy Daisy, 12-6.
  19. Sequatchie County looked pretty good, very scrappy ball club. Ward Gossett had a very good article on them in the Chattanooga Times Free Press: Seq. Co.
  20. Thanks Indian. The Murfreesboro area has great teams with wonderful, wonderful facilities. They should be very proud of their region. Anyway, congrats to these 2 fine young men from Red Bank. Just thought it was a good high school baseball article.
  21. Good Lord. Reread what I wrote, geez. I said I agreed with you, moron, and simply made another point.
