  1. Morristown West vs. Jefferson County

This game will be well worth the price of admission. This is not the same Jefferson County teams of the past lead at the helm of Craig Kisabeth. Scott Meadows is an excellent coach.....with that said, the game will be a close one. It will be the game of the week, but West's defense is unreal.

  2. Word this, word that..the fact still remains that both Jefferson County and Morristown East have not played anyone worth a dime. Morristown West played a top-five team in Cleveland.

So, for those jumping off the West bandwagon, jump back on...Don D. Woods will adjust to the offensive woes.

West's squad may not have the offense this season, but West does have one thing... The Don D. Woods factor. Enough said.

  3. Mr. Truth,

What do you mean if they don't make changes? Are there changes you think they should make? Just got off the phone with a East M-town fan and he said that the #3 player wasn't hurt that they where just not playing him in the rotation. It also sound like East is a lot better this year, they sound excited with the new coach and the attitude he has brought in.

What I have heard about Woods is if he needs to make the changes he will, he will give the upper classmen a chance to prove or win a position but when it comes down to it he will make the move and put the better kid in when the confrence is on the line or a big rival. Is this true?

Well, I would end the Minnich debacle at quarterback and put Matt Rice there. West will not win with him there. Minnich is a good kid, but that alone will not bring a district title. Rice won at Lincoln and he would win at West as their quarterback.

I would also pound Shockley and Loveless up the middle more. That seemed to work. The left/right sweeps are not a strong thing for Rucker, he is too slow. He is more of a pounder of off tackle plays. I would put Rice at QB, and let the fullback Shockley do his thing more.

  4. Morristown West and Cleveland was a pure battle of defense. Well, West had the better defense, but a much worse offense. If West could have found any way to move the ball, this game would have been a blow out for West. If West doesn't make changes on offense, they will not win like in the past. But, with Pee Wee Fanney, Kaleb Goforth, Emmanuel Frederick, Eddy Gregg, and Justin Hite on defense, they should win games like the movie 'Waterboy'..just leave the defense on the field and hopefully the defense can score. If Cleveland's Barber is the best back in the state, then, you might need to look around the state more. He's a decent running back.

  5. If I was the visiting broadcaster, I would call the game from the stands via telephone and tell that old man coach...who cares, your team is awful.

  6. West 45, East 10.

Same as always. West is the best, East is the least.

This is the worst post anybody has EVER written. East High has NO chance. East High Fan, go pick on a 1-A school.

  7. The Morristown East beat goes to Derwin Helton. He has done the beat for over 20 years. Every writer has their own style. It is just like an athlete. Trent takes a more conservative, fact ridden aspect to his stories. Kevin Barnard and Barry Campbell take a more homer approach. Their style is more new school, than old school. Kevin Utt was recently voted the state's best prep (high school) writer in the state of Tennessee. So, his psychological approach works with the judges. So, JPATS 55, if one style does not work for you, it does for another. So, sports writing is just a personal preference to the reader. Since, the newspaper is located in Morristown, they do a better job of covering Morristown East and West. That is the main draw. But, Jefferson County has been covered with a reporter ever since the days of former Sports Editor Justin Cress. Statistics at the Tribune show that over 10,000 Jefferson Countians subscribe to the Sunday issue of the Citizen Tribune during football season. With that alone, Jefferson County football is worth sending a reporter to. Anything the Tribune does is better than the Standard Banner. The Tribune has strong writers, so they should be applauded.

  8. Jive..I know who you are. I know who Transplant is. I'm just shooting the bull. We are all on the same side. I have no clue who that last guy is. I figured he was your boy. Not sure, though. Dude, I was also the fastest back as a Saint. I could have made it to the NFL, but my mom said I was too small -ha.

    Holla

  9. Great..Maroon. Heath Shuler is selling real estate right now. Carl Pickens is selling drugs. From Morristown West, alma mater James 'Littleman' Stewart is still racking up 1,000 yard seasons in the NFL. Plus, he was the all-time rushing leader at UT. That my friend, is the difference between Morristown West and Swain County

Morristown West 28, Swain County 17

  10. What? I cannot believe a read this ridicilous post. Morristown West returns 10-of-11 starters on defense. Kaleb Goforth, Pee-wee Fanney, and Emanuel Fredericks. Those are Division 1 football players. Also, they have Adam Shockley and Charles Rucker returning in the backfield. How can ANYONE say West will be a .500 team or even a 2-8 squad. I know they have a tough schedule, plus the Swain County, N.C. contest. But, to say they will be a .500 team is crazy. But, West's biggest factor in their returnees is Don D. Woods. Please do not forget that. They will ALWAYS win with him there. West is not afraid to play the tough schedule. Once again, they will challenge for the state title; end of discussion. Oh yeah, another reply for the guy who said Jefferson County will go undefeated and win a state title......HA. You are a comedian.

  11. Braun Dabbs of Greeneville a few years ago was a lot like Scooter Houston. Dabbs was the main scoring star on Greeneville's state runner-up squad. When Dabbs ran into the big boys, there were two hits. The big linebackers hitting him, and him hitting the ground. The same can be said for Scooter. He is a strong high school player, but he will NEVER be a force in college. They are guys almost twice his size running with his kind of quickness.
