  1. There was no text, just an overblown rumor that gave the administration the go ahead to oust another coach they didn't like. Macon is turning into a coaching graveyard like Warren County has been for some time. Perhaps new coaches in both places will pull the players, fans and coaches out of the misery they've endured at the hands of the 'good 'ole boys'.

  2. Data, Facts. Opinions have the bad habit of letting a small vocal minority paint a very bad picture that isn't nearly the truth. I know people who spit at the mention of my boss, but the people actually in the school know the truth. I dare say one sub's bad experience and some vocal parents pissed off doesn't give a true and complete picture of LMS.

Will Hester's record isn't impressive. He had a good year on 2005 on the back of a heck of qb.

Good principals, good coaches and good teachers tune out the negative static and tune in to the positives they are doing.

Look at the reviews from students and parents. Words like "horrible" ..."terrible"..."worst ever" in their opinon of LMS. This may not be the fault of Mr. Ash but it is the reality of how tons of people feel about the situation over there.

  3. Thats not a "bare minimum" standard they met, but you can search other schools to see that. And that number of suspensions and expulsions is far more typical than atypical (high side for Rutherford, but not atypical for a school that side with a similar demographic). There are people on this thread searching for reasons to badmouth LMS, Dirk Ash, and Will Hester, LMS's academic performance and school profile doesn't support that. In fact take a look at Blackman Middle in comparison. Blackman middle has over 700 out of 900 students classified white, far fewer suspensions, no expulsions and pitiful academic gains numbers (but higher achievement scores)..in comparison to LMS. I scanned the rest of the schools in Rutherford. LMS has nothing to be ashamed of and the parents may not like Dirk Ash (I know him professionally and can assure you I know why some parents get rubbed the wrong way by him), but he looks to have done a good job with his time at LMS. Oh, and the suspension is more than Blackman, but less than Central (Central is 7 and 8 with a 10% higher white population).

I went to that link provided from the state about all schools and saw that 10.8% of LMS students had been suspended - 99 suspensions and that didn't include 6 expelled that it listed.

This doesn't mean all kids there are bad, but that is WAY too many having to be dealt with regarding conduct.

Meeting bare minimum academic standards also is nothing to brag about.

  4. Backing up statements with facts and links to the facts is something lacking on message boards.

http://state.tn.us/education/reportcard/index.shtml This link takes you to the state dept of ed website. Click the graphic that says TDOE Report card and then use the drop down menus to select Lavergne Middle School. You'll find some crow to eat. LMS is a good school according to NCLB standards. On the same link above you'll find a link that says: TVAAS (connect to School Search and more - Public Use). Click this link and then click reports and select school reflection. Figure out the navigation and you can check LMS in every subject. There is some growth lacking in the 7th grade, but overall this is a good school.

Spend one hour at LHS and you will know why Daniels is out. It doesn't matter if he is black, white, purple, or polka dotted. The school is a mess. Change has to start at the top. Yes, there are good teachers and good kids at LHS but they are not the majority. And ones that are borderline and could be good become complacent because nothing more is expected from them. Then spend one hour at LMS and you will know why Ash is in. LHS has been given an opportunity to change its image and I hope that the entire school- administration, faculty, and students take advantage of the chance.

Really? I heard that the conduct of the 7th graders at LMS last year was so bad that it took not one but TWO full time math teachers to teach 7th grade math in one class all day. I also heard that out of the several hundred 8th graders last year at LMS, only a couple would be able to take math above standard when they got to LHS. That doesn't make a person very optimistic about the prospects of the principal from that middle school turning things around at LHS. But it can't be ruled out - however it will take help from all hands on deck and LOTS of $$ to improve the physical condition of the campus. Kids act worse in classrooms that are rundown and trashed-out looking.

  5. When i go to the TN homepage about every other visit the browser scrolls to the bottom of the page and a there sits an advertisement that looks like a a windows dialog box, but it is part of the page, not a pop-up. Both times the advertisement has been about something in Gallatin. The last was a jewelry store. I can't scroll back up and I have to reload the page to navigate away from the homepage.

  6. Well, here they go again StanTrott. I haven't browsed in a while but decided to take a peak when I heard. Surprised there's not more venom, but I'm sure it won't take long to come out again. I'm struggling to figure out how the Warren co. admin is going to attract anyone after previous searches and the inflexibility that has been shown towards name candidates demands. I also didn't read the james clark article but heard he said get some money together and get Rankin? Really?

Do you expect a coach (head or assistant) in the playoffs to make the time to apply

for a job in 10 days? Why not extend the period to after the TSSAA Championships?

What think 10 days during the playoffs?

The posting for football should be the same as it was for basketball. The job will be posted on TSSAA web site and school system's website for a minimum of 10 days. The principal, AD and HR Director will then look at the applications and narrow it down to the top 5 or 10 depending on how many apply. The best candidate will then be selected. This is how it was done for BB. Should be the same process.
  7. I've gone to the champ games every year but one in the last 10...stay at the hotel, go out to eat 2 times, at the stadium the rest of the time. Honestly, who goes to the state championship games in december with the thought that we are going to visit local attractions?

Central location of Cookeville, geographically=no, but its location on I-40 is centrally located to Knoxville, Chattanooga, & nashville. It is about an 1 hour further down the road than Murfreesboro if you are driving in from West TN.

Cookeville is a great town and a great spot the champ games

  8. Actually Siegel has a couple of ex Warrior Coaches. Coach Wyatt and Coach Davis who was the clone's freshman line coach.

As to whether or not Coach A can really make it out here in the 'COUNTRY', I say simply "BRING IT, THEN SING IT"!

Wins SPEAK much LOUDER than words on the T and unfortunatly we have not seen to many wins lately.

Also NOT 20 coaches have left as at its height with Rankin, not even R'dale had 20 coaches. Adding together the varsity staff and the freshman staff there were only about 16 of them.

I think he may be including coaches that came with Coach A and have since left as well.

  9. I have relatives in Cookeville and have stayed their on business trips. There is limited hotels compared to Murfreesboro and the only thing to do at night is to go to Walmart,

That;s not a joke it's a fact. Heck they go to Walmart after the Prom. LOL

At least Murfreesboro has Nashville down the road and a real Malls.

I think you had more folks coming out to the games who just wanted to see good football when it use to be in Nashville area.

Please everyone ignore this ignorant post from Rigger101. There are plenty of hotels, there are plenty of restaurants that will cater for all ages. Plenty of night spots. I have the opportunity to stay in cookeville 2 nights every year for the Tech football alumni golf tournament. There is no shortage of entertainment or good food. Try Mama Rosas Italian eatery (turn at Kmart and go north, it will be on the right), 2 or 3 places to socialize into the night in downtown. Try Craw Daddies (good seafood and plenty of beer choices).

Most of all, go with an open mind and ask the locals you come across. Great people in cookeville who love football.

  10. Field is high quality, no problems there. My concern (being a Tech Golden Eagle) is the dressing facilities. You need 4. 2 for the teams playing and 2 for the teams about to play. Tech has a locker room under east and west stadiums, but not much else. West stadium has some large areas, one that I know has been used as a locker room by high school teams, but not sure what else they have in there. No luxury boxes. I'm sure the TSSAA staff and perhaps some high donors will have the president's box and the handful of other boxes. Can't imagine there is any room for a hospitality room either. I really feel that part of this move is to try to cut out support for the Tn football coaches association and push coaches back into TACA. I'd lay a good bet that they will push for only TACA cards to get coaches in for free, unless they have decided to cut it out all together. Parking will be much better at Tech than middle, except for Thursday and Friday. They will have to close off parking lots and battle Tech commuters for the rest of the spots. Plenty of Hotels and places to eat for everyone. Easier town to get around in.

    Go Tech!

As Wingman10 pointed out it was about the money!

I do not have a problem with the selection though as Tech has as safe a field for the players as MTSU does and that is my first concern.

Now for the players AND Coaches, plans had better be made now for the chance of playing in SNOW as the plateau gets it much more than the Boro does. Plan now for the problem and it will not be a problem when the time comes.

  11. I've coached O-Line for quite some time and can't think of any instance where one of my players or opposing has been injured by a legal clip in the free clip zone. Most O-Line Knee injuries occur as one falls on another who is immobile for one reason or another.

    1. I must admit, I never like the A11 football scheme. It was a gimmek at best and a pain in the behind to prepare for simply because your defensive staff had to waste so much time working on it. Very unconventional and not your traditional football system.

    2. I am happy to see the HORSE-COLLAR go and I hope they will someday remove the knee destroying FREE CLIP ZONE rule. It comes up every year but has not been amended in a long time.

    3. The rule I don't like is the adjustment for the coaches box. I had more than one argument this past season with sideline officials about the 3 men in the coaches box rule. Next year, we will all have to step back into the PLAYERS BOX before the start of the play. They had might as well get ready for throwing a lot of flags on this one because 99% of the coaches in the state did not adhere to the three coach in the box rule!

  12. Is this the Jones that was run out of Chatt Centratl because of some questionable handling of money? (Understand that it is been a while and that may have not been the story)

Titansbuck, Based on your work history from the springfield thread, it seems that you were at Springfield the same time Coach jones was their. Should he not be a candidate for the job. Also i think we had a coach at MCHS named Sam whose full name was Fred Samuel??? Come on what about Jones. He seemed to know his X and O's and was a good head coach in chattanooga???

  13. Actually only one 6A teams gets an auto bid: Lebanon, Mt Juliet and Wilson Central. And it isn't head to head or records against the other 6A teams its most victories. Lebanon could lose to Mt Juliet and Wilson Central, but still get the automatic bid if they have more victories at the end of the season.

The 5A teams get two automatic qualifiers, so wins are really a premium.

head to head is one of the tie breakers.

That is my understanding of the situation.

  14. Find a local middle school to volunteer with for a couple of years. You will learn the meaning of the word assume and you will learn the value of teaching fundamentals over and over. Learn to teach the fundamentals and you won't have to worry about experience in a lot of systems. You have to block and tackle no matter what you are doing. Strength programs= lineman need to be strong and powerful in the middle, Skill people need to be explosive. They both need to do power cleans. Find someone to teach you how to teach power cleans. It is not a "muscle lift" it is an athletic explosion lift.
