Just got confirmation from Summertown HS that the game time is 6:00 PM - they will be contacting Forrest today to insure they will be ready to play at 6:00 PM - we'd hate to start without them !!
-
I have it listed on our schedule at 6:30.....
Its listed on Summertown's schedule as 6:00 PM. I'll check with the school this morning to see if it is 6:00 or 6:30.

Appreciate all of the kudos for Summertown - but there is alot of basketball yet to be played.
Personally, last season, I thought was our best shot at a Gold Ball, but the late season injury to Tamia - with little time for some to learn new roles, caught up with us in the 'Boro. This year's team is a little deeper - and we have more Seniors (4) on the team than we have had in the past 6 years. Had only 2 Seniors last year and one each of the prior 2 years. We also have several younger players that just need time to get some experience. Hopefully we will come out on Saturday and play our kind of game against Forrest - we'll see.

I like your pick in A - but there is alot of basketball to be played. The Lady Eagles probably had their best shot last year, but injuries spoiled a date with destiny. That said, I still hope your prediction holds true, the girls and program deserve it for all of their hard work - but there is usually alot of luck required for a Gold Ball, as well.

Summertown struggled with 6'2" Savannah Hill, but they won't have to face anyone like her in Class A. The Lady Eagles controlled the tempo and played like one solid unit. Peterson was a work horse last night and when Summertown needed a basket, they got the ball in the hands of Franks who got the job done. Nice, solid win for the Lady Eagles to begin the season.
Hey ptguard12, were you at the game last night ? Still trying to figure out who you is ......

Everyone saw this coming since Forrest was put in their cupcake district & region.
They face no real competition until the Sub-State.
True, Forrest won the State Tourn. But as for Forrest coming together after Christmas and being some kind of dominating team, that is ridiculous. Remember, S'town beat Forrest by 15 in the last 3 weeks of the season - it could have been by 25 or more if the dogs had not been called off.
Sure, if if and buts were candy and nuts ..... it is also the truth.
Congrats Forrest on the Gold Ball, but also get back down to earth and realize that it also took alot of luck and the stars lining-up correctly for it to happen. As for a repeat - I seriously doubt it.
-
These girls are tough and another thing they are good at is playing together and they've pretty much been together since jr high. Hard to come back on them if they jump out big early but at the same time aren't nearly as good at comming back.
Also, I cann't remember but does anyone know who hosts districts this year?
I think the District is at Perry Co. this year - but may be Mt. Pleasant. Region is at Culleoka -

Mallory was a fantastic young lady and a tremendous athlete in both basketball and her first love, softball.
Mallory's boyfriend, Calvin Zemer, remains in critical condition in Vanderbilt Hospital.
Please keep Mallory's and Calvin's families and friends in your hearts and prayers during this horrible time.

Bad game by the Eagles - 5 errors - and never really got going.
Good luck to Mckenzie - you'll need it against Minor.

Don't know why Wayne Co. did not recognize all 4 of their selectees at their banquet - obvious it was an oversight on someone's part.
Wayne Co. did have 4 selectees - Emily Shull, Abby Creasy, Kalli Gower and Falisha Holt. All 4 were announced at the game and all 4 were on the list sent to the news media.
-
Do ya'll have a list of the girls that made the 12 A all district team? Another post requested a listing - I believe it was listed under 12 A tourney or something -
D-12A All District team (regular season - no All Tournament team) -
Summertown - Mallory Scott (MVP), Beth Long, Emily Franks, Julie Walker, Kendra Davis, Allie Franks
Collinwood - Jordan Martin, Charlee Hollis, Haley Thompson, Lacee Ray
Wayne Co. - Emily Shull, Abby Creasy, Kalli Gower, Falisha Holt
Mt. Pleasant - Laura Dugger, Samantha Stinnett
Zion - Christy Bowers
Clifton - Heather Ray
Perry Co. - Courtney Treadwell, Edie Marshall

Coach Wyrick's overall record now stands at 500-226. His District record is 218-43. All covering a 27 year career - since the TSSAA began recognizing High School fast-pitch Softball as an official sport in 1980.
-
That would put him in district 11 or 12. Obviously a favorite in that region by the way he is talking so I'll guess Summertown or Columbia Academy.
I can assure you he is not from Summertown - I can't speak for CA.
-
The coaches may claim they don't know who made it, but it is not a secret - I can assure you each coach knew, well ahead of time, who made it from their team.
-
First, there is no All-Tournament team. As was announced last night, there is only a Regular Season All-District Team.
The format for the team is that each team is given a certain number of "spots" based on how they finished the season - 1st gets 5, 2nd gets 4, etc. (I know, I know, I know - I don't agree with this format either).
The spots are then filled based on selection by the coaches. To be honest, normally the way it is done is that each coaching staff selects the ones they think should fill their number of spots from their team - so the Wayne Co. coaches selected their players.

Here is the Senior A-AA team -

I think this is going to be a very good game to watch. Both teams are very quick and are deadly on the inside and out. It will be close but I think Summertown will be able to pull it out. However S'town is hurt a bit with the loss of Tamia Tucker how is she doing by the way was it officially her ACL? does anyone know? I think that they will still be able to come out with a win though even with Tucker out. Good luck Lady Eagles!
Yes it was definitely a torn ACL - plus cartilidge damage. Surgery has been scheduled for later this month.
-
who were the leading scorers for both teams?
For Greenfield -
Alyse Page 17 pts
Becky Atnip 16 pts
For Summertown -
Emily Franks 20 pts
Jennifer Peterson 14 pts
Beth Long 11 pts
-
Congratulations to Summertown, they are a very good team. Both teams played well and I'm very proud of our Lady Jackets. I think we made 10 three pointers but Summertown's (19/26) freethrows killed us and we had trouble guarding Emily Franks, she is a very good basketball player. You girls gave it all you had and set the standards high for future Greenfield teams.
Thanks Greenfieldfan - your team was very good, as well - made that post-season run just when you needed to. In today's game, your girls just kept bombing in those 3-pointers. Good job and great post-season run.
-
S'town -
Emily Franks 20 pts 10 rebs 2 blocked shots
Jennifer Peterson 12 pts 3 rebs 2 assists (6 of 6 FTs)
Beth Long 11 pts (incl 3 for 4 treys) 5 rebs 1 assist 1 steal
Haley Lovett 6 pts (6 of 10 FTs)
Kayla Clark 5 pts (3 of 4 FTs)
Mallory Scott 4 pts
Allison Durham 3 pts (1 of 2 treys)
Alyse Page 17 pts (5 of 9 treys)
Becky Atnip 16 pts (2 of 7 treys)
Keely Williams 8 pts (2 of 4 treys)
Rhiannon Caudle 5 pts (1 of 4 treys)
Annastashia Allen 4 pts (0 of 2 treys)
Nicole Jones 2 pts
Magan Cash 2 pts
Greenfield tied a TSSAA state tournament record by hitting 10 treys in the game - which is what kept them in the game. Greenfield shot 40.4 % (21 of 52) from the field and 38.5 % (10 of 26) from 3 point range, and was 50% (2 of 4) from the free throw line.
Summertown shot 51.4 % (19 of 37) from the field - only missing 2 shots (11 for 13) in the second half. The Lady Eagles shot 50 % (4 for 8) from 3-point range
for the game - including 3 for 3 in the second half. The Lady Eagles shot 73.1% (19 of 26) from the free throw line - 8 of 8 in the first half.
Congrats to the Lady Eagles !!!! You have gone further than any girls team in school history - and posted your 32nd W of the season !!!

Scott and Long will not be as easily replaced as you may think. They have done something no other Lady Eagle has ever done; that is playing in the State tournement 3 years in a row. They may not be as athletic as some, but their level heads,(not getting rattled and comitting tournovers) along with their experience will be hard to replace.
I agree ballfanwm - Scott and Long may not put up alot of points, but their experience, toughness and hustle will be missed. Counting this year's seniors, the Lady Eagles have graduated only 4 starters (Corbin, Lovett, Long & Scott) over the past 3 seasons. We've always had a "young" team, but also an experienced team. Scott, Long & Franks were all starters for the 2004, 2005 and now 2006 State tourney teams -
However, next season, the Lady Eagles will have more experienced Senior starters than they have had since 2002 - with Franks, Peterson, and Tucker starting, along with Jr. Haley Lovett - the 5th spot will be up for grabs between Durham, Clark, Newton and Smith.

Didn't Summertowns best player get hurt and out for the tourn?
Starting point guard tore her ACL in Region Semis. A key member of the team, but we still have others - it will be tougher without her, but not impossible.
