Unfortunately, I lost all respect for the Mr/Miss Basketball awards 15 years ago. It was then that it became a campaign/popularity contest and not about the best player. Some coaches & schools actually print campaign flyer type materials abd send out to voters. Ridiculous. One school had 2 girls win in back to back seasons and never made it out of the Region those 2 years. They were the same age - one got it as a Junior and the other as a Senior. How do you have 2 Miss Basketball winners on the team for 2 years and can’t even get to SubState. That did it for me.

Officials for SubState/Sectionals won’t be from the local association, so no issue. Huntingdon will win by 20+. No contest.

Is this the official TSSAA list ? Summertown is missing - added varsity FB in 2015 & playing in A now, but should fall out in AA in the realignment next year.

Let me weigh-in on the media coverage issue. Local newspapers usually are begging for material, but they do not have the staff to send out to every game. If you, or someone with the school, will write-up articles after the games, and include information about the next game(s), then the local paper WILL print it and you will get a bigger following. I, too, live in a small town and noticed the lack of local coverage, so about 15 yrs ago I started writing articles after games, sending them to the local newspapers and radio stations, posting it on a FaceBook page and even Emailing it out to a list of over 100 people (including CoachT at times) - and guess what - we got the coverage !! I encourage others to do the same - no its not a paying gig - but the fact that the kids get some press and recognition for their hours of hard work - and the appreciation you get from other parents and fans is rewarding enough.

Wyrick ends Career as Lady Eagles Mentor article by Scott Franks SUMMERTOWN - Following the Summertown Lady Eagles' doubleheader victories over the visiting Lady Bulldogs of Columbia Academy Monday night (March 26, 2012), Summertown Coach Bobby Wyrick announced to his team that he is stepping down as softball coach at SHS, effective immediately. In making the announcement to the team, Wyrick shared that his health will simply not allow him to endure the stress thru the remainder of this season. Wyrick, in his 33rd year as coach of the Lady Eagles, is the only Softball Coach in the history of Summertown High School. Coach Wyrick and his longtime assistant Curtis Peters started the SHS Softball program in the Spring of 1980. The TSSAA had just added the sport of Softball the prior year (Spring of 1979). Peters retired a few seasons ago. Wyrick has recorded 679 wins in his 32 ½ seasons at the helm of the Lady Eagles. This number of wins easily puts him in the top 5 in career wins in High School softball in the State of Tennessee. During this time, his teams amassed 25 Regular Season District titles, 5 Region crowns, 14 Sub-State appearances and 2 State Final 4s. During the 1980s, Wyrick was not only the coach of the Lady Eagles (then Eaglettes) on the softball diamond, but also served as Head Coach of the Basketball team. Congratulations Coach Wyrick on a superb career ! And thank you for your years of dedication to Summertown High School and to the young ladies of SHS !! You will definitely be missed, but we want to see you cheering from the sidelines for many years to come ! The School is making arrangements for a successor for the remainder of the 2012 season. Barry Long, who has served as Wyrick's assistant for the past several seasons, will remain with the program.

MP leads Stown 34-22 @ half. Game is way to fast for this officiating crew. No way Dick Pack should ever be assigned to a boys game - he should have been forced to retire from officiating 20 yrs ago.

Years ago, when I was a naive fan, I thought that the refs invited to the State Tournament were the "Best of the Best". However, after watching both girls and boys State Tournament games over the past 25 years, I have come to the conclusion that the refs on Wednesday thru Friday are only those who are either retired or able to take off work during the week. Then, on Saturday, they pick the worst from the prior 3 days and ask them back for the Championship games. With the T$$AA jumping the admission to $10/$12 per person, you would think that they could afford competent officials. Once again, they are making a joke of the entire system.

I was told that she was treated for a concussion and released from the hospital last night. Vision was blurry in the eye, but examination supposedly indicated no long term injury.

The draw for the brackets will be held on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles will play on Wednesday, March 16th - the time and opponent will not be known until Sunday. The Semis are on Friday the 18th and Championships are on Saturday the 19th.

Yes - based on what I have been told, the TSSAA changed their rule again - they no longer require a 1000 seat gym - I was told it was lowered to 750 (or so) for Class A. S'town can seat about 975.

Please, lets try not to get too dramatic ...afterall for each defendant you have on here, I have 5 Emails or texts from others thanking me for addressing your posts. By the way - you (and the rest of the world) now know my identity, but you have still yet to identify yourself. As I said in my initial post, I quit visiting this site due to the lack of common sense displayed by many of the post writers - so now you can go ahead and respond to this with a blast my way, as I will not be back on here to read it.

First of all, Sports journalism awards are sorta like "ordained minister" certifications that you order off the internet - they mean nothing. While you may post, as you say "info as it is given to me" - the fact is that you consistently, and repeatedly, post incorrect information - you make incorrect statements about current and former players - and you do nothing but harm to the team you claim to so avidly support. You obviously have no background, or personal experience, that would qualify you to make the statements or analysis that you try to make - as anyone with any common sense about coaching or the sport of basketball would not make the statements you make. Your statements about the history of the program and the District are laughable. I particularly like the statement you made recently about how the Maury County Class A teams having never been in District 12-A - that is blatantly incorrect and another example of how you do not know what you are talking about. At times, you also like to call out coaches and players by name, yet, as I stated before, you continue to hide behind a screen name and do not put your own name out there. Just in case you do not know how to check a profile, my name is Scott Franks. SHS Class of 1985, I am a former player, my wife is a former SHS player (SHS Class of 1987) and my 3 children are former and current SHS players(Classes of 2003, 2007 and 2011).

I have no problem with Vandy, or any other fan, posting - but keep the subject and tone to that of a Fan - and don't try to act like you have more knowledge of the game/team, etc. than just a fan. Also, if anyone wants to post on this site, then put your real name in your profile - do not hide behind a screen name. If you want to know who I am - go to my profile and you will see my name. This keeps posters from hiding behind their keyboard ....and eliminates the idiotic posts.

After many years of posting and reading CoachT (from the beginning days of this website) I have avoided these message boards for the last several years due to the lack of mentality displayed by some of the posters. For those of you who read and/or post to these boards regularly, please ignore the posts by VandyChris - although he claims to have all knowledge of Summertown, it is obvious that he has no clue. I can assure you that he has no insight or knowledge about anything about which he posts. Those of us who are long-time Eagle fans (and former players), parents of players and knowlegeable about not only the current teams, but the history of the teams and District/Region would never post anything like those that VandyChris seems to do on a regular basis. I do not know who VandyChris is, but I can tell you that, based on the incorrect information he (I assume it is a he) regulary posts, it is obvious that he is, at best, a novice. So again, please take those posts, and the information shared, with a grain of salt.

To be honest, all of District 12-A is not very good. If Wayne Co. is the #1 team in the state, then the State of TN girls basketball is in the tank. Perry County is also not very good. Neither of them are anywhere near the same caliber of teams that those schools had just 5 short years ago.

I agree that Moore is a class act group, but Wayne has a pretty good coach of their own - he adjust well in the game and gets the most out of his players. Even the Wayne Co fans will tell you that this year's Wayne Co is not the Wayne Co of old - but, that being said, I don't see them having much trouble with Moore Co. I have seen Wayne Co. 4 times this year & Moore Co twice - Moore does not have the defense to stop Wayne's scorers.

Wayne County comes from behind and won 56-55 - wow !! 2 come from behind victories tonight. Summertown and Wayne County in the Finals and to the Sub-State
