  1. It's good to see and hear girls sports being covered on the radio, internet, and cable tv either live or delayed. Newspapers have done a fair job over the years, but their space is limited and you usally only get 1 or 2 photos. I commend Coffee County's WMSR, Mike McGee's Tullahomasports.com, Marshall County's WAXO, and others that cover girls' sports in depth. Keep up the good work! thumb
  2. 8 AAA is always interesting! It ain't over untill the _ _ _ lady sings. (Had to be politically correct.)
  3. Amy looked as fresh in the 9th inning as she did in the 1st.
  4. Sorry to step on your thread. I was writing mine as you were posting yours.
  5. The Columbia Lady Lions and Lincoln County Lady Falcons played one of the best defensive games that I have seen. The game went into the 9th inning before LC got the winning run. Columbia had a runner on third in the bottom of the 9th but could not score along with stranding 2 other runners on 3rd in previous innings. Columbia's Amy Shannon's 6 strike outs and LC's Chelsea Owens' 8 was only part of the action. Shortstop Brittany Dawson made several great scoops and throws along with a line drive catch by 2nd baseman Candice Howell and a heads up play to 2nd from Shannon for the Lady Lions. The Lady Falcons also had several great plays, (sorry I don't know their names). Both teams had some deep field doubles, Columbia's Susan Davis with 2, Rebecca Cathey with 1, and LC's Brittany Loperman with 1, keeping the outfield on their toes along with several other fly balls. Great day, great ball game, the only thing better would be Columbia taking the win. Sorry, I forgot to post the score: LC-1 / Columbia 0
  6. Why have several pitchers on a team if you don't rotate and use them? Some teams may not have more than 1 or 2, but some have several good pitchers that are usually riding the pine.
  7. I'm not taking either side because as a coach I have won & lost games by a bad/missed call. The close ones could be a coin toss as to the correct call. But, sometimes there are obvious calls that either shows bias to one team or lack of knowledge of the game. The last two should be reported to TSSAA, the UIC, or who ever is over the umps. I beleive most umps try to do their best, be as fair as possible, and enjoy being in the game. Then you have a few that are in it just for the extra money and wants the game to end as quickly as it can so they can leave. This goes for all sports. I refereed soccer for ten years and figured out the purpose of the officials. They are the sacrificial goat for everyone to hate so the fans don't kill each other.
  8. Looks like Franklin Co. is making everyone work for their wins and they have some high scoring wins themselves. I have noticed this team has steadily improved over the last 4 years. Keep up the good work. thumb (Except when you play Columbia).
  9. Yes, Spencer is a very good pitcher along with the rest of the bullpen. We are lucky to have 5 talented pitchers. Becky is doing good and possibly may be able to play at the end of the month. Maybe she will be able to play at least an inning or two on senior night. If not, she can still dress out and get on the field to receive her senior award. thumb
  10. Hey Mike, was CC supposed to play @ FC after the Columbia game? What time did the Columbia game get started with y'all? We wanted to come watch that game, but Becky is still catching up on her missed school work. We'll look you up if you make it to the make-up game in Columbia.
  11. Any coach, no mater what sport, should give all of his/her "benchers" as much playing time as possible. Not only in JV games, but also in lopsided varsity games. If your way ahead or way behind, why not let someone else play? More playing time=better players & happier parents!
  12. Re-Buh-Kah2405 - From Palmer Park go to either Hwy 72 or I 565 and go toward downtown Huntsville. Get off on Jordan Lane. Turn right. Keep going straight and the Sportsplex Park will be on the right. You will see the Space Center on the right before you get there. Good luck to you and your team.
  13. Good post. Nobody likes a sore looser and a taunting winner is even worse!
  14. Looks like you could go surfing on Lincoln County's wave.
  15. It's too bad we can't get some city/county leaders to attend some of these big tourneys and let them see what happens when you have quality fields and facilities. When I was on the Columbia Girls Fastpitch board we tried to get some new fields, but all we got was a new bathroom. There is a multi-sport complex rumor going around but as far as I know that's still all it is. They can't see the multi-thousands of dollars that are spent by players and families each year. Most of your major complexes have a tourney each weekend from April to November. Tell me that's not making money at the restaurants and motels!
  16. s3softball - Take I65 to Athens exit Hwy 72. Turn left. Keep going straight untill you see a Chick-fil-a. Turn right at the Palmer Park sign. Go straight untill you see another sign and turn right. Park is down the road on the left. There is another road you can turn on as you first get into Madison but I can't remember it's name. It's either County Line Road or the road just passed it. Then you turn left at a convenience store and the park is on the right. Since Becky can't play, we'll be working the car wash for "Project Graduation" Saturday. GOOD LUCK & GO LADY LIONS!!
  17. We'll see y'all at the home games. Too bad Becky won't get to play on the new field.
  18. Hey Mike. Doesn't look like Becky will get to play in her senior year. The Dr. said she still has an enlarged spleen and couldn't play for another 4 weeks because she could rupture it.
  19. Columbia came back in the top of the 7th and scored 2 runs.
  20. You can go to the schedules link at the top of the page and check out each schools schedule. As of 3/30/05 Columbia Central is 13-6 overall and 2-2 district.
  21. She goes back to the Dr. tomorrow. Hopefully they will give her the green light and she can get back into the swing of things. Thanks for asking.
  22. Thanks. You have to take advantage of days like today!
  23. Origional schedule has JV playing @ 5 and Varsity playing @ 7. My daughter has been sick and hasn't played or practiced in a while so I don't know if anything has changed. What about it s3softball? Is everything still on schedule?
