Fayetteville had 4 kids ejected and suspended for stepping 2 yards on the field (the coaches pulled them back) during a skermish at Cornersville.  If all schools are treated equally this could be bad for both teams.

They could suspend the guys that left the bench if in fact they are reviewing the video. It’s speculation that they are doing so. I think one of the schools has to request a video review in order for it to happen. If they choose to do so, so be it. Allow the kids who weren’t involved or weren’t in attendance to play this week. Then, learn from the whole situation and move on.

I won't really argue that but dont sleep on 3 teams from the west.

Agree. Could make it a good game in Cookeville. I’ll still take West overall. I’ve watched two of their games and they are just fundamentally sound, athletic and solid on defense! They run the football extremely well! Few, if any, weaknesses. Gonna take a great effort to beat them in my opinion.

  3. On a serious note, I'll take West! Who knows what's going to happen in the western half of the bracket? But I'll take West all day long on the eastern side. They've proven to be the best team all year long on that side. Barring any crazy injuries, the West Rebels are my prediction as the 5A State Champion.

There are no excuses that is true. The kid that was on top of the FC lineman had his face mask and was banging his head up and down on the field, this was happening on the FC side of the field so unless you were on the sidelines you could not see that. That is why the kid who was pancaked got upset and pulled his helmet off, then all heck broke loose. No excuse for it but that little piece of info has been left out of the conversation. I am sure that was not noticed from the pressbox or the home stands but that is what started the whole melee with plenty of blame on both sides

    All fair statements.

My bad about saying blindside block. Should have said hit. But you are placing blame nonetheless. You are posting what you saw as the truth with your biased perception. So nothing happened before the blindside hit to make the cheap hit happen? I hardly doubt that. I haven't seen the footage but surely the kid did not snap for no reason at all.

Got pancaked on the block based on the video. Then grabs the guy’s helmet and rips it off. That’s what happened no matter what his reason for doing so. I can’t get into his head and none of us can about why he chose to do that. Then, nobody can justify what his teammate then did...wiping out the guy after the play was blown dead. Again, that’s what happened. Whether he thinks he is justified or not, that never makes it right to do something that blatant. Obviously, mouthing had been going on for a while that got out of hand. I think people should keep in mind two things too: Shelbyville had just had two consecutive pick 6’s and a fumble recovery on three straight FC possessions. Things had spiraled in a hurry. In addition, Shelbyville had a bunch of young, second teamers in due to the score and having 16 guys at home quarantining, so they had very little experience in handling heated confrontations...just a side note, but certainly zero excuses.

In the basketball fights over the past several years involving TSSAA schools  teams were put on probation for 2 years and banned from postseason. Is that possible here?

I wouldn’t think so. Not everyone left the bench area and many kids were not involved. Most coaches were doing their best to break it up and calm things down. Rumors have definitely gotten out of control at this point.

  7. 3 hours ago, workinprogress said:

Sportsguy you even laid blame on a kid when you said it all started with a blindside block. Now maybe it did but why say it's a societal issue when it comes to blaming others when you even put the blame on someone.

Sad incident. Hopefully all involved when learn from their mistakes and move on.

Blame? That’s what happened! It wasn’t a blind side block by the way...not even close! It was a blind shot cheap shot after the whistle and after a flag was thrown. Things had completely stopped. Kid clobbers him after all that on a huge knock down blow, which started everything. Do I blame that for starting everything? You bet! It’s not blame to say he hit him way after the play was over. It’s simply the truth.

  8. Can we all just take a step back? There are a lot of accusations and innuendo towards the kids, coaches, players, both programs, and both schools. It’s a bad, unfortunate incident. Emotions got out of control! In sports, unfortunately it happens. Browns and Steelers last year? Kansas State and Kansas in basketball last year? Just two of many examples we’ve had recently. It stinks. But it’s not this general sentiment by going overboard with the blame game. I realize this is typical of society today. Blame everyone and overreact to everything. These coaches, players and refs will all learn from it I’m sure. That’s what happens in life...a few always spoil it for everyone else and then the blame game ramps up with wide-ranging general accusations. Let’s just all take a deep breath. Fair enough?

The benches did NOT completely clear. The game had been getting ugly for a while and the REFS AND COACHES could have prevented this period! I'm sure someone will argue this but the adults lost control.

Yes. All true. One side note: this exact same officiating crew has had at least four fights happen in the last three years. They are always at the center of these things. All laid back guys so I’m not going to be overly critical...but things tend to get out of hand when they do not take control early and often. They threaten to throw flags on players more than they actually do, which gradually can get out of control as the game goes on.

  10. 10 minutes ago, BooWhoWiseMan said:

Agree.  Reading this made it sound like benches completely cleared.

I just thought they were looking at it based off that NC5 post that I read

Must have missed that. They very well could be reviewing it. Who knows? My only point is penalizing kids who were quarantining at home would be an overreach, again even if they had to play Columbia shorthanded.

  11. 7 minutes ago, BooWhoWiseMan said:

I am not arguing any of what you just said. That is not my argument at all.  But instead of dragging it on we will just have to agree to disagree.  I hope the person who was injured is ok and I also hope IF the TSSAA does do more the. They do it quickly for all involved.

I would not be surprised that if the tape is as bad as what has been said then both teams may be forfeiting this week.  Typically when kids come off the sideline or bench they are thrown out of next game from my understanding.

Could happen. Not sure if they are reviewing the film or not. It’s speculation. Not everyone left the bench, so forfeiting would be an overreach. Also, 16 Shelbyville players were at home quarantining. Combined with the kids who did nothing wrong which was several, they wouldn’t deserve to not be able to play, even if it were a bit shorthanded. Same for FC. Penalize the guilty and allow the others to play shorthanded.

  12. 11 minutes ago, BooWhoWiseMan said:

I have no clue what happened but you just proved my point. You say "out of no where " and the FC poster said the Shelbyville lineman had a FC county player pinned to the ground and a team mate came to help.  To different opinions based off the exact same play because both have a bias.  Not a shot, and nothing wrong with it.  As long as humans have opinions there is bias in those opinions.  Every news story, every news article and every book ever written.

He got pinned to the ground on a pancake block. Then, he rips the helmet off and got flagged for it. That’s what happened and what was called. After play was halted from this and it was over, the blindside hit happened. Again, that’s what happened. It’s really not about bias. It’s about how it’s explained. The FC person said the guy was defending his player by blindsiding the kid. Ok, you can say that if you want but he never argued that the whole melee wasn’t started as a result of that “blindside hit”/“defending his teammate” situation. Even the Franklin County radio crew admitted that and explained it that way. It was a horrible chain of events to be sure. Some guilty guys on both sides and they’ll pay the deserved consequence.

  13. 11 minutes ago, BooWhoWiseMan said:

Via some does not mean that he doesn't know football.  Bias means you show favoritism towards something.  You always see the positive in something.  It does not have to be meanness or ugly towards the other programs which he does not do.  And I am not talking about he love of Puckett.  He supported Coach Palmer just as much. I am biased towards Spring Hill.  For example if their was a brawl on the field I would be the first to say it was wrong but then I would look very hard to justify why the SH player responded the way he did.  Much like what you did with Fridays incident.

I think the refs got it right! They ejected the players from both sides that deserved it. Everyone saw how it started. A flag was properly thrown for the helmet being ripped off and things stopped. Then, out of nowhere, a Franklin County player blindsided the kid. That began the melee! After that, it got crazy.

I think you do a good job in being fair to the teams you cover.  I also don't recall you ever saying anything negative about anyone that you cover which I respect.  ao I am not saying you are unfair to anyone or have done anything wrong.  I do believe you have have a boas and favoritism towards Shelbyville.  In fact I believe you mentioning on you show that you live in the area.  Anybody that does what you do on live streaming would want their hometown team being successful for that purpose.

Just because he’s local and respects the kids and coaches doesn’t mean he’s biased. He does a very fair job talking about Shelbyville. He’s already said he believes nobody will beat Summit with Keaton Wade returning. If he was biased he would not say that in relation to Shelbyville. He also correctly projected that Shelbyville would struggle early for a few logical reasons before they got rolling. He was spot on. Again, no evidence of bias. Just because he thought the Puckett hire was fantastic was not a biased comment. He loved Puckett and had him on his show numerous times when he was at Lake County. Wherever Puckett would have ended up, Mike would have correctly said it would have been a great hire! Good coaches are good coaches regardless.

With the one game suspensions Shelbyville is facing, I doubt they would want to play Summit either.

They had 16 players out due to contact tracing nonsense, including numerous starters...starting QB and starting running back included. They were all not even in attendance obviously. Secondly, they had three ejected and will miss Friday as they deserve. Lastly, they would not turn down a chance to play for a region championship and would still field a very talented team.

TSSAA gives very few explanations for anything they do, so I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting.

Agree. It’s just me thinking outside of the box obviously. In a perfect world, Shelbyville plays Summit, Gallatin plays Hillsboro this week. Glencliff could play Lincoln County, who is dealing with contact tracing issues. Hunters Lane could play Columbia. Problem solved...there you have it. Obviously won’t happen.

  17. 30 minutes ago, workinprogress said:

No I have not talked to any Hillsboro coaches lately. Nice assumption there. However, knowing the coaches I assure you they are more focused on winning the next game than what you think is fair.

I can also assure you that Shelbyville should be focused on the same thing and correcting their own issues. At this point play the games and be glad you are getting to play. Forget fairness and just play.

Looking out for Hillsboro. That’s it. I realize most people probably aren’t though. If nothing could be done I would say no more. However, it still can. Shelbyville could play Summit as well. Both have meaningless games this Friday.

I don't believe I've ever heard one person spend so much time advocating for something that will not not ever was going to happen, especially not being a fan of either school.  The TSSAA worked hard and came up with a set of rules that they thought was best for the circumstances, circumstances that by the way they and this entire country have never faced before.  Gallatin's coaches worked very hard to find replacement games just so they could play 10 games.  Region opponent Hunters Lane could've played on Oct 2 but said they didn't want to, so we played a top notch Henry County and lost.  Everything is out of way out of whack this year, it just is what it is.  Most are just thankful that this many games have actually been played.

If I was a Gallatin fan, I’d probably say the exact same thing. Understood.

  19. 7 hours ago, workinprogress said:

If I am not mistaken Hillsboro has had all away games anyway. Pretty sure they have been on the road each week. So what does Hillsboro gain by playing Gallatin. If it were for the region sure but it is not.

And why are you so worried about being fair to Hillsboro. I haven't seen or heard anyone from that side complaining about something not being fair.

What does Hillsboro gain by playing Gallatin??!! Are you kidding? It’s a massive difference. A chance to play Page “at home” (likely at Hillwood or Overton but in Nashville) or settling for a semi-long bus ride to play a solid team in Shelbyville. Some years it’s not a big difference. This year, it is huge!! Have you talked to any of the coaches at Hillsboro? Neither have I. Where would we hear them complaining at anyway? It just makes total sense that they would absolutely want the game to happen for all the reasons mentioned.

  20. 8 hours ago, BooWhoWiseMan said:

Using your line of thinking why doesn't Summit and Shelbyville cancel their meaningless games this week and play so there is a true Region champ.  That way we all have a true 1 seed.

Yes. They should. Would Summit go for it? Doubt it. They’d fight against it I’m sure. Why have a chance to give up the top seed? But absolutely they should play. I’m sure Shelbyville would be happy to get to play it. They were crushed last week by all the contact tracing junk that shut them down, and it will unfortunately have a lasting emotional impact on those guys who got that opportunity to win a championship ripped away by clueless protocols enforced by clueless “experts”.

  21. Just now, BooWhoWiseMan said:

At this point I think it more about you not wanting to play Hillsboro..lol.

You can believe that all you want. Not true. It’s about fairness for Hillsboro. I actually think it’s more about Gallatin not wanting to play it. Guarantee you Hillsboro wants to play it and deserves to get that opportunity to possibly play a home playoff game instead of having to trouble. Does anybody out there believe Gallatin is a better football team than Hillsboro? Does any honest Gallatin fan think they’ve truly earned second place and a home game? Those questions don’t really matter if they just play the game fair and square. We’ll all find out once and for all.

  22. So, now that we sit where we are at and just to finish up this conversation and highlight the main point: In Region 6-5A, Beech has clinched the top seed, barring a more than improbable upset loss to Hillwood. Thus, Hillwood will clinch the 4 seed. Fair enough obviously. Common sense result. The issue is the 2 and 3 seed and it could be corrected even now since we know where we stand. We know that Gallatin will get second with a win over Glencliff but without games against Hillsboro or Hillwood. In my opinion, Hillsboro would easily defeat Gallatin and it probably wouldn’t be close due to all of Gallatin’s issues. I could be wrong obviously, which is why they absolutely should play this game next Friday. It only makes common sense to do so. Why waste the week with meaningless games? The winner is second and the loser is 3rd. Play the game wherever it was originally scheduled to be played at. It’s only fair. Glencliff and Hunters Lane can play each other again or find other opponents. They are already eliminated from playoff contention. But, again, it’s about fairness in Hillsboro’s case. Also, it is not like this can’t be accomplished. We know it can be done after all the craziness we’ve been through. It’s simple. Obviously, Gallatin would probably fight against it because they get a massive benefit by not playing. To be honest, though, there is no good excuse to not play the game. It’s the right thing to do, especially when Hillsboro was not allowed to play for five weeks...not their fault whatsoever. I say play the game...and they still can choose to do so.
