  1. I agree that the town does not shut down. Maryville is just getting to big for that to happen anymore. There are too many other things for people to do. But with all that being said, we still have tremendous community support. At all the games it's almost like a class reunion. People that you don't see that often, you always see at MHS on Friday nights. The thing that appeals to me the most as being a Rebel alumnus, is the campus is located on the same spot as it has been for years. Maryville has gone extensive renovations over the years, but a concerted effort was taken to make sure the school retained it's old school architecturial feel. Maryville has a beautiful campus located in a historical district. Plus the football field is in the same place it's been since 1926. It just don't get any better on Friday night, than on west Broadway in Maryville. Go Rebs.

  2. Powell has been talking about Maryville all year long. In the pre-season preview in the News-Sentinel, Milligan said Maryville was always on his mind. They're coming over here looking for the big upset. I think it is important that Maryville keeps expanding their offense and keeps hustlin' on defense. As impressive as we were against Mo-Town West, we must realize that you only get better or worse, you never stay the same. Keeping a team from peaking too early, becoming complacent, or digressing is always something that coaches work hard to guard against. However, I have complete confidence in our staff to handle our team in the appropriate manner. Their track record speaks for itself. Now let's get after Milligan and the rest of those Panthers on Friday. Go Rebs.

  3. Good points Rebelron. I think if we're healthy that Powell will not score 17 imo. Powell has played a fairly good schedule, but no one as good as Maryville's last 2 opponents (Mo-Town West and W.B.). I think that Thompson is getting better and that makes MHS very dangerous. He looked very good Friday, with the exception of one pass, and he didn't have Merrit. Milligan is a good player, but I agree that Powell must have balance, because if they don't they'll be in for a long game. Go Rebs.

  4. W.B. had a good game plan and it was magnified by a couple of our players not playing in the game Friday Night. Lucas not playing left a lot on Hannan's shoulders, plus it was his first start. They made Hannan be the man to make the play on Wojo when they went to 5 wides. But I'm not taking anything away from Blount. They play hard. Maryville made some nice adjustments at halftime and pretty much dominated after halftime. We tried to out-smart ourselves on the goal line by throwing a bootleg pass and got it picked. But anyway as was evident in the stats, MHS still dominated. Maryville had 420+ yds. to 170+ for W.B. Go Rebs.

  5. Good point about Carl, Rebelron. He is at his best when he stays on his feet, lowers his shoulders, and just plows over people. I don't think Carl was 100% imo, he seemed a little tentative in hitting the holes a couple of times. But he's still pretty darn tough when he's not 100%. I heard Quarles on the radio say that Fondell may have an ACL tear, which is tough. Fondell has been playing one-handed since the preseason anyway. He also said Eubanks may have cracked his wrist, but usually they'll just put a cast on them and let them go anyway. Good points about Galyon. He and Hodge played very well last night. They ran Wojo around a lot the second half and hustled from the backside in bringin' the heat. Plus Cole "THE WALL" McKinney stepped up bigtime in the 2nd half. Now let's get healthy, get Lucas and Merrit back, get back to business, stop Milligan, and beat 'dem Panthers. Go Rebs.

  6. I was looking for a tough game and W.B. was pretty game for awhile. Having to sit Lucas Tipton this game, as well as Merrit definately hurt. However, it was good to see others step up. Jacob Holt put on a clinic with the fade patterns. Cade played well and threw every pass well except for the one at the 1 yd. line that was picked, a call that I did not particularly care for. W.B. schemed us pretty well early in the game by picking on our fill-in MLB with 5 wides and running the QB draws. A couple of nice adjustments at halftime stopped that. Overall a nice win over a well-coached team, with a nice D. Another Blount County championship is in the books and it's time to move on to the region and those huge Powell Panthers next week. Go Rebs.

  7. I'm away a couple of days and 64TnChamp has all the answers. And if you don't believe him, you don't even have to ask him, he'll tell you anyway. I've seen Hoover Ala. and Chad Jackson and they have a very good team, as well as ranked very high. So now I guess I'm an expert. It's subjective. Like I have a rearend and 64 does, as well as everyone else. I didn't think a team that could not beat Kentucky would beat FSU on Thursday nite either. Trojan4life let me get this right, MHS won't be as lucky next time? After getting 502 yds. on you and pulling the dogs in the 3rd quarter, I would call it a little more than luck wouldn't you? Go Rebs.

  8. You have the right to disagree if you want to, but Maryville offensive line Coach David Ellis has been to the Clinic/Blue Cross Bowl 4 out of the last 5 years and has 3 GOLD rings to show for it. Go Rebs.

  9. Hey guys let's give credit where it's due. Maryville's offensive line of Brandon Waters, Drew Eubanks, Chris Large, John Raulston, and Isaac Cline are just mauling people. They aren't the biggest OL out there, but big enough (between 220-255), they all are in shape and pumped, and they have the best OL coach in Tennessee. It all starts up front for the highest scoring team in Tennessee (47.2 pts. per game) and these guys are just flat getting it done, playing only the first half in most games. Go Rebs.

  10. #5--Good speed and hands, big play threat.

#1--Good player, saved several long td runs Friday nite as he was the last man who could make the tackle.

#98--Got blocked all nite, sphered a Maryville back who was laying on the ground and should have gotten a 15 yarder for it.

#14--Strong arm, good player, had lots of people in his face this past Friday.

#36 Runs hard, big and strong, should have carried the ball more Friday nite, since Davis and Rucker were shut down.

    Go Rebs.

  11. Two guys other than Fuller that look ready are Coach White's sons. They always come to the games dressed out, looking for a little playing time. DudeLove4 talks about dumb posts, when some Mo-Town West fans said last week that somebody's momma was going to quarterback Morristown West last Friday against Maryville. Now isn't that special!!!! Go Rebs.

  12. Coacht I think the biggest difference is the skill level. Thirty years ago, throwing the ball was something most teams did when they didn't have a running game. Now good teams can throw the ball and have balance that is necessary to win at the highest level. The previous statements about size and speed are true as well as more 2-platooning and individualized situational players. Another thing is the time spend in the off-season conditioning and lifting programs that has increased sharply in the last few years. Go Rebs.

  13. It's time to move on to W.B. Blount probably has the best defense we have seen. The held Central to 14, Soddy Daisy to 13, and Ooltewah to 10. Josh Lawhon is very good at MLB. They have a pretty nice passing game as well. Plus coming off a big win at Morristown West, will we be ready? Can we keep that focus? Great teams do. It would make Blount's season to knock us off and they are capable, just ask D-B in the playoffs last year. So get ready Rebs, put M-W behind you and let's achieve one of our goals, the Blount County Championship. ONE GAME AT A TIME. ALL THE WAY TO THE 'BORO. Go Rebs.

  14. I believe we'll be just fine up front in '03. We'll have Large back. Wallace, Everett, Browning, May, Brooks, Gardner etc. are all sophs. and will be bigger and stronger next season. Those sophs. led a freshman team last year that averaged around 50 pts. per game and scored 74 in their bowl game. Headrick and Telfer will be strong at DT. Hodge will return at DE. Plus we may have the quickest backfield ever next year with Rouse, McCord, and Byner. Plus Gaskin, Clement, Harris etc. at WR. They're playing as much as the starters due to the blowouts, which will only help. I believe we'll be o.k. Go Rebs.

  15. KevB, Ellis graduated from Rutledge in the early '70's. Then he graduated from C-N in '77. As good a coach as Ellis is, he's even a better person. I think that statement can be made for the whole Maryville staff. We are blessed with coaches who are great role models for our student athletes. Go Rebs.

  16. Maryville stepped up and played like, well like the no.1 team in the state. We have the BEST offensive line in the state. Period. This team, if they keep the FOCUS will be hard to beat.

KevB1990 our second teamers played and played a lot. I agree that I didn't think MHS would roll them out as bad as it was though.

It was a total TEAM domination. Byner and McCord stepped up huge after Carl went out. McCord is quick and can cut and Byner is super quick and made West defenders look silly several times. Merrit has the best hands I've seen on a high school receiver, plus Gaskin and Holt are tall and hard to defend.

Honestly Maryville's lineman in particular, looked to be in a lot better condition than West's. The Story Athletic Center is paying huge dividends.

We're very good on defense. Definately better and faster than a year ago, imo. Rang, Lucas, and Oliver are tough. Cole is a immovable object at DT and Headrick played well too. Galyon at DE was being tackled half the time and still pressured Southerland frequently. And we don't have a tuffer nut than Russell Clement.

Now let's win that county championship next Friday Rebs. WB is better on D than West and Lawhon at MLB is a stud.

One at a time, all the way to the 'Boro. Go Rebs.
