  1. Was that the hit that was put on after Carl ran 30-40 yds. with a screen pass? Props to A-E they have a good team. But A-E never stopped the Maryville offense, Maryville stopped themselves once with a QB/Center exchange fumble. Anyway A-E has a good team and good luck this season. Go Rebs.

  2. Mr. Soddy-Daisy, I heard you guys were at the Tusculum Camp this past week with Cookeville, Greeneville, and former Maryville coach Tim Hammontree's North Gwinnett team. I would like to hear your opinion on those teams and the scrimmage today at your place with S-D, A-E, East Ridge, and Maryville. How did S-D do against all those teams etc. Thanks and good luck this season. Go Rebs.

  3. I personnally would like to see BA and Maryville play. BA always has good talent. I know in '78 they had Wally Knox and I believe they had Kent Austin who both went to Ole Miss. BA and Maryville have played only 2 times with Maryville winning both 2-A title games. In '76 Maryville won 27-0 and in '78 the Red Rebels prevailed in a good game 21-14. Probably not too many teams who can they own a series lead on BA, even though they've only met twice. Go Rebs.

  4. West beat Maryville 31-24 in the regular season, NO EXCUSES. West had 16 1st downs to Maryville's 15. West had 185 yds. rushing, Maryville had 163. West had 126 passing, the Rebels had 129. Total offense, Morristown West-311, Maryville-292. However in the playoff game, Maryville dominated Morristown West, 23-7. Also West had no offensive TD's and averted the shutout on a punt return with 4 minutes left in the game. Maryville had 18 1st downs, West had 6. Maryville had 239 yds. rushing, West had 28. Maryville had 117 yds. in the air, West had 59. Total offense Maryville-356, Morristown West-87. West beat Maryville 31-24 and Maryville dominated West 23-7. Maryville went on to the 4-A state title, West did not. NO EXCUSES. Go Rebs.

  5. Dominique look all of us Maryville fans realize Maryville CAN be beat. We DO think anyone CAN be beat. That's why they play the games. I do think you need to look at Hillsboro's defense again. I just watched the tape of the game between Maryville and Hillsboro and the Burros had 4 seniors starting on defense, not 2. Those players were, DE John Henry, DT Chris Tabeling, DE Brian Price, and DB Aaron Scott. Go Rebs.

  6. Morristown West is a good team. They have depth, good players, and a good staff. Maryville has a great deal of respect for them. West did beat Maryville in the first game and I'm not taking anything what so ever away from them. They deserved it because they played better. But in my opinion Maryville had developed an attitude "we can't be beat" since they were riding a 14 game winning streak, and West brought them down to earth. A lot of times the pressure of keeping a streak alive also keeps a team from playing relaxed and at their best. The streak becomes all anyone talks about. After West beat Maryville, the Rebels became a better team. They had the pressure off of continuing the streak, they re-elavuated the way they did some things and really improved towards the end of the regular season and carried it all the way through the playoffs. Plus they had the mental advantage when they played West again of wanting to advenge the loss. They completely dominated West in the playoff game. The stats were more lopsided than the score (23-7) indicated and Maryville's D played their best game. Also, even though Carl was controlled pretty well by West in the 1st game, TJ had about 130 yds. on them and that flip flopped in the rematch in the playoffs. That's the reason I predict McCord will have some huge games early in the year, because everyone will be concentrating on Stewart and McCord is quicker than both Carl and TJ. Go Rebs.

  7. I agree any team is beatable, including Maryville. A lot goes into a good team. Chemistry, staying healthy, no turnovers, luck, staying hungry, etc. all add to the making of a good team. How Rouse plays this season is the key to Maryville's offense. Finding a leader on defense to replace Colton, is the key to the defense imo. As for Maryville being the best team or not that is up for conjecture, but Mako apparently didn't see the 4-A championship game last year. Maryville's depth simply wore out Hillsboro's Defense and Stewart and company ran wild in the 4th quarter. Stewart had a TD called back plus Maryville was on Hillsboro's 8 gettin' ready to stick another one in the end zone when they kneed it down to kill the clock. As far as AC they beat Maryville once in '97. Otherwise Maryville has owned them. Go Rebs.

  8. I would have to say the '75 Maryville vs. Loudon game is the best game. Loudon came into the game defending 4-A state champs and had a 20+ game winning streak. The game also pitted 2 legendary coaches, Ted Wilson of Maryville and Bert "Chig" Ratledge of Loudon. As for the game, Maryville broke Loudon's streak and won a 4 overtime thriller 13-10. By the way the 2 teams played again in the semi-finals of the double A playoffs and Loudon won in overtime 9-6. Loudon then went on to win their second straight 2-A title. Go Rebs.

  9. Well I have to say Shields Stadium, Jim Renfro Field, Maryville High School, Maryville. Maryville's stadium although relatively new, has a home side which has no track and the fans are right on top of you. And the neat thing about the stadium is it's been located at the same site for over 75 years. Go Rebs.
