  1. If the same kids who transferred in 5th-7th grade had all stayed at WB how many games would Shad have won instead of lost? For the kids who are now in high school. I say....ZERO.

I'll put it another way: take the 4-5 best players off murvil's team (who all live in city) and send them to LA, now how many more games does Shad win? I say maybe 2.

IMO he is barking up wrong tree. Start questioning the commitment of the BCBOE to the football program and he might get somewhere.

Agree. Looks like Shad has gone from "changing the culture" to jumping on the tuition angle before the first game is played. At least in terms of playing us.

  2. I've learned to appreciate Spurrier more and more. Never liked losing to him but he was just doing his job. Has recruiting dropped or is it that and injuries both? Cupboard seems pretty bare this year. How much did he contribute to the facilities at SH? Nice campus; looking forward to see DB next year Good Lord willing. Always get a kick out of his comments particularly when they catch him going off the field at half.

  3. G91-I really don't understand your point. Is it that GQ is in the fortunate situation of being able to remove the starters early and other teams are not? What exactly prevents a coach from playing his backup O or D when he is down 40something in the 3rd or 4th? Is it his pride? He thinks losing by 4-5 TDs is more acceptable? I don't get that. The same coaches whine this year about being forced to play so many guys both ways and then whine the next year about having to play so many guys that haven't played much football. I simply can't agree that losing by 35ish is more important than building depth and experience for down the road.

Tough night him. Maryville won, and William Blount lost to Bearden; again. So he goes back to his happy place. 2007

  4. I guess we'll never know about the "L". It wasn't a scoring play called back so ' not guranteeing anything.  Alcoa's defense had a chance to stop us on third and long at our 34 but with the game on the line we ate most of the clock and tacked on another three points. Beat em by 3 or 4 tds or by one and their coach will offer up excuses. No matter, I enjoy them all.

  5. Just read the paper. With all due respect to Coach Rankin there was a previous holding call made. And I don't guess the refs were "looking" for a personal foul when Dylan Hopkins was shoved into the brick wall ten yards out of bounds on our last drive either. Just sayin

  6. Great comeback from Alcoa. I sincerely hope we do not see another defensive front as physical as theirs the rest of the year. That group can play with anyone. Gutsy drive by my Rebels that resulted in the last field goal. Ate most of the fourth quarter, which was likely as big or bigger than the three points it yielded. Having two programs, fans, stadiums and atmosphere in such close proximity is such a blessing. Felt this would be a struggle and it was. Glad I stayed.

  7. I agree that the Daily Times is kinda stinking it up in High School football coverage these days. They used to have a full article for all the High Schools in the county and Greenback on Fridays. And on Saturday they would have in-depth stories and pictures from all the games. What happened?

I don't know two big rivalry games in the county tonight but you would never know it.

  8. ESPN felt this game was worthy of their time three years ago, and our local paper, who has the good fortune to have the two best programs in the state in their backyard cannot find the time to put any effort whatsoever to this game during the week. The meager offering they had yesterday was simply reprinting the quotes from the game five years ago. W E A K

  9. Bee Cee haz tha jumbowtron werkin' good....... :thumb:

Barney I have to agree on the '70 teem.....Totally dominant....Led by Tommy Beaver, who many still believe is the best QB to ever pull on a red, black, or white jersey at 825......

Possibly the best all around athlete IMO. Basketball, blazing fast ball and worked as a golf pro I believe?

  10. I don't know who wins this one. Alcoa is a strong defense, especially the line. I suspect the secondary will get taken advantage of by Marvyille. Who knows. Both programs are excellent in their own right. I find it odd that Maryville fans brag about beating Alcoa though, it being a much smaller school and all. They are supposed to beat them. I can beat my youngest son in basketball, but I don't go bragging about it. (Maybe in a couple years I will brag about it). Just trying to stir things up a little. Comments anyone?

So using your logic WB and Heritage should always beat them too right? But yeah if we beat them that logic will be the first words out of their Coach's mouth.

  11. I thought 14 had a great game, He came so ever close to getting two picks and knew when to come up to the line and play back for a pass. I know of at least three times he was right there on the spot to save us.

Laid completely out once to break up a pass on third down. As I stated earlier. I think our defense will be fine and playing this game this early will be a tremendous plus for them.

  12. The game lived up to the hype and as Coach said was closer than score indicated.

I think our lead is bigger at half if we play the ball more on those third and longs but we'll learn from that. I feel good about our defense. Better technique on a couple of long balls and better tackling when Kentel Williams was in the wildcat and their total yards go way down. Very fixable and a game this early against this type of competition likely good for us.

To say officials robbed us of a closer game as one poster said is ridiculous. We had 62 penalty yards to their 40 and I quit trying to keep up with the offensive holds they got away with.

Great offensive play calling, and I am sure we had more we did not use. Hard to defend with that many playmakers.

I hope and pray and Jordan Ervin is ok. This  young man has been through a lot. Hope Blackmon is better too.

Fulton is a well coached team with athletes all over the field. Lots of respect for the program and the continuity of their coaching staff is similar to ours. Hope to see their folks the first weekend in December in middle Tennessee.

    Go Rebels.

  13. Guys I was looking on the channel guide and I couldn't find the channel for the Maryville game tonight.. It said myVLT was supposed to be carrying it, but the channel guide shows an NFL preseason game on there. It's Comcast that I'm looking for.

Its WVLT 8; the main channel. I'm guessing the NFL game is being offered by cbs and 8 is pre-empting it. They have announced wvlt all week; pre game at 7.
