  1. Well, don't I look a little foolish sending condolences to a healthy person. That's alright though. It's great to hear that Jarrett is playing again. Congratuations to NCS on their win. Good luck in districts.
  2. Don't have any stats. DL led most of the game. MLK used pressure defense to get close, but a wide open layup by Mantlo but the Mustangs up by 3 with about 15 seconds left. Lipscomb denied MLK an opening and almost stole the ball, knocking it out of bounds with 7 seconds. MLK inbounded the ball and was able to get a loose ball layup, but with only 2 seconds left DL didn't have to inbound the ball as time expired. Tough district! Great fan interaction by both sides. The Bomb Squad was great!
  3. Game is at MLK. Lipscomb played very good game last time these two met. Allowed Johnny Lee to get an open look for a 3 with 5 seconds left in regulation to tie game and send it into overtime, where MLK pulled away. If it comes down to that again, Lipscomb won't allow that to happen. Should be a great game. What antics will Doc use to motivate his Royals tonight?
  4. I hate to hear about Jarrett. As a parent of a senior who also had to miss games due to an injury, it is very frustrating. Nevertheless, you have to accept certain things in life and move on. One thing for sure, whether a fan or not, Jarrett Anderson had an impact on Nashville's basketball scene. Sarge, I wish you the best of luck in baseball and all your future endeavors.

    MLK

Doc is eccentric, and has his own way of doing things. I think he is fun to watch and always has his team prepared and is very intense. However, he has always shown respect to the other teams, coaches, fans and refs. I've never seen him not shake hands with the Lipscomb teams after both winning and losing.
  6. What a game. Goodpasture wins after refs rule that Mantlo's 3 pointer was after the buzzer. Good luck to Goodpasture the rest of the season. The bomb squad was great!
  7. This is one of the best rivalries in Nashville. Goodpasture will definitely be looking for revenge. Lipscomb is looking for the a solid game as they continue to improve and of course the bragging rights of a sweep. I look forward to a fun atmosphere and appreciate the hospitality we are shown when we visit. Hopefully the bomb squad will be out in full force. Lipscomb has made a lot of improvements since the last meeting. Question is, will they play with confidence? I think so.
  8. Greenbrier fans, Lipscomb will be coming to your place on the 17th. I am hoping that you will have a good crowd with your faces/chests painted. You represented your school well at Lipscomb and I feel that they actually represent the school better than those fans who don't support their teams.
  9. Lipscomb needs to take care of Macon County first, then they can worry about Goodpasture.
  10. I follow NCS basketball, although I have a son who plays for another school. I've coached a few of the players in soccer when they were younger. I was dismayed that anyone would reference someone's race/Heritage so blatantly. Very distasteful and very poor sportsmanship. I would hope that the administration would take quick action. I suggest those responsible be required to apologize in person. Now to NCS03 and Big48eagle, your anger is warranted, but it is not in control. Don't stoop to the racists tactics, or even suggest that you would use their tactics. It just makes you one of them. And I would argue that a sign that makes light of someones stature is equally demeaning and hurtful. Both sets of fans need to be more creative with your support of your team. Enough said, lets move on. Sounds like another competitive game, and a rematch sounds possible in the district tournament. Good luck to both teams. Go Eagles!
  11. Sounds like Portland's team played well. Having seen them play only three times, I can't say much about them. However, if they get their guards and post player to shoot well, they can easily go far. My belief is that since the team was playing well, Portland's coach and Brewer were probably letting the team build their confidence. Nobody could hold Brewer to 4 points unless Brewer allowed them to. Ultimate result is, he affected the game tremendously just with his presence. He's fun to watch on the court, except when he's beating your team.
  12. Scoreboard is correct. I was late getting to the game. Arrived with about 2:00 minutes left to play in 2nd qtr with game tied at 28. EL went on a little run and was up by 8 to 10. East Lit extended lead to about 13 in 3rd before Lipscomb made a comeback to cut the lead to 4, but that was as close as it got. Lipscomb looked out of sync and made a lot of unforced errors. East Lit. used their quickness to intercept some poor passes. East Lit. appeared to shoot the ball very well, I'm sure they outrebounded Lipscomb. Simply put, East Lit. put a whooping on David Lipscomb.
  13. Ravenwood has a yound, talented team. MLK plays a lot of young players and they are very talented.
  14. Skinner will score first. D. Anderson will be high scorer for NCS (21).
  15. Did vandyfan say they are playing in out house. Must be one stinking place to play. Dynamite goes off, NCS by 4.
  16. I think its great for the students to show their school spirit. No, it doesn't make the school look bad. As with anything, it can get out of hand, but deal with that on an individual basis. The vast majority of the time the kids are having fun and enjoy being part of the game. I thought it was great when Greenbrier played us at our gym. Two of their students had painted their chests. One with Bob, the other with Cats. Only problem was when they weren't together, Bob looked like he had his name on his chest. I say let them have fun. It usually spurs other students to want to get involved. So dress up, act goofy and cheer your team on.
  17. NCSeagle, I was a band geek. What do you think about that? But, that being the case, you know I can still put you in your place any day of the week. Shot clock? I'd like to see it only for the the fact that it would prepare HS players for the next level. However, I believe the shot clock should be 60 seconds. They are still learning and need more time to develop good shot selection. It would also allow a team that is up to be able to play smart basketball down the stretch. Reality is ($$$$$) most schools can't afford the added responsibility of putting in a shot clock, so I don't expect this to happen.
  18. Portland can play team ball, especially defensively. Adams is very good at driving the lane and hitting pull-up floater. Outside shooter #25 hits the 3. I predict: Portland-58 Westmoreland-47 Brewer with 42!
  19. I agree. HF didn't seem to be into the game. Neither did their crowd. Lipscomb executed very well and were very confident going in halftime all even. I thought the zone defense seemed to confuse HF. Mayes and Pennington did a great job denying Robinson many opportunities. Also, it seemed to work well by pulling Mayes out and forcing Robinson to come out. (Although he did a better job defending outside than I thought he might). Space had a great game. Was in a flow and was able to have good endurance the entire game. Except for his momentary loss of patience, an A+ game. Since Renfoe didn't get much rest, he seemed spent in the 4th quarter. I also agree that Coach Pickens did an excellent job with the matchups, rotations and play calling. (Of course I attribute that to Panzyfan sitting next to him on the bench whispering instructions...jk). Not sure I want to play HF again though.
  20. MLK will pull away in 4th qtr. MLK 56 SC 49
  21. Anthony took a hard charge by Renfoe who actually pushed him to the ground with no foul being called. The force with which Renfoe was able to push him caused a bone in his hand to be broken. Just kidding Hume Fogg. Actually, Anthony was trying to get a charge call, was a little off balance when he went down and just landed on his hand the wrong way. Very little contact occured. Fluke accident.
  22. Lipscomb is playing well. Coach Pickens continues to mold this team into a contender. McPherson is shooting extremely well, Mantlo is going to have a good shooting night, Mayes will play smarter in the paint, Pharr and Robertson are using their quickness for much needed offense and defensive pressure. And we can't forget about "blondie" who is providing emotional lift every game, in addition to scoring, fighting for lose balls and solid defense. The recent "addition" to the coaching staff has helped provide a tactical advantage as well. JK. The sixth man is getting stronger and will be louder this Friday! Parents included. Nevertheless, HF is a formidable opponent. They have size, quickness, finesse, can take it inside or knock it down from outside. If the DL team that played in the first half of the first game shows up, then HF by 10+. However, if Lipscomb plays 32 minutes like they did Tue, then DL by 6.
  23. Brewer is definitely the best high school basketball player I've gotten to see in person. I don't know how well he will do as a freshman, but I expect him to make an impact before he leaves. His quickness is deceptive. Great pull up jumper. Lipscomb does seem to be coming together. Portland played a very tough defense, but Lipscomb was patient. McPherson and Pennington kept us in the game early. Pharr, Mantlo, Robertson continue to be solid and Mayes quietly works the inside. #21 for Portland doesn't seem to be getting as much playing time as before, but had a very good game. Hit 3 or 4 pull up floaters in the paint, which freed up Brewer (although he doesn't need much help). The key to victory...the sixth man! Great job by the DL student section.
  24. Doctors and lawyers? What about the police officers, office assistants, accountants, painters, roofers, schoolteachers, coaches, etc.?
  25. Should make for a good game. Lipscomb is looking to get revenge for the loss at Portland. Both need the win for their district race. If Portland is healthy, and Brewer is on, Portland by 5. If Lipscomb can get hot early and their fans get into the game, Lipscomb by 10. Brewer has handled the pressure very well. He has to carry this team in all aspects. He has to perform game in, game out. With that said, I hope the DL fans are able to get to Brewer. I would like to see students move to the sides. They lose effectiveness when the teams are at the far end of the gym. With the time change, I wouldn't be surprised if Portland's fan base is down. However, DL should have a lot of students there.
