  1. Game went to overtime, but I don't have a final score yet.
  2. With the final score of 9-4 in extra innings what happened? Did someone hit a grand slam? I would think Lipscomb would have been the home team, considering they came out of the winners bracket. Wouldn't the first run have won the game for them? (obviously not, if the score was 9-4). I guess both teams now have to get ready for Regions on Monday. Where will the region tournament be held? Thanks for any info.
  3. From a DL fan, congratulations to LA. Very good game. I never really thought LA should be considered the underdog, coming out of the Region they played in and having beaten the teams they beat on the way to the Championship. Wilson Cates is definitely a very good player and would make a great defensive back or reciever in college. Very heady player. He took some shots, gave some shots and kept playing. The entire LA team played a near flawless game. Congratulations! Congratulations to DL on a great season. No one really expected you to make it to the Championship after being moved up in classification, but you were able to step it up. Should be a fun year again next year with the returning talent.
  4. I apologize if my post insulted anyone. Please reread my previous post to see that I was referring to my upbringing, not trying to insult or belittle anyone. LA is going to be a very tough opponent. DL will hopefully play good solid defense and take care of the ball on offense. Hopefully, both teams will have no injuries. I'm looking forward to watching Wilson Cates play. Plus, with all of the great comments about his character, its great to see this young man doing so well. Listen, if we were all to meet at church on a Sunday morning, I'm sure that we would realize that we all are pretty much the same. Both teams have young men who have worked very hard to get to this point. Both teams have young men who are striving to be good leaders and examples. Both teams have young men who are christians, trying to live their lives for His glory, not their own.
  5. First, I don't consider myself "city folk," I'm actually an Army brat. I actually live in Bellevue, which for most of my life, was known as the "sticks." I definitely don't think I, or anyone from DL is better than anyone else. We are all created by the same amazing God. Second, I was merely pointing out that it really hasn't been that long since another region won the state championship. Yes, Region 2 has a good recent history. LA should be proud of their accomplishments this year. Ultimately, only this years team can win the championship. "God sets himself against the proud, but he shows favor to the humble." James 4:6 This should be a great game. Although I am pulling for DL, I would take some of the action with HighSchoolfootballknowitall. There is no way Lipscomb holds LA behind the 50.
  6. From the TSSAA website, the 3A Champions are 2004 Fulton Class 3A (13-2) 34-6 Murfreesboro 2003 Fulton Class 3A (14-1) 36-9 Murfreesboro 2002 Ridgeway Class 3A (14-1) 21-14 Murfreesboro 2001 Austin East Class 3A (13-2) 27-21 Murfreesboro 2000 Portland Class 3A (15-0) 43-0 Murfreesboro 1999 Milan Class 3A 21-14 Nashville 1998 Melrose Class 3A 35-34 Nashville Attendance - 10,500 1997 White House Class 3A 30-20 Nashville Attendance - 12,000 1996 Melrose Class 3A 32-12 Nashville Attendance - 12,000 1995 Marion County Class 3A 28-7 Nashville Attendance - 18,000 1994 Marion County Class 3A 43-14 Nashville Attendance - 10,000 1993 Springfield Class 3A 28-6 Nashville Attendance - 12,000 Would indicate the 3A champ has come from Region 2 for the last 2 years. By geographic region East 5, West 4, Middle 3 Now you know it too.
  7. This really should be a good game. It has a cinderella story in LA being a 4 seed with a 5-5 record making it all the way to the championship, against the experienced DL Mustangs (3 championship games in the last 4 years, and a semi-final loss last year to eventual champ Alcoa). There really isn't an "underdog" in this game. With the success and momentum that LA possesses right know, they could easily be favored to win. However, DL could just as easily be considered a heavy favorite because of their 13 game winning streak and vast playoff experience. DL has quite a few injured players, and probably won't be at 100% by Saturday. However, if they can contain Cates, they will have a shot at winning. I wish both teams safety in their travls. Go Mustangs!
  8. This was a very good game. Covington would have won had their receivers been able to hold to the ball. I believe I counted 6-7 dropped passes and two over throws to wide open recievers. The keys to Lipscombs win were two third down conversions to keep their opening drive alive, in which they were able to get a field goal and then scoring on the opening drive of the second half. Both of those allowed the defense to play relaxed and keep the pressure on. They will definitely have their hands full next Saturday with Livingston Academy. With quite a few injuries, if will be difficult for DL to pull out the win. LA has built momentum and confidence and their underdog rating has allowed them to gain a lot fo support. Hopefully the Mustangs can pull it all together, get healthy, and pull out the victory.
  9. I realize that I am weighing in on this late in the game, but here goes, 1A - TC beats JB 42-21 2A - Huntingdon beats Alcoa 29-28 in Ovt 3A - Lipscomb beats ND 24-14 4A - Maryville beats Hillsboro 35-20 5A - Oak Ridge beats Ridgeway 24-17
  10. You might hear about him now. I hear he hit for the cycle and had an unassisted double play in Franklin's 14-2 victory over Wilson Central. Pretty impressive for a freshman, especially in a high pressured game like sectionals.
  11. I guess I'm a little surprised. I thought Station Camp might win once, but twice is pretty impressive. Both teams are very good. I suspect Smith County is a little disappointed. But it really does'nt matter. I see an 8AA sweep in regionals. Good luck to both teams!
  12. What if one of the teams is runner-up in their region. Then the Region 3 champ and the Region 6 runner-up (or vice-versa) would be in opposite brackets. The matchups are possible.
  13. When will the Greenbrier - Macon Cty game be finished? Will the winner play Lipscomb today or tomorrow? Time and place?
  14. A - Goodpasture over USJ (5-2) AA- Lipscomb over Walker Valley (8-6) AAA - Overton over Ooltewah (3-1) Midstate sweeps!
  15. Final score, HFA 4 Lipscomb 1. Lipscomb is eliminated. HFA plays Station Camp now to see who plays Greenbrier in the 8AA district finals and a chance to move on to Regionals. Congratulations to the Lady Mustangs on a good year. Losing 7 key players, including Megan Rhodes (4 Seniors, 2 other starters who did not return and 1 other player who was expected to be a starter this year), made this year a year of transition. Add to that the loss of two other starters to injuries, and playing several games without two more starters. I expect Lipscomb to return to the top of 8AA next year. Good luck to HFA, Station Camp and Greenbrier!
  16. Bottom of the 4th, HFA is at bat with a 4-0 lead over Lipscomb. HF is hitting the ball well and has been helped by some poor fielding on the part of Lipscomb. Lipscomb's bats are silent to this point. 2nd inning was big for HF. Currently it is 4-1, bottom of the 6th.
  17. Lipscomb and Hume Fogg both won today and will meet tomorrow at 2:00 in an elimination game. The winner plays again at 4:00 against the loser of the Greenbrier-Station Camp game this evening. Anybody have a score? Lipscomb has been hitting the ball very well lately. If they continue to do so, they have a great shot at winning two tomorrow. Considering all they have had to overcome this year, they are doing very well. Good luck Lady Mustangs!
  18. Greenbrier beat David Lipscomb 2-0. Except for Lipscomb's first inning, both teams played good defense. Macon Co. won an elimination game over Springfield, as did MLK over Portland. Anybody have a score from the HFA-Station Camp game?
  19. Love to watch him coach. But to play against him is another thing. He'll get the other team thinking about what crazy thing he may do next rather than playing basketball. Looks like it worked today.
  20. MLK makes it tow for District 8AA in the semi-finals. Sounded like a classic by Doc Shelton and his Royal Knights!
  21. Be careful about what you say. "The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective." James 5:16
  22. btown, what are you talking about? Mustang maniac just said that it would quiet the Memphis crowd down if there were two teams from District 8AA in the semifinals. Obviously, he wasn't talking about you, Bolivar or Haywood.
  23. Neither do his players, that is why they play good defense without fouling.
  24. Pickens is just like 95% of the coaches out there. He loves his players. He does get intense. I think I know the situation being referred to, and had to suppress my laughter as P decided against sending in Rob Mallernee, who probably weighs a buck and a quarter soaking wet. Looked like Rob's feet came off the floor. He and his teammates were giggling like girls about it on the bench. Definitely no injuries, nor any harm intended.
