  1. Metro suffers from the fact that the two biggest summer programs in the past -- Shelby Park and Donelson Civitan -- both played slow pitch as late as 2007 and may still be, as far as I know. Gifted athletes that had no idea how to deal with fast pitch. Madison Park had fast pitch, but I don't know if there is even a program there anymore. The Crieve Hall park also used to have a great program. Between 2003-2007, Hume Fogg and Hunters Lane in Metro both went to the state and benefitted from having girls who played in the Hendersonville, Madison and Moss Wright/Goodlettsville leagues. They also played travel ball together for several years and took lessons. However, I don't know if any of these parks have strong programs anymore.
  2. MrNoitAll, I must let you know that you are probably correct about the fact that Hume-Fogg is down; however, it has nothing to do with East Literature having their own team. HFA went to the state in both 2006 and 2007, and at that time, there was one girl that started for the Blue Knights from East. She was a very good player and contributed to the success of those teams, but one player does not a feeder system make. And before anyone wonders, she played third base, not a catcher or a pitcher. Many of the core players on those two HFA teams went to Meigs and played on their club middle school team. As far as I know, the middle school no longer fields a club team, which really was a feeder for the high school. And to clarify the situation with East and HFA -- For years, East had very few students in the high school and were allowed to go play sports at other Metro high schools, because their own school couldn't field a team. I know football players played with Stratford and the softball players played with HFA. As the student population grew and interest for teams grew, East added more sports. And as a parent who has daughters, one graduating from East and one that graduated from Hume-Fogg--I feel fairly confident of these facts. Not a disagreement about your standings, just your reasons behind them.
  3. Did you actually see any games in 9AA last year?? I will be extremely surprised if Ezell is anything but the champion in this district. They were incredible, lost few starters and had great underclassmen in key positions. I saw them several times last year--they could have easily gone to state, if they hadn't had to face Camden in their sub-state game.

My daughter's career concluded last week at the State tournament. We played a tough game against the eventual champion, Goodpasture, and sadly lost, 4-3. Our five seniors drove back into Nashville to graduate, then lost again the next morning to Westview. These seniors have been district champs in 2006, regional winners in 2007, and sectional winners both in '06 and '07. These are HUGE accomplishments for our school. It is hard for other people to understand the sacrifices the players make to attend such a great academic high school AND to be successful on the field. Lots of studying on the way to games, during JV games and even at weekend tournaments was a must, in addition to many very late nights after games. Each of our seniors has won academic awards over her career at HFA and 3 of the 5 were also all-district multiple times. Each has won academic scholarships to further their education and one, Taylor Childress, will continue her playing career at Centre College. I am so proud to have been a part of their lives and know that Brooke, Taylor, Ashley, Diana and Sarah Beth will do great things in life and contribute their communities and the world. I also must thank Mike Caldwell and Bob Hill for coaching and encouraging their successes both on and off the field. May God bless each member of the team in their future endeavors. rlh
  5. Hume-Fogg defeated Sycamore 1-0. Both pitchers (Sam Watts for Sycamore and Brooke Heriges for HFA) threw very well. Ashley Arnold, senior catcher from HFA, hit her first homerun in the bottom of the sixth for the difference in the game. Hard fought on both sides.
  6. Eakes, the shortstop, hit the HR for Ezell.
  7. what's the schedule for May 9?
  8. Congratulations to all of these girls for working hard in the classroom and working hard on the field. I know how much effort it takes to keep those grades up, especially during the season. This is a great achievement and I know all of these ladies will continue to be successful in college and throughout their lives.
