  1. My point is that Ted Turner will have nothing to say about this. By the way to bad Ted never deliverd on the rest of his pledge.

McCallie, The Citadel (where one of Turner's son went) and Brown University (where Turner went and got expelled) are each beneficiaries of $25 million remainder trusts. The way they get the money is Turner dies. McCallie's endowment is $70+ million. USA1, you certainly don't allow your ignorance of the facts stand in the way of your posting.

  2. I would be willing to bet that a majority of ND's victories over SEC teams either came in their "glory" days or against teams like Miss. St...... Unless you are counting the 2 times that the best ND team in years beat the worst TN team in years. ND just better hope they don't have to play UT next year in a bowl.

Yeah, I understand the fear is palpable at South Bend that if they have to play UT next year in a bowl game it's because they won't be playing in the BCS.

  3. There is no question, The brass at ESPN hates the University of Tennessee. No, not the 1,000 employees, but the top brass. It is very well known. Tennessee might just have the cleanest sports programs in the country as ESPN has practically turned over every rock in Knoxville looking for infractions. This has been going on for years. Just as a example. During the tutering epasode (that turned out to be total bull) ESPN officals showed up in Knoxville offering athletes $20,000.00 to testify they had test taken for them by tutors. To bad for ESPN, they had no takers. Thats just one example. And ESPN continues to this day with this witch hunt.

I knew it, I knew it, there's a conspiracy at ESPN because the "top brass'" children couldn't get in to that bastion of educational excellence and now they "hate" the school. And even better, you've scooped all the media including the Sentinel with a story you can prove because your third cousins roomate's best friend heard a former walk on who didn't make the team talk about that "there was a guy offering money around UT for dirt on the program". Have you thought about going to the National Inquirer with this news? They're not much into fact checking so they might want to publish it beside the article about the Big Foot sighting near Townsend.

  4. Yea, saw that junk myself. Like most national press they have no clue. ESPN does not like Tennessee and it shows. There is no question the best over all football is played around the Knoxville and Chattanogga areas. Memphis may have a few more high profile athletes but when it comes team championships Memphis is second to only upper East Tennessee.

    Areas

    Knoxville (Blount Co.)

    Chattanogga

    Nashville

    Memphis

    Tri-Cities

In that order IMO has the best HS football.

ESPN is a large media company owned by the Disney corporation and it employs over 1000. Are all 1000 employees part of this conspiracy to dis Tennessee? I know, I know Peyton didn't win the Heisman because somehow and never explained, ESPN figured out that by not "electing" Manning, it increased its revenue. And somehow by not ranking Tennessee high school football higher, its ratings will improve.

  5. Wow, You sound like Candy fan.

WHile they haven't stepped foot on college field. You can rate the current recruits/commitements coming out of HS and one service says Tennessee has the #3 rated class of HS players. Look at the past several years and usually the top 10-12 rated teams end up being pretty good and end up playing in BCS & New Years day bowls.

Tennessee two years ago had a concensus Top 5 class and was ranked #1 by one service (can't remember which one) and it looks like for the most part that class is going to bring a lot of excitment to Tennessee Football over the next several years as most of them either start or are first off the bench and should be the starters and key players the next two or three years. You are correct some don't panout but for the most part the schools that sign those kind of players year in & year out that are ranked that high out of high school are the teams to beat & play for championships. That UT signing class of 2005 it included these players on Offense:

    QB - Jon Crompton

    RB's - Lamrcus Coker & M. Hardesty

    WR's - Austin Rogers, J. Briscoe, S. Shelley & L. Taylor

    TE - Jeff Cottam

    OL - C. Scott, A. Parker, D. Myers & C - Josh McNeil.

    On Defense:

    DE - Wes Brown

DT - Demonte Bolden, Dan Williams, V. Richard

LB - Rico McCoy, Andre Mathis, Adam Myers-White

DB - Demetrice Morley, Marsalous Johnson, Antonio Wardlow, Ricardo Kemp

Lamarcus, Delmonte, Demetrice, Marsalous, Antonio, Ricardo, Rico. And my wife and I were having a tough time coming up with what to name our last!

  6. I'm pretty sure UNC attended and/or follows McCallie and was being sarcastic.

Thank you Indian, although "sarcastic" might be too strong a word. I prefer to think of it as satire. Must not have been that good of satire or sarcasm, for that matter, because oknative didn't recognize it as such. On the other hand, native must be from Oklahoma which would explain having to explain it to him. Wonder if he's a wagon burner?

  7. does McCallie take students anytime in the year? Would they take a student who is at Baylor, who doesn't play sports, but just unhappy and wants to go to McCallie midsemester?

You forgot the third important question. Do his parents have $17K for tuition?

If his parents can answer affirmatively to the third question. McCallie will answer affirmatively to first two just as Baylor and GPS would too.

  8. uncfan,

If Potter has signed the papers, why interview candidates?

Surely people have better things to do at this time of the

year than to conduct pretend interviews.

Stantrott. Those are the actual posts earlier this year on a BA/McCallie thread prior to the regular season game stating as fact not only what Ralph had supposedly done but what BA was going to do. Obviously, the posters were wrong about this and probably a lot of other things this season. The idea that some guys in Chattanooga would have any insight into what either BA or Coach Potter were doing privately is ridiculous. In order to demonstrate that fact, I used "satire".

"Satire" is a literary concept that you should have been introduced to somewhere in your academic career. Generally the concept is introduced through the reading of "Gulliver's Travels" written by a guy by the name of "Jonathan Swift". He wrote it a long time ago. Does any of this ring a bell?

  9. I think the attitude that some of us are expressing here is that we CoachT screen names of wisdom do not know the details of what happened in this situtation. I know what I have read but that but in no way do I assume that it is an accurate account of what occurred. There are those that do know what happened, and those are the people involved, some of whom are school administrators. They are given the resposibility to sort this thing out and make the best decision for those involved. Perhaps we should let them do their job.

That is not to say that they are omniscient and can not get it wrong. There is less chance of that, however, than a bunch of anonymous folks on the internet spouting off about something they know little about. If those close to incident see wrong doing by the administrators responsible for the resolution, then get rid of them. Otherwise we should accept their decision. Either way, I do not see that it is approriate for a 17-18 year old kid to be publicly flogged by a bunch of nameless folks that know very little about what actually happened.

By the way, it's interesting you say that kids today " in most cases behave awfully". In the wrestling matches and tournaments I have watched over the last several years, which is more than a few, I see, for the most part, hard working, dedicated kids who behave well. There are exceptions of course and they are usually handled just fine by either coaches or parents or both.

This is one of those incidents that fell in the public domain. As such, there not a privacy issue. Forget the kid's name, it's not important. Most of the opinions have been hypothetically stated as in: "If this happens, then this is what should happen". And besides, this is the internet. It's easy to avoid. Just hit "Control" "Alt" "Delete".

  10. Good news for Maryville. Quarles has been approached along with a few other top coaches. However, he is a back-up. Rector is the primary target. My intel is that it is Rector's job to accept or decline. If he declines, they will move down the list.

As you can read below, we in Chattanooga have from unimpeachable sources the inside scoop of what's going to happen at BA. PRIMETIME OWL, SergeantOwl22 and ssvolguy put their incredible reputations for accuracy on the line all the way back in September. How a bunch of yahoos from Ooltewah were able to prophesy the future with such certainty is a mystery that the rest of us will never be able to fathom. I understand they are ready to consult on point spreads for not only all the bowl games but will predict which teams will be in the Super Bowl and the winner. Amazing!

I heard before this season was even started that Potter was leaving next year. This is his last year at McCallie. Its already in the bag... Trust me. I've heard from very very reliable sources. I've just kept my mouth shut. He has already signed the papers and everything.

And actually I live in Chattanooga. I'm not a BA fan

I know for a fact that he is going... When the time comes I want apologies...... Its a done deal! I'm not trying to start anything. Just stating the truth. Yes, it stinks but it is the truth. I kept my mouth shut for 3 months now.

  11. Some of us who really care about our kids ARE glad. What good are the Gold Balls if the kids who earned them don't go on in sports. For instance what about the large black garbage bag of college letters that were thrown out of his office after he left that the kids knew NOTHING about. This year one of our kids (Eugene Goree) has already gotten an offer from Colorado, and for this I am Thankful because Eugene deserves it. At least Coach A WILL talk to scouts and help the kids to further themselves. This is what I see as the main function of a Great Coach. I may not agree with Coach Shad at Smyrna but he delivers for his kids also. I will give the devil his due and Coach Rankin CAN win games, but when it comes to the kids he is severely lacking in my opinion.

Now that he is up y'alls way y'all can play him. After all it is only a 2A team so y'all should have no problem.

Quit taunting the Owls! They'll peck you to death.

  12. WWLD?

    What would Logsdon do?

Off the team. There's got to be consequences for crimes - sit out a year. There's got to be redemption - come back the next after you've learned your lesson. One of the main problems with college athletes who continually get into trouble is that all through their lives, their athletic ability is used as a "get out of jail for free card". Learning a tough lesson now might be the best thing that comes out of this.

  13. Why in the world did Florida schedule UCF, Southern Miss and Western Carolina instead of Notre Dame, Michigan and USC????? Ooltewah had a tough schedule this year. Central is a rivalry that is no longer going to be played. Ooltewah Football is just now being noticed in the past 5-6 years. I really don't understand why everyone is crying because Ooltewah doesn't play McCallie.... Everyone knows it would be a great game but why cry about it and call Ooltewah chickens??? Haha... come on... I'm also sure all of you "Riverdale Fans" are sooooooo happy that Mr. Rankin left. I mean wow, he did only bring home 3-4 5A state championships....

It's such a natural rivalry that even folks from Middle Tennessee wonder why it doesn't happen. I heard ESPN is going to do a story on it "Ooltewah Owls or Chickens". Bob Costas has a call to Ed Foster wanting to know why not. Bill O'Reilly wants him to quit spinning. 2007 would be a great year to start it. McCallie's cupboard is bare. Ooltewah remains the "Champion of Most of Chattanooga". McCallie won't be able to recruit your "8th graders". You'll get to make thousands of posts on CoachT prior to the game and rub it in afterwards. I'm calling Rhonda (I do my own hair) Thurman to report this conspiracy not to play McCallie. The very fate of high school athletics hangs on whether this game gets played.

  14. The biggest reason is that the EX Coach would not schedule them. He would scrimmage them but NOT play them when it counted, ie the usual MBA scrimmage every year. That is why alot of folks are glad we have Coach A now. He will play anybody as long as they are tough and will challenge the program to get better.

As to air yards against Smyrna, R'dale managed to beat them once this year 49-0 with exactly 0 air yards as we did not even attempt a pass in that game. The second game with them they made the adjustments that were necessary and beat us. Just like they beat y'all.

Do y'all play Baylor? Seems they are close also and will give y'all a good game. At least they would be tougher compitition than a little 4A school from Nashville. Would be a better gate also.

Is the mascot an Owl or a chicken? I know they both have feathers. :P

This field has been plowed and this horse has been beaten. They ain't going to play McCallie come He** or high water. They blame it on their principal. The story is he's afraid they'll recruit "his" 8th graders. The irony is one of their best players is a McCallie transfer. Instead of whipping up on Rhea and Chattanooga Central this year, scheduling some better competition might have helped them in the playoffs. Of course they'll be able to tell their kids they had an undefeated regular season and were the "Champions of Most of Chattanooga".

  15. Carlton Flatt is the ultimate conundrum when it comes to high school football in the state of Tennessee. I've met the man several times through the years and he was always above board and cordial to me, and for that I am appreciative. He was/is an outstanding football coach and molder of young men, and he will be sorely missed. I wish he, and his family the best in their future. I have known Jeff Brothers since I was 8 years old and their search should start and stop there. He's a true Brentwood Academy guy and he's still young and would be there a long time. Brian Rector would be a great candidate, but he's doing such great things over on Wilson Pike that it would be a shame for him to leave for that job for the reasons that I will bring up in a moment.

However, I have to admit that a lot of what BA accomplished in the late 1980's, into the mid-1990's is a bit tarnished in my eyes. Its not all their fault, because similar things happened at Riverdale (talking about a pot calling the kettle black Rankin) and Hoover, AL, but there was certainly some "player steering" going on from at least one junior pro football system in Southern Davidson County into the Brentwood Academy pipeline that I am directly aware of. I mean, it was blatant!! There were holdbacks of kids when they got enrolled there for "maturing" and other issues. As I have always said, it isn't just coincidence that the Antioch's, Hillsboro's, and Brentwood High's started having a lot of success as soon as the BA-TSSAA suit hit around 1997. BHS didn't ever win more than 5 games in a season between 1985-1997, as far as I know. With that said, I hate this stinking watered down split, and I wish somebody smart at the TSSAA (insert joke here______) would reunite the divisions under 4 classes (we might be big enough for 5 classes now, but it was a reach when they did this 10 years ago) with a 1.5 multiplier, but watch these privates like a hawk on the financial aid side.

Now, I admit that I am a proponent of public schools, so I am a bit biased, but the BA's of the world did a lot of damage to public schools in general, and public school sports in particular. I'm jealous of the days when our father's played high school ball at Central, Cameron, Cumberland, Antioch, Overton, Hillsboro, Madison, DuPont, Pearl, East, Litton, Hermitage, and the list goes on with the guys they went to church with and lived down the street from. These public schools used to be woven into a fabric of the community and were something that all people, rich or poor, black or white, could unite and support on Friday's in the fall. White flight (kids read up on that for social understanding) and the establishment of these "Christian educational systems" in the 1970's have absolutely killed the public educational system in this country. I can't blame the parents for wanting their kids to have a better learning environment, but maybe this vigor should have been utilized to better the public school systems that these same parents were products of.

I don't mean to get too political about it, but I hope you all understand where I'm coming from. I have no qualms with Carlton Flatt, the man, and I wish him the best in whatever he decides to do. He has worked his butt off to be a success and the mission was accomplished!!!! My concerns are more with the system as a whole, than it is with Coach Flatt. Coach Flatt just used the system to his advantage, and there is ultimately nothing wrong with that. Good Luck Coach!!!

You got waayy political and just plain wrong when you attributed the sorry state of public education to white flight and "Christian educational systems". Those are the results of the education establishment (NEA), Federal government and ACLU screwing up public education. The breakdown of the nuclear family contributed mightly. An ancillary effect is that the only schools that can effectively discipline children (or that's what all my public school teacher friends tell me) are private and as we all know one of the most important attributes that successful teams have in common is desciplined athletes.

  16. They are elected, and it seems to be for a lifetime. They protect the journey to the national convention with strong conviction.

And you know if you're the principal at Polk County, a trip to Atlantic City is the trip of a lifetime. Not to mention being able to stick it to the big bad privates on a regular basis.

  17. I dont' see McCallie knocking on Ooltewah's door..... All I hear is how Ooltewah won't play McCallie. Is McCallie trying to play Ooltewah?

That's because you haven't been hanging around the principal's office. Yeah, McCallie regularly drives to Alcoa, Knoxville, Niceville, FL because they don't want to play Ooltewah. This coming year would be a great one to schedule McCallie. The cupboard is bare. Ooltewah wins by 20 and you don't have to worry about getting embarrassed befrore the playoffs.

  18. I was in the student section at Carmichael (pre Dean Dome). The students started chanting Bull**** Bull*****. Dean Smith called a timeout. Went to the PR system and announced that UNC students didn't do that.

On the other hand that would be one of the few chants that Dukies do that you could post on a family website.

    Smith was all class.

  19. The year Red Bank won the state championship, they rented a billboard on Dayton Boulevard and put a team picture on it. That was school and town pride. When McCallie won state the rented a billboard on Dodds Avenue and placed a picture of the state championship team on it that ,no doubt, was recruiting.
