  1. Do the Cats have a few disipline problems? In the game I saw a certain starter and the coach got into it after the player seemed to try to sub himself back in after receiving a yellow card. After coach directed him to the bench he tore off his

jersey. A kind faculty member helped calm the player and he came back in later. Is this the same coach ya'll had last year? Where is the Hispanic coach?

  2. I agree Sball; it was if CSAS really did not understand what kind of effort was required to beat a good team like Grace. I felt like CSAS players too often tried to beat defenders by dribbling instead of tapping it back, switching the field, etc. On the other hand teammates weren't looking for passes, finding spaces, etc. How many times did Grace send harmless longballs downfield? Their midfielders had little pressure from defenders much of the time but would send it long instead of getting numbers downfield.

Grace is big and strong and their syle will beat weaker teams. CSAS has good foot skills overall, and their style of play will likewise serve them well against weaker teams. Young CSAS has more room for improvement, but coach Rivers is the man for the job.

  3. He needs to lighten up for his senior season. He has so much support around him this year, all he has to do is let his skills make the rest of the team better. Even if Soddy somehow didn't make the Fling, he still ought to be able to say this season was the most fun he ever had playing soccer.

  4. Both teams have represented the region in the substate the last two years but are young and don"t seem like they "know how to win" close games. If they listen to their coaches and are dedicated to becoming winners, they'll be fine at season's end. CCS wins 2-1.

  5. Grace's midfield is strong and physical. But they lack the foot skills to possess and work the ball into the offensive third and will simply launch the long ball all day instead. ND, on the other hand, will utilize short passes to posses and tire Grace's midfield resulting in late scores. ND wins 3-1.

  6. Rigger: Pedro never coached any of the kids you named {with the exception of Kip Smith who played for PSA for several months.} Many of those kids ended up playing for the 86 Redoubt Generals. Pedro's 84s and 83s each won a state championship in the late 90's, I think. I believe Mckenzie's 85 Assualt team won a championship in 99?

But your probably right; no Chattanooga 85 or 86 team won a championship from 2000 on. Diadora eliminated Pedro's PSA 86Tornados in the 2002 state final.

Changing the subject {I beat it to death}, Mtnman's predictions seem right on to me. Will high school soccer please get here soon?

  7. Good lord Rigger! you obviously don't care for Pedro, but it must be for other reasons because you don't have your facts straight.

    He coached 83's 84's and 86'

There was not a push to have him control select soccer. In fact, Chattanooga FC did not have him coaching. He is somewhat of a loner and his reputation must be the reason he has any teams.

The 86's had two or three hispanic kids playing at different times but they had a hard time filling out their roster without them. Two of the kids now play up the road at Bryan College. I know of no other Dalton kids that have played with him since.

Until they folded in 2003 they were eliminated in the semis or finals by the Impact{your boys} in 1999-2002. It was a rare day when any TN team could beat the Impact.

By the way, only one Baylor and one Mcallie player was on that team.

Your bias against Pedro Kozak is rooted in other reasons.

  8. Out of 8 teams in the A/AA state tournament, 7 were private schools.

Out of 4 teams in the A/AA semi-finals, 4 were private schools.

The championship game was between 2 private schools.

Soccer is just another sport that is being taken over in the smaller division by the private schools.

CSAS, Lenoir City, Sheffield were all public schools. Isn't Westview also public? Check your facts.

  9. I watched some film of the game tonight. The player shouting at the ref was NOT #26 because the offender had his jersey on and #26 had pulled his off after being ejected. His number is not important and I'm not sure he even played.

#3 WAS pointing at the scoreboard after the pk because two guys hit him from either side and knocked him down as the shot was struck. Don't know why unless it was retaliation or intimidation.

  10. If #3 was running his mouth, I hope he got his money's worth because Fairview took out their frustrations directly on him at the end of the game. Both red cards came after he was victimized. The last after a player took him down from behind away from the action. The first red was comical. As time was expiring #3 begin to stall by sheilding the ball while it sat in Fairview's corner. After camplaining it was illegal [is it?] a player finally rushed him and knocked him down. A free kick was awarded and #3 seemed to ask for 10 yards with the Yellowjackets questioning why they had to move back as the clock ran down. Play started and the same sequence happened again! Play is restarted and this time three guys sprinted from 10 yards out trying to get to him first and the winner made no play on the ball sending #3 flying through air. Result: the first red card. The second red came a few moments later when someone finally ran around #3 and tapped the ball up the field. As play went the other way, the second red happened with more time elapsing.

Being a Chattanooga soccer fan I've always thought this center ref is pretty bad. But Fairview got frustrated and forgot to play soccer for the last 15 minutes. Also CSAS made them chase pass after pass which caused them to lose their composure.

The officials must have felt it necessary to watch the teams shake hands but it would have been better if they had left the field insted. A few players started after the refs as they left but the CSAS principal [6'5" 255lbs] stepped in front of the players. The ref did turn around and take a step or two toward the players but was encouraged by the linesmen to leave. Students and the principal said the "N" word was yelled. As they left a player was screaming at the top of his lungs "YOU stink, YOU stink". THeir coach did restrain somebody placing his hand over their mouth.

I've seen equally bad situations and I'm sure the team will talk about how to give themselves a better chance of winning under similar circumstances if the future.
