1. Sorry, missdirected. I'm trying to figure out this "shame" concept for being truthfull.

    825579143

I think one of Matt's uncles (Joe Morales or Bubba Donnelly) must have beat this guy back in the "old days" :D cause he sure seems to dislike the Moraleses. Or was it Matt that beat his son? Or both?!

I believe I have you figured out and I fear you are affiliated with a (fellow Catholic) school in Chattanooga. This makes your comments even sadder if you are a Notre Dame supporter, for us Catholics should show respect to everyone, but especially each other.

And what "truths" sir have you spoken? You have cut my aunt down, my cousin, and continue to post (which we all think is quite funny) and ramble how they are whining and saying that they are inferring that the other 140's are inferior and are having pity parties and the like. You obviously have a very bitter taste in your mouth with life on top of....not reading very well, for I do not see where any of these things you are saying exist.

Please....do us all a favor and go hang out on some other post where you belong, only nice people reside here thumb

  2. The entire subject of this string that you are "heart broken" because Matt got beat sooner rather than later is one of the more peculiar topics. First, by even bringing up your contention that had Matt been seeded higher, he would have ended up in the finals is disrepectful to the other wrestlers in his bracket. Second, there is not a perfect "seeding" scheme that will not leave someone disappointed. And while in, general, like most everyone else I know I am more than sympathetic to heart broken mommas, I'm not going to get my shorts in a wad because someone's momma doesn't like the results of an athletic event.

    825578924

Kate....the dude ain't worth it. As you have stated in earlier posts he is mean and vengeful for absolutely no reason.

I guess you've pushed some sort of button of his for he sure has kept up with this post.

It is easy to be a "ghost writer" and say junk to good people with the feeling that no repercussion will be made against them cause no one knows who he is. At least you have the guts Kate to sign your name to something you believe in...

And yes OHB, I HAVE said who I am on here before....

  3. This whole thread is dismissive of all the wrestlers in the second bracket. Are we to assume them all to be potted plants? Do we just assume that Morales would have ended up in the finals had be he been seeded second? That's some serious conjecture! There is one fact that was determined on Saturday and that is Cody Cleveland was the best 140 DII wrestler.

I hope when Matt was wrestling Cody his mind was on the task at hand and not on his seeding.

    825576734

Regarding the lower bracket where the #2 and #3 seeds were, Matt had already beaten the #2 seed twice this season and pinned him in the state tournament. In the finals when Cody teched his unseeded opponent I think it's safe to assume Matt would have beat him as well.

The # 3 did not place in the tournament and Matt pinned the #5 seed. Matt wrestled three of the other four seeded opponents.

She has stuck her neck out to simply say that seedings should maybe be re- worked and you have to go and cut Matt down and her.

And of course, she isn't demeaning the other wrestlers. She is one of the nicest most caring individuals you'll ever run across. I doubt OHB that the other wrestlers in the 140 bracket had the record in '05 that Matt did.

Matt had the task of beating Cody on his mind, that's an real nice jab as well. Have a good Monday, Old Has Been.

  4. At my age I ought to know more than rationalize with a distraught mom with sick kids but if this is the kind of thing that's going to haunt you for the rest of your life, you better rethink whether sports are a good idea for the rest of your kids.

    825575578

    Oldhasbeen,

You have no idea what you're talking about. This family has very well rounded athletic children and all four of them have a great attitude.

I have seen Kate and Mike refuse to allow their kids to do AAU and stuff like that because they DO NOT WANT to be TOO COMPETIVE like a lot of these parents. They opt for family vacations and things over a sporting event.

If you do not think that there have not been countless people who have regrets with some "moments" in thier lives, then OHB you must have lived under a rock.

Matt is sad, Kate is sad, Mike is sad, and sisters, etc... HOWEVER, tomorrow they will get up and Matt will be his same old great self, Kate, Mike and Kids too. I am sure what Kate meant when she said "haunt them the rest of their lives" was more of a rhetorical statement. Believe me, they know Matt is not defined by solely his wrestling skills. He is president of his senior class at Ryan, he is involved with his church a bunch, he is a track star, he is loved by all who have ever met him.

DO NOT respond to posts where you are giving a DIG AT SOMEONE, especially someone who is already down. It's folks like you that made Aunt Kate so hesitant to speak up this morning, but she really wanted to. She told me on the phone she knew people would end up being mean in some form or fashion.

  5.

There are not enough head-to-head matches in each and every weight class to do it any other way.

Matt is a great wrestler and is the 2nd best DII wrestler at 140.  He got his shot at Cleveland.  All you are talking about is the difference between 2nd and 3rd.

To respond to the above quotes; first; you are correct there are NOT enough head to head matches in Dll. What's that about???? Why don't they wrestle each other like when I wrestled. If my schedule reads correctly Fr. Ryan wrestled 2, I repeat 2 Divll teams all season.

Secondly; Your quote saying it is just a difference between 2nd and 3rd. A great athlete always reaches for the highest achievement possible.

And I take it you have never been in a finals match. That in itself is a rush and full of the pomp and circumstance. Mrs. Morales is trying to make this point and I know exactly what she is saying. And don't think she doesn't know what she's talking about either, she KNOWS her wrestling, she taught me stuff when I was a kid about it.

  6. Kate,

You are right, it's a shame and maybe a sham. Congratulations to Matt, he had a great tournament pinning four out of five of his opponents; probably more pins than anyone in the tournament. As it turned out, the seeding at 140 was not how it wrestled out, the 2 seeds above him losing, and an unseeded wrestler made it into the finals from the lower bracket. If the coahes in DII really want accurate results they need to fine tune their criteria.

  7.

Bottom man---------------oldhasbeen is referring to the late 60's and early seventies when Ryan and NDHS was one of the best high school wrestling rivalries in the state, with these two teams swapping state titles four years in a row---- ND won in 68 and 70, Ryan in 69 and 71. Inseason they would wrestle on a Sunday afternoon, with the two teams going to mass together just before they tried to kill each other on the mat.

    response from fatkat

Bottom man is my uncle and he was THERE RASSLIN in that stinky gym. He and his brother were state champs and his brother in law (kill bubba kill!) for Fr.Ryan. He WAS that team along with Pat Simpson and many others. I don't think he needs any education about the late 60's early 70's rivalry with ND, but thanks for the memories anyway...... thumb Or maybe he does....he IS getting pretty old

  8. congratulations to MBA beating FRHS. TO be hoenst I do not have as much faith in the Irish as past. DIfferent team with a bad attitude. Not to talk trash about them though.

Your screen name Father Ryan Wrestling.....that's some name you've chosen there. It is very disheartening to read such negative remarks about a school in which you obviously have a love for. I have been watching these young men off and on all season. I personally know several.

I have never once witnessed a bad attitude. They are hard working, God fearing, wonderful young men. How can you say this? What actions have they shown to you that deems you to say they have a bad attitude?

Like the poster before me said; Ryan has such limitations compared to all the other D2 schools. Their weight room is the size of most people's closets, Fr. Ryan's money is very lilmited, they pay for their own warm ups and stuff, I personally think they have great spirit, pride, and attitude. And Coach Schoen (sp?) is a great addition to Ryan wrestling. He is superb in his knowledge and attitude, and you can tell he truly loves those wrestlers. Coach Simp is an icon at FRHS.

Please be careful using such harsh accusations in the future. These are all great guys and everyone of them cares about each other and their team and their school.

Take care and good luck to all the guys this weekend in Clarksville! Go IRISH!

  9. I didnt say that the Ryan kid slammed him intentionally. No way did he do that.  But, a slam does not have to be intentional. Anytime you lift your opponent off the mat, you are responsible for his safe return.  You could drop the guy, intentionally or not, and its still a slam. But remember, in this situation it was all for not because Ryan won that match anyways.

mmmmmm.....Im a jerk? because I only know the names of the kids who have parents who have been in wrestling in Tennessee a long time????? I dont hang out at high school practices like you know who.

Does anyone know if the 171 punder from MBA and Ryan had wrestled before last friday? If so, what was the outcome?

    825544144

    Stovepiper Man,

I am not an aggresor. I am a a peaceful guy. I don't like confrontation. I just know Matt and his style......saying you only know the "famous ones" was a TOTAL PUTDOWN" to all the guys that go to practice day in and day out just like Dunning does and sweats the blood and tears. That was MEGA TACKY of you to say.

I know wrestling. I have been around it and my family has just as long, if not longer, than our dear friends the Simpsons and Dunnings...........so don't go there dude....it ain't right.

  10. Jordan Leen is having a great freshman year at Cornell.  So far he has gone 14-11 in tournament and dual matches and has been in with the best in the country.  Although he has lost decisions to Teyon Ware (12-4) and Cory Cooperman (8-2) he just upset 16th ranked Doug McGraw (Penn) and earlier this year gave Nate Gulosh (Navy, #17) all he could handle at the Southern Scuffle.  He also beat highly regarded Tommy Owen of Minnesota at the same tournament.

Of note, he defeated Spencer Manley (3-1) who is currently wrestling at Navy.  Manley himself has had a respectable year going somehting like 6-6 although he has not been in with the caliber of wrestlers that Leen has.  Manley will have a shot to start at 141 next year for the Mids.  Patrick Simpson beat Leen 4-1 in competition earlier this year but Leen looks to have a higher upside than the younger Simpson at this point.  If Leens wins out in the Cornell room over Charlie Aggozzino and Mat Easter he will have his chance to make his mark at the EIWA tournament in March.

    825543918

Great for Leen, I would of loved to have seen the Manley match! However, Patrick Simpson recently won the New York state championship, so his upside is looking pretty bright.

  11. Here are my thoughts:

I haven't posted on this thing in a long time. I haven't really even looked at this thing in a long time. I haven't even really followed wrestling as closely this year as I have during the course of my life. But I read this entire thread from start to this point and honestly it makes me sick.

I am embarrassed by many immature comments from McCallie fans, and I am irked buy fans from Baylor side who make bogus statements. I wasn't able to attend the big match Friday; it's the first one I have missed in my life that I can remember. But it sounds like it was another classic epic battle. Both sides always have their guys ready to go. And when people get on here and start casting judgments, making bogus biased comments, and just flat out representing their respective sides with a mincing degree of immaturity it takes away from sport and it takes away from the accomplishments of these young men who put themselves and their dignity on the line out there in front of thousands of fans and peers.

I can tell you from my experience, and I'm sure any wrestler from Baylor, McCallie, or anywhere that wrestled when I did or before me will tell you the same thing, that wrestling is not just the toughest sport physically but also mentally and emotionally. I was nervous every time I stepped out on the mat. I was risking a lot by being out there, we all did. For me it was even twice as hard having my dad, Gordon Connell, as my coach. Everyone expected me to win. But the thing is, AS NERVOUS AS I WAS; I WAS HAVING THE TIME OF MY LIFE. (I'm also having the "time of my life" up here at U.T. now haha). But in all seriousness I think about what wrestling meant for me and what it has done for me. I'm sure all of you old timers and guys like me who are just out of the mix of things will agree that it did much to shape you into the person you are today.

In reply to the comment about my father's quote in the newspaper...I talked to my dad last night and he was very irritated by it. He was extremely misquoted. You all know how that goes. It happens. He really said something about how so many of the individual matches could have gone both ways and how that could make a difference in the final outcomes of the matches if they were to wrestle some 10 times or so. Sometimes when my dad talks he goes off on tangents and it becomes hard to follow him. I know this because not only have I lived with him my whole life but I also had him as an 8th grade science teacher and many can attest to this statement. Haha sorry dad.

Baylor fans lay off my dad and stick to supporting your tough young men like Dan Waddell (very impressive win by the way), Corey Manson, Ben Johnson, etc. And McCallie fans I'm disappointed many of your immature comments as well. Praise these young men who are actually in the arena doing the hard work and putting it all on the line in front of peers, fans, friends, and family.

People, have fun on here. Make your comments. But check yourself at the door. This is a great sport, highly respected. Two great teams Baylor and McCallie, with two extremely respected programs both currently and historically.

Congratulations to an impressive win Baylor and Congratulations to my brother wrestlers and former teammates at McCallie for a hard fought well represented match. Can't wait to come down for the State in February!

    825543882

Great letter Lee. You have an awesome family.

  12. First off, I dont know any of the wrestlers or their names, besides the "famous" ones (Simpson and Dunning) so i think ryan kid and mba kid will work.

Second, in an outside cradle, where does the knee go? In the side! What was Pat Simpson yelling for the "ryan kid" to do? Put his knee in the side! What prevented the pin? The knee under the back. Where was the Ryan kid's knee? Not in the side. Sure there may have been other factors, but technique gets you a long way. I will admit the Ryan Kid is good at getting the cradle in, nice long arms and good set up, but the attention to details wins the big matches.

I will be happy to have a cradle clinic any time, just ask and pay the fee.

    825543132

    You're a jerk

  13. Lesson learned from the Ryan/MBA match....

When working an outside cradle, the offensive wrestler's bottom knee goes in the hip and not under the back thereby blocking your opponent's shoulder from touching the mat. This cost Ryan the match.

and the "slam" was a slam, he drove dude down with his shoulder in the sternum, land squarely on top of his chest, shoulder first. All the Ryan kid had to do was hit a knee first. When you hit a knee first you come down slow and under control and are in a better position to rest your opponent right on his back. But the Ryan kid won anyways so it didnt matter.

What an awesome match to watch, regardless of who won.

    825543087

Oh okay....well thank goodness you were there to explain to all of us morans. And the Ryan "kid" has a name, he's one of the best "kids" you'll ever meet....Matt Morales.

  14. My family says it was the best $3.00 they have spent in a long time. Kudos to both Coach Simpsons on entertaining alot of great folks on a Friday night in Nash Vegas....I hear "all" the boys gave it their all and a great time was had by all. As Napolean Dynamite would say......."Luckyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy" Wish I had been there!

  15. There is no question Whitt Dunning. He "surgically" dissects his opponents like a masterful surgeon. He is ONE of the most talented wrestlers I have ever had the priviledge to watch over many years.

This is not to take away from Nick Marable. However, I see it as brute strength vs. a PHD/MD in manhandling. Whitt by far the best wrestler in the state of Tennessee.

  16. Not counting eggs.

    Just looking at facts.

Look at the results from McCallie, Father Ryan and Brentwood. Based on these tournament finishes, no contest.

    825523716

I so agree, Cody is a stud and a defending champion, no doubt about it.

Morales was not in the B'wood tourney, Clevland did not win the McCallie tourney, Fr.Ryan tourney Morales fought back like heck and came in third. Morales won the CBHS tourney in his weight class this past weekend and he was very sick at the McCallie tourney. (I know this website is brutal...you all will say "I am making excuses for him")

Look.....Cody has BEEN the man since he was like six years old it seems, everyone KNOWS he's very, very talented. I didn't bring this up YOU did.

I am just saying there is always someone hungrier, thirstier knocking on your door. I think Matt and Cody would be a great match to see and good luck to both of those fine young men.

  17. I saw where Cody Cleveland wrestled 140 at Brentwood. Not sure where he is wrestling at the State but I would think as of right now, he would be the hands down favortie at 140.

    825523560

Don't count your eggs before they're hatched my friend.

  18. Fatkat if you want to correct the freshman do it in a less public forum..I personally do not want to jinx the team by predicting..it will be a tuff tourny

    825509720

    Mr. Mayo,

First of all...what "predicting" have I done? You have some nerve to talk about saying what one thinks on a public forum. I was taught to respect my elders, so this I will. My response is just like an older brother telling his younger brother to keep his mouth shut "for his own good" and to wait your turn in life for things. Sometimes younger ones need that ya know.

For you to get so upset over my comment telling a freshman to cool his jets and not do so much talking, I think is weird. It is condesending of you to think I do not realize that the freshman are a part of the Ryan team.

We are both Ryan supporters. I don't think YOU NEED TO CORRECT ME in a public forum. I was not adressing you in the first response to the freshman young man, but you felt compelled to respond to me in a stabbing way anyway. You, my friend, are not the official voice of Ryan wrestling.

We obviously both have Irish blood and let's just agree to disagree on some of our thoughts. Of course I wish the Irish well this weekend and if I can make it in town I will buy you a diet coke.

  19. My Irish Brethren lets play nice..the freshman play a big role in our success........as for admissons, diet cokes, popcorn and others I am in. Just stay  outside in the parking lot till I come out and get you. Even if it seems like your waiting a long long long long time..be patient. And if I do not show up before sunday morning.  well just go home .. because something may have gone wrong....Sorry

Upfront a sincere thanks to all the teams that are attending. Having travelled a lot this year it is nice to be home. May God bless your travels and keep your atheletes healthy.

P.S. Bless My Beloved Irish ................now LETS GET IT ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    825509666

"Let's play nice"? How bout "let's not be cocky"

  20. He may hate the CoachT..but he loves the Irishdad!!! Cuz you really do not need to make excuses for Matthew. He was in one of the toughest brackets at the tourny. He did just fine and continues to improve with every match.

    825494042

I find that offensive, even though I am sure you don't mean it to be, Matt needs no excuses believe me, just letting the readers know his situation. I think you've told people your son has been ill before, no?
