Yeahhh looking at the box score. It wasnt near the same lineup they had for FR.

This point in the season, against a team they wouldnt see in the post season. Its clear the dual didnt really mean a whole lot.

Unless you're suggesting MBA has a better team than Father Ryan?

No.  They may well be though, we'll know at the state tournament.  Ryan was missing 3-4 starters against Summit.  Summit may have been missing some too.  Just pointing out the absurdity of pre tournament rankings.  Makes for interesting board banter, but it will all shake out at state.

  2. I am sure Derek will have some input on the kids program, not sure that it needs much of a ramping up though!  That program has been plenty successful and appears to be poised to continue to do so.  However, always open to your feedback on what you think we could do better... should be interesting.

Probably important to keep in mind that the TWF's focus really isn't youth wrestling, it is spring and summer freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling.  They have chosen to leave the youth wrestling stewardship in TN to the TNAAU.

Hey, just gathered he'd be involved since it is such a big part of his resume:

Harrison devotes much of his time away from King to multiple northeast Tennessee youth wrestling programs as both a coach and administrator. He serves as the assistant coach for Team Tornado Wrestling Club College Division and is the head coach for Team Tornado Wrestling K-12 Division, both positions he has held since 2009. Between the two programs, Harrison works with boys ages 8-18 and teaches Freestyle, Greco, and Folkstyle wrestling.

But glad to hear you think y'all are all squared away and don't need his help.  More time to devote to getting the High School ready.

    5. Logan Whiteside (Cleveland)

Man, that Logan Whiteside must be some bad dude.

  4. Nick was the first ever double fargo champ from TN and is going to the OTC. That's pretty stinkin credentialed too.

SCOTT WELLS … Brentwood Academy … 2x state champ; 1998-99 … ’98 OW … 4x cadet national champion at Fargo; 2x in Greco/Roman and 2x in Freestyle … undefeated two seasons in Tenn.

  5. Nashville Catholic Wrestling starts this Sunday, October 18.  Practices are Sunday 4:30-6:30 and Monday/Wednesday 5:30-7:15.  Practices are currently held at Father Ryan High School.  Open to any boys grade 5-8.  For more information please visit www.nashvillecatholicwrestling.com

Chalifoux defeates Sherman 14-4.   Match was tied 4-4 well into second period when Chalifoux shot around same time as Sherman.  Sherman injured his knee in process.  Used all of his injury time but decided to try to continue with Chalifoux winning 6-4.  From then on Chaifoux was able to score as needed to complete the tech.

Now one win shy of AA and will face 18th ranked Dalton Duffield of Oklahoma who earlier in the tournament teched TN's Navarro 10-0.

Duffield won the Greco-Roman tournament a few days ago but was beaten by Jack Mueller of Texas (#2 ranked nationally at 120) 13-2 in the championships.  Duffield did not place last year but was the wrestler who injured / pinned Elijah Oliver in Fargo last year.  Duffield was OK state runner-up this year to national #1 at 120 and #2 pound-for-pound Daton Fix.

Two big wins for Chalifoux there.

  7. Your charging your own kids to attend a wrestling practice? The reason I ask, most schools doing the "fight nights" are not charging. Im shocked Bradley Central would charge kids in the area to come and wrestle just to benefit its booster club.

Seriously?  First two posts and this is what you bring?   An easy fix for you, don't go.  Personally, I think $10 a month is way cheap to take advantage of that room.

  8. Thank you for the feedback! I've been watching the website bit hadn't seen anything posted. I do have one other question. I have an older son that's in 8th grade that will wrestle for his school in Metro and won't be finished til the first of the year, I know sounds crazy but metro is odd at times. Could I bring him out as well? Ryan would be closer for us than Lebanon where we have been going. It's my 8 year olds 5th year of wrestling and we just want something closer where he can still progress and learn. My whole family has been in that program or a part of it in some way and we would like too as well!

    Absolutely.  Love to have him.

  9. Any idea when club will sign up? We have wrestled in Wilson Co in the past but we plan to stay in Davidson Co and want to be a part of a club a little closer! Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Also, does a kid have to be a part of a Catholic School to wrestle with your team?

NCW club is for boys k-8 and sign up is November 30 @ 4:30 in the Father Ryan wrestling room.  You do not have to be a member of the Catholic school system to participate on either the club or the middle school team.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions

  10. We would love to have then.....one more spot if Wilson Central is in

Nashville Catholic starts October 19.  We won't know if we have enough wrestlers to fill a complete, or near complete, lineup until then.  It would not be fair to you guys to commit and then find out a month later that we can only fill 7 weight classes.  If we can field a team, and you still have openings, we'd be glad to attend.

  11. From an article in the Tennessean today on Jashon Robertson.

"Wrestling works wonders," Robertson said. "I've seen guys on my team in high school who had a year or two of wrestling, and they came on the football field a totally different player. It helps with your balance, hands, just leverage, everything. It perfectly relates to football, especially the mental aspect of it. There's something about getting off your back — when somebody has you on your back — and being down in the fourth quarter that completely correlates, that mind-set you have to fight and get up."

Add Robertson to hundreds of football players who have played in college and the pros that credit wrestling with helping them get there.

  12. From the Tennessean article on Jashon Robertson, their freshman offensive lineman.
