  1. This is very correct. Both Bonds and Allsmiller are going to play at a level where they have a chance to be successful. Allsmiller has nowhere near the athleticism needed to guard anyone in the SEC. He is an excellent shooter and will be able to help GA Southern off the bench. Nothing wrong with that. Bonds is undersized and a set-shooter. His skill set will be fine at Liberty, but not the SEC. Again, nothing wrong with that. The problem lies in the propaganda machine that likes to say that so and so is getting Major college looks when they are more like a "glance" than a "look". This makes an impression on young teens who all think they are destined for the NBA. Preying on their emotions rather than the cold hard truth. I remember how Craig Bradshaw was "destined for Vandy" when he came to CPA. Instead he ended up right where he needed to be at Belmont. He goes to Belmont whether he plays at Cpa OR Greenbrier. That is where is skill-set is best suited. No need to trump him into something he is/was not. And yet.......................... Blackwell has a chance to be a very good........or a decent D1 player. How hard he works on his weaknesses will determine that, not how many twitters a high school coach sends out. If Johnny Jones and Kevin Stallings keep offering some of these lower tier guys they will be the next Buzz Petersons in the SEC, aka looking for another job.
  2. What will they do when those girls leave? They will simply drive over to Lebanon High and get another girl to transfer after she has been practicing with the Blue Devils in the summer and then wait for Coach Fryer to kick off a couple of chemistry wreckers for not buying into the program. It is their recipe for building a program. That should get them to the sub-state again. The biggest problem facing Bud is the fact that Lebanon has a real coach now. It won't be as easy to cherry-pick anymore. Wilson Central had the most individual talent to ever play together in WIlson County. More than the Susie Gardner/Lori Gross/Kim Satterfield/Bingham/Volcano days at MJ and definitely more than the '71 Lebanon state champs under Campbell.
  3. I guess YOUR middle name is "wrong". Or maybe "5sport "I don't know who my". Eligibility concerns
  4. It is rumored that star guard C.J. Davis pulled out of Goodpasture High School and tranferred to non-TSSAA school Pioneer Christian last week. It is also rumored that the NCAA has dispatched an investigator to look into the "sudden" emergence of Pioneer Christian basketball including allegations that a 6'7" player from Arkansas is living with a "host" family in order to play there. In other news, the G.P.A. of the Goodpasture graduating class of 2007 jumped suddenly last week from 2.7 to 3.3. The Pioneer Christian G.P.A. is a sparkling 4.0 for every student registered in the last three months.
  5. Shawn Marion was good at Clarksville, but nowhere near the talent that he is now. He went to UNLV after two years in juco. Ron Mercer was ranked anywhere from #2-6 depending on the source. Brandon is about the same. Some rank him higher, some lower. There is no one definitive ranking system so it is really a moot point.
  6. The REALLY sad part is that you have TWO names that you post under on here Mr. Guns 4......oops zmansdad. Oh yeah, Master's +30 here. So what? I LOVE my job. Every minute of every day. Does that mean that I try to act like them or dress like them? Of course not. Does it mean that I am therefore old and decrepit? Wrong again. I lift and run with them every day. I put 90% of them to shame. So what? I interact with over one hundred kids a day and yet I never felt the need to say "crunk". I guess that is a little quirk with educators. We try to teach them proper English instead of Ebonics. You may hear the cook at McDonalds say "crunk", but I am confident it will not be uttered in a meeting with the people who OWN those McDonalds. You can communicate with today's youth without using slang. It happens every day all over the world. Now go register another name so you can "dis" me.
  7. Get off your cross boy, somebody else needs the wood. I teach and coach these same kids that you speak of. I never said anything about how they would end up. If anything, I said that we all went through it when we were young. Some of us went ahead and grew up. What it sounds like to me is you can't let go and realize your time is past. If teaching is a white collar job then I guess that is me. Sounds like you are a little jealous of those white collar guys. Since you were in the class of '85 (assuming that you did graduate), what were the big slang words then? I guess you go around saying "rad" and "tubular" while you are wearing your members only jacket and O.P. shirt. You are about as sad as Young MC busting his move on the Celebrity Fit Club. Dude, you are 39? Let it go.
  8. Yeah, those crunked-up fans are the groovy bees knees. Don't worry junior, when you get a little older you will understand why these "old guys" think that crunk sounds stupid. Every generation has their own slang terms and each one thinks the other's sound stupid. In 15-20 years you will be driving down the road listening to Kanye on the oldies station and wondering why you used to use the word crunk when it sounds so stupid. Youth is wasted on the young.
  9. Kristi King hit one for Hillwood about 245ft in the air. The fence is 227ft.
  10. Pot calling the kettle black, Goldbolt. Shadow, like you I am always lurking around here. It is nice to see you back hanging around Metro instead of Lebanon these days. Now, for the real "inside stuff". First off, Arnett either has to finally pass the NTE or he will have to move on AGAIN after next year. He already coached Antioch's freshman football team this past fall. He will be begging his 2nd daddy Tribue to get him that job. I hear Ms. Bess does like him. Everyone knows that the Antioch cluster has the greatest abundance of talent in Metro. Talent can make a weak coach look better. Just like lack of talent can make a good one lose his job. I can see Doc entertaining the Antioch position just because of his ego, but guys lets face it. If those kids wouldn't put up with the discipline that Mangrum tried to put in, do you really think they would put up with Doc's dog and pony show? Ty Wilson is one of doc's 47 assistants in charge of recruiting. Pearl only has one feeder and is down to 700 students since they bussed them all over to Hillwood. Eligibility is always an issue there after their freshman year (unless they play football). Doc already has at least HG Hill, McKissack and East Literature middle schools being worked hard by his "assistants" since he loses an ABUNDANCE of talent to graduation this year and his last two freshman classes have had one player each that could ever be a decent high school player. Lawrence Haywood has done a good job at the middle school level. Is he ready for a Varsity job? I don't know. Mike Davis will not get the job unless Garcia has a lapse of memory. Darren Joines has done a good job at Beech, but guys this year is the first year he made it out of the district tourney. His best players are back next year and he will not leave. Besides, his "day job" at Beech is a little more to his liking than what he would have in Metro. Troy Bond loses A LOT of players at Wilson Central (I think maybe 8 or 9). He could handle the type of kids he would have at Antioch and probably do well. However, he is a homer in Wilson County and not in Davidson. Troy Allen would be a great choice at Antioch.....if he was serious about wanting the job which I doubt. He is in a MUCH weaker district from top to bottom. 12AAA is a dog fight every night. Here is the final say for now...The Pearl job will be decided before Antioch. It is really not the job everyone wants or it used to be. I believe it will be Haywood. The Antioch job will be decided in an office at 3150 McGavock Pike. Goldbolt, if you think he doesn't have that much say so in this, then you are the one needing therapy. All I can say is, whoever wants that job better get over there and start smoozing now. I know at least two candidates that have already made that trip. Shadow, try to keep your posse under wraps. Take two aspirins and call the DR. in the morning. Let the debate continue.
  11. And the people said AMEN!
  12. Being on the outside of this, let me make a suggestion. Current players (leigh14 etc.) should quit getting on here trying to tell everyone how much better off they are without their former teammates, especially calling out individual names. Former players (and parents) should quit getting on here telling everyone how they have been mistreated. Neither accomplishes anything more than making your school and county look even worse (if that is possible) than it already does. Since the coach is obviously still working, it must mean that they support the actions of the coach (first time for everything, eh Dan?) Current players need to let their on field accomplishments speak for them and former players need to call Ron Britt and tell him what you think. Those are the only two REALISTIC OPTIONS. Now if you want to waste further breath bashing me, that's fine, but it will only solidify what I said earlier about your school and county. Good Day.
  13. So, Ladyfirebird04, he took Hunters Lane freshman all the way last year? I thought McGavock beat MLK by forfeit for the city championship last year. I guess that means Bubba Spears (and Keith Dearing before that) should be coaching in the SEC since they won the freshman city chapionships at McGavock in 2000, 2001 and 2003. Think before speaking please.
  14. Lebanon is way down this year. Hutto picked a good time to get out. Coach Kiel does a great job and I am sure they will continue to improve and play hard, but Mt. Juliet is a very senior dominated team with a lot of experience. Having a D1 shooting guard helps as well. MJ by 12.
  15. Hillwoodfan, in all seriousness. I think you have two choices. (1) You can express your concerns directly to Coach Gamble, Coach Brown or Coach Dearing about the approach he is using or (2) Continue to get on here and anonomously question his approach without any hope of understanding what is going on other than what your son tells you. You seem like a level headed adult. Which one do you think will do the most good? The only people reading this are coaches (including retired head coaches like me) who understand what the current coach is going through and disgruntled parents that want to let off some steam without putting their name on it. Again, which approach will do the most good? You decide. As the song says, "Walk a little straighter daddy, you're leading me."
  16. Gee dad, the coach was really mean to me today. Will you get on the internet and anonymously bash him for me? Glory days, yeah they'll pass you by. Sorry Bruce.
  17. Sorry I got in here late. A couple of observations. First Redtwin, Kent Austin graduated from Brentwood Academy in 1982 so I doubt even Carlton could get away with him being on the '95 team. Paxton, we all know how proud you are of yourself and your 2001 team, but score on anyone on the planet? if your offensive system is so great then you should have had a repeat this past year. There was MORE than enough talent to do so. Get over yourself. The 1994 Riverdale team certainly had a wealth of talent. Brentwood Academy had several great teams. Memphis Melrose had a high powered team at one time. The old Oak Ridge teams were definitely ahead of their time. Old Litton and MBA fans could argue as well. It is really just comparing apples and oranges. Except for Paxton and his prunes. :justwrestle:
  18. Sassymom, I would classify myself as a head coach that knows personally every person that has been mentioned on this thread for the job. Skunk, why did Shipley leave D-B if his reign was so wonderful? I know it wasn't because of the lure of the Anderson Co. job. Why did he leave there as well?? Why did Cookeville remove him if he was so wonderful??? Why did Brentwood Academy have to have the AD sit on the bench with him for half a season???? Why has he continued to apply for every job that comes open, even though he is a head coach????? I know you are not going to tell me he is trying to move up the coaching ladder. From D-B to Centennial's girls is a bit of a drop.
  19. Mr. JGattis (yes, I know who you are). How much work study money do you receive? I doubt McPhail misses you.
  20. I'll take Pack any day over Smith. Remember Greenbrier Mr. Paxton. You are one bad recruiting class away from a repeat. Floridaboy, I hope you were kidding to say that a coach that has won ONE region championship is the best. That is a joke. Goodwin at DCA has won several and I still wouldn't put him in a class with Flatt, Rankin, Bowers, Quarles, Pack, McAdams, Martin just to name a few. SUSTAINED success puts you in a different class of coaches, not two winning seasons.
  21. Little boy blue (Shipley) quit blowing your own horn. Remember when Carlton had to sit on the bench with you at BA because the parents LIKED you so much. You sure have moved around a lot. With all that success, how come every move has been backwards? From Dobyns Bennett boys to Centennial girls is a pretty big drop. Jay Johnson will be the next coach at Franklin.
  22. When will Jason Piercey be announced as the new coach at Ezell? From all I have heard it is just a formality right now. If you didn't know, he was Presley Ramsey's assistant when they won the state championship in '98. He is currently the head coach at Friendship.
  23. The job has not been filled yet. My question is that the way Ezell-Harding fans love to blow their own horn, why is this job opening being kept so hush-hush. Most people don't even know what happened to Burnette. Tell us, oh Eagle fans what the deal is. Why the silence?
  24. Lighthouse is pulling out of the TSSAA. If the job is already filled, then why are they still meeting with interested people? And who is doing the interviewing since the former coach is also the AD?
