    Booger just sayin :D

He was very kind and helpful to me on a non-football related issue I work on.  Only met him in person that one time, but know others who have worked with him.  That constitutes my "accumulation" (sic) of data.

  2.

Well...nobody that is affiliated with DII really comments, because for better or worse, CoachT is not really very interested.  Check out the "Printable Brackets" on the home page, and you'll see what I mean.  The fact that nobody has even bothered to try and get them corrected is testament to the importance that CoachT puts on DII, and that DII puts on CoachT.

That Harding v. FRA game was pretty awesome yesterday though!

  3. Hoping folks like you will come back so we can discuss football with grown-ups again. I've said it before, the BA posters were my favorite posters here. They were insightful, articulate, classy when they lost, and gracious when they won.

I enjoyed it too. I just don't follow it closely enough anymore to have an informed opinion. ...not that said state of mind stops many from posting!

BTW, my wife and I had the pleasure of speaking to the entire MBA student body a couple of weeks ago. Very impressed with the facility as well as the young men attending.

  4. What exactly was your "point" about the grounding call??? You can't legally "ground" the ball from the "shotgun." You have to be at the line of scrimmage. So what's the point???

Well perhaps I'm mistaken then. I'm not trying to take anything away from MUS' big win. It was simply a commentary on my experiences in Memphis in the past. I have nothing but respect for MUS and their teams. Your team won. Enjoy it, and good luck against Ensworth.

  5. Sore loser....MUS handed you a 23-0 lead on a silver platter and you still lost....what exactly was your beef with the refs anyway? They allowed you to run a KO out of the end zone for a 101 yd TD...impossible in HS but it happened.

No real vested interest in the game. I don't even know any of the kids on the team. I just have been to Memphis too many times! It's actually much worse in basketball! Nor did I watch any of the game except the very end. My point was about the intentional grounding call at the end. Maybe it was a beautifully reffed game all the way up to that point.

Congrats to MUS on a big win. The QB looked really great!

  6. I still contend that the MBA field goal attempt in overtime was good. I have watched the replay many times. The ball was kicked so high it went out of the picture on the video, and BA had those stumpy short uprights. The MBA manager was standing right between the goalposts and did not have to move to catch the ball. The ref's blew that one. Of course if MBA's long snapper hadn't snapped the ball over the punters head with about a minute to go it never would have come down to that.

If I remember right, the long snapper was Tom Santi, wasn't it? One of the very few mistakes I ever saw him make! Ironically, both of his sisters were BA students.

It was a fluky win, I'll admit. MBA was more talented and experienced than BA that year for sure. The main thing most of the MBA folks were mad about at the time was the last split second field goal by BA to force the OT. I honestly don't recall any discussion about the MBA firld goal attempt in OT. But I wasn't paying much attention at that point!

  7. I'll never forget the 2003 MBA at BA game. Undefeated MBA was ranked in the top ten nationally by USA Today. A very young but talent laden BA team won by means of that last second "controversial" field goal. Sorry, my MBA friends, but it was legit. I've watched the video many times. That was MBA's only loss, and they went on to throttle BA in the state championship game. That MBA team was one of the most talented teams I've seen.

  8. No opinion on the game...haven't seen McCallie play. I will say that visiting McCallie is one thing I really miss about HS football. Great facility, great crowd. DII seems to have changed a bit lately in terms of sportsmanship and civility. McCallie is the gold standard for sportsmanship, both on the field and in the stands.

  9. There use to be a coach at BA that kept his players in till the end of the 4th qtr every game. Carlton Flatt never pulled starters till last few minutes, no matter the score.

I almost never post here anymore, but I just have to call you out on that statement. Just completely false, and anyone who followed BA football the last 10 years of Coach Flatt's creer would back that up. I don't know about earlier in his tenure, but that simply was not even close to being true in the time period that I followed them.

  10. Fellow track enthusiasts, are TSSAA track results being posted live, or must we wait until the end of the day to view them on the TSSAA website? I seem to remember a website hosting live results in the past. Thanks!

Live streaming for running events only.

  11. It's embarassing...I'm embarassed for them for writing this letter. Not just this part; the entire letter.

I'd expect nothing less from you, and the MBA people I know. I have a great deal of respect for MBA the school, the institution, and the family. This is a sad day, and you are right, the TSSAA and MBA administrators may well fool the general public, but anyone who knows anything about how these schools function has their jaw hitting the floor at this point.

MBA...the real MBA... will be just fine.

  12. To answer your last question first, Marshall Smith is the head of the BA track program. He's a BA alum who has done an excellent job getting results while winning the favor/respect of his runners. Cathy Cheeseman leads the girls' program.

Coach Flatt has been nothing but gracious to me and his wife is a saint. However, I think it's in BA's best interest to look to the future instead of the past, unless it can pull an Austin or a MacIntyre, whose credentials are impeccable. I would look for BA to explore a wide pool of candidates, many of whom are from other states. Some Tennessee names that intrigue me: Rankin (Alcoa), Quarles (Maryville), Ingle Martin (did great things at CPA in his first year...probably not ready for a job of this caliber yet though), Jeff Rutledge (was very interested last time).

Actually Wes, Brad Perry is going to be the new Track and Field Coach. Marshall is the Cross Country coach, and will continue to work with the distance runners.

  13. I think the time has come for the DII privates to leave the TSSAA. Clearly, MBA blatantly broke the rules here, but I do believe that they were trying to do the right thing by this kid. If doing the right thing for kids is against TSSAA rules, what is the upside of belonging to the organization? I see Childress' joke of a response to all this as an attempt to keep the DII schools, particularly MBA, happy and in his organization.

I am totally against blatant recruiting on a financial basis. I do believe that a new organization could set rules that make competition fair while not screwing over kids that can really be helped in all aspects of their lives by attending one of these schools.

TSSAA has watered down their "State Championships" to the point of meaninglessness. They have set rules trying to keep everyone in DI happy. They obviously make huge exceptions in enforcement when enough is at stake for them as an organization. Tell me, why stay in this organization? For the sake of students? I don't think so.

The public schools would be happy if we left. The DII schools could do a better job of setting up rules that work for all of us.

    Let's go!

  14. O

Which brings me to the final point...where have the EHS posters gone? The trash talking children have fled. They wrote checks that their classmates couldn't cash. I miss their bluster and trash talking almost as much as I miss severe rectal itch. The more thoughtful ones I miss, and I suspect the aggravation has driven them away in much the same way that it has the BA posters, who were, to man, the classiest and most informed posters on this board. I suspect that the constant unsubstantiated accusations of recruiting just made this an utterly fruiltess venture. Read the MUS-SP thread if you'rte not clear on what I mean.

Some of us still peruse the posts on occasion, my friend.

BTW, who, exactly were those "classiest and most informed" BA folks? Never met one myself.

  15. I'm from East Tennessee and their are several private schools in my area (CAK, Catholic, and Webb). I am good friends with the basketball coach at CAK and I know for a fact that he doesn't recruit. I know a freshman at Catholic that is a stud athlete in both basketball and football and he was not recruited. His parents chose Catholic for the academics and are not recieving any aid whatsoever. In fact they are paying more than the average student because they are not Catholic. In our area its the public schools that are the biggest recruiters.

Most if not all the time it won't be a coach, it will be a parent(s) or graduate. The problem lies when the school doesn't dissuade the parents from such activities.

I confused as to why a parent or graduate talking to a kid about going to a school is a problem. I would have found my private high school if it weren't for a friend of the family who told me I should go. However, if a person goes driving through a town and tries to pick up athletes and "convert" them, then that is a problem. But it shouldn't be illegal for people to talk to kids about attending their school for ANY reason. Private schools are like businesses because they don't have any kids that are required to go there, so they have to get the word out there to the good students, athletes, performers, etc., and let them know there is a school for them. Or would you rather they put up some billboards on the interstate?

If you ever attend any of the performing arts in town (TPAC, Symphony, etc.) you will see scores of ads recruiting for private schools. The public schools don't really care if scholars or artists are recruited...only athletes. That alone tells you something, doesn't it?
