Losing Relief Pitcher - Matt Senders - 3 inn - 4 runs - 0 ER - 4 hits - 3 K - 0 walks
Marion Co. scored 3 unearned runs in the bottom of the 1st as Kevin Layne reached base on a FC3 and advanced to 3rd on a infield throwing on a ball hit by Sam Griswald that should have been the third out of the inning. Nick Wilson then hit a HR to left field that also scored Layne and Griswald as Marion Co. took the early lead at 3-0.
Gibbs answered in the top of the 2nd with 5 runs as Elijah Turner started it off with a double, advanced to 3rd on a single by Matt Sanders, and both scored on a double by Dew Housewright. Housewright's CR Taylor Sawyer advanced to 3rd on a sac bunt by Travis Peters, and eventually scored on a sac fly by Elijah Bales. Ray Burchell and Jordan Livesay both walked and Burchell and Livesay's CR Jake Nipper both scored on a double by Chris Armstrong to make it 5-3 Gibbs.
Marion Co. added a run in the bottom of the 2nd as Bubba Newsome reached base on an infield error, advanced to 2nd on a single by Zeke Guyear, and scored on a single by Blake Fowler as Gibbs still leads 5-4.
Gibbs added 2 runs in the top of the 4th as Travis Peters singled, stole 2nd, advanced to 3rd on a sac bunt by Ray Burchell and scored on a single by Jordan Livesay. Livesay scored on a triple by Chris Armstrong as Gibbs now leads 7-4.
Marion answered in the bottom of the 4th with 4 runs as Bubba Newsome, Zeke Guyear, and Blake Fowler all singled to load the bases and Justin Bell doubled to score them all. Bell scored on a single by Kevin Layne as Marion took the lead at 8-7.
Gibbs came back in the top of the 5th with 4 unearned runs as Elijah Turner started it off with a single, Matt Sanders reached base on an infield error, and with two outs, Ray Burchell reached base on an infield throwing error that scored Turner. Elijah Bales then singled which scored Sanders. Jordan Livesay then doubled which scored both Burchell's CR Taylor Sawyer and Bales as Gibbs took the lead at 11-8.
Marion added their final 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th as Zephan Guyear reached base on an infield error, advanced to 2nd on a single by Joe Muir, advanced to 3rd on a walk by Bubba Newsome, and scored on a balk. Muir scored on a 6-3 ground out by Zeke Guyear to make the score 11-10 Gibbs.
Neither team scored in the 6th or 7th innings as Gibbs took the win at 11-10.
Gibbs advances to play USJ following the game between Marshall Co. and Marion Co. tomorrow.
What a night of baseball in Smyrna!!!!
The relief pitcher 4 Marion was Lucas Lloyd, dont have Matt Senders on the Marion roster!!

QUOTE(killajay @ May 19 2007 - 07:49 AM) 826462728[/snapback]Marion is a scrappy team who only puts the ball in play. Against DCA only 3 balls off marion bats left the infield. ANYONE on their team who scored reached bases on a walk. Their pitchers throw MEAT, but they hit the outside corner and throw strikes against teams that are struggling at the plate. Marion definitely deserved the win more than Meigs or DCA in the games they played...but i stand by the fact that Marion is not as talented as the teams they are beating, but don't get me wrong they deserve it and i wish the warriors the best of luck
your right-thats y Marion had 11 hits to Meigs 6 and fowler gave up 1 after the second. And Bell throws meat also-11 k's. vs. DCA. With your brillant baseball insight Im surprised your not a regular host on baseball tonight! As for hits against DCA, Marion had, I think 6 and 5 left the infield, the other was drag bunt! DCA had 6 hits also from Marion's meat pitcher. Lets c...Mcminn 0 runs off an avg. pitcher, Meigs 2 er's off Marions #3 and DCA 2 e.r. and 1 of those the umpire told the catcher after the game he missed a call at home, coulda been 1 e.r. So if my math is correct thats 4 E.R's in the region and sectional off Marion's meat pitchers....Like I said your brillant!!! Ill put that out there and let everyone else decide!!! The spin stops here!!!

And didnt Mcminn split w/Meigs in the season?? and didnt Mcminn beat Meigs to force a if nec. game??? and didnt Marion beat Shaw 1-0???? But yea Mexican u could b right it could end in 5 but I think the Warriors will make trip neway!!

Actually. . . . .ND won the City side and Marion won the Valley side with records of 10-2 and 9-2 respectively. ND wins overall by virtue of beating Marion 7-4 in the second week of the season. Congrats to ND and MC.

I have not started a rumor about coach roberts. The question on the thread is who is on the hot seat? Only winning 3 or 4 games a year i believe would qualify someone to be on the hotseat. I said in my post that i believe he will still be there if he wants it. BUT if he does not then i believe grant will get the job .
This is in regard to your post about whos better suited for the highschool game-you want to point out that Webb and JMS has won 20 games last yr. True, he had good players but I know from close sources that say he is not and was not the man for the job. As for Roberts winning 5 games a yr-Thats true but were in most all games and couldnt get over the hump. His fault.....maybe but its been a culture of losing in boys bask.ball for sometime at MC. All he did was try to instill discipline. respons. and work ethic. I think most players who played for us will tell they understood where he was comin from and respected him.
And if Im not mistaken he coached on the moutain in the Big Eight for many years and won close 100 games, took 2 differnt teams to Big 8 Championships, went to the same state JMS went to many years-(which is a come if you want tourn. not really a state tour.) I know he has said many times its a totally diff. game from middle school. And lets not forget he was coaching baseball and bask.ball and made his decision to get out based on what was best for the kids as he always did. Just an observation from a player who hasnt been round in awhile..

[seq. Valley Final
Marion jumped all over M. Elliot in the first going up 5-1 but in the 3rd with 2 outs a hit and 2 walks gave hot hitting Coty Green a chance and he delivered with slam that tied it. Green also homered for a solo blast on a change at the ankles as Baylor took a 6-5 lead in the 4th but in the bottem Marion tied it at 6. Freshman Lucas Loyd held the hot bats of Baylor at bay from the 4th on but Baylor did manage to pick up one more in the top of the 7th that proved import. as the Warriors once again looked as though they would pull a win out in the last inning as D. Ladd got on with an E, he moved to second on a FC and scored on Kevin Laynes single to left. Layne move to second on wild pitch but with 2 outs Marion's hopes ended as Sowder flew out. Final Baylor 8 Marion 7. A couple players were injured for Baylor, we hope they are alright. This was good game that ended a week-end of good baseball at Marion, Sequatchie, Grundy Co. Congrats to Baylor and to Marion on a good Championship game.

Scores in the semi's
Baylor won a tough game over Franklin Co. 5-4 as FC actually hit the ball well but defense let the rebels down. The lefty FC threw gave Baylor trouble.
Marion won a great game over Lebanon, coming from behind once again. Big Ronnie Smith for Marion with 2 run hommer in the 4th to put Marion ahead 6-4 after being down 4-1. Kopek led the game off for Marion with a solo shot and pitched 5 strong. Smith came in for 2 as Lebanon battled back to take a 7-6 lead into the 7th but Marion rallied for one in the 7th then the warriors loaded the bases in the bottem of the 8th with no outs. Lebanon got a pop-up and K then Fowler drew a bases loaded walk to end the game.

[Actually Halls did win there Pool....they were 3-1...Upperman 2-1-1...Marion County Coaches nor Boosters got any results from the Seq pool on sat nights game...the winner of Seq and Halls would win that pool....the host pool site is in charge of sending a rep as in any tourn you go 2....it was simply a lack of communication like the paper said.
