  1. You say history is relevant, I see what you mean but coaches don't make physical players, it's all about their mentality they can try to influence mentallity but can't force it. History is a minor fact, if not meaingless, Sorry i just had to disagree.

"Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat itâ€

Has to be the most niave post I've read in a long while.

  2. Despite posting 100 points (which would be good enough for third in the East), the Preds fall to the 7th slot and take on the Chicago Blackhawks (#2 seed). Preds haven't played them since Dec. 27 and the Hawks have given them a tough time the last few years. Blackhawks played in the conference final last year vs. Detroit, so they are playoff tested and have a legitimate shot at being in the Stanley Cup.

This is a tough draw for Nashville, for if they win this series, they go up against their nemisis San Jose in the next round.

Toews and Kane are thorns in the Preds side, but we've got a hot goalie which seems to be THE key ingredient in advancing in the playoffs. My goal is to take it to seven games, with us finally winning a road contest. If we happen to knock them out, then a major accomplishment can be added to our resume. That being said, we're going to have to find some offense, swarm the net, and keep their forwards from taking over the game in our end.

    Thoughts????

The equalizer...Pekka Rinne. He was the best player on the ice last nite. We win our first road game....We play a strong 3rd. While we bend, we don't break. We frustrate the other team, the more talanted team.

It's good to be a Predhead. :roflol:

  3. Hopefully, Suter and Weber learned from their olympic experience and will better understand what is needed to make the playoffs and a run.

Don't know the deal with Hammer. My understanding is he likes Nashville, so I hope Poile worked a deal for him to stay at a hometown discount....Or they are counting on making the playoffs because player salaries are based on the regular season, so teams make money in the playoffs.

So who is the odd dman out??? The healthy scratch?

And I guess we gave up on Jones.

  4. Tuesday, took down the best team in the west, san Jose......Thursday, took down the best team in the east, NJ Devils....

Playing well now, playing their system. Bouillion has been a find on defense, Klein settling in and the Hammer has turned his game around defensively. Blum, playing within himself. A sign a defenseman is doing his job is you don't notice him on the ice because he is not making mistakes.

Pekka is just Pekka....Turning into an elite goalie. Not sure I'd trade him for another one today.

We are a different team with the presence of Jordin Tootoo on the ice. We are more physical when he is healthy....and Ward, he may not score a bunch, but he is doing the things it takes to win, good in the corners and opposing dmen are nervous when he is on the forcheck.

Two huge game Sat (against Columbus) and Monday against Detriot.....( Verses game monday nite.) Don't know if we will either, but we are playing well enough.

  5. Like a Chris Pronger? Well, we can wish.

I agree that the two blowouts skew the numbers; however if one of my favorite dmen kevin klein hadn't turned the puck over, the goalies wouldn't have been left out to dry-hence the blowouts. Still too many brain cramps from him and Hammy.

Erat is a head scratcher, Leggie just scratches himself. So little production from these two, so much line jiggling from Trotzy to find a "comfort zone" for these two apparently overpaid stars. He finds one combo that works for a game or two, then they revert back to their normal semi-productive selves. Between the two of them, they've scored ONE FREAKING GOAL this season. I guess I am about done waiting for Legwand to be a 25/30+ goal scoring machine. I am wanting Rick Nash and I keep getting corned beef hash.

Like the way the dmen turned over the puck last nite in the 3rd....Hideous. Since we have a glut of centers, I'd do the Leggy at forward experiment again....He seemed to play better then.

I'd say, if the Preds keep playing the way they are and get out of the playoff hunt, only a few players on our team will not be considered trade bait. (not tradeable: the young guys, Rinne, Suter, Weber).... The rest may be playing for other teams by the trade deadline.

  6. I did some research today on +/- standings of individual players. Some of the interesting stats for the early part of this season:

    - Martin Erat sits at 674th among all players with a -9; that has to be some kind of record for a forward;

    - Our distinguished second line of defensemen are Hamhuis (-6, 634) and Kevin Klein (-4, 582-quick note: he recently improved from his -7 rating last week).

    - Mike Santorelli's -4 in a short stint in the NHL level gives one pause, as does Bouillon's -4. Notice we signed Bouillon as a veteran presence and bounces around between the third and fourth lines.

    - David Legwand comes in at a robust -5, good for 605 in the league. And since he doesn't score goals this season, he is really earning that paycheck!

As far as defensemen, Suter and Weber lead the team with a +2, which put them 79th and 80th among their peers. Patric Hornqvist leads the team with a +5.

Leggy and Erat, if they do not score, will be at the bottom of the league all year. Leggy has looked a little better the last few games....We have not missed Erat. Smithson has surprised. Also appreciate he stuck up for one of his players. We don't do it enough....

The two early blowouts contributed to the bad ratings, along with the dmen not "finding" themselves early in the year. We sit at 6-6, but our goals for/against is skewed by the two bad games.

It is obvious this team MUST play good defense to win games, but I believe we will throw in the stinker or two, keeping the + - looking bad for most of the 2-4th line dmen.

Pekka Rinne seems to have found his game. If the young guys keep growing into their roles, we could win a lot of games with 3 goals....I would still like to see one big, strong, nasty, stay at home dman on this team.

  7. Cry me a river RockHudson......I have given WH credit this year......why don't you just shooting off behind your keyboard. IT IS MY OPINION THAT WHITES CREEK WINS!!!!!!

    Wow..picking against White House...who's a thunk?????

I believe there is a post here that did a good job disputing your assertion that WH does not do well against metro teams......But I realize you have an axe to grind.

On to the game....The defense will need to play well Friday. Lots of injuries and I'm not sure who will be back for this game. In order to win, I believe WH will need to control field advantage and the clock....no 3 and outs. No poor special team play.

Hopefully, we will have at least one game this year where the weather will be good.

  8. Dandy, if you think I "worry" about WH program, you'd be wrong. I do read the WH boards as I do the other teams in our district just to keep in friendly competition. Someone else brought up "the rumor" and personally I don't care either way. I don't wish WH ill-will, and have no doubt that Porter has respect of the whole town. I'm just stating as a coach it would be hard to make a decision that may change the path the team takes after so many years of being in the playoffs. Don't be so sensitive...it's a message board.

Yeah, someone else brought up the rumor...but it was you who alluded coach Porter would change a decision to bring a player back to win a game....I doubt seriously if he did change his mind, it would not be "oh I can't win without him".....Seriously dude, why make such a post.

  9. IF the rumor is true, there is obviously some type of riff, considering that he was set out for the SC game. However, I am guessing there will be last minute amends and #10 will be on the field. If not, I do think that Halstead will pick apart QB2. Regardless of being ready since "day 1", he still doesn't have the experience at qb1. Sycamore has more to play for than Springfield did. While Porter would earn alot of respect if there was an infraction and he stands his ground, I wonder if he is that confident in qb2?

Cat, why don't you worry about your own program dude, instead of alluding amends will be made....

Coach Porter already has earned the respect he deserves, no matter the outcome. It's a little low for you to get on here and surmise coach Porter still needs to earn respect. You should know better.

  10. Brandon Warren should transfer to Kentucky. He could play with Randall Cobb, Kyrus Lanxter, & soon to be Tyler Robinson. The Wildcats could use another offensive weapon and I am sure they would be more than happy to move Warren back to his original position of tight end anyway.

Tennessee does have people blowing up every week..........it is called their fans (if that's what they want to refer to themselves as being anyway  ).

Leave it to you DaCatfish, to defend a thug. He is a great athlete, but he needs to let his Play do the talking and keep his dam mouth shut.

You show me in my post where I "defended" Warren's actions. Can you read???? I have encountered some ignorance in my postings on here in the past and your posts are certainly full of it :D

    I'd recognize a dacatfish post anywhere..... :D

  11. I agree. Downmarker, scoreboard, no relevance. Time, you can debate, but there is no replay in HS FB and that becomes a mute point as well.

I hate that there was question at the end of the game, as it was a good game to watch.

It was a little closer than I thought it was going to be and I disagree with going for two in the situation that was presented. I feel that in doing so, you are telling your team we can't win in overtime. I know you can debate that you are telling them that you believe they can get the conversion to win. However, I hate to see it some to that... Tough decision, I just disagree with it.

Kick the extra point at home, go for the win on the road.... Strategy used by many coaches. Too easy to 2nd guess....If we make it, he is a hero...

  12. The Preds young guns appear to be NHL ready.

Santorelli, Laasko, Klein and Horny look like they belong.

The Arnott, Dumont and Sully line look as good as anyone. Both goaltenders are playing well. Santorelli, with Leggy and Erat will produce.

I appreciate the fact we are not playing as much dump and chase. We seem to have more players with the ability to skate the puck in the zone.

    It is hockey season....Finally.

  13. No surprises. WH wins over the Cats. I do have a question though. I overheard that White House uses an alum as a ref by the last name Pond?? Isn't there TSSAA rules against that? Is that why he didn't see the WH player holding a Greenbrier player down and hitting him?? Wouldn't have made a big difference in the game, but it sure could cause a biased call or two.

I'm not sure, but I don't believe he is an official.

  14. Two teams who lost a lot of talent but play good, sound fundemental football.

WH has looked good, but the level of competition Portland and Westmorland offered wasn't as high as normally expected, but with that said, WH did what you are supposed to do to teams like that...beat them soundly.

Should be a good game, in the neighborhood of 24-21. WH.
