  1. Couple of final thoughts. Franklin has finished strong toward the end in both of these games against tough opponents.I think that speaks volumes toward their conditioning and speaks of senior leadership. Second having just watched UCLA knock off UT.It reminds me of coach rector. eventhough UCLA got picked 4 times in the first half UCLA came right back to their short passing game and their 3rd string QB was probably 25 of 27 in the second half and made TN look foolish. thats the way coach rector is he will never abandon his west coast style even if you pick him 4 times!!
  2. Yes but in math class when they teach you fractions, remember that there is a denominator for every numerator... and I was there to watch every single dropped ball. If they kept stats for balls thrown to versus balls caught John Hewitt beat him 10 times over that year. Problem was, IMO and many others, there was a conflict of interest and some heavy duty politics at play! Did the ends justify the means, well both are at UT on scholarship Hewitt on track Campbell on football, which is great for both, downside to it is, had we thrown more balls to Hewitt, maybe, just maybe we play for State instead of Ravenwood.
  3. Well lets see in 2003 Franklin lost to Lincoln county 33-38 in the pit(great thriller) and then beat Columbia 55-37 First two games of the season back to back. Oh yeah we beat Ravenwood 38-0 with our JV that year. Went on to be 11-3 and lost to Germantown in the semis. But I don't think we had Coach Webb that year I believe we beat him at Henry Co. 40-0
  4. kingz615- In kindergarten did you get sent home with notes saying" doesn't play well with others" You sure do seem to have a great deal of pent up frustration you want to take out on these boards with your insulting tone. Perhaps if you were to take up jogging or join an aerobics class you might be able to release some of that hostility in other more productive ways. Meantime try to stick to facts without as much anger and animosity, would you.
  5. OK not a bad attempt at a decent commentary. But lets review your history. First it's "Derrien" Waters, secondly Todd Campbell may have gotten a scholarship to UT but he was never an offensive weapon at Franklin! Substitute Joe Bell, John Hewitt, Tony Hammond or Matt Solima well before his name. As to defense, you got those names right and they were all good but in front of them are the names Hotard and Hibbet. As to hard hitting well I don't know number #48s name yet but I think we all will by the end of the season, and I dare anyone to get down in a three point stance against # 57 w/o a helmet. But you have hit the nail on the head when it comes to the secondary( by the way using terms like hand me down or any other personal derogatory remarks are not permitted on coach T). The average fan can tell that there is some confusion at those positions and yes Hillsboro and McCallie took advantage of it. Can not believe MaCallie did not attempt to more. You also make a great point in that Coach Rector is probably (second to coach Crawford) the best at taking advantage of a vulnerable secondary. Franklin will have to work hard to make improvements there. But when it comes to games like this history(Brentwood , Ravenwood) Franklin finds a way to win!!
  6. Given that Coach Clayton is from KY, the only thing I can imagine is that he went into the locker room at halftime down 14-10 and said look fellas here's what were gonna do. We're gonna Rope- A-Dope em in the third quarter. Defense I want you to give up chunks of real estate but make em work hard for it, and offensive line I want you to just getcha a breather in the third quarter. Well McCallie came out in the third qusrter and just rammed it down Franklin's throat twice. Franklin in turn on offense let McCallie's defense stunt and swarm them and could not get anything to happen. Score late in the third quarter ... McCallie 28 Franklin 10. But then something happened, it was almost as if the kids looked at coach and said "Now?" and Coach Clayton nodded. Well Alex Ford and Keylo Lee and the O line and Grahm Nichols went crazy and McCallie trying to protect their lead did nothing but try the middle of Franklkin's D-line. The trick had worked!! McCallie appeared to be exhausted come the 4th Quarter and Franklin just kept turning it up a notch. Just to be sporting Franklin decided to kick off deep to McCallie's speedster who took it 95 yards for what to most teams would be a back breaker, but to Franklin it was just a reason to push in the clutch and slap it into a higher gear. The final drive engineered by Franklin, after Eric Brown's beautiful spin move on the kick off to give them great field position on their own 40 with 2:00 left, was nothing short of championship form. Grahm Nichols showed incredible poise, true leadership by marching his team to the final winning score. This game ranks right up there with the Antioch win on the halfback throw back pass at the last minute to win, and the Joe Bell miricle hail mary catch to beat Brentwood. Congratulations to a group of young men who never quit and never doubted their ability to come from behind against a very good team!
  7. Franklin has great talent in Grahm Nichols, Alex Ford and Keylo Lee. There are plenty of others that compliment those offensive weapons. Pound for pound I'm impressed with #57 Jervis on defense, don't think he's the kind of guy you want to get mad at you. While they seem relatively small on defense and there are no apparent standouts, once again Donnie Webb seems to have put together a tough scrappy little defense. Can't say that I was impressed with the secondary for Franklin as it related to pass defense. Two of the three Hillsboro TD passes looked wobbly at best and a more seasoned secondary turns those into pics. No criticism though, because it takes that part of the defense the longest time to "come around" and I have no doubt they will get the wrinkles worked out. Aside from those three passes I thought Franklin dominated on both sides of the ball. Very surprised Hillsboro didn't try to toss sweep more to #3. He has blazing speed as he turns the corner and heads upfield. Honestly I have to say that I think Franklin outcoached Hillsboro and was more prepared!! Certainly Grahm Nichols set the tone early and often and Franklin became enthused and rallied around his early successes. Alex Ford reminds me of Joe Bell only maybe better...time will tell. Being partial to centers, but putting that aside for now, I was very impressed with the play of Mark Jackson. Several plays his cut blocking put two defenders on the ground and opened some huge gaps. Grahm had more time to sit in the pocket. Would have liked to have seen, and could have seen I think, a 42-7 score. I get nervous when FHS gets conservative to protect a lead!
  8. Congratulations to Casey Dykes and Justin Hampton from Franklin. Each three year starters that anchored one of the best defenses in the state over the past three years. Pound for pound two of the hardest hitting, most durable football players I've ever seen. Congratulations coaches ... you got it right! TFCA Website
  9. I don't think you are rooting for IHS as much as you are just plain antagonistic toward FHS. Jealousy is the greatest form of flattery. Try taking a little more positive spin on things in life and who knows, maybe one day someone will like you!
  10. Not bad for a first time post... I'm a little leary of first time posters... are you new or just hiding under a new name? Sounds like you've been to every FHS game to have that much detail? So if that is the case why are you so critical of FHS. Nothing wrong with a little constructive criticism but for every play you mentioned there are plenty of standout plays by each. I find your analysis of Casey Dykes to be INSANE! I believe him to be the best all-around athlete in Will Co. (Go ahead prove me wrong, but send me an email don't do it on the boards) Beating cross-town rivals in playoffs in recent times ... Brentwood in 2003 , Ravenwood in 2004, Loss to Ravenwood in 2005(Dbl OT) and (DC in 2006) Getting back to my point about "athletes" ... I think this game is dead even ... However FHS possess more, not better, athletes who could possibly make big plays to swing the game at a critical time
  11. Not four times better .... four times as many. For the three standout players IHS has, FHS has twelve. More Weapons! It only takes one to cause a game to swing, FHS just has a higher probability to have the game swing their way by virtue of having "more," not neccessarily "better," athletes!
  12. Ravenwood 10 Franklin 7 Ravenwood 14 Independence 28 Brentwood 7 Independence 17 Franklin 24 Brentwood 27 Independence 27 Dickson County 7 Franklin 27 Dickson County 20 On the surface, Independence looks to be the better team... but then Independence 16 Franklin 41 !! Line up both teams and do an inspection of "athletes" and you'd have to say FHS is far superior, probably 4 to 1 ! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> Question is ....who's going to show up Friday night?
  13. I don't know what was on the mind of the Indy team when they played Franklin this season, but to my way of thinking they just didn't show up! While FHS was not near as good then as they are now, it was just no contest. Injuries played a part, but mental toughness was missing big time .... that was then this is now! May the best defense win ...in a low scoring game. Franklin better work on its FG team this week!! FHS 10-7 !!
  14. Great game by Franklin's O-line ...dominated the line of scrimmage all night. 2 great runs off right end by QB #9 Grahm Nichols for touchdowns. HL shifted from a 5-3 into some 3-4 that gave FHS the corner, when Nichols came down the line their wasn't anyone within 10 feet of him. Franklin's D had HL running in the wrong direction most of the game. A half dozen times HL had 4th and 20+ ! HL scored their 6 at the end of the game
  15. Actually it was 24-7 at the half after three back to back to back scores by HL taking advantage of 2 turnovers by FHS deep in HL territory in the last 2 minutes of the half! That HL team made the mistake of running their mouths as they headed to the locker room for the half. Franklin's O Line was so mad in the locker room that they came out and pummeled a much bigger, stronger HL D Line with technique and tenacity. Similar situation in that FHS had two great backs in Darrien Watters and Antonio Hammond, who took turns running for chunks of 5-9 yards at a clip between the tackles. I look for Steele and Lee to do the same this year!!
  16. The more I go back and look over Region 5 scores for the entire season, the more I'm convinced they were way down from past years. Gallatin? Hendersonville? Sorry but it just doesn't look to have been near the teams of years past. Region 6 was down some but as in years past is still stronger than Region 5. Franklin has played McGavock and Overton and scrimmaged Hunters Lane and in all three, met with little difficulty. I know ... that was then and this is now ... I just don't think Franklin or Independence will have much trouble with Hunters Lane and Antioch. I look for Franklin to win by 21 and Independence to win by 30
  17. Haven't seen HL other than in a scrimmage, historically they're hoggies run out of gas in the second half. A good smash mouth run game with endurance can get er done!!
  18. Oh come on now ... he was just waving to his Mom in the stands saying "watch this mom, see how fast I look when everybody stops!"
  19. Talent is of course debatable, but I would suspect you are right in that there has probably been more college recruiting going on at Gallatin and Antioch the past 10 years, than there has been at Brentwood and Franklin!
  20. The key to Franklin's sucess is on the offensive line. The talent in the backfield has always been there, but I suspect that the reason FHS was so pass happy early on in the season was because they had trouble running it between the tackles. As the season progressed, FHS has shown that they can take care of business up front. As long as they run the ball 35 times and pass it 15 they should be just fine. If Overton has to rely on a running game to beat Franklin, they will be frustrated at best. If there is a chink in the armor it may be that FHS tends to play a little soft in the secondary with a prevent, bend but don't brake pass defense, but once they man up they are as tough as they come. I look for some long breaking runs (40+ yrds) by FHS backs Steele and Lee as well as a punt return by Dykes in a lopsided 35-7 win!
  21. No DUDE ... I'm not crying. I'm just trying to point out that student athletes need to be held to the highest standard and that walking around saying DUDE and getting high, don't fit in the mold of a student athlete. Crying? No I'm proud of Coach Fulmer for not putting up with the nonsense and trying to send a lesson to any other DUDE athletes out there that they better wake up!
  22. LeMarcus Coker, Antioch, (UT) Fred Sparkman, Columbia (UNC), Adarius Bowman Chatt. Notre Dame (UNC) ... does anyone have a name they'd like to add to the list? To be a student athlete is a privelage ... Earn It! Get rid of the tatoos, the earings, get a hair cut, quit smoking dope and drinking. Try to be humble! When representing your school, put on a coat and tie. Have enough confidence in yourself that you don't need to fight anyone if challenged. If ever interviewed ... try to be articulate (not say "you know") Most of all be grateful for the opportunity that your parents, teachers, administrators, coaches, fans and community as a whole, have encouraged you to pursue! Last but not least ... don't waste a God given talent!
  23. W L 1 Independence 5 1 2 Brentwood 4 2 3 Ravenwood 4 2 4 Franklin 4 2 5 Dickson Co 4 2 6 Centenial 2 4 7 Columbia 1 5 8 Clark NE 0 6 If I have it right .... Brentwood beat Ravenwood and Ravenwood beat Franklin and Franklin beat Dickson Co. Week 10 has two key games, Dickson Co plays Ravenwood and Franklin plays Centennial. Obviously if DC and Franklin both win, Ravenwood is out. If Franklin and Ravenwood win, the order stays the same or if Ravenwood and Centennial win the order stays the same but if DC and Centennial win Franklin is out. I always get so confused this time of year .... is what I said right?
  24. No doubt this years Fair Catch call was "Horrific" but still second in my mind to the Interception Call in the endzone that won the game for Brentwood two years ago. That was captured on film, as I'm sure this years bad call was. I'm fairly certain it was caught on film because I saw the AD from Brentwood handing the back judge a DVD during the OT. Funny though, the side judge that blew the call two years ago was at Franklin last year for the Brentwood game and then again on the sidelines this year. So I doubt that complaints by either school are being taken seriously by the TSSAA
