  1. BGA has a book that was published a few years back celebrating the 100 year anniversary of the school. If I remenber correctly it was stated that in the history of the two schools (Franklin and BGA) only once before had their JV football squads ever competed. At no time up until then had the varsity football programs ever competed against one another. Since the publishing of that book there have been 7 v 7 passing scrimmages, but I believe for Williamson Countians, August 21st will be a night of history. Someone tell me if I'm wrong.
  2. Working? Who would give you a job?? Call me and fill me in on how things are going
  3. Classic Franklin v. Brentwood. Great Defense by both teams. Both QBs showed poise and composure. Alex Ford defies the laws of physics, a pure will !!!!Congratulations to both teams on a great performance
  4. Thank you for this walk down memory lane, having had sons play in most of these games (all but the first and the last two I think, ie: 4-4 ) I can tell you it is the most stressful time of the year for a parent. Never knowing till the fourth quarter who will pour onto the field in celebration. A great game of mutual respect by the players and coaches alike (can't say the same for the fans, we get too carried away!) Both programs blessed with great coaches and athletes. A tremendous game experience better than any college or pro game experience I have witnessed. Get there early and expect a nail biter. Best of Health to all the young men ... leave nothing behind!
  5. Question ... Am I correct in saying that Centennial has in their school's history beaten Independence and Ravenwood but never beaten Brentwood or Franklin? I think Centennial is much improved and has one of the best offenses since Bates was QB in 2001(?), but Brentwood defense should have no problem containing their talented QB. I look for this to be low scoring particularly in the first half but Bwood Defense and Special Teams gaining field position to have Bretwood pulling away by late in the third quarter. Brentwood 24 Centennial 7
  6. Both Ensworth and Franklin barely beat McCallie ( 1 point both games mid 30s score) ... BA can only score 17 against McCallie but hold them to 3 Franklin blows Ravenwood away( albeit a non-typical game for Ravenwood) Ravenwood holds their own against MBA and beats BA ... Baylor only gives up 14 points to MBA but 42 to BA I'm getting lost here .... When was the last time BGA beat BA ...
  7. What is going on over there off of Mack Hatcher Parkway???
  8. First time attending a MBA home game.... great homecoming atmosphere..... had to park several blocks away but enjoyed the stroll through the pretty neighborhood with giant trees and stately older homes. Gorgeous campus .... everyone visiting with homecoming spaghetti super.... hundreds of little kids running around having a blast. Very professional sounding announcer .... great turf.... one small criticism ...the lighting seems too blue as opposed to white or yellow... I'd get different bulbs . Highlights of the game... saw what I believe was one of the prettiest punts I have seen since watching Ray Guy for the Raiders... the hang time on that sixty nine yard punt that hit inside the hashes, inside the five and then spun and curled out on the 1/2 yard line had to have been in the 8 second range .... I thought there was helium in the ball .... maybe they have Professor Flubber(Disney) teaching at MBA!!! #23 for MBA is an incredible football player... don't know his name but he can play offense, defense and punt. WOW! In a class of his own. All the backs for MBA looked like good athletes. Too many good athletes to have on the field at one time... #19 for MBA ??? Why isn't he on the field more. Saw him field and runback a short kickoff. Kids got talent . I guess MBA just has alot of that. Very surprised in the sheer number of mistakes(false start penalties) by both of these well coached teams. Most of the mistakes were by lineman...pretty equal in number by both teams. TheBigRedDog said it well about Ravenwood SCRAPPY. If MBA had their heart....or If Ravenwood had MBAs talent ... As to coaching I don't think you get much better than coach rector. He is a risk taker, which means he believes in his kids and his kids are scrappy and he gets the most out of them because they know he believes in them. The Franklin game has been the only let up and I believe that was simply the devastation of losing a team leader to a season ending injury early in the game. Hats off to Ravenwood for putting up a tough fight and fighting to the very end. As to the officiating ... the PA announcer said it well at the introduction of the game in his "good sportsmanship" speech. The radio guys on 106.7 who were calling the game, in paticular the emotional one of the pair, needed to tone it down a little at the end of the game about how bad it was .... even though it may have been true ... as an announcer you have to keep your emotions in check about those things.
  9. I will agree that football and politics do not mix, but they certainly exist .... I will agree that they definately have no place on these boards.... I was wrong to put my emotions toward those politics on these boards. I explained my comments far more than I should have to KingZ. I agree that further comments on this matter should cease.
  10. Kingz- as you can see from looking on the left side of this post - I have been a member of coacht for quite some time. I am an adult and I try to act like one most of the time. I don't usually lower myself to another's level when they act childish. Yet you mock me by taunting what are and always have been for several years, respectable arguements to good analysis. I'm not sure why you insist on challenging me ....but in the interest of sportsmanship .... as long as you have your dictionary out .... my respectable answer to you is look up the word "buffoon" Then once you know what it is, go see a professional about curing it!
  11. Goldeneye- Not a bad argument. Found myself agreeinging with alot of it. I think you are right in that neither McCallie nor Hillsboro figured out until too late that FHS was vulnerable down field. But that was then and now FHS has had two weeks to fix those obvious problems. I think that they were problems in that there was a lack of communication rather than a lack of talent. But I'm sure IHS will test that talent and the two weeks of working on those communications problems will be answered one way or the other. But you have to admit that "up and its good's" stats look pretty good for the visitors!
  12. Kingz- As to Todd Campbell, the question was who was a better "high school receiver" - Todd Campbell and every other athlete who receives a scholarship to a Div I SEC school does so based upon a recruiters belief that he will be a good player "AT THE NEXT LEVEL" Thats why lineman who are 6'6 and 300lbs get recruited by colleges. Not because they were good lineman in highschool but because the recruiter believes they can be molded into a good player two years later after he has "grown" into his body and been coached by experts at the next level. Todd Campbell received a scholarship to UT for that very reason (IMO) he has the potential at the next level to be a good receveiver. In contrast, John Hewitt does not have "the potential" to be a good receiver at the next level and that's why he is on a track scholarship. Was IMO Todd a better high school receiver than John - No- Were more balls thrown to Todd than John - Yes - Did that hurt the team? Who knows or cares. Both boys are at a great university and both are on scholarship - enough said. Bottom line the recruiters got the looks they needed to make a judgement - which turned out great for Todd and for the Vols -
  13. Biznazz- Thank you for your support and remember that every fan has the right (and indeed perhaps the very reason for these boards) to be a "monday morning quarterback" or for that matter a "monday morning coach" That doesn't mean that you don't respect the coach or his decisions, but as a fan you have a right to do a little second guessing. That doesn't mean you "bash the coach" or dislike him, it simply means that you are a fan and you think he should have passed when he ran and should have run when he passed. If you have seen the hours and hours of dedication per season, and indeed the 30+ seasons of men like coach clayton or coach webb, you would never dare to disrespect them as coaches. The sacrafice they make in time away from their families to instill values in young men is to be honored! Perhaps Kingz, if you had ever put on a set of pads and been thru a summer of two a days you would understand .... somehow I don't think that's the case
  14. First I always proofread what I write. Second do you mean "down-grade" or "down-size". Tucker Cathey is a good friend and a great football player, his post season accolades bear that out. If you are asking me if I had my choice last year and I were the head coach at FHS would I have played #67 Mark Jackson at center rather than Tucker Cathey, we'll the answer is yes, as long as Tucker is playing at tackle! Tucker is big and strong and makes a great offensive tackle, but I prefer a smaller, quicker, more nimble, more agile person at center. In the second quarter of the Hilllsboro game last year Mark came in at center and I saw FHS drive the ball up the middle in huge chunks. For some reason after halftime coach made the decision he did. Far be it from me to wonder why! As this year has unfolded I have seen #67 Mark Jackson manhandle the far bigger, far stronger athletes at Hillsboro, McCallie and Ravenwood. He has done so by knowing how to cut block, how to crab block and understanding how to best position himself and his body relative to the play and the other players body, commonly referred to as technique. It is not the dog in the fight but the fight in the dog and the smaller dog often has the tools and the instincts to outsmart the bigger dog rather than trying to beat him at his own game. As to watching the same game, I spend a lot of time watching that one position, probably more time than most others in the stadium. The fact that I was a center and two of my three sons were centers might have something to do with that.
