  1. Club VB coves our best of preps in Chattanooga. We do have some great players that don't play club, but last year and this year all but I think 1 were from Choo-Choo City.

    This year Heather Parman (GPS)is Player of the Year, Christina Teter(RB), Megan Givens(GPS), Kei Kei Parham(Fro City), Jasmine Brown(GPS), Courtney Lawson(RB), and a couple of others that our kids didn't see getting pictures taken for this year. The bad thing with MVP Teams is that everyone can't be on them and they are only as good as the people that pick them. Congrads to all that do make these teams

    Hey Chattdaddy did you ever learn who the rest of the Best of Preps volleyball list were?

    CONGRATS to GPS!!! Come on Boyd!!!

  3. Who will be at the state tournament in all divisions?

    AAA Brentwood vs Dobyns Bennett DB wins in 4. I think they come on strong at state

    DII GPS vs. Father Ryan GPS wins in 5. IF GPS is healthy and has all starters...

    Boyd-Buchanan volleyball coach Kristy Lenoir knew it would be tough for her Lady Bucs to defeat the Lady Patriots from CSAS for the third straight time Tuesday night.

    That was exactly the challenge she had to pose to her young team.

    After all, the District 5-A-AA championship was on the line and the right to host next week??™s Region tournament was at stake as well.

    Whatever Lenoir said in her pre-game talk must have been effective because the Lady Bucs took care of business in a hurry, winning the match in three straight games and taking less than an hour to claim their second straight district title.

    Boyd-Buchanan was victorious by scores of 25-11, 25-10 and 25-17.

    As a result, the Lady Bucs will face District 6-A-AA runner-up Chattanooga Christian on Tuesday in one Region semifinal.

    CSAS will face 6-A-AA champ East Ridge in the other semifinal. Starting times have yet to be determined, but the first match will probably begin around 4 or 4:30.

    There are only eight players on the Boyd-Buchanan roster. All have their own designated roles and all are important to the success of the team, which is now 31-10 following Tuesday??™s win.

    None were any more important than sophomore Rachel Harper.

    With the Lady Bucs clinging to a 12-11 lead in the first game, Harper stepped to the service line and produced 13 straight winners as Boyd-Buchanan took charge in a hurry and gained a lot of momentum in the process.

    As it turned out, the Lady Patriots never really recovered from that onslaught.

    ???I liked the way things turned out today,??? Lenoir smiled at the conclusion of the match.

    ???We took care of business. Rachel (Harper) kicked it in with some outstanding serves and that was the difference in the match as far as I was concerned.

    "We had beaten them twice earlier in the season and I told my girls we just had to stay focused on the task at hand.

    ???We don??™t have any control on what happens on the other side of the net, but we have total control of what happens on our side. That??™s what we have to focus on,??? the coach added.

    CSAS coach Brandon Lowery felt like his girls may have been a little shell shocked when they entered Tom Jett Gymnasium.

    After all, Boyd-Buchanan has been the measuring stick for success in this district in recent years and the Lady Patriots were well aware of that fact.

    ???This was our first post-season experience and I thought we were a little rattled. We didn??™t play as well as we??™ve been playing as we didn??™t pass the ball very well and we didn??™t communicate like we needed to.

    ???I??™m real proud of the fact that we??™ll leave here with a plaque, but I??™m totally displeased with the effort we gave.

    "We walked in here today a little timid, but a situation like this will be good for us on down the road,??? he added.

    The Lady Patriots are now 34-7 for the season while Boyd-Buchanan is now 31-10.

    Boyd-Buchanan??™s Shelby May earned MVP honors after turning in a sterling performance where she had 19 assists, eight digs, eight kills and five aces.

    Other all-tournament team members from Boyd-Buchanan included Stephanie Silvers, Breejante Williams and Harper.

    Those selections from CSAS included Kayla Kelly, Hollie Madison and Erin McLance.

    Two picks for Grace included Kaylan Dilts and Brooke Calhoun while other honorees included Temple??™s Janette Elliott and Silverdale??™s Regan Robertson.

    CSAS stats:

    Joy Owino ??“ 8 blocks;

    Kayla Kelly ??“ 6 kills, 3 blocks, 7 digs;

    MeMe Kelly ??“ 3 kills, 1 block, 1 dig, 1 ace;

    Erin McLance ??“ 3 kills;

    Katie Dean ??“ 2 digs;

    Terilyn Rodriguez ??“ 3 digs;

    Chariah Gordon ??“ 3 kills.

    Boyd-Buchanan stats:

    Shelby May ??“ 19 assists, 8 digs, 8 kills, 5 aces;

    Stephanie Silvers ??“ 17 digs, 5 kills, 1 ace;

    Rachel Harper ??“ 14 digs, 7 kills, 8 aces;

    Maggie Brown ??“ 3 digs, 3 kills, 1 ace;

    Erica Morris ??“ 8 digs;

    Ashley Hixson ??“ 1 dig, 3 aces;

    Hope Johnson ??“ 11 digs, 2 kills, 1 ace;

    Breejante Williams ??“ 6 digs, 10 kills.

  5. Congrats Lady Bucs..

    We must have been making our post at the same time. I cut and pasted it under your post and also made the change to the topic on my first post. Is that what you were wanting? I don't have any clue about District 6 so sorry I can't help out there. I will try to update District 5 as much as I can.

    District 5 Championship Tuesday 10-14-08 @ McMinn Central High School 6:00pm

  9. Actually Grace finished # 2 seed in east so now Grace and #1 seed west Boyd might face each other in the semi-finals.

    That is Correct. Grace and McMinn Central both split matches this year. So However the tie breaker played out Grace got the #2 seed. Grace plays Tyner in the first round on Thursday in the Boyd side of the bracket. So that means if Grace can advance by winning it's first two matches it will play Boyd on Saturday at 12:00 noon in the semis of the District TX. This match will be at Boyd. So that means the winner will advance to the District Championship and also Regions while the loser stays home.. Just shows you how you can't take a night off ever....

  10. Sale Creek improves to 23-5 tonight with their win over Signal Mountain in 3. The lady panthers had a good crowd to honor their seniors. Sale Creek closes their regular season this Thursday at Cleveland, which should be a good match to get ready for the District tournament on Monday.

    Good luck at Cleveland Coach...! I am sure you will be all smiles!

  11. Do you knwo how the rest of those teams shake out as far as the standings are concerned, East and West

    Here is what I have.

    EAST

    McMinn Central #1, Grace #2, Polk #3, Silverdale #4,Tellico Plains #5 , Sequoyah #6, and Copper Basin #7

    WEST

    Boyd Buchanan #1, CSAS #2, Temple #3, David Brainerd #5, David Brainerd #4, Brainerd #5, 21st. Cent. #6, and Tyner #7

    I will post the TX. in another post or do you just want me to e-mail it to you?

  12. Wow, more men than I realized in the volleyball world of Tennessee. I was mainly talking about Head VB coaches at Varsity level. Is Dail at Anderson County a Head Coach? I do remember Mike at Catholic, and David Moore. I didn't know of Dennis Ray at Webb. I guess I stay around town to much. I didn't know about Brian Fahey at Brainerd. You are right that they haven't been known as VB School, but maybe he can turn that around. Seems that he has a background for it and they sure do have some good Athlete??™s.

    I think Notre Dame has a male coach too but I do not know his name.

  13. If its all right with you I will call the Tssaa tomorrow and also ask them if sometime they can edit their site and Separate the two with 5E and 5W. Its likely other Districts are like that and I can see your confusion. You are looking forward to District. Have you looked on the TSSAA Web Site for District Sites for District Trounaments and seen if it is seperated there? Irregardless, I will call tomorrow. Thanks for all of your help you have given me and good luck in your Tournament.

    Yeah give them a call. I would love to know if I got this right or not. Nothing is posted about the Districts yet not even the location. I have heard that Grace is in the same pool as Boyd so that means the winner of that match will move on to the District Championship. That makes it VERY hard for Grace to make it back to Regions/Sub-state... In the match with Boyd this season Boyd won 3-0 but our girls played them hard. It will take a near perfect match to top them and that is something we have yet to put together. not saying we can't as we seem to be playing our best ball the last 3 matches, but it will be very hard.. I have felt all along that Boyd should make it back to state as they have shown they can beat East Ridge, Notre Dame, and Grace.. I was hopeing that it would play out like it did last year as we were across from Boyd but not so lucky this year. Thanks..

    BTW I hope they make it clear next year once they have the new classifaction..

  14. I just looked all over the TSSAA web-site and I came up with nothing. I did find out that Grace is in Region 3 District 5, and EAST division. So by that it sounds like District 5 has an East and West like we thought. Now WHO is in which one. Well after looking at who we have played I would think that if we played them twice then they should be in the same division right? So with that in mind I get.

    District 5

    East.....

    Grace

    McMinn Central

    Silverdale

    Copper Basin

    Tellico Plains

    Polk Co.

    Sequoyah

    West...

    Boyd Buchanan

    Brainerd

    CSAS

    David Brainerd

    Meigs County

    Sweetwater

    Temple

    Tyner

    Grace played Boyd, Brainerd, CSAS, and David Brainerd once this year and never played the other 4 in this Div. and as for 21st Century, Bachman, and Collegedale I am not sure they even have a volleyball team.

  15. District 5 is broken into two divison and I am not sure what teams are in what division. all I know is Boyd is undefeated, Grace has lost two district matches (1 to Boyd and 1 to McMinn Central) and McMinn has at least one as Grace beat them in the second match. It's my geuss that Boyd in #1 on one side and either McMinn or Grace is #1 on the other side. I would really like it if someone could clear this up.

  16. Just got the pool info today.

    Should be alot of fun!

  17. Last but not least: Who ever has a bracket where the two teams who won both of their pools(Ryan and GPS) play each other in the semi's??? No tournament I have ever seen. This should be fixed!!!

    That would be "THE FRO" coach Neely's doing... I have my own thoughts about the way the brackets were set up but I better not voice them here..

  18. Well it's over and we are worn out. You would think that after years of school and club ball that we as parents would be adjusted to spending long days in gyms but it still drains you and we don't even play. On top of that you have to play in gyms that feel like sauna??™s...! My dream for next year is a gym with an AC!! The second court at Red Bank was just the worse ever. I really hate it for the teams that had to play in that for two days straight. Now for the volleyball.

    As we know now Dobyns Bennett won the Gold Bracket and Baylor won the Silver. DB's win over GPS is not a huge surprise to me as we know several players on DB as our daughter used to play with them. It was even a little heart breaking to watch them play so well knowing that our daughter could have been a part of it. But things happen for a reason and we are very happy here in Chattanooga. DB is loaded with talent and will be a serious state contender this year in AAA. The scary part is they are also young in allot of spots so look out for them for the next couple years.. GPS is well GPS.. Coach Brock is such a good coach and has a team loaded with so much skill that I am sure even he will say it makes his job easy. The only thing that can stop them in route to a back to back DII title is themselves. Father Ryan will be there too to push them but GPS is just to powerful as this weekend proved. It was a little hard for our daughter to take seeing Baylor take the Silver as we pushed Baylor to three very good games. Losing 19-17 in game three. Grace came so close to moving to the semis in Silver after what was a very hard Friday Pool play. Not sure if Coach Fro was trying to tell us something by putting us in the same pool as Father Ryan, Baylor, and Knox Cath. or not but you have to stop and wonder when you see that. Grace really struggled for several matches were we would play pretty good for a little while and then drop 7-8 points on just pure bad play and you can't recover that against good teams. Coach made a rotation change after our 4th straight pool loss early Saturday and it seemed to make a difference as we won a couple matches and then pushed Baylor in the re-match from Friday.. Lets hope we can build on that now. Some other thoughts of mine were what happened to S. South? Did that loss to DB (just before the TX) take everything out of them? From what I have heard and read that was one of the best volleyball matches every played up in Kingsport. But South just didn't have it this weekend. Boyd looked real good early and made it to #1 pool for Saturday, but with only 7 girls I think they ran out of gas a little and just couldn't play all out all day long. All in all it was a fun weekend and even though we didn't play the best we could have we enjoyed it. We got to see some good friends again from back home and got to see pretty much all of our daughter club teammates play again. we will do it again next year. Congrats to DB, GPS, Baylor, and Cleveland!

  19. Ok everything I have so far I have also posted on the scoreboard.

    East Ridge over Bradley Central 2-0,... East Ridge over Dalton GA. 2-0,... Eagleville over Bradley Cent. 3-1,... Baylor over Grace 2-0,... East Ridge over Eagleville 2-0,... 22. They are scrappy and have been making progress from past years. I think the talk has to do more with the improvements they are making. Their coach has done a good job teaching the girls the game and you can tell they are starting to put it all together. Sale Creek is a small school with only 200 kids, and I know they will be happy with the new classifications breaking A and AA. I think they will do extremely well when they can compete with schools of their same size. Keep a lookout for the lady Panthers and I'll keep posting the scores.

    Watch for these players to make a big impact for Sale Creek this year.

    Shelby Hill Jr. MH

    Lanie Barnette Jr. MH

    Stephanie Lewis Sr. OH

    Holli Redmon Sr L

    Nice Job Sale Creek. they are very well coached!! I will be looking for more post from you DS 4 Life!
