"WOW!!!" that is the first text message I sent to a buddy of mine.. The next one was "Speed, Speed, Speed" Both of which were sent in the 1st half mind you... Yeap I went up to South Pittsburg to go watch this team for myself after hearing about them all year. I live in Hixson, TN. now after moving down from Kingsport, TN. I have watched allot of High school football in the last 19 years, Both in Tenn and Virginia. I have been to several games in both the Chattanooga and North Ga. area this year but have not seen a team as good as South Pittsburg in a LONG time. No they are not very big and will not just pound on you till you can't get up.. No these guys just run around and by you so fast you can't even get a hand on them. Their first play of the game was an off tackle and the boy was not even touched for a 99 yard TD. Then a 68 yd pass to #21 who just flat out ran by three guys before the ball had left the QB's hand. it's not hard to complete 90% of your passes when you have guys running that open. Then came a couple flashy runs and passes where the boys just made the tacklers look lost and I was just sitting there with my mouth wide open. Even the QB had a run where he left tacklers grasping at air.... I went to watch a good football game and what I saw was an AWESOME football TEAM! I would also like to say "Thanks" to Geno for the warm hospitality... I just happened to sit right in front of him and he along with his friends filled me in on allot of what South Pittsburg football is all about. I'll come back up in two weeks but I have got to go watch my beloved GATE CITY BLUE DEVILS play in the 2nd. round of the Virginia playoffs next Saturday.... Save me a seat ok Geno...?? Good luck against Gordonsville and I hope it's South Pittsburg and Hampton... That could be a very interesting ball game...

Well I thought I would add my two cents into this topic after what I went and saw last night. I have seen a ton of high school football since my playing days ended in 1988. I have watched and played football up in the Region 1 area. I have watched good football over in Virginia Class A Div. II all the way to a state championship in 2003 (GO Gate City) I have seen Knoxville area teams play, some mid Tenn. teams, and have also been to three Blue Cross Bowls in the past 6 years. But what I saw in South Pittsburg was a first for me. That has to be one of the fastest TEAMS I have seen take a field. They have speed to burn, and just pure athletic ability up and down this whole football team. It will be an upset if they do not make it to a State Championship. The only thing I see slowing them down is themselves. They are not very big but I feel to beat them it will take a shot out type game and I??™m not sure if anyone in this State can stay with them. I would also like to thank Geno for the hospitality. We had never met I just went to a game and happened to sit in front of him. Got an Awesome team Geno... I'll be back in South Pitt in two weeks to watch them play Hampton i hope. On my way to watch GATE CITY play in the 2nd. round on the VA. playoffs next Saturday...

I just wanted to stop by here and say GOOD LUCK at State to the Lady Cats of Greenbrier...! They are truly a Championship program...... We were very impressed with your program and the way our girls, coaches, and families were treated and made welcome. The little treat bags and decorated locker room made our girls feel respected and that meant allot to our program. Your girls play very hard and you can tell they have been well coached. They should make a serious run at that State title! Like I have said before we are a very young and building program with allot to learn and work on. This experience has been priceless for our girls and maybe we can return the favor in a couple years… Our coach has plans to bring our girls up to the tournament so they can see first hand what it is like to play for a state title, so don’t be shocked if you see them in your cheering section. Best of luck and play hard!!!

Congrats to Grace for upsetting East Ridge. But heading into the "Brier" patch is a little different. I think Greenbrier wins in 3, in a unstoppable fashion. Grace just doesn't have the firepower to compete with a team like Greenbrier.

 

 

 

 

Oh we know what we are walking into trust me... We played them at the Anderson Co. TX and they took it to us pretty easy. You won't hear any smack talk from me... We will try our best to at least show up and give you a game. For a program like ours we are just real excited to be at this level. We are a building program with goals to be a program like Greenbrier, Anderson Co. etc. None of our girls have ever been to a Sub-state game before so just to get here has been a blessing. Our future is looking brighter so an experience like this will play a huge roll in the coming years...

East Ridge is playing well and will get past Grace to await a Boyd B vs. Notre Dame war. Boyd has been playing well, but Notre Dame is the defending state champ. In a 5 game fight, Boyd wins a tight one.

 

In the nightcap the Ridge takes the first because Boyd is worn out. Boyd regroups in the second to even the match 1-1. From there the 3rd game goes back and forth until the Nature Boy and the rest of the Ridgers get involved in the match giving the ladies what they need to go up 2-1. from there it is all "fro" as ER wins the region.

 

Greenbriar should win their region but if they don't they will have a TOUGH road away from home. Some teams play alot better at home and they are one of them. Tough ticket at their place, Boyd will struggle, and GB should join us at state. If GB has to travel, expect a tussle in the ridge! Expect the unexpected. We missed our annual trip th State last year and are a little hungry for arena food. GB if you travel to our house thursday, pack a lunch, it gonna be a long one!

 

 

 

 

Hey ERidger..... You forgot about GRACE didn't you? Never look past a hungry team...... It's OK this way you can kick back and watch a baseball playoff game thursday night while GRACE heads up the road to play again...... Greenbrier is one of the top teams in the state and I hate that we must face them, but to be honest we are all just very happy to be playing again and the Fro is left at home.... LOL... it feels pretty good to talk a little smack....

....................and I thought it was supposed to be a "re-building" year after they lost 7 seniors last year??

Last year was supposed to be their year but they slipped up against East Ridge in the regions and fell short.

This was a rebuilding year and with only two seniors it has been a long hard season. But they have started to click and at times look like a team who could play with anyone. Several freshman and sophmores have played allot this year for Grace so better watch out for us next year! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

No other Grace Volleyball team has ever made it to sub-state before so this is a first for our program. We are all very proud of them. It has been a long hard season, but they seem to be playing their best ball right now.

Yes we are very proud of our GRACE girls... They played lights out tonight against East Ridge, Boyd didn't see our best game but not sure if it would have mattered as they are a very strong team! No Volleyball team from Grace has ever made it this far before so it's HUGE for our program. Way to go Grace Golden Eagles... Grace moves on to play for the District 5 Championship Tuesday night @ Boyd Buchanan I have not heard who but my money is that it will be against Boyd.. Grace really showed up and played. Looked like the team who finished in 2nd. at the Hixson TX.

Just wondering how the Districts are shaping up for both A/AA and AAA. I have not seen anything here in Chattanooga yet. All I know is we play at McMinn Central Saturday am.

WOW I opened up a good one didn't I? Well it seems safe to say that a true State poll can not be found but that many members have their own ideas as to who is the best in the state. With my daughter now playing both club and school ball for the last three years all over the state I have had a chance to see some very good volleyball played. I am not about to do any rankings as I have not seen every game nor I have not seen ever team. But of the teams I have seen I would say that Brentwood, DB, GPS, Ooltweah, AC, Greenbrier, KC, Independence, Red Bank, Father Ryan, would have to all be in my top 10. now again this is just a list of teams that I HAVE seen play first hand. So what can we as members do to help clear this up in the future?

I have looked all over the internet and even this site looking for some state rankings for all classes in volleyball. Also I was hoping I could find win/loss totals for many teams and could only find a few... is this more of a fan updated thing here? I would like to see who is considered as some of the top teams across the whole state, and what their records are. It's a shame that sports like volleyball are not kept up with as much as football,basketball and baseball...

I just wanted to stop by and say thanks to everyone up in AC land. As a Grace player parent we had a very good time even though are girls didn't show up ready to play. We started off real ugly, kind of like we had left our game in Chattanooga and then seemed to play better against two very good teams only to fall apart. We are a very young team with some good talent that has yet to find it's way. I also want to say thanks to AC#5 dad for stoping by and saying some very nice things to me and my daughter. AC and Greenbrier are the type of teams we are hopeing to be like in the future. Thanks again...

Richlands is a VERY good football team..!! Now Gate City is no where near the same level of team they have put on the field in the last 3-4 years but Richlands took them to the shed easy... I say they will run the table in the regular season and make a serious run in the playoffs. I don't think any team has scored on them yet this season. It will be interesting to see them against some of the speed in northen VA.

 

 

 

Now I ask you who is the team to beat in East Tenn this year? DB seems to be down and I don't think that SHHS is ready to make a serious run yet.. Has THS taken a step back too? Just not hearing allot of news about East Tenn teams this year. Most of what I am hearing is about Knox Area teams and west...

I would recommend either the Cherokee vs. Boone or Sullivan East vs. Central game since they could be close scores.

Hello. I'm checking here to see what is the game times for Tennessee games. My team (Gate City, VA.) has a bye week this friday and I thought I would go see the Boone @ Cherrokee game. They kick off @ 7:30 in VA. I thought it might be 7:00 over here. Thanks...

Hey GC_Quincy.... I see you come by here too.. Not much of a game to watch tonght was it? I thought the D looked better but then again it was Coeburn..

 

The test will be PV this year... I think they can move and score of us.. Lets hope that this team can get a fire going under them by then..

 

I heard that Cloudland plays JJ Kelly this year too.. Is that right? That will be interesting.. Well seeya in Pound next week.

I just wanted to say CONGRATS to Greenville, D-B, Betsy, and U. High. for getting all the way to BORO! I'm very happy for all the teams, players, coaches, fans, and families.... Best of luck and bring home some championships back to East Tennessee...!

I did enjoy watching that game.. I am neither a SH or DB fan cause I grow up in the county and always hated city schools... Even though Greenville is a city school too I never had to face them growing up so I stood up and cheered for them as hard as I would my own school... And I will return tomorrow night and cheer for them again... It was nice to watch the cocky SH boys walk out of Freedom Hall (SH home #2) with their heads low knowing they had just been handed a big lose and could not live up to SH teams of the past.. I bet that # 34 kid is still fouling people right now. I would really like to talk allot of trash but it really is not worth it.. I am just happy their run is OVER in NET... Now I hope that the Green Devils can do it one more time....

I should also make it clear that I am looking for the Class AAA Region 2 brackets... Maybe that will help...
