If someone needed their grades pumped up surley it would have to be for someone needing it to get to another level. If your intending on going to work right after high school it wouldn't matter. Why would someone in their right mind think if they screwed it up in high school that their ready for college. It has to be for an athlete to get them over the fence to get in and from that point the school their going to will cheat them through the rest of the way for their athletic skills just like the rest.

I agree that this is likely related to athletics and keeping someone(s) eligible. But there is a LOT of state/federal education $$$ tied up in grade promotion/graduation rates, so there's a part of me that thinks this could be associated with that.

It wont matter for hardin valley because they will always be terrible. I wonder how or if that could affect farragut in football. I know they will always be good at baseball.

It will impact Farragut either way. Some kids that are currently zoned for FHS will be shifted into a new school zone. I live on the very far west end of Farragut, and my kids would be zoned for this new school, even if they build the school north of I-40.

When they built this place they didn't take enough land for growth and now have painted themselves into a corner.

I don't think anyone expected the kind of exponential growth that Hardin Valley has seen in recent years, but I agree, KCS was somewhat short-sighted when they built HVA. Some of that was budget-related though; heck, they had to scrape together the money to build the football complex, as well as the baseball and softball fields, in the 11th hour.

If I understand correctly, KCS is expecting to build another high school on this end of the county in the next decade, either on the west end of Hardin Valley or the west end of Farragut. The new school would relieve overcrowding at both HVA and Farragut HS.

Yeah, I’m sure he’s wanting to be the #1 option somewhere. That’s just not gonna happen in Cincy.

I'm sure he does, although I think he was mainly looking for a longer-term deal with the Bengals, not a one-year franchise tag/stop-gap option. Lot of chatter that he ends up in NE when it's all said and done.

Ole Holier Than Thou leaving because he can't compete in today's climate. Looks like Shifty Steve Matthews left Ancient Eddie shivering in his visor. Too bad Concord is but stepping stone for Sober-ish Steve to get back into the game after Catholic wasn't allowed to hire him.

He's 70. Cut the guy some slack.

You are right about one thing though. They are going to have to get in the recruiting game.

I've read where the most new arrivals (legal) are coming from is Florida.

Yup, according to the Census Bureau, Florida, California, and Georgia are the top three states where folks are coming from. But if you also factor in those leaving TN for other states, the net gain from Florida is relatively small, and it's actually negative for Georgia. Based on net gain, California and Illinois are where we are gaining the most folks from.

The secret is definitely out. According to the annual U-Haul statistics, which is also a pretty good migration indicator, Tennessee has been a top 6 growth state every year since the pandemic (2020 - #1, 2021 - #3, 2022 - #6, 2023 - #5).

But I do hope things get back to the rockin' glory days. It's a great atmosphere with Eagle Stadium beside that mountain. Maybe someday the businesses will close on a Friday night and the community will come out and support the Golden Eagles.

I hope you guys can recapture some of that glory, but I think many programs statewide are suffering from the same issue, regardless of how successful they are. Sure, the most successful teams are usually going to bring in the bigger crowds, but times have changed now that most high school games are on TV (or streamed). Even some of the perennial powerhouses aren't filling their stadiums like they used to. Unlike college football (or the NFL), there aren't enough fans to mask this. High school football attendance is down everywhere. And in more suburban/metro areas, there's just a lot of other stuff competing for our attention.

Agree on all points. The Price bros could do really well at Grace and Pemberton’s offense could do well at Campbell County…… IF…he can mesh with the locals and they are able to adjust from watching their team throw it all over the field to throwing 3-5 times a game. He will turn all those little speedy receivers they usually have into speedy little wingbacks. He will take the best back or most athletic linebacker and put them at fullback where if he is the right guy he will get the yards. That may sound crazy but if the team buys into the concept, it will work especially in a place like coffee county. Pemberton knows the double wing T as good as anyone in coaching the last 20 years.

For the most part, CC lacked the overall athleticism year in and out that was needed to be able to run Price's offense. I think they could actually be more successful with what Pemberton brings to LaFollette, especially if they can get better on defense.

Clark did a good job of bringing kids in from surrounding Knox schools and keeping his own. Once he left all the handlers started looking elsewhere.

He did a phenomenal job of keeping the talent at home. That's always been an issue at SD.

HVA is just not a good football job. Football is way down the sports priority list there.  Until the discouraging of students playing multiple sports ends from some of the coaches there football is going to be playing shorthanded.

No offense to some guys, but they need a younger coach with some energy instead of an older coach looking to find a place to end a career.

With HVA being one of the top 10 or so high schools in Tennessee in terms of enrollment there is absolutely no excuse for not being competitive in football.

Completely agree. The student body cross-section is very similar to Farragut, but the emphasis on football is very different between the two schools. As successful as Farragut is across multiple sports, it'll be interesting to see if that emphasis changes at all whenever Eddie Courtney decides to retire.

Anybody going besides me? Tomorrow at Sevierville high school at 5:30 3rd annual Knoxville all-stars against everybody else in the area. Six of the Oak Ridge players will be playing and it's  gonna be on channel 6. Should be a good showing of all the kids in the area. Give a bunch of scouts a good look at these guys.

Problem is nobody's heard about it, haven't seen any advertising or anything. Can't believe Packer hasn't had it all over the tv and sports radio.

I saw it advertised every week during his Thursday night broadcasts, and they talked about it a few times on 990 in the afternoons. But I don't think I've seen any other advertising.

Hopefully the rain holds off. We're supposed to get a lot of rain overnight.

Sorry to rant with multiple posts on the subject, but you're looking (from the highlighted text) at this from a logical perspective. The Voucher Bill will not affect the kids who perform poorly on tests. The bill simply allows any student to apply the state portion of educational funding toward private school tuition. Private schools reserve the right to restrict their enrollment through a selection committee...meaning they have no obligation to enroll a "poor student". Privates will have the luxury of enrolling whomever they choose (best students, best athletes, ect...) while excluding "undesirable" applicants. If this in any way would benefit underachieving students by placing them in a better environment for them to be educated, I would wholeheartedly support it. Fact is that it's an avenue for private schools to select the most beneficial students from public education, and to be paid by taxpayers to do it.

    Spot on.

Everything you've pointed out here is lost on a lot of folks. I wouldn't hate to support something like this with my tax dollars, but private schools will just continue to admit whoever they want. And for those who are unaware, most privates are not obligated to enroll "undesirable" applicants and therefore don't.

Powell is losing their entire o-line to graduation minus one.  I wonder if they have boys to fill those shoes.  They had one of the best o-lines in the state.

Yup, that's the big question for Powell. They also lose Soles at DE, but they essentially return everyone else on offense and defense.

I think we are headed to sports moving out of the high schools. Nobody wants to pay for the schools let alone pay for others kids to play sports. Losing the school pride part will stink, but the sports will be a little better. Everybody can play right thru summer. Are there travel tennis teams?

Completely agree. Major college football is essentially already doing this, and I think this is where prep sports are inevitably headed. Makes me sad, but I get it.

Plus I think Central will be 6A soon.  They have that deal with UT where if you graduate 3.0 you go to UT for free until you blow iit.  So, they have had 2 huge freshmen classes.  2 more like that and another reclass cycle and the Bobcats will be 6A.

I didn't realize that, cat. Explains why their enrollment has increased by almost 25% since the 2017 cycle; they were on the 4A bubble back then.
