No. My understanding is Bearden would be region champion by default. Region 1 game becomes a state qualifier as they would not have an opponent for sectionals.
That's not fair to Bearden. I am not a Bearden fan but for them to have play while the Region 1 winner gets a free pass is mind boggling. Since the loser of the Region Championship was traveling anyway why not send Oak Ridge. Since Bearden is region champs Oak Ridge should be runner-ups

This was not what I was expecting either. I hate it for the kids, because this game will be a no contest, causing both teams to be disqualified from the rest of the season. Harsh, but this is punishment enough.
If its a no contest, does Oak Ridge get the other sub-state spot?

Is it. me or is it way too many state championships? The TSSAA needs to go back to 3 classes in D1 and One class in D2.

so christian bro's hasn't lost all season? i'm a lipscomb guy but this sounds like a tough draw. LA came on strong at season end and have been surprising people. fingers crossed.
their game last night was very exciting going into OT. (the LA girls went to triple OT).
Brentwood Academy is undefeated as well, and Catholic is 27-3 and on an 18 game winning streak. Their last loss was to Jonesboro Arkansas in the Arbys Classic. With Lipscomb heating up at the right time. Should be some exciting games this weekend.

We have 7 teams. Normal 1 gets a bye, 2 plays 7, 3 plays 6, 4 plays 5.
Bonehead bracket. 1 and 2 get a bye. 6 plays 7 to get to play 3 and 4 plays 5. Not sure who came up with the bracket but the other coaches or administrators should have thrown a fit.
They play like that in East Tennessee. Back in 4AAA when we had 9 teams: 1 and 2 had byes till to the semifinals. 8 played 9 the winner played 6. Then 5 played 7. Those winners played 3 and 4 and then the semifinals. Whew!!!!

Last night Catholic won their third consecutive Division II- AA East Region title. The Irish are 17-1 since re-joining D2 and earned a home quarterfinal game against the West #2 team.

It’s a shame Oak Ridge, Clinton, Maryville,Fulton, etc. won’t play Catholic. If these teams want to make a run in the state tourney, they’re going to see this type talent.
How long as it been since OR has made that long journey to Cedar Bluff?

I have no idea there, my friend? Maybe Green & the Cats are skeert?
I seriously doubt that is the reason, but would have been a good game.

Gave us a run for our money, huh? That is a really good Campbell County team. They got an inside and outside presence. I could see them causing some havoc in the district tournament. They still have an outside chance to make region if they make it to the district final, right?
SweetScience, I know Catholic played at Oak Ridge last year, do you know why they didn't play this year? Would have been nice to see the Irish play some more area teams (Catholic played West and Bearden) in a non region match-up. I think it would have been a good game considering the season both teams are having.

What school has the best schedule of games?
I'm not sure about Hall of Champions but Knoxville Catholic is playing nationally ranked Sunrise Academy from Kansas. They are going to the Arby's Classic in Bristol TN which will have nationally ranked teams and state champions from Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, New York, Texas and Arkansas. They are playing Norcross High School from GA in Atlanta; going too Memphis to play Memphis East, Bartlett, and MUS in consecutive days. They are also playing North Carolina state champs Asheville Christian as well as The Christ School.

That makes sense to me. I wonder what the process will be like to hire a new coach. Do they have someone in mind already? Are they waiting to post after the season and do their search process then? Will they hire an established head coach or a younger up-and-coming assistant who can stay for another 30 years? Will be interesting to see what area coaches show interest.
I'm sure there will be a lot of quality applicants, in state and out of state. There are two long time assistants, both former head coaches, on staff who will probably apply as well.

No argument that he has earned it, but does not seem like him to take the spotlight away from the players and have a farewell season. To be fair, I did not like that Coach K is doing the same thing this year at Duke either
I see your point but if you knew Coach Hutchens, he will never take away anything from his players. He won't mention it again this season and he wouldn't want a farewell tour. I guess he thought get it out of the way now so he can focus on the season.

Seems like odd timing to announce right before the season starts. Why would he announce now instead of in the spring?
After 40 years of coaching (33 years at KCHS) it seems to me that Coach Hutchens felt it was the time to announce it regardless of the timing. He's more than earned the right.

All D2-AAA teams make the playoffs this year. This game is about $$$, I've heard Catholic paid an obscene amount of money to get this game.
Also, the fact there are 3 teams in D2-AAA with zero wins that will get a playoff game is absolute insanity. The TSSAA and the BOC need to rethink what they are doing and why they exist.
There are only 12 teams in D2-AAA that’s why all of them make the playoffs. I think it’s ridiculous to have a classification with only 12 schools. You’re absolutely correct, the TSSAA should go back and revise this and make two classes in D2, but my opinion means very little.

Is Tamba not about to reclassify and put on the Orange?
He announced in July that he was reclassifying and signing with the Big Orange, I guess the worst kept secret in Knoxville lol. The rim protection Tamba provided will be missed. Edwards, Patterson, Warren and Cain will be called on to score more this year than last. Freshman post player Deondrea Lindsey (6"8) and returning sophomore post Alex Doerger (6'7) will have to step up and provide the Irish with an inside presence and some rebounding. Edwards led the Irish in rebounding as a PG, he just might do it again this year. The Irish schedule will be tough with so many young varsity players, they are playing nationally ranked Sunrise Christian (KS); a game in Atlanta to play Norcross; the Battle in the Bluff II Showcase in Memphis and then Arby's Classic. Some young guys will have to grow up fast.

Real simple, Josh Jones….
I seem to remember a Josh Jones coaching the Falcons Youth Football team when I was coaching Catholic Youth Football from 2006-2012. Back in those days we played for the metro title every year (going 3-4 in title games) against either Powell or the Falcons. In 2013 they had this loaded 8th grade team that beat us twice by the same score 14-8 in the regular season and the championship.
