Your comment is true. It is unusual that you see many college coaches at high school games in Tennessee. It is also very unusual to see the NPF playing games against Universities in Tennessee. But last weekend Gameday had the NPF team here playing two exhibition games against the University of Memphis and one against Ole Miss. The NPF and Memphis also teamed up and did a clinic at Gameday with over 250 athletes. These events were a great success with over 2,000 people attending both games. The events were also a first! Gameday is providing a tournament for a tri-state area that will help both local colleges and athletes. With these economic times and tighter budgets, universities are looking for opportunities to view athletes that are interested in attending their schools that require limited travel. We are taking the first 24 teams who are interested in competing against good competition and having coaches from a radius of 250 miles around the Memphis area scout your players. Why travel hundreds of miles to have your players scouted by schools they have no interest in attending? Most students go to schools within 250 miles of their homes. It was Beech who was listed outside of the top 25. the USA Today rankings come from a poll done by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. They have representatives in each state who send them weekly updated schedules with win/loss records. They are also allowed to give recommendations on strength of schedule that gives value to the win loss record. While I agree all polls are somewhat subjective, I think Ooletewah's ranking and Beech not far behind are good choices. Ooltewah is 16-2 and has played tough competition out-of-state which will add points to their strength of schedule for a national poll. Their two losses are to Comeaux, LA and just recently Soddy Daisy (which may affect their next week's rankings) they have beaten MJ and Goodpasture. If you look at Beech they are 17-2 with a loss to MJ and to Riverdale (with Kat). MJ a good team but they have six losses which makes them an inconsistent team for now, so not a bad loss for Beech. A Riverdale with Kat would have probably landed this team at the top of the polls, so not a bad loss here either. Agree or disagree it is good to have TN teams ranked

St Benedict beat Hendersonville one week prior in preseason 5-1 at the Beech Tournament, it was not the only time they played this year. St Benedict won the Beech pre-season tournament, left on Sunday drove to Texas from Nashville and played Keller, Tx ranked #1 in the nation and won, drove back to Nashville on Thursday and played in the Hendersonville Tournament and won it. There are good teams in the state of Tenessee unfortunately the rest of the softball community is not always aware of all of the potential talent that is in our state. The fact that St Benedict did this and got a ranking from it should excite other softball teams in our state. I would have a tough time questioning their ranking when their were 64 other good teams at the Hendersonville Tournament and SBA won it. The weekend before there were close to as many at the Beech Tournament and SBA won it too.
