  1. Congrats to Grace on the win.Their size really created problems for the Vikings but Humboldt had a shot to send it to OT so they fought through it all the way.Good luck to GCA the rest of the way. They have a really good team.See ya next year as I think we'll be back.

  2. No we are talking about UCDiditagain

Thanks Galilee.I feel better now.You know if Mitchell & Humboldt make it to the boro they'll put us in the same bracket. The TSSAA doesn't want an all-West Tennessee final. The same applies if it's Halls or Middleton.

  3. Where is that guy that was keeping up so much fuss about moving the games from Humboldt? Are they having open gym in UC today?

I may have accidently caused a bit of confusion here so hopefully I can clarify things.A Union City fan said that Humboldt would agree to move the region if Humboldt "had any balls".I made the comment I thought playing in college gyms was good prep for MTSU.I didn't know at the time but the gym in Popular Bluff is larger than most hs gyms & so the Vikings already had those 3 games + the district at UTM.Thanks to 87vikingalumni for making that point.I wouldn't have made the Bethel point had I known that earlier.I opened myself up for criticism on that which is why I didn't respond.I don't know if you're talking about him or me but if it's me I understand.lol

I think I mentioned I was an HHS alum in that post or at least I should have.

  4. A couple of weeks back I heard fans of different schools in the area say they thought Halls had stopped caring and were playing out the string.Well something has sure turned around now.I'm looking forward to the McKinney-Pankey matchup in the title game.Anthony Jones will be incredible if he continues to improve his game.He put on a show tonight with 5 monster slams! The Vikings outside shooting game was off tonight so let's hope that's better against Halls.Congrats to both Halls & Humboldt on moving to the championship game & securing a sub-state berth.

  5. I've said before that if I had a vote it would be to have the region at Bethel regardless of the sweep.I just think the college gym would help adapt to the atmosphere at MTSU.But,on the other hand as a HHS alum I understand the desire to play at home.I have to say it's a lot of fun to review the last 15 pages or so of this thread to see the list of subjects UC fans have brought up & then dropped when things didn't go the way they predicted.BTW,"loose" means "not tight" & "lose" means you didn't "win".

  6. The regional tournament will be at Bethel university for the semi-final & regional championship! If, 14a sweeps 13a in the first round will the tournament still be at Bethel? I know a few years ago when 14a sweep the games were switched to the 14a champion gym? So, does anybody know if that still holds true?

I've talked to a couple of people and asked if there's been anything that they've heard about moving it away from Bethel if 14-A sweeps and they said yes.Personally,I'd prefer they keep it at Bethel because I think it would give our teams a big advantage if they've played 4 post-season games in college gyms prior to the state tournament. And if they don't make it to state it'd still benefit them to play in a bigger setting.

  7. Very proud of the Vikings on how they have played all season long.I still remember watching Cookie Smith,Harold Barnes and the others turn a 9-8 start into a berth in the AA state championship game in 1981 which was my senior year.Memphis Central won 61-55 but Cookie won the MVP.I don't think that's happened since when a player on the runner-up team won it but I might be wrong on that. For personal reasons that team has always been my favorite Vikings ever, even more that team that won the A title 4 years back.BUT,this team just might take over the top spot.I was glad to see the big travel distance to Martin didn't prevent our town from making the trip to supportthe team..Reading some posts in this thread really had me worried about that.See ya at the region tournament.

  8. Why are they playing at UTM when none of the schools, from the district, are in Martin? I know UTM gym will hold more but it doesn't make since, could have played at Gibson County or Trenton, it's bad for Humboldt because they will have to drive the longest distance & they won the regular season title!!!!!!

I think it could be because the gym at Greenfield is too small to host the boys semis. It never should've been considered in the first place.Gibson County is the best place IMO but UTM is close to Greenfield so maybe that's the reason. Why not have the girls play in  Greenfield and the boys at GC?What law says the boys and girls both must play at the same place?

  9. I got the 68-66 score from the schedules of GC & UC which showed GC winning. That score has been changed to 52-41 since then.Maybe it was the girl's score I haven't checked there yet.

The 68-66 score was from the girl's game.

  10. Humboldt will not slip up, they are playing with a mission & not taking anyone lightly! Humboldt is getting better with the addition of players that were injured during football so now they have more depth heading into the tournaments! With four (4) games left, I asssure you Humboldt won't lose two games! Also, the score I just saw shows UC winning over GC!

Now I've seen conflicting scores on the game.Someone reporting it to coacht as UC winning 52-41.

  11. Humboldt 90,Peabody 74

    Gibson County 68,Union City 66

This opens up a 2 game edge for the Vikings. How much effect will this have,if any,on the Humboldt-Union City regular season finale?I thought the 14A title would be on the line but it won't unless the Vikings slip up somewhere.

  12. Humboldt vs South Fulton will be made up on Thursday, Jan 19. The Milan game will not be made up because it is a non district game.

Thank you both.I was hoping the Milan game would be played because I think everyday is a good day for Milan to lose.

  13. Humboldt put up a great fight against a 5A school & bigger players at every position, had a 6'6 point guard! Final score, Popular Bluff 84 Humboldt 82 with terrible officiating! Humboldt still got two more games to play so let's finish strong!!

I found a blog called semoball.com that had the boxscores from the quarterfinal games.Popular Bluff was 24-39 from the free throw line while Humboldt was 9-12.PB blocked a shot at the end that would've forced overtime.Terrible officiating indeed!

  14. The Post-Dispatch has an update page on the Christmas  tournaments St.Louis area teams are playing in & they're showing Jonesboro,AR 80-59 over Liberty.Cordova played Chicago Kenwood in the opening game but they don't have the score listed.

  15. The radio station in Milan that covers Peabody,Bradford,Gibson County & South Gibson is saying that the Humboldt-GC game on Tuesday has been moved to GC so renovations on the Humboldt gym can procede.

  16. Boykin has taught at Humboldt for ages.He was my freshman science teacher in 1978.His teams do play too fast a pace to suit me but they're always one of the better teams in this area.A lot of the starters also are on the football team & next year looks promising so we'll see how it goes.Congrats to the Vikings on winning the state championship this year.In my senior year at HHS we were the runners-up to Memphis Central but Cookie Smith still won the tournament MVP award.
