Grundy is a much better team than the record shows. Many distractions and injuries had the team down. You can rest assured no matter the outcome Friday Grundys' best will play thier best. This team, 6 weeks ago would never have come back against a good TC team.
It is fitting that 92% of the people are picking Macon to win. This is how Grundys' season has been. Be assured Grundy will stay in the fight, all the old scars have healed and this team will leave nothing to be doubted. They are real.
Macon looks to be having a great season and I am happy for them. May the best team win and all players leave the field with thier heads high.

Grundy PLAYERS were out in force last night. It was awesome to see that kind of EMOTION on the field. Del, you are right about the crowd that showed up. As we went on the field to bring the team out, the stands were virtually empty, almost all who showed were on the field. I know very little about Macon and know we should respect any team, but if our PLAYERS show up with this emotion next week they will be hard to beat.
Hats off to G.C. Jacket team.
Maybe my voice will be back by game time Friday.
This was a win for the team ............ as a team!!!!
Prediction? Grundy by 6 over Macon.

Bad sportsmanship should be controlled by the school. If a school allows it to happen in one sport it will likely happen in another. I have no opinion on how strong the fine is but I know if both schools make it through the probation period they will have a more diciplined program. It might be a plus for both schools after one year.
Sad, situation reguardless.

I know that this one will be a close game. Trousdale lost their quaterback and their runningback last year which were their two main players. Grundy lost two players also this year from injuries which they were pride pushers too. They also lost a pretty good line from last year. Luckily the GC Jackets have overcome their teammates injuries and have played without them the majority of the season, so they are ready to play. I think GC over TC by 3.
"Without Joey they are hurting but this team will find a way to win. It will be an odd season for Grundy but they will overcome."
I made this statement following the W.V. game early in the season. Joey has never doubted his teamates capabilities this season. I know he wants to be on the field and watching him come home from practice everyday on crutches has been painful. Joey's wish all spring was to get another shot @ T.C.
Grundy went through alot as a team this year and those kids have stood up to the test. The talent on this team is deep and they have shown heart down the stretch. I think they have found out how to win with the cards they were delt.
Lets go Grundy, dig deep and show em what players are made of.
Grundy wins this one for the team as a team. G.C. by 6

How do we know better? Do you know me? Have you spent time with me? Have you sat in a foxhole with me in a war zone? You are assuming you know what is in my head and my heart.
Do you know what happens when you assume?
Maybe you can pinpoint what I'm saying that you think is so racist.
If I cared what you thought of me I'd provide you with a list of names who can refute what you're thinking. But since that really doesn't matter in the big picture of my life I won't.
Del.
Well said Del.
I think that pirate1achamps is the one who is showing predjudice, by not listening to your remarks. I also looked at your post several times. I know you are stating facts because I was at that game two years ago. I had two children playing and one in the stands. As we left the game I walked across the field. Players fans, and coaches were fighting.
If pirate1achamps feels your remarks are predjudice then He/She is making assumptions. I would not want to venture into any stadium that has the reckless, and threatening enviroment as the one I saw two years ago.
I hope what happened with the bus was reported and that precautions are taken this year.
I also know that this has never been the situation when Howard or any other school comes to Grundy.
Say it like you see it!!!!

Del Tavian, you sound too much like someone that is from a predjudice city....I am offended by your comments....you owe this board and apology
What Del said about playing at Howard is right on the Money.
How is it predjudice?

I say little ole Boyd will put a lickin on everybody else they play. They are a very well coached team.
I agree with what you say , with the exception of South Pittsburg. They are real, and I see them giving you (Boyd) a mouth full. Take my word south pitt over Boyd by 14.
Walker Valley deserved the win at Grundy. I think they are much improved, but Grundy didn't play at the level they are capable of. I am not taking anything away from Walker but Grundy has enough talent to go the distance. Without Joey they are hurting but this team will find a way to win. It will be an odd season for Grundy but they will overcome.

I guess the KC (coach) band wagon is getting smaller. Oh by the way not many teams go for the win on their first TD in overtime at home. Why?
I think the team wanted to go for two. Dosen't matter now.
I respect K.C. as a coach and think it was the right time to try for the win. Grundy lost the game long before that attempt. I think alot of coaches want to do this and are afraid they will lose support if they do not make it. Going for two is what makes K.C. a winner in my book. Yes he lost this one but he did it doing what most are afraid to try.

Grundy needs to dig deep and find where the heart is for this team. They have alot of talent and its my opinion that some Seniors need to step up and play like winners every play. I am not bad mouthing anyone on the team, they just need to play more as a team. Some of the intensity is there but it comes and goes. Somone needs to light that fire every play!!!!!
Walker Valley TOOK the win. Hats off to a much improved program.
Very gutsy call at the end to go for the win, its what I thought we should do.

Harriman is terrible . No win this year and maybe next. Dont take up for Harriman they dont deserve it. Zach is a terrible football player and has no heart. Wont win with kids like that.
It is people like you that soil the boards. Keep comments about individuals to yourself. Your mother should have taught you better. I can assure you life will. Shut up!!!!

Howard hands down is the worst place to play. I have seen brawls between players and fans. I have seen weapons flashed. I saw a bus attacked.
The band outnumbers the entire fan section until the forth quarter when the gates are opened.
I video taped brawls between football players two years ago, the fights were against thier own team mates and then fans got involved, sad sight.

The last home game I went to left me setting next to a lady with a very large bell. She rang it constantly. Every play. I pleaded with her to stop and she refused. I asked her to ring it a little less again she refused. I explained to her one more time and I would take drastic measures, which I did
I slept on the couch that night .
I am still trying to find where she is hiding that _____bell!

what exactly happened to his knee...?
Joey tore his ACL, and meniscus.
He had ACL replacement surgery today and is doing fine. All went well. He should be fully recovered in 6 to 9 months.
University Orthopedics and Erlanger are top Notch.
Joey has some great pictures to show his friends. The surgeon took pictures of the inside of his knee and reviewed each step of the operation with us.
Thanks for your Prayers.

When I first viewed this thread, my sense was that Del's comment
was meant to be tongue in cheek. We in this country have become
the "United States of the easily offended". One of the subsequent
posts definitely falls into this category.
I think that Del makes a good point. Many of these situations are
being taken to an absurd extreme. The framers of the Constitution
were not looking for freedom from God. The goal was to insure that
the Federal government did not establish a state religion. One can
find multitudes of reputable Constitutional scholars that disagree with
the ACLU interpretation of "separation of Church and State".
Many times the "separation" argument is used as an easy excuse to
mask the real issue or as a means of attempting "freedom from morality".

You know I thought I hated that whistle when they beat Grundy some years ago, but it is something else about Portland that bothers me. I have never seen such a rude atmosphere with the exception of Howard High.
We were treated much better at the creekbank last year. I wish for the day that Portland and Grundy are matched up on the mountain. Win or lose it would be one for the books.
Congrats Jacket fans.

The "Oh God, it's God Again" Case
The facts for this discussion come from an article carried on World Net Daily, on the Internet, on 25 September, 2002. It concerns the effort by a school to prevent a church from supporting the school's fund-raising efforts.
The ACLU is definitely not involved in this particular case. However, it is quite clear from other ACLU cases that it would support the position taken by the school.
River Bend Middle School in Oxford, North Carolina, invited organizations in its community to support the school by taking out ads to be posted along the fence of its athletic field. Oxford Baptist Church decided this was a good project to support, and offered the set fee of $300 to put up a sign that said "Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God," I Corinthians 10:31. It also would have identified the church as the sponsor.
Without giving reasons, the school refused the church's offer. Seeing this as a discrimination against a community organization which was a church, rather than a car-wash or pizza parlor, the church filed suit in the US Western District of North Carolina, to get its offer accepted. The Alliance Defense Fund took up the cause of the Church. Its lead counsel, Benjamin Bull, said, "The school district doesn't want mere separation of church and state. It wants the segregation of church and state." And he said, "The school board has no right to censor the church's sign. There are absolutely no constitutional grounds for the principal or the school board to segregate the church and its speech from the forum of the athletic field."
The principal of the school, who is named in the suit, declined to comment. He referred questions to the superintendent's office for the Catawba County School District. A spokeswoman for the District said, "We don't really have a comment. It's a legal issue."
* * *
Normally, it is the ACLU and its associates who are filing suit to knock out all public mention of the word "God" in any form. Here, however, is the reverse. A church which wants to be a good citizen in its local community seeks to particulate, as requested, in a commendable fund-raising effort for a local school, but is rebuffed because the school doesn't want the word "God" to appear on its grounds.
Although this case is the reverse of most cases, the logic is the same. The first error of those who seek to prevent all mentions of "God" in public, is that the Constitution does not contain the phrase "separation of church and state." That appears only in a letter from Thomas Jefferson to a friend, and in context even Jefferson did not mean what the Supreme Court twisted his words to mean. Jefferson, like the precise language of the Constitution itself, only wanted no discrimination by the state in favor of, or against, any particular religious sect or set of beliefs.
The other error of the opposition is to assume that the appearance of the word "God" in public is the endorsement of any particular religious view. If this were true, the marble of the Supreme Court building itself would have to be rechiseled. But this approach is particularly absurd in this case.
No one is suggesting that the school is "officially endorsing" Domino's Pizza, or Jiffy-Lube, or any of the other sponsors of advertisements for $300 each, on the school's athletic field. To all but the lamest of observers, the school is simply recognizing those who cared enough to put money in the till from the private sector, to assist the school.
The sad irony is, the school will waste the entire proceeds of its fund-raising effort, in its attempt to prevent a church from extending it a helping hand. It is just one more example of how those who neither know nor respect the true heritage of religious freedom in the United States are savaging the very

Looking at both sides.Separation Of Church And State
-
The only people who came up w/ it were our founding fathers. Del, why don't you get in w/ Jerry Falwell, John Ashcroft, and all your intolerant Republican friends and spit on the Constitution of the United States. Because that is what in essence you are doing.
Our founding fathers would be shocked at the state of our country today. "In God We Trust" printed on our money and we can't have the ten commandments in some state capitals.
Would our Founding Fathers allow a draft dodger to be president? Would they support same sex couples? Would they allow homosexuality to be taught in schools?
I find that all to often people want to refer to the constitution for how they see it, and not what it was intended to be. Our fathers saw that god was part of the constitution.
