  2. Alcoa is a great team, but they are honestly not the best team in the state through classifications. I would say Oakland, Riverdale, Franklin, Brentwood, Blackman, Henry Co. are all most likely better with the former more likely than the later. BUT I know FOR SURE that Ensworth and MUS would hammer Alcoa. Especially MUS who could probably even beat a college team and Ensworth who is right on their tails. You might be the best in your world but when you come to play with the big boys you get smashed.

Whoa whoa, while I agree that MUS is probably the most complete high school team in state, it's ludicrous to suggest the Owl's would even compete with a D-1 university.

Alcoa has a fine football team and in my opinion is one of the top 3 teams in the state, along with Ensworth and MUS. I think an Alcoa/Ensworth game would be an excellent contest as they share similar styles and strengths, though I give Alcoa a slight advantage due to the fact Ensworth doesn't have a kicking game. The Tornadoes would have a more difficult time planning for MUS, as the Owl's can do it all. They rush and pass with equal skill and have special teams play that is more than adequate. The defense is smallish at the line, but play extremely disciplined football, and have held several of the best backs in the South(Keyshaun Shipp,Nicholas Parker,Jonathan Brown) to modest days. I'm sure it would be a one heck of a ball game, but I believe MUS would come away the victor.

  3. I'm not really familiar with the Bowers guy. Where was he before Ensworth? Also, I read in an article on the DII boards that Ensworth got a guy in this year that had to sit out this season. People are claiming him to be the next John Henderson. I believe he's either a Sophomore or a Junior right now. According to that article and people talking in there, he's supposed to be the absolute real deal.

Ricky Bowers coached at MBA prior to joining Ensworth, and Antonio Richardson sat out last year and is playing(quite well)this year for Ensworth.

  4. I didn't see a lot of Randall Cobb when he played at Alcoa, but I have seen him do well at Kentucky and being an impact player at an SEC school is quite an achievement.

I have however seen a lot of Barry Brunetti, earlier this year he was named one of ESPNs Elite 11 quarterbacks and is on the watch list for M a x P r e p s National Player of the Year award. Brunetti's stats thus far have been quite excellent, he has accounted for 26 touchdowns and 0 turnovers(18 passing/8 rushing).

Mind boggling stat for MUS..3 turnovers though 9 games, 2 bad snaps(back-up Qb was in)and a muffed punt...that is a level of execution I have never seen in high school.

  5. MUS- 38

    CBHS- 13

The problems associated with a wet ball may result in this one being closer than it should be. Given that this game will be played on a nice surface, MUS's offensive scheme, speed, and talent, should prove to be too much for CBHS. CBHS's Jonathon Brown will have to have a huge game, superman-like, on offense (at running back) for CBHS to have a chance in this game. And for that to happen, CBHS will have to have some success in its passing game. Not going to happen :roflolk:

Nice call :popcorneater: Final score MUS 38 CBHS 14.
  6. Big red big blue - sorry, I had to go to a doctor's appointment and didn't finish my earlier response.

Originally, the boy's parents had argued to the TSSAA that their son was transferring for academic reasons on the advice of his public school principal (and had a letter documenting this) and therefor their son should not be in effect punished athletically for transferring. This is why the TSSAA had decided in his favor. The HS principal had enough clout to get the issue reopened two years later under the circumstances I already have described. Moreover, even if there had been an established rule like you described, the boy had played only football at the public school. The principal wanted him barred from all sports for the entire year.

Anyway, all's well that end's well. The boy got his "learning problem" corrected at MUS and has prospered. Dad is now a multimillionaire who generously supports his son's alma maters. He still lives within "walking distance" of the public school which caused the problem and has nothing to do with them, though he has run into the MS principal who directed his son to MUS and expressed his thanks for that phone call he got years ago.

Sounds like Germantown and Ernest Chism.

  7. Even I could build a pretty good team around Memphis if I could recruit and have nice facilities
:D Recruitment allegations are rather cliché, perhaps in further aspersions you focus on the school colors or maybe the mascot. :D

All I can say is WOW!. Probably one of the best High School Football teams I have ever seen play. They looked like a college team to tell you the truth. Big, fast, and very well coached and they showed a lot of class last night playing St. Benedict. I can see how now they went to South Panola's own home field and beat them. Way to represent Tennessee football boys.

The Owls have a good football team this year, next weeks rivalry game against CBHS should be quite the contest.

  8. I agree that WS will give MUS a run for the money, especially if the Owls don't pressure the QB any better than they did against East. I think WS will score 14-35 points, depending on the above. BUT MUS will score at least 35 and win.

You've got me curious now owlbooster. You mean to tell me that MUS isn't getting much of a pass rush on the opposing QB ... or that they didn't against East? I know S.P. came back on you guys via the pass. The same for O.B. if I am correct. But both of those teams were your basic old fashioned "My lineman are bigger then your linemen and we are going to just line up and bowl you over" type of teams. But East is a different type of team altogether aren't they? WHS kind of fits more into the 'East' type of team then they do to 'S.P. or O.B.' type of team. I can see your reason for concern. I just don't know if coach Rutherford will commit enough to the passing game to make MUS change their defensive philosophy because he is going to want to stay balanced with the run verses the pass. If he decides to tip the scale say .... 60 pass / 40 run ... well ... do you think that things could get interesting?

South Panola did nothing in air, all runs by Parker and Market. Olive Branch didn't get much in the air until about 4 minutes left in game via a long screen pass to Shipp. The Owls had a good pass rush against East, but Jazzy is very difficult to sack, as I'm sure White Station will also attest.

MUS also has McBride back, he looked very good in limited action last Friday.

  9. So did Buffy and Biff cry when they lost? Did their maids and butlers wipe their tears? Way to go D-1.

On the radio tonight they said Ensworth was the best team in the state. :thumb:

The Coach T scoreboard is incorrect, Ensworth won in overtime 36 - 34, as for best team in the state I would think Alcoa and MUS would be at the top in most discussions.
