  1. I guess taking a knee like most teams do was too much work, than a QB dancing around showing up an opponent which led to the push from BA.........

always remember the play before...............the actual events.

take a knee and this thread doesn't exist, game over....

  2. When Metro went to Comprehensive schools, it killed the neighborhood rivalries and small knit communities. Now the schools are a bunch of failing, disfunctional academic institutions that is more of a circus or zoo than school.

    Couldn't agree more. I agree 100% w/that.

McGavock's zone goes from Lafayette street right by downtown to the county line/wilson county.

Another issue with metro........school board and higher up decision making always adversely affects sports..............no thought put into how their decisions affect sports....

Most recently not allowing 5th and 6th graders play middle school sports at metro middle schools. All county and privates have 7th grade and 8th grade teams on top of 5th/6th grade teams..............

it is a LONG list of scenarious of whats wrong w/Metro school sports......

I was told the Hunters Lane principal wanted to know why the boys team needed more than 2 basketballs.........varsity......non sports minded principals don't help either....

  3. Most people on the outside realize the unique dynamics of a metro job and leave if they take a metro job. It is the reason so many Metro principals hire metro. If you have been in Metro you understand what you are getting yourself into. I went to WC fro 86-90. Hiring from Outside does not guarantee success.

Yes Scott Blade won at Hillsboro, but he got the heck out of dodge.

Metro's talent comes and goes in cycles, there is NO or very little parental support. These kids don't give a crap if Coach K/Phil Jackson is coaching. The streets are where they are. When I went to WC people played to avoid the streets. Now People avoid sports like the plague. When Law was at WC his team went to the Final Four in Football, but yet they had to wait on their best player before they left for Greeneville. He was busy doing non football related recreation.

For those on the outside talking about hiring. It is much more than hiring. WC has gone through several football coaches since Coure stepped down, the one plus he stayed on as an asst.

There are bigger problems at WC than hiring on the outside. As bigchief said the last 2 freshman bball teams were awful/good kids though. But good kids don't win you games. They haven't had Freshman football in 2 yrs. Most outside guys county/private are used to great boosters and support from the community. Good luck w/that at WC.....

The most important part of Larks resume is he is in the bldg and KNOWS what to expect. That is why they hire metro........in my opinion.....

  4. A little bit about the game. From what I have read we will lose the game on FG kicking alone. We HAVE NO kicker!! We will go for TWO every time!!

As far as the roster #1, #2, and #3 are the big play threats. #2 is pretty special if he gets in the open field he will probably score.

Overall WC is nothing you haven't seen already in Red Bank or Brainerd for that matter. Each game is separate. Hopefully Greeneville has an off day. Lots of turnovers and comes out flat.

  5. Hello all Greeneville fans! It is a pleasure to get on here and converse with the group. I won't get on here and trash talk because I think it is a great accomplishment for both teams to get this far. I'll clear up some of the conversation that has been shared so far.

Yes WC's band is probably similar to Brainerd so you might want to cover the grandkids eyes. :roflolk:

WC is a very Jekyl and Hyde team? Coming off thxgiving and no school for two days is not good for us. I'm not making excuses, it is what it is. IF we win, we win. IF we lose, we lose.

From what I can gather Greeneville is an outstanding team. The fans on the board have been great unlike the one Red Bank fan who has trashed all teams that have more than one loss. All that matters is who wins the last game..................

After my Cobras got humbled in basketball 3 yrs ago by Maryville, I will NEVER underestimate an East TN team in any sport.

BTW, the cornerback you are referring to is Jamie Graham, who is playing at Vandy right now and won't be able to help us.

A few notable alumni from WC are Shelton Quarles he played on the Tampa Bay Bucs Superbowl Team.

Jeff Powell 1986 UT sugar bowl Team. Frank Omiyale (TN Tech) Chicago Bears.

Good Luck to both teams. I won't be able to make the trip to Greeneville. So I'll be keeping an eye on the message boards for updates.

  6. Overton will be decent next year and very good in two yrs. They have a very talented backcourt that will be there for the next three yrs. I'm sure Coach Reed was torn. HE finally gets a team with talent and this job comes available. He will get more consistant talent at Cane Ridge, which is why he probably left. Mark my words when this group becomes seniors they will be the team to beat in Metro. They have a dynamic point guard who excels at baseball as well and a D1 shooting guard who will both be sophomores next yr. They will take their lumps next yr, but their jr and sr yrs watchout. Then I expect Overton go back to the usual........

  7. The process of the officials getting to the state tourney is as follows:

    1. The state supervisor over the local association picks 3-5 officials. He sends them to the state office T$$AA.

    2. The T$$AA ask for schedules of these officials.

    3. A representative from the T$$AA secretly comes and watches the officials work.

    4. Then the T$$AA contacts the state supervisor to tell who was nominated to work the state tourney.

    5. The official(s) work a sub-state games as the referee in the women or men side.

    6. The officials know who is going to the state about 3 weeks before the tourney starts.

The officials are picked based on merit, work during the regular season.

Yes I was an officials for 25 years in basketball and football.

The officiating was terrible last year.

Basically whoever kisses the supervisors butt during the year or whoever the supervisor likes gets recommended to work the state tourney. So the best officials aren't selected.

THe other issue is chemistry, putting individual refs together suddenly expecting magic is a joke. U don't pick the teams and then mix and match teams and play for a state title so why do they put refs together at random. Coaches should recommend officials then a neutral party from another state should review tape and recommend officials.

The other issue is supervisors, most of them weren't good officials themselves. Most good officials aren't willing to kiss butt to work a state tourney game.

  8. CHOKE NOELLER TO THE RESCUE

HEY WHITES CREEK FANS LOVED THIS ONE!!!

    CAN'T WAIT TIL TONIGHTS GAMES

HOW COULD ANTIOCH NOT DEFEAT THE STARS?

MOST TALENTED TEAM HERE IN "CASHVILLE" SINCE 81

LOL...................I like that name Choke Nollner, lol. Now I know why the Creek hadn't won a c'ship.

And to echo McNine, I agree. Antioch never pushed the tempo. It was evident, Siegel was prepared for the 2-3 zone. He tried a halfcourt trap which had little success in the 4th quarter. That game looked eerily similar to last yr WC vs. Maryville.

Antioch made NO adjustments after halftime.

  9. Manassas has the advantage of pounding the ball inside to a big man. He will get close shots. The arena is not a shooters gym. It doesn't have the typical backgound most HS gyms have. Also the college court (94 ft) tends to make legs a little weary come 4th quarter. If UC gets to Sat. that will be 3 games in 4 days on 94 ft. Not good for a team depending on 3's...................but it didn't stop them last yr. I like manassas chances with a big man and no one to stop him on UC.

  10. You know, the mercy rule is one of the worst ideas ever brought to the sporting world outside of the diamond. Football is debatable.

You're talking about two teams in the Sweet 16 of Class AAA. Obvioulsy Wilson Central was in over their head, but why all of a sudden should there be a mercy rule just because Antioch is THAT good? In AA, Austin-East clobbered Unicoi County 72-29 on the road and there's not a lot of talk about a mercy rule.

The run rule in diamond sports is not set in stone, but is a gentleman's agreement between coaches during the time they swap lineup cards...and at that once you get to a certain level there is no run rule. Football in Tennessee now has a 35-point lead mercy rule where the clock keeps going. The similarity is that football and baseballl/softball have possessions or innings for the trailing team to actually get something else for themselves...but only in baseball/softball can a trailing team have a big rally to take the run rule out of effect. In football 8 points is the most a team can score on any one possession...and I can't remember if the rule gives a provision to put normal rule back in when the margin is less than 35.

Anyway, putting in a mercy rule is stupid in basketball. It is constant flow for the most part except for out of bounds plays and fouls. Wilson Central is probably pretty embarrassed about getting dinged like that, but at least they got to play on Monday. There were a ton of schools that didn't play in that game for a shot to go to the 'Boro.

The mercy rule was definitely needed on this night. WC's bench was a huge dropoff from their starters. Antioch's bench was better than WC's starters. Antioch would've scored 100 pts, with 10 more dunks if not for the mercy rule. WC was hacking for no reason and undercutting as early as the 3rd quarter. The mercy rule allows coaches who are winning to pull starters without worry. I think the mercy rule is needed. Do you think fans, refs, and teams want to sit through a 60 point drubbing, why prolong the inevitable. WC was ready to get out of there.

  11. Its hard to bet against the Memphis teams, no doubt. But, after what I saw out of Antioch last night, you better have two or three guys that can stroke it from long range, because if you go down low against those giants they have, its going to be a beat party.

If Antioch can get some good guard play out of somebody other than Upton, they probably have all the pieces to win in the Boro. They are long and mobile and play a zone most teams can't figure out. Williams is the key to that team. If he can stroke three or four long ones a game to make teams honest, Antioch is about unbeatable.

You have to shoot the three ball well to beat them.

    Well said.

  12. I actually like Oak Ridges chances against Antioch. You can not beat Antioch in a half court set. Oak Ridge presses the entire game. Antioch likes to play a big line up and sit back in a 2-3 matchup zone and dare you to shoot them out of it. Brentwood did, but couldn't sustain the attack. Antioch's front court goes 6-8, 6-7, 6-5. With 6-4 and coming off the bench for the rotation. You better hit because long shots cause long rebounds and yep you guessed it, Antioch gets the rebounds outlet passes for an alley oop and easy dunk............next thing you know they are up 10 and you start rushing shots. Cancel anything inside, too many trees.

White Station will be a hard matchup too, because Joe Johnson will be able to penetrate and lucky for him he has a big man to dish too, because his shot will get swatted.

  13. Interesting....... I've never seen you post anything about ..

Gerald Roberson getting too much playing time,

Tyrone Caldwell (Clarksville HS) getting too much playing time..

Tyler Cutter (Siegal HS) getting to much playing time,

Don Woods (McGavock HS) getting too much playing time,

Jamie Graham (WSHS) too much playing time,

Drew Kelly (Centennial) to much playing time,

    Demario Williams (Culleoka)

and this list could go on and on . My point is Kyle is the leader of our team just as Jamie Graham, Caldwell, Roberson and other guards are on their team. Kyle is dependable on both ends of the court offensively and defensively. Besides if your a true Cobra Fan then I know you are familiar with Coach Nollner's system of coaching. He will only normally go 7 players deep. As tournament time looms near he will be relying heavily on his more experienced players.

It simply amazes me that when Antioch HS does not blow a team out they are doomed to loose. After you have played a team 3 times they should come up with a better strategy or they need to look for a new coach. We have beat them by 26, 18 and 7. Hunters Lane is not a garbage team, they have some good quality players and Henly is an asset on any team. In regards to the officiating. It was terrible as usual.

Thats why they won't win it all, his system has failed over and over and over at the state tourney. Jamie was worn out at the state tourney, because of so many minutes all yr. And against maryville, quite frankly ran out of gas in the end. Upton can play all he wants, but in blow outs the understudies need to be groomed..................You'll see....................

and by the way none of those players have one a state title....
