1. That is incorrect!  The TSSAA says recruiting is NOT ALLOWED by ANY SCHOOL!

Has nothing to do with public or private. They just will not enforce the rule. If they did many private AND public schools would be in trouble.

I was told by a prominent person within the TSSAA, that they have more problems with public schools recriuiting than private, particularly in Memphis. Unfortunately the publics only see one side. B):P

  2. Looking for some information on middle school teams in the mid state area. Am considering starting a program in the Sumner Co area but don't know who else plays. I'm guessing some of the privates have teams...Goodpasture, Davidson maybe.

Is the skill level very good? or do they have kids just getting started?

    Tell me what you know.

    Much appreciated.

Most of the schools in Williamson County as well as the privates have programs.

  3. Here comes my biased views, Corbin Walker deserves to be on there he in my opinion is just as good as boyette, he splits time in travel with kahn from ravenwood who made 3rd team (which is garbage too, hes better than boyette) and then also Chris Rowe deserves credit as well. I was surprised to not see Lazear either. Also, Taylor Smith deserves better than 3rd team. Ogilvie is the right pick for player of the year no disagreeing there and the rest of the first team seems legit. Rodney is a great keeper, but its easy to win when you have the 10 guys in front of you that he does, thats why i think walker deserves some credit

Very well put. There is always good players on bad or average teams that do not get recognized enough. The keeper BA had before Walker was in the same situation. The one I never did understand though was the keeper BGA had (Will walton I think). He was all-state on a good team but never made any of the mid-state teams.:)

  4. don't you mean nashville area all-star team because if you are not from williamson, davidson or sumner counties you get excluded should have been at least 2 more from blackman 1 from riverdale, tullahoma and cookville i long for the days when it was divided into classes but u guess the guy is to lazy to do that

Not to imply that the ones on this years team does not deserve to be there, but historically most players on the 1st team midstate team come strictly from teams who made it to state. This year was ther was only one exception. Case in point, there have been players make all-state two years in a row and sign D-1 and not even make 3rd team all midstate. It happens every year. IMO it is because for the most part it is picked by the sports writers ( mainly the Tennessean ). Most of the time they are obviously covering the better teams. As I stated before I am not saying these players did not deserve this honor. Only that as always happens, there are players left out that should not be.

  5. All of the LA boys are going to UT, i know that they don't have a soccer team, but there has been rumors of UT starting a boys soccer program.  We heard this from an athletic trainer for the Vols.

    825685898

UT has been saying they will have a team for the past eight years. So don't count on it.

  6. Like I said I am one of the TSSAA officials and I know the money is not good cry from officials. You are telling me that $50 for an eighty-minute game is not enough? Where can you find a job that pays you $37.50 an hour? Please do not tell me that the travel is an issue. Does your job pay you to travel to work and back? If they do then you are one of the lucky 2% in United States population. What do the officials do it for? If it is not the money why do they complain when they get their W-2 in the mail in January? I agree some do it because they love the game, usually you will find those guys doing games in the local rec park in the fields of U-10. If officiating was for free then we will see how many guys or gals you would have out there because they love the game.

Coaches can also complain about pay but truly the only people that do it for FREE are the KIDS. They get no money although everyone else that is involved does, officials, coaches, schools, and TSSAA. It sounds to me as an exploitation of young children. What do you think?

If an official of any high school sport that is in it for the money then he/she needs to find another part time job!!! We do not need them. I've said my peace.

  7. Poof, you just appear at the field and then poof, appear at home when the game is over?

Expectation, arrive at match site 30 min before the match.  I work in a metropolitan area.  30 min. commute to most matches, 1 hour plus to ~25% of matches.  So 6:00 PM match (Because the soccer team can't have lights on the field or can't use the Football filed "gasp")  30 min. commute, 30 min. pre-match arrival time, allow extra ~20 min. to avoid trafic.  Work 40 min half, allow 10 min half time, work 40 min half.  commute ~ 30 min.  home.  Total 3 hour average per game worked.

    40 "round trip" miles x $.37 per mile $14.80 Cost to get to match.  $50 - 14.80 = $35.20 divieded by 3 hours = 11.73 average per hour required.

$50 to TSSAA, $40 to local association, $80 per year to have Sports Liabiltiy Insurance.  4 Jerseys at $45 each, Shorts $30, Socks $8, Black Turf Shoes $65.  Total $373.00

Employer who does not like you leaving early ;) , spouse who does not like you arriving late.

Please! don't try to sell the idea that "most" officials "are only in it for the money".

    825683401

Very well put. Thank you. :D

  8. ok well are defense must have been pretty good making it to the final 4 of state. while you where at home ok. well yeah we did get out of controlbut 3 of the 4 reds where double yellows and my red card was for stepping on teh field to control a player. one kid got 1 yellow for a hard tackle and his next for taunting people on the sidelines. 1 red car was deserving the other 3 where not. so why dont you get all the facts before you talk about it. so you can talk all you want it dont bother me cause i know you where at home while i was in memphis.

    This is really sad. :ph34r::P

  9. I agree with you but that will never happen. Almost everything that has to do with TSSAA is very political. TSSAA does not even try to find out who the best refs are. They do not care about the official's knowledge or what the coaches have to say about the officials. Officials have no accountability so they do not care about their calls and about the cards they issue to players or coaches. I am sure since I was a coach and I am a TSSAA/USSF official that there is no interest from TSSAA on what officials' knowledge is. They bring guys to Memphis that NEVER played the game, or cannot keep up with the game. We all know the advantage call but the rule does not say anything about waiting 20-30 seconds to make a call or a no call. It is simply poor officiating since the center official did not "glance" on the assistant's side and poor mechanics. Should he be there then if he has poor mechanics? The answer is a very emphatic NO. If TSSAA were doing their job correctly they would have someone on staff to evaluate officials over the regular season and pick the best to represent TSSAA at the finals. I don't agree that every officials association needs to have a representative crew at the finals. That is not fair to the coaches, players or the parents / fans. I am not basing on the officials at all; I think that TSSAA is poorly run by the "good old boy system" that needs to be replaced for this state to advance to the next level of competition.

    825683348

Making a blanket statement that the officials "do not care about their calls and about the cards they issue" is completely uncalled for. You stated that you are a former coach and current TSSAA/USSF official. Your statement shows me that you are completely unqualified to officiate any kind of game. You, better than anyone, should know that the first thing you learn at any level is not to criticize your fellow officials in a public forum. You are the type of official the TSSAA does not need regardless of how good you are.:P

Like it or not, the TSSAA has always tried to include every association throughout the state for tournaments. Also it makes me wonder how many officials turned the TSSAA down because of travel concerns and work. Besides, believe it or not, very few officials do this for the money. The money is just not that good.

  11. those same refs are at the state tourny

    825682577

If somebody, TSSAA and coaches, did not think the officials are good then I can assure you they would not be in Memphis. Keep in mind the TSSAA gets a lot of imput from coaches and supervisors in making their selections.

  12. I would rate McMinn County's performance in the state tournament the last few years as dissappointing.  They are underachievers.  For the last three years they have had arguably the best talent in the state.  Unfortunatly they cannot put it together when it counts.  They rely too much on athleticism and have no sense of organization.  Maybe instead of beating people 17-0 in the regular season they should use those games to get better.  Maybe possess the ball a bit,  work on something that will help you when the time comes to face a Hendersonville.  In all honesty they were outplayed by Soddy Daisy and didn't look great against Cookeville.  I would certainly rate the season's end as dissappointing but predictable.  Who is to blame? Thoughts?

    825682539

Not to put him down but; I have seen many post praising their coach. However, from your post it sounds like more of a coaching problem. :)

  13. I didn't graduate in '75 and I'm far from ready for or worthy of retirement.  Nevertheless, it's the first time I've missed the tournament in 5 years and I am sorry I am missing it.  I, too, think the tournament needs to either move to the Middle every year or rotate to the East every three years.  The drive from UpperEast Tn. to Memphis is nearly the same as a drive to Philadelphia, Pa.  That really is a heavy travel and cost burden to place on the East teams every year.  For soccer, though, it will be very difficult to compete with the Mike Rose Complex.  Even when its not at its best, it beats the soccer facilities in East Tennessee badly and these games deserve proper fields.

    825682541

Does East Tennessee have any fields ( complex ) at all that is capable of holding the state?

  14. Ignore coulibaly, but BA has a player named David Varn he is #5 and Vaughn is #7, his name is actually Will Vaughn, not David Vaughn, but neither are D 1 they are both good players, but not D1

    825677630

Your're right. Sorry about that. B)

  15. Are there club teams at the collegiate level?

    825677738

Yes. Most if not all SEC teams that do not sanction soccer have club teams. I'm not sure about some of the smaller schools.

  16. There is no doubt in my mind that BA is the most overrated team in the state. They have no talent and the coaching is barely adequate. If they come within 3 goals of Father Ryan I will be surprised. David Varn is probably the only D-1 player on their team, so I don't see them doing much after today. Good luck everyone.

    Galatians 6:13

    825675656

You just showed your total ignorance of soccer. David Vaughn is not even close to being a D-1 player. If nothing else you've proved that by the way tried to you spell his name. Randy Johnson spent over 20 years coaching at the college level. And you say that their coaching is barely adequate. BA is not the most talented team, everyone knows that. Every year they find themselves in this position and one of thes days they are going to break through.

  17. you can never say that BA dominates a game...they dont play soccer if you could say...against any good team with offense and defense they cant produce anything because they pack it in the back...so ur gonna need the luck against Father Ryan

    825673111

When and where is the BA - FR game?
