Again, the game that was pointed out was an AAU north middle sub-state game. You play them as they come. In regards to finding competition, the 14U Team Pride played the 15U Adidas tourney in Raleigh NC, and is playing in a NIKE Tourney in Lousiana (?I think?). They will play the AAU State and should meet some of the fine teams from west Tennessee, as well as East Tennessee. Hopefully, they will qualify for the AAU National and meet some more great teams there. I know that Tiffany would love to see the girls win a National Championship, but there is a lot of ground to cover first.

I have no ambition to gain your agreement with me. You accused Tiffany of being an indecent person because of the outcome of the game. I merely took the opportunity to offer an explaination of what occurred from a Team Pride prespective, in as much as you offer your thoughts from a Knight's prespective. Team Pride has the right to take something away from the game. It wasn't the Knight's game and Team Pride just showed up. Pride paid the same amount for the game as the Knights and this is the competition that Pride got... not worth the money spent. So, as a coach, you try to take something of worth away fom the game. What you do not understand is that Tiffany did hold her team back an enormous amount due to her sympathy in what was occuring, or as you say, in a manner of decency. If she played her first team the entire way without a full court press, the score might have been much, much worse. You should actually be thankful that the score was not worse than it was. Now, I suppose you would like for me to give *you* the ball for an easy lay-up, because you will see this post as being much too harsh.

The reason that Tiffany’s 14U Team Pride ran a press during the first half with her girls that do not get as much court time as other girls is so that they could gain a better understanding of court position in a game environment. It is one thing to play with intensity, it is completely another to play with an understanding of where you are suppose to be during a set. For game such as this one, you can only hope that the girls playing gain this understanding regardless of the competition. These girls might not get this real game experience with a team more in line with our so-called first team. Furthermore, you cannot play against yourself all the time. I have no knowledge of the Knights or how that got to this game. It would be my hope that during this game, they gained a better understanding of how this level of basketball is played, and take back something to improve their game. I wish them all the best! Regardless, the game is over, and Tiffany is still working on making each one of the girls on her team a better player. Isn’t that what AAU is suppose to be about?

First of all...there was no choice in who she played. This was the first game of the the 14U AAU North Middle Substate. The opposing team should have selected the "B" league. You have to play the games as they come. Secondly... there is a 30-second clock. What is she suppose to do... tell her kids to go out and give the ball to the other team for an easy lay-up so that the opposing team will feel good about her. Are you serious? Thirdly... this game hurt them more than helped them. When they got to the Adidas Tournament, the girls were a little too cocky and went 3-2. They lost to two 15U teams... but could have won both if they had more focus. When Tiifany's 2004 16U Team Pride team play The Stars that had Cait McMahon and all the greats, we beat them so badly for State that they held the ball for the entire 30-second clock at the end just to keep us from scoring 100 points. .... so now what!?!?!

Okay... I started this thread... then had a complete hard drive crash... lost my job.. the AC in the vehicle went out... the AC in the house in not working correctly... and the dog peed on the rug in the dining room... Other than that... things have been great! I'm back I knew that posting this would start another up-roar. It just shows how far apart publics and privates are. I do not know if there will ever be anything that the two group will *completely* agree on. If it is not suspicion that privates recruit, it is that the privates’ help with the tuition, or that privates have an unfair advantage for a multitude of reasons. Or publics do not allow private a say-so in TSSAA, or public say that they have to play smaller privates schools by 180%. If you really step away from this and just look at what all of this has become, it is just really sad.

You know, as a tax payer, I would vote to just do away with public school sports all together. Look at all of the ill feelings it is causing within our community. It is not worth it. I cannot say that Private schools should do away with sports, because as a private entity using private funds, they can do what ever they want. So instead of talking about D1's and D2's, 1.8 multipliers and lawsuits for recruiting, why not let public schools just teach the 3 R's and save all of the tax payers a huge amount of money and just get rid of public schools sports all together? What do you say?!?!

I am sure that the game being discussed in the 14U Team Pride vs the Knights. I think the final score was 122 to 29. I know for a fact that Tiffany took her starters out after the first five minutes. She needed to work on full court pressing by some of her kids that do not get as much floor time as others, but did not press in the second half at all. She also worked on some isolation plays that she needed to work on for the Adidas Tournament that ended up with some easy scores. Tiffany does not like to play games like this. Her motivation is to put her kids against the best in the country, older teams, and would play against guys, all to try and make each player on her team better. Making players better is her motivation, not recruiting the best for her own trophy case. When a girl leaves Tiffany's training, she is prepared for the next level. Every girl that finished on her 2004 16U Team Pride team got college scholarships if they wanted to play on the next level. I would expect that if each girl on this 14U finishes with Tiffany, they will find themselves playing in college if that is what they want.

You know... let's just say for grins.... that great athletes want to transfer to private school. Why is that? A question for those that say that private schools recruit. What is the motivation for a kid to go to a private school for athletics? You say that: Buildings are the same... Studies are the same... Coaches are the same.. Facilities are the same... Great athletes at both public and private schools... Tuition is NOT the same... What is it that motivates kids to go to a private instead of a public school?

Correct me if I am wrong, but does Sport Shop have a 14U team this year? As far as Tiffany's 14U Team Pride team, I agree that they should not be considered to be a threat. I would go with that if I was you.

Hmmm... I guess that it may be that they are playing up in some tourneys, and playing 14U in AAU. I know that the Sport Shop did not have a 14U because they were afraid to play against Tiffany's team. Typical! So is Archie coaching some St Cecelia girls? He sure gets the most out of his players, that's for sure!

Congratulations to the hardest working kid I have ever met. Your dedication to everything you do will carry you a long way at Martin Methodist, and in life. Way to go Kinsley. And I agree that Mr. Longhurst needs to take a chill pill!

I heard that Tiffany is going to going to registar her 14U Team Pride team in the 15U AAU. Has anyone else heard this?

I do not care much about state high school football, so please factor my comment in that. Why not have just two divisions. One is for all the marbles, and the other is recreational. A team has to proclaim which division they want to play in prior to the season beginning. No schedules are changed. When it comes to playoff time, teams that have proclaimed to be D1 go against everyone for a gold ball in a state wide playoff. For everyone else, it is just a round-robin group of games... no trophy. This way, the only teams that compete are the teams that think they can, and the team that think they cannot compete are not put into a position of humiliation. Sounds like a plan... what do you think Mr. TSSAA?!?!

Wait a minute Bill.... you have been saying that the private school gets the best kids to play for them by recruiting. That means that your kids are not as good as the kids at the privates. But then you say that the public and private kids are the same. So which way is it?!?!

I do not know why you would not agree with me on this point. After all, it seems that your complaint is that the private schools are taking away all of your talent... and I am agreeing with you!

It sounds to me like both proponents of public schools and propoents for public schools want the same thing, just for different reasons. The arguments are about the reasons. I know that there are a lot of issues to address, but it is not impossible to make the separation. It just requires that the people in authority discuss the goal and make the road map to get there addressing all the issues along the way. It seems that the TSSAA would have to be involved due to their authority provided by the National High School Association. But I would favor the first step of making all privates DII and let publics have D1. Although I do not like the indication the "2" has. I would just call it Privates and Publics. Again, there can be scheduling of regular season game between the division, but the State would be separated. I think this would be a good first step.

Well then... instead of everyone getting mad and calling people names, why cannot the discussion be about how we go about separating publics and privates all together? It would seem that this discussion would at least share the same goal. If privates are in a division by themselves, it would not keep the publics and privates from scheduling games if they wish to, but they would not compete for State Championships together. What is wrong with that? I like the idea because the most talented and most competitive teams would be in the private schools anyway.

I am a proponent of private schools and I understand all the rules, as well as how everyone says that privates break the rules and that we are all evil. Good.. fine... swell... If you are a coach, administrator, or someone with authority with your athletic program, can you not just refuse to play a private school? Or if you are in A or AA, can you move up to AAA so you do not have to play a private? This will never end until the entire thing is separated.
