Well the 3 years McMinn County made it, we drew the #1 team each time.

2003--Farragut

2004--Farragut. We were ranked #2. Lost 7-4. Only team to score on them in Memphis

2005--Hendersonville.

There has never been rhyme or reason to the brackets. I was always told that it was a blind draw and that it is just an honor to make it to the State Tournament.

Strange finish in Region 3, Cleveland beats McMinn County.... 2-0 with thirty-three minutes left in the game and game suspended for lightning only to be called about two hours later a 2-0 Cleveland win.

We were hoping to finish it. No one wants to end like that. but according to TSSAA format, once you have played a half, its official. Was hoping to finish it tonight or friday--but state said it was a done deal.

What a GREAT HS match!! It is a shame that someone had to lose. Both teams left it all on the field.

I think we have played 4 of the last 5 years in the Region tournament, if not 5 straight years. Two good teams/programs.

My heart goes out to the two brothers who missed their PK's.

Now for the tough one, Soddy vs McMinn Co.....My heart will pull for the Trojans (I'm sure you can understand where I'm coming from)and I do believe they have a chance against McMinn Co. Right now the Trojans are playing with a lot of heart and confidence. Their last two wins have been come from being behind in their matches. So they are not going to give up until the final whistle. On paper McMinn should have no problem with the Trojans, but playing with heart and believing you can win is something you can't measure on paper. With all that said.....

 

My heart wants Soddy to win, but my head says McMinn will win. Cree let me end with this. If McMinn lets Soddy hang around to the middle of the second half, you may NOT get the outcome your looking for. You let Soddy believe that they can win, they will be a very dangerous team. They play with a lot of emotion.

I truly understand your heart pulling for Soddy.

To be quite honest, it will depend on which McMinn Team shows up. We have given GREAT efforts against Farragut, Cleveland, etc. Then we have , as you have said, let teams hang around with us--example Walker Valley (no disrespect to the Mustangs. We should have scored 3 goals or more while their starting GK was at track meet).

Also, we havent always had the best luck at the Ancient Ruins.

As for the cards, we have gotten better as the year has gone along. The Cherokees will only get 1 yellow--and it wont be to coach--I have 0 for 2009.

I am sure it will be a great match.

Just based on Blackman's ranking, this appears to have been a huge upset. Was it??

Cleveland and McMinn Co. Move on to their district finals. Can someone please tell me if this game is at Clev. or McMinn Co.? This could/will be a great game to watch. Cleveland looking for revenge from an earlier tie with McMinn Co. and McMinn Co. "The Hunters"....

 

I have a feeling McMinn Co. will come out with 10 men behind the ball at all times to frustrate the Blue Raiders only to break out on counter attacks to catch Cleveland off guard or getting caught being lazy..... A) the match will be played at Cleveland. They are the #1 seed so they will host @ 7pm--Mousecreek.

2) We may bunker in, we may throw #'s at them like we did at Bearden two years ago. Depends on my mood for the day.

That being said. I just hope playing OT in the semi-finals tonight wont slow us down.

Cree your game with Baylor was back on 3/19, more than a month ago. But with the schedule that you have played and your good showing with Cleveland showed me that MC can now play with anybody.

MVM, i appreciate you putting the Cherokees @ #5. but the Baylor Red Raiders put a pretty good beating on us, so i dont think we should be above them.

i got a question guys...When a team forfeats how many goals does the other team win by?......cause its still a win right?

Our District (5AAA) states that it is a 3-0 win. due to the fact that we have a 3 goal max when it comes to goal differential.

Coach, Please forgive me , I didn't mean you were a weak team, I just meant not as good as the two teams mentioned so it was worded wrong. You have done a great job since you got there and have had some teams with great records. So, Please relax, we all know you will play anybody and since you get the big games that shows you are well respected as well as your trips to the state tournament. I do have one thought question for you, if you had played Bearden first and then Farragut a month later would you have seen different teams?

No problem onthepitch. I understand what your are saying, but we have played both for several years now--so i would like to think that neither team would take us lightly.

and yes, teams do peak and gel at different times. My team is better now than we were in early March.

First let me say several years ago I watched Bearden play Maryville and thought Farragut would stomp Bearden when they played, a different Bearden than what played Maryville came to play Farragut and so it goes both ways and always has. So McMinn playing both teams means nothing at game time. Second when did McMinn play each team, some teams take awhile to gel and both Turner and Culbreth work to get their teams to peak so early contest may be irrevalent.. Secondly, diffferent teams play weaker Teams different, some excel some play down. Who played McMinn which way? .

I certainly hope you arent calling McMinn a weak team. We will play anybody, as our schedule indicates. Sometimes we hold our own (Cleveland, Farragut, Bearden), sometimes we dont (Baylor, Hendersonville). But please dont insult us by calling us weak.

We played Farragut early and Bearden last week. I believe that these two teams will face each other in the District Final, and Region final. So thursdays match will only be round 1.

Thanks for recognizing our tough schedule. They say what doesnt kill you makes you stronger. We are hoping so. I believe that you only get better by playing good teams. Anyone can schedule "cupcakes". We are trying to climb back into that top tier of teams--the only way to do that is by playing them.

McMinn County has played both teams. I would totally disagree with Stud who predicts a 4-1 Farragut win.

I would say Farragut has better skill, Bearden is a better "team".

I'll predict the upset--Bearden 2, Farragut 1.

Small,wet field.

 

Two GOOD Cleveland goals disallowed by not so good ref.

A) i would call 115 by 65 a small field.

2) On one of the disallowed goals, the ref did say "wait till my whistle". And offsides is offsides.

C) you dont see any McMinn folks commenting on the lack of PK calls.

It was a typical McMinn/Cleveland match. Hard fought, physical, etc. Hats off to both teams.

Ravenwood and Cleveland have looked very good.

 

Tomorrow: Cookeville plays Cleveland at 1:00. Not sure about the other games.

Depending on field conditions, MCHS may host WV on Sunday.

The Alcoa and Cleveland game should be an interesting one.

The Blue Raiders had better not underestimate Alcoa. They are a good team.

Cookeville will play 1pm versus McMinn County on Saturday.

Walker Valley versus McMinn @ 3pm on Sunday.

I think that's the problem... it varies even from ref to ref, not region to region. I like a ref that is consistent. There are a few in Knoxville. Can't say about the other regions, though.

AMEN!!! Being in between Chatt and Knox--we see some from each region. There are some very good ones in both Knox and chatt. However, there are some very bad ones as well. I would love just to see some consistency.
