  1. District 12AA

    Teams are in alphabetical order.

    East Hickman

    Fairview

    Giles County

    Hickman County

    Lewis County

    Marshall County

    Page

    Spriing Hill

With the loss of Loretto to 1A and Fairview coming in, how will this district play out? Marshall County lost a lot to graduation but have a great coach and always have athletes. What do you guys think?

    1. Marshall County

    2. Hickman County

    3. Lewis County

    4. Fairview

    5. Spring Hill

    6. Page

    7. Giles County

    8. East Hickman

  2. District 11aa schools in alphabetical order:

    Camden Central

    Cheatham County

    Creek Wood

    Harpeth

    Montgomery Central

    Stewart County

    Waverly Central

    What do you guys think?

    1. Harpeth

    2. Cheatham County

    3. Waverly

    4. Creek Wood

    5. Camden Central

    6. Montgomery Central

    7. Stewart County

Any of these teams are capable of beating each other. The winner of this district could very well be 8-4 or 7-5 because of the parity in this district. Very good coaches with alot of great players.

  3. My thoughts:

    1. Clarkrange

    2. Bradford

    3. Jackson Co.

    4. Oliver Springs

    5. Madison Academic

Who knows just an opinion. JC may be better than Bradford, i know they beat them this summer. The others just a guess.

I think your list is very accurate. Here is my top 5 in the order I think.

    1. Clarkrange

    2. Bradford

    3. Jackson County

    4. Oliver Springs

    5. Forrest

  4. Who wins this district this season?

    Upperman

    Livingston

    Smith County

    York

    Cannon County

    Macon County

    Dekalb County

    1. Upperman

    2. Livingston

    3. Smith County

    4. Cannon County

    5. York

    6. Macon County

    7. Dekalb County

Upperman and Livingston will once again be the class of 7AA. Smith, York, and Cannon will battle for 3 thru 5. I suspect Dekalb will get their first district win in a long time this year.

  5. should be interesting this year

    1. Marshall County

    2. Hickman County

    3. Lewis County

    4. Loretto

    5. Giles County

    6. Page

    7. Spring Hill

    8. East Hickman

Marshall County is once again class of this league and should be ready to make another title run. Hickman, Lewis, and Loretto are all solid and could finish in any order. Giles should be a solid 5 with Page, Spring Hill, and East Hickman rounding out the rest of the league.

  6. This is the year. Coach Dean has our ladys primed and prepared. Practices have been going well with all of our experienced leadership the Lady Rines will be a shoe in for the region tournement. We have a tough non district schedule with a mix of traditional metro powerhouses and maybe even a Christmas tournement. But thats not the reason everyone is reading this thread, all of you are here for one reason ans thats for my pre-season predictions.

    1. LaVergne ( not even close )

    2. Wilson Central ( only because that coach still has his Daddy)

    3. Smyrna ( maybe last if they continue to get caught recruiting already been informed by the TSSAA )

    4. Beech ( still making everlasting gobstoppers)

    5. MJ ( who will that fool kick off this year )

    6. Gallatin ( only allowed to practice every other day Boys coach Bullying young coach )

    7. Hendersonville ( will be looking for a new coach just hope they dont try to take ours )

This district is once again loaded to the max.

    1. Smyrna--should have sour taste in their mouth and hungry to make return trip to the Murph

    2. Wilson Central--Jasmine Hassel.... Any questions?

    3. Mount Juliet--Always prepared and will play harder than anyone else in the district.

    4. Lavergne--Easily the most talented but the ones above them have been there!

    5. Beech--On paper always come up a little short but when the lights come on watch out!

    6. Gallatin--New coach and new ideas to this program with a lot of tradition but a couple of years away.

    7. Hendersonville--Will compete in several games but is just outmatched.

Any of the top 4 can win this district and ultimately challenge for the state championship. This district is just that good. Too bad reallignment will change that next year.

  7. This is always one of the toughest districts in the state but this is how I rank the order of finish on what the teams have comin back

    1.Gibson County

    2. Martin Westiview

    3.Obion Central

    4.Dyersburg

    5.Milan

    6.Dyer Co

    7.Crockett Co

    Looks pretty good!

    1. Gibson County

    2. Martin Westview

    3. Dyersburg

    4. Milan

    5. Obion Central

    6. Dyer Co.

    7. Crockett Co.

  8. 1. Friendship--this may be the year they get back on top. Veteran squad that will have chance to win with the 2 traditional powers in district a little down (Westmoreland, Gordonsville).

    2. Gordonsville--having said they are down.... I still think Coach Agee and company will be a tough out in this district.

    3. Westmoreland--After losing alot of production they will not be near as good as last 8 years or so but still know how to win.

T4. Trousdale--good incoming freshmen with several returning and will have a chance at region berth.

T4. Watertown--Guard play will be suspect for this young team but Thompson is force to be reckoned with.

    6. Merrol Hyde--Better but still fighting an uphill battle

    7. MJCA-- ready to make jump to DII so could surprise some people if they get off to a good start.

  9. 14, my thoughts were based on my comments and since I'm not the all knowiing and all seeing like the posters last year, the two facts that have been brought out to me as being in errior does change my thoughts and rearranges the order. I will wait until everyone gets thru dissecting and refuting my miistakes and will rearrange some more. Even with doing some rearranging with White, it looks to me that Riverdale and Cookeville will be difficult to beat and there will be a few slots there that might be splits based on who is playing at home. White county has a murderous last few games at the last of each year. They get worn down every year with that schedule. It has cost them, the last few years, Tournament slots and seedings. If its the same this year, it will do the same thing. By the way I haven't seen the schedule.

Since, in those 5-6 years, the situation at Warren has gotten a littke better, next year's team will be faced with a less schedule but still no help. Reading your post made me remember who they had to play. The coaching staff at Warren is the Coaching STaff. There have been numerous suggestions and i'm sure things have been changed some but 6 years is a long time but seeing is believing. Once a school gets on the spiral its hard to move back. This posters fondness of Warren County still makes winning possible. But it is going to take hard work for two or three years and I'm not sure of the dedication to the task. Go Pioneers.

    1. Riverdale

    2. Cookeville

    3. Lebanon

    4. Blackman

    5. Siegel

    6. White Co.

    7. Oakland

    8. Warren Co.

I think Riverdale and Cookeville are the class of the league and probably split during season. I see Riverdale probably getting the edge in the tournament.

  10. 1. SC

    2. CCS

    3. Grundy

    4. Hixson

    5. Howard

    6. Bledsoe

    7. Marion

    8. Notre Dame

    9. East Ridge

My picks from what I saw over the summer.

    1. SC

    2. Grundy

    3. CCS

    4. Hixson

    5. Howard

    6. Marion

    7. Bledsoe

    8. Notre Dame

    9. East Ridge

  11. DCA

    Goodpasture

    Greenbrier

    Portland

    Station Camp

    White House

    how will they finish?

    1. Station Camp---Team on verge of making a major splash in their last year of AA

    2. DCA- return a majority of their players and a transfer from Cheatham to an already competitive squad.

    3. Goodpasture- Coach Spann alone gets them in the top 3 in this district. New intensity, attitude and focus

    4. White House- A little more tradition than the bottom 2 and will be capable of knocking of the 2 and 3

    5. Portland--rebuilding and headed for AAA

    6. Greenbriar--make get an upset if overlooked

  12. records Overall (Regional)(Non-regional)

    1. Lewis Co.: 9-1 (6-0)(3-1) the Lewis co. panther might of lost a bunch of players last year but with coach bobby sharp they can turn a bunch of freshmen and sophmores into players like senior and juniors.

    2.Loretto: 9-1 (5-1)(4-0.) more info on bottom

    3. fairview: 7-3 (4-2)(3-1) fairview is just a good team that makes the playoff almost every year rather its a 4th seed or a 1st seed they are there. they graduated 17 seniors (I don't see how with 17 seniors a team can be a 2AA team but thats my opinion) with at most 47 players returning the fairview yellowjackets have a chance to take us out for 2nd place.

    4. Hickman co:5-5(3-3)(2-2) first of all i'm doubting the dawgs to finish 4th but i'm gonna give them the win vs. Harpeth to come in 4th. there not good enough to out run lewis co. there not gonna be smart enough to outbeat us (Loretto) and they don't have enough players to hang with Fairview. the reason they were so good is because they had a bunch of remaining players from that 4A squad of 06. Now that most of them have either graduated or went on to East Hickman they will be an average 2A school.

    5. Harpeth: 3-7(2-4)(1-3) with 29 returning SO, JR, and SR. the harpeth indians don't seem like they will have what u call a winnig year. it might help them next year but after starting 4-3 last year then losing 3 straight i don't think they have the talent to win 4 games again.

6.East Hickman: 1-9(1-5)(0-4) I don't have much on east hickman except if there quarterback next returns he will lead them to at least 2 wins next and especially a win over Richland.

    7. Richland:3-7(0-6)(3-1) Richland had a good year last year but they won't even be able to beat east hickman next year. they might get 3 non regional wins but they won't do so good in regional play. teams just get better than what they are.

Now Info on Loretto: the mustang probaly have the 2nd best coach in the region behind future hall of famer bobby sharp. he setting this team up better than i've ever seen a coach do ever. he's doing what eric mangini did with the 4-12 jets and made them into a 11-5 team. like my prediction says i only expect us to lose on game to lewis co. panther and i disagree with it being a blowout like the last couple have been.

here is our spring starting lineup:

QB:Colten Simbeck/Sophmore/ this QB will be regular season starter but right now during the spring rob doubter is the starter. because Simbeck is in Baseball. Simbeck is a very good QB he's got speed, size, and the arm for power and accuracy.

TB:Coty Cozart/senior/cozart tranferred from anderson california to Loretto before the start of the 07 season. Cozart is likely our best player on the team. He's got speed, size, agility, COD, and he's not afraid to hit somebody. He will lead the team in rushing Yards.

TB:Matt Weigert/Junior/weigert is a skilled back doesn't have much size but still a very good runner.

WR:Bryce Glass/Senior/Glass has size and is our 3rd string QB and has above average speed.

WR:Sean Long/Junior/Long is maybe the 3rd most athletic player in the entire school. he has height, he is very fast and probaly our best Wide Reciever.

H-Back:Jordan Lee/sophmore/ Good runner, he can block, and has leadership skils.

    SL: Alex Bates/Senior/ Fast

SL: Wayne William/senior/very overrated and cocky and probaly won't have the job by end of spring

    LT:Josh March/senior/ Best offensive lineman

LG:Brian (Tank) Tankersley/senior/good blocker never slows down

C: Dylan Gillespi/Junior/ he will be good by the start of the season

RG: Keith Daniels/Senior/2 year starter second best lineman

RT: Tyler Thigpen/Junior/a lot of playing in freshmen and sophmore season.

    DEFENSE:

    DE:Keith Daniels/Senior

NT:Channing Guiley/Junior/ probably the smallest non-freshmen on the team but the 5 strongest on the team. (350 lbs)

DE:Brian Tankersley/senior/ this is were he is very good at.

SOLB:Micheal Stagg/senior/very good outside linebacker might be Inside linebacker by start of the season. led team with tackles with about 90 tackles.

MLB:Micheal Allen/junior/ very overrated and very cocky

MLB:Justin Townsend/Sophmore/to small to play mike

    WOLB:Matt Weigert/Junior/have aready explained him

    CB:Coty Cozart/Senior/already explained hm

    FS:Sean Long/Junior/aready explained him

SS:Clint Wooten/Senior./small but he has a heart and he can hit

    CB:Bryce GLass/senior/already explained him

Mustangs r a good team and we will prove it come the Lawrence county in fall. go on ahead and put down your predictions and team info and have fun.

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha (deep breath)hahahahahahahhahahahahahhahhahhahahahahaha

  13. Its looks like all top 4 teams had a relatively easy time last night. Now on to the semi-finals.

#1 Lewis County vs. #4 Hickman County

#2 Marshall County vs. #3 Giles County

Who wins these games? Will the top 2 dominate or will there be an upset special?

  14. Does anyone have a complete list. That just dosn't add up to me.

I don't know how they voted. Could it be that the jc girls bc they are so good cancelled each other out with the voting. You have Leonard, Dyer, and Maxwell who on any given night could have hurt certain teams which in turn split the vote. Btw, Phillips is an outstanding player and well deserving.

  15. most of the time when an official calls a technical foul, he or his partners have warned the coach before. its not very many times that we call a technical on the first occassion something happens. during the pregame meeting with the GA, coaches, and security, everyone is told that sportsmanship is to be exhibited throughout the night by the GA and the officials; so, technically all coaches receive their warnings at that time. if a coach comes onto the floor to talk to an official, he puts himself in a no-win situation as far as getting excited about a call. everyone in the gym can see his actions which always speak louder than what he is saying. a good official will walk to his team's huddle area to try to avoid any scenes (and will take a little more than he normally would take from the coach, after getting him off the floor). don't know what the coach in this situation was saying or doing, but, when he went out on the floor where everyone could see them, he again was in a no-win situation; he's going to get a stern warning or technical almost everytime. even if his complaint is legitimate, the coaching box area or timeout huddle area is the place to express it.

What if the official(s) refuse to come to you during timeout so you can intelligently discuss a situation with them?

  16. I have been gone all day and Look what i missed.. Good post and good replies.

There Have been good points brought up.. Gator, Has good points. Devilish also..

I would like to say this, My hubby and I used to years ago keep up with the ballgames around, well he works all the time... My kid is grown and I Still love the game. I get hubby to go to see the games with me three times this year and he is a quite easy going fellow and doesn't get upset much. I am going to have to attend by myself i think cause the three times he has gone he has been livid at the calls that are being made. We grew up with Moe as one of our favorite ref's. They don't make them like him anymore.

As a parent I would like to give you this to think about, If you have two kid's on the play ground and one of them is yours. Let's say the other kid knocks your kid down or upside the head, I am sure you just sit there waiting for the other kid to quit {yea! right} Well, the other kid's parent doesn't take action to fix the problem.

What is happening now? Yea, you guess it, tempers are starting to boil, maybe not exploding, but gettin ansy,

Well, you separate them, then here we go again the same continues. Are you getting the picture now. This is what's happening at the ballgames..

When you have someone's kid on that ball court and your the adult in control of this group of kid's and you are not making the proper correction to control the group. Parents,Fans, or whom ever are not going to sit by and let this kind of action take place. It is Human nature to protect, ok, we allow certain things because it is a physical game but if you wanted your kid to be in a wrestling match or boxing match I assume you sign them up for it. When you play basketball the object of the game is...We all know the answer to that.

I myself as a parent know what the people are asking for, it is not the tight calling of a touch foul, but jesus if you going to ride sombody to the ground let's break the saddle's out and call it a Rodeo.

The ball game at the first of the year at RBS and JC, they had been a lot of hype and attention coming in to the game. The refs talk to the girls and the game began. Fouls was called when needed and there was control of the game from beginning to end. The fan's despise each other but because it was controlled on the floor everything went very well. Both teams and coaches had respect for each other..No incident occurred. I respect the officials, but i demand there respect as well as i give it. Thanks to the officials that take thier job serious and do it to the best of thier ability.. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

It sounds like to me the officials were well prepared for this game.

In my opinion, this should be the approach every night for officials. I think too many times officials come into a game and predetermine that this game will be a blowout or one team is far superior to the other. Although this maybe true , there are upsets and there are battles between less talented teams and I think the superior teams sometimes get the benefit of the doubt. I am speaking on this bc I have been on both sides of the fence as I have coached superior and inferior teams as well as officiate.

  17. You're right, a "foul" is a "foul". However, a "reach" without contact is not a "foul" and "over the back" without contact is not a "foul". It is not a foul to swipe at the ball and it is not a foul to outjump someone...even if you're behind them. There is no foul until there's contact. If more people would know the "rules", as you claim to from your post, they would realize that officials are not always as you say, "letting them play", rather making a good no-call by not penalizing someone for playing swarming, aggressive defense or being more athletic than their opponent. JMHO. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

I agree. There is no such foul as a "reach" foul or "over the back" foul.

Here is something you might want to think about. I would venture to say that officials make more than some coaches. Many coaching supplements range anywhere from 1500 to approximately 8 to 10000. So the average coach by number makes around 4 to 5000. If an official works junior high freshman and varsity then they could work 3 to 5 times per week for 5 months.

An official could easily make 4 to 5000 dollars which is equivalent to the supplement of many coaches. Therefore, I do see the point where officials could be fined in some cases. Having said that, the majority of officials do the best they can and coaches do as well. Please understand, I am not saying officials should be repromanded for missing calls bc we all know that coaches make many mistakes as well. I do feel if coaches or officials get out of line then there should be consequences for both. I still feel that human to human meetings outside of the gym during games would be beneficial to all involved.

  18. assistant coaches shouldn't say anything. they should just keep up with time outs and wipe water off the floor.

Just to clarify something.... The title of these people are ASSISTANT COACHES'. They are not called assistant practice coaches but people that should be able to coach (NOT QUESTION OR YELL AT OFFICIALS) but coach. People like this are what coaches get upset about. Assistants referred by dragonmaster what officials get upset about. On behalf of all current and former assistant coaches, I take great offense to this post.

  19. Thanks for comments and opinions on this thread, and no, bench decorum is not consistently addressed, even though it is a point of emphasis....Let me ask all readers, especially the coaches, this one situation and get your opinioed response....True story- High School Game - Head coach has been warned and has seen the hand from me after vehemently arguing a call. After a few more trips up and down the floor, as I pass directly in front of him and he screams while standing, " God ref, you just blew another one!" I stop and immediatly assess a technical foul. Right on cue, one of the asst. coaches pipes in in a normal tone, "That's the first call you have gotten right all night."

Question: Would you, if you were in my shoes, call another technical (on the bench)? I'm not going to tell you what I did...I want to know what you would do....If I get enough responses, I may tell you what I did....Everyone I've related this situation to, including fellow officials, have given me various opinions...This thread seems to have some intelligent posters - I would really like your feedback....Thanks

Ernie, you sound like you have a good handle on things during your games. While you may not worry as much about bench decorum but there are many that do. I know they are many different personalities with all officials as well as coaches so meetings and attitudes will vary. My whole point to this topic to me is to find a way to create actual human relationships between coaches and players and I feel this could be done. I believe more positive would come out of it than negative. If negative did occur, then you as coaches, officials, and supervisors could find a way to keep the ones that have had altercations apart from each other until things could possibly be resolved. I am not talking about an occasional technical foul. This is real life and in some cases there would be no reconcilliation. (sp)

As for your question about the technical situation, I have been faced with very similar situations as an official and I did not give the assistant a technical bc I did not lose my composure. I assessed the original technical to head coach, reported it, and rotatated away from their bench.

  20. The suggestion of one meeting a year sounds plausible, but I don't think it work.....Officials vary in ability and experience just like other professions......It is the supervisor and ######./officer that have to decide who to place where and whether a particular referee can handle a particular contest. Most, I said most, officials I know do not hold a grudge when it comes to officiating a certain coach or team...that doesn't mean they appreciate or like that coach, but that they will officiate the game in a professional manner, enforcing the rules and managing each contest. Officials should always take the high road when dealing with a belligerent coach or any situation involving disagreements with players or coaches- even after they have had to penalize......PROFESSIONALISM is the key word....Coaches and players aren't always held to that standard when they are upset, antagonistic, or angry during the heat of the game....Fans and parents expect that...Fans, parents, coaches, and players always expect the officials to be calm, professional, rules knowledgable (a must, and some coaches don't know all the rules, either), and consistent.....tough to do and please all tastes.....

Finally, if coaches would just concentrate on coaching and thier assistants the same, referees would be able to do a much better job, game in and game out....The best games are the ones when the referees are never noticed....much of the attention drawn to officials by everyone is, not what they call, but how the coach reacts to thier call...Some may think that the coach "working the official" is a positive thing, but usually just makes the ref's job more difficult.

Just a few toughts from an official

    ErnieG,

I do agree with many things that you have stated. It is the job of the assigning officer/supervisor to assign all officials to sites and the crew that they will be with (which is extremely difficult). I have seen coaches go crazy after what they thought were missed calls and get T. I have seen officials bait coaches. I have seen coaches go crazy and nothing is ever done to them for whatever reason. I have also seen coaches not say anything and get a T for the first words that come out of their mouth. I understand that convenience of same crew and travel is necessary sometimes(especially with gas prices). However I think if coaches and officials worked together.....then many instances could be avoided. They would become better acquainted with each others point of view. At the risk of sounding like a know it all because I am not. I have many years experience officiating and coaching and no it is not jr. pro but at a much higher level.

Here are a few more suggestions for game management.

    1. In the pregame meeting.

Always be cordial with each other and do not issue warnings there.

I agree 100% assistants should not ever be critical of an official, but allow them to do some coaching. I think too much emphasis is put on the small stuff. If they jump up in excitement for there team, you do not have to give them a warning or T or tell them to sit down and that has happened on many occasions.

    2. During the game, as an official you should concentrate more on what is inside the lines than if an assistant stood up or if a coach has stepped a foot outside of the box. As a coach, control what you can control and that is your players attitude and effort. Demeanor by both parties can affect these type of things in a major way.

    3. I feel that crews should not work back to back nights or even in the same week at the same school. Alot of emotion is poured into these games by all parties.....players, coaches, and officials.... and I think some things could be avoided if that didn't happen.

    4. I also think that if there is an altercation, then remove that official(s) from those teams for a little while. Adjust the schedule which I know can be a pain.

    Bottom Line:

If everyone wants to make basketball better then there definitely needs to be some modifications and it can be done.

Select a committee of coaches and officials that can discuss situations with each other to find resolution or at least remedy a situation from happening again. I bet schools would be willing to give officials copies of the games they worked. Coaches and players watch alot of film so they can improve. I think officials could do the same.

    Best wishes to all.
