  1. See my post on Cookeville's other Juniors and you will know that they have got a lot of talent and will most likely win their region behind a very young team. With a couple of key seniors....none more important than our very own freight train named Stevie Buckner #41. Morgan's brother you are thinking of is Robert and he graduated in '01 I believe.
  2. Anybody who thinks that John Ledford won't be able to handle the QB job has got to be from somewhere besides Cookeville. If you know him or have seen him play you know that he has one heck of an arm and makes great decisions. Passing will not be a problem if anybody decides they want to catch it and if Coach J decides to go to a more balanced offense which I think is a great idea and could work. The only way that would happen unfortunately is if Buckner got hurt. They will be mostly, I said mostly, a running team. They have the power and speed backs to do it with and a great scrambling QB. But if a go to receiver like Lesko breaks through in the offseason expect to see a jugernot on offense. They also return 5 starters on defense all of which will be juniors and 3 more that saw a great deal of back-up time last year. So even though Lincoln County with that star QB and Franklin County with that good running back, they all better pray that they can score enough on our speedy D to keep up with our offense. Which I don't believe will happen. GO CAVS
  3. Oh yeah pilot....Mario also had the last 7 points of the game including the game winning shot that gave Cookeville its first and only lead of the game. I think he had 7 3ptrs also.
  4. Fastereddie, Well ok maybe that was more directed at the fact that he is the best in his class and has been for as long as I can remember. As for the district being down...hardly. Ever herd of Oakland. I think they are ranked 7th in the state and it's when anybody in the district can beat anybody else in the district that makes it good. Warren County is doing surprisingly well and so are my boys from Cookeville as they are exceding everyone's expectations. I know personally the majority of our team and at the beginning of the season not one of them thought that they would even win ten games and let me tell you if it wasn't for Mario they sure wouldn't have. Blackman and Lebanon are also very tough. I think Riverdale will bounce back from their woes and compete for the district crown. But don't be surprised if the district tournament runs through the Cookeville Cavaliers this year. To pilot- Mario had 34pts not sure on the rebounds and assists but I know that both were above 5.
  5. No, actually they have 5 seniors. It is just that Mario is the only one..... well, on the team that has had previous years' experience. The other 4 are post players but they all contribute to the cause with rebounding and what not. They also bring to the table the intangible role of senior leadership. That always helps teams to go far. Probably the other players that you are thinking of have either quit or found another sport. Truth be told, there are several seniors in our school that could probably be on the team and have a profound impact. Wish they would play but there are just somethings that hold people back.
  6. As I said earlier in this thread CCHS just had to pick their poison. But let's give credit where credit is due. Great game Cumberland County. You certainly desrve Koodos for that one even thogh you didn't get the win. Taking the lead into the half. Shhhhheewwww....that had me worried. As Taylor struggled the other half of Cookeville's star duo stepped up in the spotlight. Cara had a whale of a game with 25pts. And what about my girl Meredith Redus with a huge performance for her dropping 15 in a winning cause. You girls really should start believing that you ARE good enough to make it to the state!!! After a double-digit win against Riverdale and a come from behind win in a hostile environment against Cumberland County I think that you should set the bar no lower than the state tournament. Just like in every team sport...there comes a time in the season when everything seems to just "CLICK". As a bistandard I see what looks to me like a team that is now determined and ready for this season to turn into an unforgetable one. You girls now look like a team that wants to be challenged and in this district a challenge seems to be every game. But I have faith in all of you that you will prevail. Keep working hard to achieve your goals and come the end of the season I think you will be satisfied. GO CAVS
  7. Are you kidding? Mario has been the best player in the Upper Cumberland since he stepped on the high school scene 4 years ago. It's just he has never been the go to guy and the offense until this year. If Cobb and Burks and not been at Cookeville before him we're talking one of the Upper Cumberland's all-time top scorers. And I just don't know how you can put his performance against Cumberland County into words. It was truly remarkable to see a player take his team on the verge of a humiliating loss to an amazing come from behind victory. You can't sing enough praises for that one. If you have seen the thread with the top scorers then you notice that he is not on there. Before this incredible game he put up he was averaging 22pts/3.5 asts. and 5 boards a game. Oviously they WILL go up! As the season progreses he continues to build his self confidence and the confidence of his teammates. If you have the oppurtunity to see Mario play then I strongly recommend that you do so. Hopefully Mario can stay healthy and confident and lead his team to a season that we won't soon forget. Hope to see him playing at the next level because he certainly has the talent all he must do is maintain a strong-willed desire and he can get there and maybe farther. He has a great family that will help him push his asspirations if he so chooses to proceed and I wish him and the Cavaliers the best of luck this year and in the future.
  8. 99% sure the game has been rescheduled for February 1st
  9. I hate to diss other teams but I agree with keg this will be a 20pt win for the Lady Cavs at least. The only way I think that it could be any closer is if CCHS shuts down Taylor and Reed and I haven't seen anybody who has shut both of them down on the same night. CCHS pick your poison! Double Taylor and get burned by Reed or visa versa. I personally think that the factor in this game will be Erica McDonald. She has had back-to-back 10+ pt and 5+ board games and really starting to turn into just another threat for CHS. I go CHS in a major blowout by 28(70-42)
  10. I agree that Meredith is one heck of a ballplayer. Right now she is averaging around 8-9 points and 3.5 boards a game. This year she is really playing out of place since Cara Reed came into town. She is usually a 4 but this year she is playing a 3. And it is tough for her to get alot of points since almost every time down the court the ball goes through Taylor or Reed. Next year count on her to be averaging somewhere between 15-20 points and 5-8 boards a game. She has incredible ball handling skills and a great shot no matter where she is at. I don't think it would be fair to leave out Cookeville's other sophs. Leslie Talent is going to be a good point guard in the future as she is backing up Nipper this year but catching on very quickly. Those are the only two sophomores who are getting a decent amount of playing time this year, but there are 3 others who will be talked about alot I think next year and in the future. Kellye Jolley and Lidia Jones will be the twin towers of Cookeville as both stand above 6' and are developing into good shooters. Lacie Bell who if not for an injury last year might be playing this year will take over Taylor's role and should do a great job next year. I have watched her play since 5th grade and let me tell you now she can score like nobody's buisness. The freshman team here is doing great and have a few that will contribute next year and the upcomming freshman are just as good. Watch out for the Lady Cavs in the next couple of years because the future is looking bright.
  11. It all depends on Burnette!! If Mario has 20+ then Cookeville will win. If he doesn't then someone will have to step up and not be afraid to shoot(Rader,Smith, and Stearman). Remember last time Mario went out with half of the 4th left to play. But on the other hand we don't have Moore or "Big O" this time. Still we have improved on the offensive glass so you won't get as many easy second chance points that you had last time. It will be a close game none the less and we just had a big confidence win over Riverdale so that will help. I don't think the homecourt advantage will have the effect that everyone thinks because we will also be traveling a pretty big bunch up there like ya'll brought down here. I think it will be less than 5 either way it goes, so I am going to take my hometown boys by 3(73-70) GO CAVS
  12. Let it be known now that the Cookeville football program is comming into their own. They are on the brink so to speak. Last year they went further than any other Cookeville team has ever been by winning region 3-5A and a first round playoff game and were a couple of plays away from a win over Blackman and a birth in the "Elite 8" of 5A. Next year they will be a predominately junior team returning 5 that started as sophomores on a senior dominated team this year. John Ledford will take over the healm as quarterback and will also play cornerback where he started this year and let me tell you don't be fooled by his size. At 5'11" 165-170 he has a cannon for an arm beeing a former pitcher and also runs a 4.6. Expect to see a more balanced attack next year. 3 junior running backs, Tyler Turner(a smaller, faster Buckner) who will also be starting at linebacker,Sean Jackson(4.5-4.6 extremely quick)returns from skipping his sophomore season, and Gus Paxton go along with the aforementioned senior Stevie Buckner who will be the horse like he was this year. Harris Hayworth is a very tall pass catching tight end and Derek Bush and Alen Namboothiree are two wide receivers that are not tall but very fast, athletic, and have great hands. They loose 4 of 5 starters on the offensive line but will plug in two big strong guys in Brandon Lack(6'3" 280) who probably won't get as much time as Tim Jones(6'2" 220) who will also start on the defensive line. Shane Langford will be at defensive end and is extremely agile for his 6'2" 200 size frame. Russell Tribble will join Turner at the Linebacker position who is a bigger and faster Brian Jernigan of this year. Probably the most complete junior is Morgan Toline(6'1" 175-180). He started free safety last year and is very fast. Led the team in interceptions and returned kickoffs last year. Will probably do that and return some punts next year. To utilize his full skill coach Joslin should move him to wide receiver where he could be a real threat. Add all of them to a balanced senior class led by Buckner and Brady Adams who will be a defensive back/return man and a very promising sophomore class and probably an even better upcomming freshman class along with the brains of it all and one of the best coaches in Tennessee Jerry Joslin and you have got yourself one heck of a football team in the years to come.

disgustedfan, I am close friends with Tyler and am curious to know where you heard this from?? There is absolutely no reason why he would move there. His dad is the pastor at one of the biggest churches in Tennessee and his mom is one of the main people in the babe ruth league in Cookeville. Tyler will also be a two way starter on the football team next year and while he may not get a whole lot of playing time this year on the baseball team because of Adam Militana he will most certainly be the starting catcher his junior and senior years. Why would he leave?? Please reply.
  14. Letsplay2,I'm not sure I know what you mean by scary. I have played against both Clouse and Rogowsky and sure they are good pitchers but as a team I'm not sure I follow. If you have only 2 good pitchers for back to back games and both of them tend to throw it right down the gut when they start to get hit then who are you going to go to when they face some of the big time hitting teams in the district. You want them to throw 7 innings twice a week. I don't think so. So the pitching staff is not as scary as you might have thought. And as for offense I have seen Rogowsky hit and he is decent, haven't seen as much of Clouse but I only know of one other good hitter on that team. So as a team, like as in wins and loses, and being "scary" do you still think that?
